Had breadfast here yesterday before flying back home, and I wish I had found this place earlier. A clean comfortable and welcoming diner with great staff and great breakfasts. I chose the 2 eggs any style breakfast with coffee and easy over eggs that also came with toast. I selected fresh fruit instead of French fries or hash browns which was a no cost option and they gave a beautiful large assorted fruit bowl. If/when I go back to SF I will go back here for breakfast read more

I asked the Asian gent at the counter if I could get in and out by 9. He said sure. 10 minutes later I didn't even have water. I left. The food didn't look bad but I could have had breakfast if the staff had cared. read more

Great solid bistro menus the corned beef hash is epic so is the salmon omelette. I am so happy they survived the pandemic. Randomly came upon this cafe when walking around our hotel looking for a brunch place. Even though it was super busy on a Sunday morning, we were seated within 5 min. Service was fast and friendly. Lots of variety on the menu including continental, American, French, and Mexican breakfast options. Everything was tasty! Food is not drenched in butter or oil like in a lot of diners which I appreciated. Definitely recommend the fruit salad side. It had 10 different fruits in it and was fresh and sweet. Just a note that it is a busy place so it's not quiet. But recommend the brunch experience. read more

We stopped in for breakfast and enjoyed fresh coffee and ordered BB pancakes and my husband ordered the Irish Hash. Both were delish, fresh and hot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was fantastic, very friendly and the restaurant was extremely clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server Alex was very nice and attentive. Honestly we were headed to Pinecrest but they were to open at 7:00AM, not 24/7 as advertised. As we sat and enjoyed breakfast they finally opened at 7:20. I want to be upfront and clear that Cafe Mason has my highest recommendations. I really enjoyed the old-school vibe, like going back in time. While staying in SF for a conference, it was a pleasure to find this place across from my hotel. The staff made me feel incredibly welcome. Everyone there works hard and as a team. I like how they make real juice with a press and the smaller details, like only giving out straws if requested. I had the Croque Monsieur which was excellent, but the standout was the Soju Bloody Mary. I really appreciate when people give their best effort, and I believe this is the case with Cafe Mason. I sincerely hope you give them a try! read more

The diner across the street was packed and had a line out the door so we noticed Cafe Mason across the street and decided to check it out..I'm so glad we went because I had a taste for corned beef hash w eggs and this one didn't disappoint! The place has rich wood tables throughout and it feels not-so-casual at first glance but the warmth of the staff made me feel right at home immediately. If you notice, my fruit cup had a cherry and bananas, which was a rare touch and felt like a gourmet selection. My companion wanted eggs Benedict as well as corned beef hash so she was excited to see the Irish version. We didn't feel rushed and the food was delicious. Of course, with San Francisco, we got a slice of Sourdough as toast and I loved it! You should definitely give this a try. read more

The food is Okay. It's a small portion of food, one piece of bread, small hash browns, and small eggs. The eggs were good, but the hash browns had no taste. The service was excellent. They greeted you with a smile and were very friendly. The Ambiance of this cafe is pretty good, a little too loud, but still, I got to enjoy my breakfast...if you are looking for a big breakfast, this is NOT the cafe for you. We traveled to SF and we were looking for a diner and came across this place on Mason street. We arrived at 10 am on a Monday and the place was 3/4 full. The place is comfortable and cozy and a good place to enjoy breakfast. We had their regular coffee. We're coffee drinkers and we always want to enjoy breakfast with a good cup of coffee. It's not the best coffee but it's not the worst either. But we enjoyed thier coffee. We ordered their French toast and all meat omelette. Both are good and generous in serving. Service was also good and always ask us for any refills (coffee) If you come to SF and are near Union Square, try this place and you'll not regret it. read more

Cafe Mason was walking distance from the hotel I stayed at during my visit to San Fran. The hotel provided a 20% off the check. However, everyone in the group forgot it that morning. We were a group of 7 ppl and waited maybe 5 mins before being sat down. It was very busy inside, and the place may have a capacity for around 75 folks. We were sat towards the back where the tables for large groups were located. The waited promptly brought water, menus, and took our drink order. We didn't waste any minute and provided our request -- the cooks are very quick and perform their jobs very well. Everything was good, except for the coffee, which was extremely weak. They need to improve on that. Other than that, everything was as expected in a diner. Good and fast meals! read more

Attended a conference in SF recently for 3 days and I had breakfast here during my entire stay! Service was swift, food was good, coffee was ok but the reason I kept on coming back was the fresh orange juice! Breakfast at the hotel could be expensive, but the price here was very reasonable. My fiancé and I stopped by on our trip here to SF and I'm so glad we did! The staff were all super friendly and our server Alex was a total sweetheart! We got seated right away in a booth right next to the kitchen; even though we were right there it wasn't noisy at all. The food was absolutely delicious and for the price, you can't beat it! The overall vibe of the diner is very cozy with a bunch of oldies but goldies music playing. My fiancé said this is one of the best Reubens he had ever had! Don't know if I was black but I'm currently in the United States Navy visiting San Francisco on leave from San Diego. Saw this place while walking and thought it looked good. I walk into the restaurant, the sign says waited to be seated. They seated four groups of people before they seated me. It was ONLY ME at the party. Left a $1.50 tip. Cafe Mason has been around for a while and as a San Franciscan, it's a part of town that I don't frequent as it's in a touristy part of town, not far from Union Square. There are also downtown residential units nearby, but I don't think residents go to this place often. I might be wrong, but I'm in the opinion that it caters mainly to out of towners. I haven't been there for years, but the good thing is, the place looks good and not shabby at all. I ordered the croissant French toast and I was underwhelmed. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it could surely use some perking up. I root for places like this to thrive in the city. I certainly hope they look for ways to elevate their food. The location and facility is great. Just don't take your eyes off the ball, in this case, the food. read more

On February 2, 2024, I was denied service at Café Mason and not given a reason. I ordered some food and coffee. I was served the coffee, but a staff member told me I would have to pay up front in order to get his food. I asked why, and the staff member said, "Because I said so." The staff member was very rude and dismissive towards me. I said in that case, I did not want to get the food and would just pay for the coffee. The staff member said not to pay for the coffee and told me to leave. Again, he did not give an explanation why. This experience being denied service affected my health greatly and caused me significant distress. I does not understand why the staff member treated him this way, and believe I was being discriminated against. read more

I have no idea why this place was so popular. By far, it was the worst experience I'd had in San Francisco dining. I chose this place as I walked in the neighborhood, they had some seemingly unique dishes on the menu that I wanted to try. The pumpkin creme crepe was my order. Sounded good on paper but wasn't that great to order. Our server forgot our drinks. I was upset about that, she seemed apologetic, but once you place your order, be aware that you're on your own. It took us FOREVER to flag her down, and I believe I had to ask the hostess. All in all, I wasn't thrilled, but I kept seeing a line outside and I wanted to warn them all about it. I didn't though. I just didn't and won't return on my next visit. read more

High ratings, few reviews, but we were adventurous and decided to try it, glad we did. Ingredients is on a corner, looked relatively new from the outside LED "Open" sign prominent in the window. Once we walked in, however, we entered a different world from what we were expecting. Luxurious mustard seats, lots of tables for four, seating with high gray bench banquettes, reminding me of a 70s tune ("Diamonds in the back..."); retro vibe elegantly done with modern lighting and sconces. Not cheesy by any stretch, but in a neighborhood place you could wear sweats or a suit to eat at. Our waiter was Jackie, an enthusiastic young man who seemed like he wasn't just there to wait on tables. Throughout the evening he was easy to chat with while being knowledgeable about his food he served without being condescending. He made someone unfamiliar with the menu feel new-to-us dishes weren't going to be an experiment. We ordered the beet salad, the 8 ounce hamburger with fries, the mushroom risotto, and on Jackie's recommendation the Nepal BBQ ribs. In the meantime they served us house made brioche buns-warm, soft, delicate and chewy, flaky; reminded me of Texas Roadhouse buns, but far better. Served with a little olive oil and balsamic in a separated dish, you could eat them plain and enjoy the craftsmanship of baked excellence. We wanted more but in retrospect we would've been filled up with brioche and not enjoyed the meal. Tough choice. The roasted beet salad, served with shaved fennel, a beet balsamic jus, and an apple-citrus slaw that was fresh, sweet with hints of citrus offset by the fennel so it wasn't cloyingly sweet. The textures were enjoyable-the softness of the beets with the crunch of the fennel slaw, we anxiously cleaned the plate! Next came the risotto and the burger. What was enjoyable was the mushroom risotto-a refreshing presentation of toothsome Arborio, creamy yet firm, interplaying with a variety of mushrooms that immediately became one of the better risotto we've had, texturally excellent, not one note like most risotto, it came out hot but not searing; deft hands created a concoction that kept us going back for more. The burger was simple, cooked medium, but one of the best we've had in a very long time. We should qualify the burger as a cheeseburger as we were given a choice- bleu cheese or cheddar, we chose the bleu cheese and it was a good choice, just the right amount complimenting the veggies that came with burger. Oh, the fries-skinny, perfectly fried they stayed equally crunchy from first to last, served in a mini fry basket that was cute but it also showed they meant business, these fries were better than that Irish fast food place, and aren't they the iconic standard of French fries? IMO Ingredients is now the new standard. They were served with house made ketchup, excellent with or without. The ribs came last originally accompanied by a Mac and cheese but since we ordered risotto they served the ribs separately with a slaw. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone, but a little more savory than sweet , served with just enough sauce to accompany the ribs without being messy, easy enough to eat using knife and fork, the kicker was a hint of five spice, subtle enough if it's in your background, but not an annoyance if it's not. Flavorful, hearty, filling, delicious, We ended our meal with a homemade "apple pie," a creation made of thinly sliced apples, perhaps poached, with cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, along with fresh fruit, and a yummy scoop of "creamy"mango sorbet. Lots of surprising good vibes-no crust, all apple, not heavy; the mix of spices played well with each other; mango sorbet wasn't icy like sorbets tend to be, the fresh fruits added a touch of freshness to the dish that could have been sweet-centric, but not. A delicate yet satisfying end to a delicious meal. We met the chef, Sok, at the end of our meal, who had his culinary training n Kathmandu and expanded his repertoire in his world travels. He definitely knows how to elevate a good meal, and his Nepal and French influences add an understated flair to what he cooks. Sok takes tremendous pride in what he presents to the diner, evidenced by who he hires, and how each dish is presented. Dining in Ingredients is gratifying, from the dining room to the staff to the dishes themselves. More people should give Ingredients a try, a gem of a neighborhood find, a rarity in SF! wow, never have i ever had a worse experience in a diner in my entire 24 years of life. the menu was great, a lot of variety and i cant complain about the food because i never got a chance to try mine. i was visiting san fran for my friend's bday and she lives out of the city so neither of us really knew the area. me, and four of our friends decided to go here because we were a little drunky and it was the end of the night so of course we wanted some food. two girls in the booth behind us were glaring at my sister so she asked them what was wrong and immediately these girls started screaming in our faces and disrupting the entire restaurant. we told them it's all good, lets just drop it, but they continued to call us names and disrespect every person at our table. they must have been on some sort of drugs because they were screaming a mile a minute and then proceeded to walk up to our table, throw a glass of water on my friend (hitting the booth behind us as well) while the entire restaurant was booing at them. they were threatening us telling us they will "kick our @$$es" and saying "i will kill you b*tch". an older man got up out of his seat and asked the girls to drop it and sit down which then prompted one of the girls to grab her thermus of hot tea and threaten to throw it on him. at this point we were about to call the cops, but instead we asked the server to speak with a manager but she said "we dont have a manager on duty during the late night shift" and i asked if they could at least be asked to leave since they are ruining everyone's experience they said "we cant kick thme out they are regulars". so we asked for our food to be boxed up and we left, at that point our appetite for drunk food was gone so we gave all of our boxed food to some homeless men. i dont think we should have paid for anything in that restaurant and they really need to get either a security guard on duty during the early am hours or they need to hire some staff with common sense. BY FAR the worst customer service in the universe!!!!! we asked our hotel security lguy later about that cafe and he said a lot of the time they find crack pipes and heroin needles in the bathroom. next time you and your friends have the drunk munchies just stick to good ol' Dennys!! read more

this place isn't a "fast food joint" or an diner but more an european look and feel now- no longer has the european/american diner clash scenery look. "oh and not forget the prices and service" the New Look- they rearrange the previous owned paintings, add ceiling drop deco, recolor the walls, add the scounces and redid the columns, redid the booth, add new chandliers and track lights (by getting rid of the water fountain ceiling features, white huge wooden box lights that were over every single booth, the red velvet booth w. chrome finishes to wooden booth, and the chrome countertops with granite countertops, got rid of the fake palm trees, the fixed jukebox and that was replaced by an extra table... any of the 50's look) all but the neon lights at the booth its still there but in a way disguise also "now" the espresso machine seems to pop out more with the yellow and red wall interiors as well with the sign above it is more noticeable than before. "parking for italians only" the owner told me personally that- -the parking sign is for the espresso machine and the pasta dishes and that he wanted to focus more on the European interiors like the paintings and the dishes that they serve here and less of an 50's diner feel look- so it was time for an interior upgrade cafe Mason management- it would be also nice to have an host, cashier, food helper to the table, or even an drink refill person/baritas for the fancy coffee especially for "rush hour" p.s. the outside awning was a design from dinnerware thats now in their basement/ storage room read more

Myself and a party of 5 went to Mason's California Cuisine on the first day of the new year 2012, I was excited about going to this restaurant the menu was interesting & the prices were good ,I went to use the restroom there was a female and male sign on the door of restroom ,myself & a man from the kitchen were both waiting he was looking at me so I said hello & wished him a happy new year in english and my broken spanish ,when the other kitchen worker came out he told him I was an ombre this means man in spanish ,I was still waiting for the restroom when he finished using the mens restroom he told me to go use it, I went & told the hostess she was confused then I told another waitress she was also confused ,I had asked for the manger both times neither of the women got him then while I was asking for the names of the owner and worker a man approached and asked what the problem was he said he was the manger at this time, I just wanted to know the name of the kitchen worker who was out of site and the name of the owner ,I called the next day the owner said there was no one that worked there with the name they gave me, I'm a tall woman with a deep voice but it would matter I discriminated against and talked about by the kitchen help ,I was a paying costumer, I was disrespected and nothing was done and in all places San Francisco in 2012 read more

The late night waitress here is just awful. I really think the management should step in and either retrain her or reevaluate her usefulness to the restaurant. The first and last time I will ever dine at this restaurant, the waitress forgot to input one of our meals and all of our appetizers. My friend ordered a mushroom burger with extra mushrooms and no tomatoes. Instead she received some other burger with absolutely no mushrooms. We asked her for ketchup and the waitress brought us everything but (three things of hot sauce and mustard). It just seem like she did not care at all. We confronted her after the ketchup, as that was the last straw of carelessness. She did not apologize at all. She got defensive and asked us what our problem was and what she expected her to do. We simply asked her to do her job, take an order and deliver what we ordered. We all work in retail we understand how shitty some customers can be, but we were nothing but nice and patient up to a point. We all make mistakes, but this waitress got everything wrong. they have Korean cocktail beverages. made with Soju. not Japanese sake. it may be close to Japanese sake but the Russians dining staff loves it even though its not made with vodka. Vodka is 40 % volume while Soju is 25%-30% volume which is under the Beer & Wine license. any hard liquor that over 35% needs the liquor license. hence there's an beverage listed as GangNam Cafe under that category to represent one of the Korean towns/province area in Seoul. And why they carry Korean SoJu Cocktails. they don't have Bloody Mary's but Passion Mary since its made with again Korean SoJu and not VodKa. they started carrying Korean Cocktails since 2006. when one of the owner's kids decided to work full-time. Korean Cocktails in LA and New York has become popular in 2008. This place is owned by an Korean family. Hence, the Korean Soju cocktails list. i used to love this place until september my finance worked here and in jun she requested vacation for august in august . the manager " Daniele " said sure go a ahead, so we went when we came back she asked for her shifts back and never got them after three weeks of waiting they told her there were no shifts available and she was let go. after two weeks she applied for unemployment after waiting for one month with no avail we asked the manager what happened he replied you were fired for no reason, after talking to her while the conversation was being recorded by her iPhone he explained that the management want going to pay more taxes for her unemployment and she should go get a job. I give one star for being open late and the food can sometimes be decent. The service sucks. If you're drunk and want to look at the cute Russian eye candy then great. I have seen people walk out after being seated and have had no one take their order. During Sunday brunch hours it's not uncommon for the manager to come over and take your plates away or fill your glass. If you want to go for some good hassle free food you might as well just go up to Loris, at least it's consistent and they give you your refill instead of ignoring you after dropping off your food. I needed never ever heard about this location, that is not far away from me, and initially perceptions while you push up usually are not spectacular - it simply seems like a relatively aged family members house inside a household community. The food here used to be much better, so I was surprised by today's meals... The servings were quite small, much smaller than We remembered and it was okay.. My wife loved her gnocchi Siciliana. My salmon was okay, but a small filled for 17. The grilled cheese sandwich was about 3.5 inches in length. The salmon fettuccine was pretty good. Started out with the pumpkin crepes and the blintzes (with blueberry sauce). Delicious, both. We ended up also getting a omlette with feta and spinich. That was a bit less flavorful, but also may have not been as delicious because we had just polished off two highly flavorful dishes. As far as diners go Cafe Mason is average, but there are a few items on the menu that go beyond a typical cafe. They serve a couple of really nice gnocchi dishes as well as typical diner fare. They are open 24 hours a day and are much better than the other two diners within 100 feet of their location. read more

The only food leftover were a few slices of pizza and two wings, which I took home because no one else wanted to and I wasn't about to watch pizza and wings go to waste. Dessert was fantastic. I went with the ice cream sandwich that was made with roasted banana ice cream sandwiched between two lemon cookies. That was great. I also ordered the Peaches Peaches Peaches cocktail, which amused the waiter, and loved it. If you love peach and fruity cocktails, that's the one for you. The wait staff didn't seem overwhelmed, we had plenty of room at the long table we were seated at for drinks and plates, and the room was quiet enough that we had no issue hearing each other talk, even down the table. To access the hotel proper, one must go around the corner and enter via the door on Geary Street by the porte-cochère. It's a pleasant space, filling one side of the lofty lobby. Marble floor and counters. Wooden café tables. You order food and/or coffee at the counter and if you are dining in, you'll get a number to put on your table and someone will bring your food to you when it's ready. For coffee, just wait around and it will be ready shortly. The menu includes pastries, sandwiches, pizza, and pasta, depending on the time of day. There are grab-and-go pre-made food items in a cooler, along with a variety of beverages. Packaged snacks are also displayed for purchase. The prices for the chips and such are well in excess of what you'd pay a a local shop, of which there are several down on Market Street. You're paying for convenience. In the course of my most recent stay at the St. Francis, I had coffee several times, as well as a breakfast sandwich and a pepperoni pizza. I have had their pasta on previous visits. The food and coffee are generally good and the people behind the counter are nice. I was particularly impressed with the pizza, which is among the better ones I've had from a hotel restaurant. The breakfast sandwich was okay, but nothing to write home about. It was supposed to have prosciutto and tomatoes, but what was on the roll was mostly egg. The pasta is pretty good. I like the Nonna's Ragu, if you're wondering what sauce to choose. It's hotel prices, but pretty solid if you don't want to leave the hotel. They do close at 9:00 p.m. as of this writing, and the hotel doesn't have any other grab-and-go kiosk, so be sure to get what you need before it gets too late. Otherwise your only other option will be to go out or order the pricey in-room dining.

They even offer a few stuffed animals and miscellaneous items here as well so it's worth checking our of you're staying here, but to anyone in the city looking for a place to eat, this is not somewhere I would plan to visit unless you are already a guest in the hotel.

Next to the dining room was where the buffet was set up. There was an array of Hot Selections (Bacon, Sausage, French Toast or Pancakes, Herbed Roasted Breakfast Potatoes, Scrambled Eggs, Steel Cut Oatmeal, Chef's Custom Selection Dim Sum), a Cold Selection section (Cold Mezza, Cheese Board & Deli Counter, Fresh Whole Fruit, Fresh Cut Fruit, Cereals and Cold Dairy Products) and baked items (Fresh Pastries and Breads, Assorted Gluten Free and Vegan Pastries and a Selection of Breads plus Condiments). The spread was nice. I loved their crispy bacon and oatmeal + toppings of dried & fresh fruit with seeds. The croissants were also good.
