Brunch review - the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon is really good and the portion is generous. The coffee comes in a little pot for refills, which is great so we don't have to keep bothering the server. The server at the bar is very attentive and fast. Finally, New York City made it back into indoor dining! But we thought it would be a sin to sit inside when it was such a beautiful evening. We were seated right away even as the place was starting to get busy with eager diners trying to get back inside. We ordered a few appetizers and some entrees to share. The fried calamari was pretty good, a little on the salty side but still enjoyable. The short rib meatballs were decent too but nothing to rave about. The star of the appetizer show was the pizza! It had the thinnest crust I've ever eaten on a pizza and it was extremely tasty. I would definitely come back for another round. We also ordered some garlic bread by the waiter's recommendation and it was fantastic. It was super hearty and soaked up a lot of the leftover sauce. For the entrees, we ordered the chicken parmigiana and the spaghetti carbonara. The carbonara came in an extremely underwhelming portion and it was just okay in my opinion. It tasted mostly like onions. The chicken parm was great though. It came in a round shape, just like a pizza, and we were able to cut it into little triangular slices and eat it by hand. It was delectable and savory. We had a couple of cocktails: the first one was a Moscow Mule. It came elegantly presented with a pretty pink hue and a mint garnish. It was kind of weak though; I think they diluted it a lot with lemonade. I also got to try the Harvest Punch which was delicious. I'm not into whiskey/bourbon cocktails but this was smooth and blended well. The two-star deduction was for the service. It took forever and a half for our waiter to come take our food order. We had to flag him down each time. At the end of our meal, we wanted to order another round of drinks and dessert and we were told that the manager needed the table back. I understand trying to accommodate everyone waiting but we had ran up a huge tab and I don't think it would have been bad for the restaurant if we got to stay just a little bit longer. read more

Fantastic. Delicious. Very busy. Made Reservation on Open Table last night. With over 6 thousand reviews and close to 5 star rating this was a must try. The staff was very friendly, professional, and accommodating (we asked for a booth instead of a table- no problem). The servers were attentive and quick, as was the waiter. I ordered the Spicy margarita and it was amazing. The served focaccia bread and provide olive oil on table. Salty but very good. We started with the caprese salad which was delicious! Perfectly ripened tomatoes and creamy fresh Mozzarella cheese! The veal Milanese....(drum roll) ... the best I've ever had! Thin, crisp, large portion of veal topped with fresh greens that were lightly dressed with a lemony taste. I cannot wait to go back for it. The optional additional spaghetti pomadoro was the perfect accompaniment for veal. Note: one review said that the portions were large and that splitting is a good option. We intended to split and the waiter talked us out of it. There are 2 prices on the menu; one is the portion I described and photographed, and the higher priced option is a "bone-in version" which the waiter said was slightly larger. We code the smaller portion which was HUGE. We each only ate half of our meals and were staying at hotel, so as much as we would have enjoyed the leftovers, we couldn't take them. We were completely full after bread, appetizer, and eating only half. We WILL share next time. I am excited to return Prices are high - $31 for veal Milanese plus $7 for pasta and $17 for a glass of wine. It's New York! We sat indoors, but there is a outdoor seating available (weather permitting) and a lively area surrounding the bar. It's a little noisy and the salt pepper and oil were a little grimy to touch. On July 6 at 4PM my wife called Cafe Fiorello Restaurant to ask "if we could be there in, roughly, fifteen minutes would a reservation be necessary?" The young women who answered the phone, Melissa, as I recall, said that a reservation would not be necessary: "you should have no problem being seated". At approximately 4:20 PM we arrived and related that conversation to the host, he consulted his table/reservations chart and summoned over a waiter (we have no recollection of having seen before, in our decades of dining at the restaurant) who he directed, off to one side of his podium, and out of our ear shot, lengthy instructions to lead us specifically to a table, in an area he designated. At this point it should be significantly noted that there were only five (5) booths, and not one table, occupied in the entire restaurant. FIVE. We were lead behind the podium to the right to the farthest wall of the restaurant, to a darkly lit area that we'd never even seen before, out of sight of the rest of the dining areas and void of any attempt to remotely resemble any thing akin to the decor or ambiance of the establishment we'd patronized countless times over the four decades we've lived in Manhattan. We were taken to the farthest end of this dimly lit narrow area where there were approximately 3 tables, singles on the left and two or three booths on the right. We were shown to the table at the very back of this dimly lit "room" with a table top space equivalent to a serving tray. When we asked if we could be seated at one of the, booths across from our mini-accommodation we were given an unequivocal "no"; again this dark portion of Fiorello's was totally empty and it was four in the afternoon, on a thursday, in a relatively empty establishment. This insult to my wife and I, and for that matter to the professional, accommodating and faultless employees who, up until this incident, had made a visit to this establishment a pleasure, was not something we could, or should, accept. I was wearing my "Vietnam Veteran" cap, which of course I remove when dining. Perhaps he has a problem with those who served or currently serve. Hard to find the rationale of irrational behavior. We left, unable to find the host of this indefensible monument to crass behavior. Cowardice was another "quality" he apparently added to his resume on this day. You're welcome to dine at this normally fine restaurant, but be aware that you may be subjected to this host's need to bully and mercilessly muscle flex, at your expense, to satisfy his own flawed ego. read more

Met friends for brunch and we were sorely disappointed. Guess we should've expected that, given that they've been in business in this touristy neighborhood for decades. Brunch/lunch menu has omelets, pancakes, French toast, salads, and dinner entrees also. We sat outside, and any stars are for the gracious host who seated us. Hubby and I decided to share a cheese omelet and a pancake order. I don't know or even car why, but on a Sunday early afternoon, they had no pancakes! Okay, pecans aren't my favorite nut but we ordered the French toast. On the menu, the omelet is described as "gooey cheese omelet" with cheddar, Parmesan, mozzarella. Not at all gooey, not at all what sounds from the menu like a lot of cheese! Served with a small pile of decent fries and a few greens. One of our friends ordered it also - and he had to ask for a side order of toast! Never went to a restaurant that offers omelets where a slice or 2 of toast wasn't included (for ($17.95!). Our order of "Tony Bennett's French Toast - strawberries, pecans & all-natural maple syrup" was 3 small slices, each with half a strawberry on it. Pecans were in the batter. Sweet enough to not use any syrup, but such a small portion for $18.95. The only order among the 4 of us that looked really good ($19.) was our friend's avocado toast. She was pleased that they agreed to sub scrambled eggs for poached. We'd eaten here several years ago and tried their thin crust pizza, one of the items they're known for, and also thought not so good and way overpriced. In future, if someone suggests Fiorello's, we'll suggest choosing somewhere else. No lack of good restaurants on the UWS! read more

I made a reservation and stated it was an anniversary and birthday. They attempted to place us at a crappy travel next to a large party. I requested a booth and was promptly told no, then we were told to "look around the restaurant for a booth" which there was an open booth and again we were told we couldn't sit there They put us at the crapppiest table next to the POS terminal where my seat was knocked every time a waiter or runner walked by. We ordered the lasagna for 2 and it was just thrown on the table. We asked if they would serve it to us. They've done this for us before. the runner copped an attitude and then the waiter came over and told us the restaurant or servers don't split food. Once we explained this was the first time we were told this and that we have been served the food before he quickly rolled his eyes and changed his attitude. For the price we should be treated the same as all the others that come in there. We were told if we were not happy that we should talk to the GM of the restaurant. My boyfriend called and the GM also seemed to not care, and did nothing for us. He just said to come back are he would make sure we had good service. Whether anniversary. Birthday. Or just a Sunday. Nobody would be treated less than the table next to us where the server or busboy did serve the food table side. Also. Don't talk to the host and look over at us talking shit where we can visibly see you doing it. It's a trashy look for your staff. You clearly did it and chuckled as you were doing it. We had a great dining experience at CF. The prices here are a ittle steep but makes sense considering the location of this restaurant. The beautiful preparation at the bar of antipasti made you want to sample them all. The assorted vegetable dishes were offered in three and five samplings for $19.00 and $25.00 respectively and were all delicious, but the star of our dining experience was the Italian wedding soup $13.00. This exquisite soup loaded with vegetables and the most delicious little meatballs was the best that I have ever eaten! Margherita pizza and a side appetizer of short rib meatballs were also good. The pizza crust was thin, almost waferlike, and the meatballs although tasty I found them to be slightly lacking in flavor compared to the ones in the wedding soup. We were happily surprised with Cafe Fiorello after going to another originally planned venue which would have had us waiting for at least an hour. A lot of times the best laid plans because of time constraints have you make a detour, having a four year old in tow was one of these situations. Th only thing that prevented the additional star was that since the place was so crowded we had to sit at the bar close to the entrance where it was a litle cool from the door openings, and being jostled by other patrons passing between the entrance, the cashier and the main dining area. read more

Why isn't this brunch more hyped up? We were so impressed with our brunch here this past weekend. We came in at 10:15. We made reservations, but we probably didn't need them that early on a Sunday. But never hurts! We sat inside in a cute window booth. We ordered coffee which they brought in a cute little pot so that you can refill when you want. We got the hazelnut pancakes and the scrambled eggs to split between the two of us. Highly suggest this order! The pancakes are huge and so thick and fluffy - just the way I like it! They are topped with the most decadent hazelnut syrup and mascarpone. The edges and just slightly crispy and the center is super fluffy. I would say these pancakes fall in the top 5 of all time for me! But I would suggest splitting them no doubt. We could barely finish half each. The scrambled eggs were a great balance to the sweet. I sent back their dish 3 times because they were not cooked right (to my liking) or tasteless. Seriously bland. We sat at the bar and were able to order the full menu (what place isnt like this anymore)? Anyway, this place has what you need and then some. The brunch portions were huge. The bloody marys were amazing. The service was so good. This place was empty for Sunday Brunch and it makes zero sense to this Yelper. So so good. I've been going here for years, and I've seen both the ups and the downs of this Upper West Side staple, which I know can happen with a place that's been around for so many years now. After a rough patch a couple of years back, the food and service has been getting increasingly better, although they still have some room to grow. This review is based on my last meal there. I started off with the fried artichokes and grilled asparagus, which were both delicious. The antipasto has always been relatively consistent no matter what so you can't go wrong with that. I normally get the chicken or veal parm, but this time I got the chicken milanese. It was alright, but the beurre blanc sauce was breaking and lacked the tanginess and deep flavor I'm usually looking for. A member of my party got the lasagna and thought it was OK but not particularly great. Although the prices are standard UWS fare, I would have liked to see a bit more dedication to the quality and taste of the food given what we paid for the meal. That said, the dessert was a highlight, as always. If you come here, be sure to get the mousse. It's always a crowd pleaser and they give you a ton of it. read more

The servers are mindful of showtimes and will accommodate to ensure you make it to your show in time which is just phenomenal service. The food is always fresh-- a menu comprised of mostly classic Italian dishes made with the freshest ingredients. I recommend the caprese salad, as it is the best I've ever had without question. The buratta is divine and the coarse sea salt is a nice touch.
