I ordered a oolong rose tea. Cashier and Barista could not tell me how many calories the drinks had when asked. I asked if the tea was caffeinated she said "No, tea does not have caffeine in it." Depending on the tea, it does have caffeine in it... The cashier seemed rushed to take our order. And people that ordered after us got their order first. I ordered pickup through their online ordering system Here are the highlights: - Out of everything, my favorites were the flan (on the cupcake and the Halo Halo) and ube ice cream (on the Halo Halo and bread pudding). - They started making the Halo Halo only after I checked in, which makes sense considering it's such a time-sensitive food. - They forgot the Ube Crinkles cookie for my order, so I had to let them know to receive it. If you're ordering a lot of things like me, make sure to check that you got everything. - The ube cupcake was very moist and dense. The truffles were made from the same cake and covered with Oreo crumbs. I don't think they were dipped in white chocolate, as it says on the menu. The truffles were a hefty size, and they were very tasty. - I stored the bread pudding in the fridge for a few days before eating it, and it was cool to see how the ube in the dessert oxidized and turned blue. I have tried the calamansi teas, milk tea, shakes, churrochi, and many of the baked goods here over the years. I've enjoyed them all and everything is overall good quality. Their sandwiches are also delicious. This location has plenty indoor seating and is a nice, chill study spot. Workers are usually very welcoming and polite. Customer service stinks. For one, they completely forgot my order and didn't realize it until they saw that I was the last person in the store and people after me received their order. Then they gave me the incorrect order. I asked to fix the order, I was getting ready to take my order and leave when the manager stopped me and told me I need to pay for the difference...$0.81. That's pretty pathetic, I'm all about paying the correct price for stuff I have no issue with that. Stopped here during mid day to try out their ube treats since we are in love with the flavor. I would have to agree with other fellow yelpers that everything is on the sweeter side. We ordered their ube cupcake with flan on top and an ube latte. My little one thought the cupcake was too sweet and that's coming from someone who loves sweets. The latte was so sweet I couldn't drink it, took it home and had to put 2 shots of espresso to balance it out. The one thing I did enjoy is the decor, very nice and relaxing. read more

Yes, it is a bit more hipster and deviates a bit from the authentic Filipino cuisine, but it doesn't mean that they compromise the flavor and quality. I've been here on various occasions and have ordered their taro drinks. My most favorite drink of all that they carry is their upside down halo halo- a twist on a famous Filipino drink. I haven't ran into a Filipino bakery like Cafe 86. Although I'm used to the traditional bibingka or pan de ube, the twists that the desserts here deepened my love for the Filipino ingredients I know. I had the ube cup cake with the leche flan on top and it was pretty sweet, but the tart from the calamansi-hibiscus tea cut that sweetness pretty well. The safety changes due to covid are good. I like that the breads and other goodies are individually packaged. The only problem I had with my experience was that there is a sign to keep customers out until a worker welcomes them into the store but someone full on pushed past me while I was leaving. I know the entitled Karen isn't their fault but it was awkward that I was pushed past when we're all supposed to be socially distancing. If they can spare someone to keep the entitled people at bay I think they can control the flow of people better. I also hope that the online ordering can be made a little more user friendly and you don't have to go to a secondary website to order. read more

Stopped by this Mira Mesa location on the way back to LA to get the Ube Latte (yum!), an Ube Butterbar and an Ube Truffle. The 2 pastries were pretty decent, but I have to say I've had better Ube pastries in the San Fernando Valley. They have always accommodate his needs so we come all the time. Today was different. The guy gave me a hard time. He made me feel like an idiot. "Sir probably you went to the other store." Haven't tried that much of their menu yet, but I tried their mermaid milk tea and it was one of the best milk teas I've had. Their sea salt cream is amazing and if they sell it by itself, I would certainly buy it and take it home with me. It just levels up any drink you add it to. I am BLOWN away how rude the employees were tonight. My family and I came in 15 minutes before closing and as soon as we walked in she says, "We are closing in 15 minutes." No welcome greetings and seems extremely bugged we came in to order. We ordered 2 Halo Halos and The girl employee threw us off from the start, as she seemed bugged we came in 15 minutes before closing. She began reminding us multiple times how many minutes until they close, practically counting down the minutes. We had 10 minutes before closing after ordering and both the girl and boy working were on there phones (not even hiding it) while making our food. Then we sat down to eat and behind the counter, she stars at us as we eat with the rudest look, waiting for us to be done. After we received our order, We were rushing with still 5 minutes left to eat, as we felt so rushed by the girl. The girl employee had whispered to the boy employee, to him then coming to our table saying "we close soon so can you guys leave?" We were in absolute SHOCK. Never has ANYONE in our (small) group experienced service as poor as Cafe 86. My family and I came often and support the small business. To be told "can you leave?" Felt unreal. We all then left and will NEVER be returning to cafe 86. Disappointed to have such poor service at a cafe we really did enjoy supporting. read more
