I'm back here in SF for the week and how I missed this place ! Unfortunately I'm not staying local but out near the airport and having to Uber In/Out of the city. If I was staying in the city at one of the hotels, this would be my breakfast spot every morning I got here a little bit after they opened this morning and was seated immediately. There were a few other folks in there, enjoying breakfast and let me just tell you the staff is simply incredible. They are very friendly, very welcoming and are willing to explain different items on their breakfast menu and their lunch menu as well. I have not had the pleasure of grabbing lunch here as they close at 2:30 but I'm going to make an a point this week to go up around 12:30 1 o'clock and enjoy lunch there. But onto my breakfast I absolutely love eggs, Benedict, and this by far is the best eggs Benedict. I've had among my travels along with their hashbrowns, and I always get a large, freshly squeezed orange juice, which is completely off the wall and awesome and a cup of coffee. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience is kind of on the old school side like you're in France or Paris. The decor is really nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is absolutely spotless and you can tell they take so much pride in the upkeep of the restaurant which you don't see too much anymore in places.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If I was able to give them 10 stars, I would I absolutely love this place and I look forward to always dining here when I'm in San Francisco. So yes, without a doubt, I highly recommend stopping here for breakfast. If you have time, you will not be disappointed, and they have all kind of different food products from omelettes to toast the pancakes to French toast. Everything I manageable they got and you will thoroughly enjoy it.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Most of my colleagues like Cafe Mason. It's very friendly inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As a diner frequented by people who are only briefly in town, they make an effort to recognize if you're returning during the week, or year over year. They are also ruthlessly efficient at seating tables and they enforce the role that your whole party must be present to sit. I like that there are several egg dishes on hand: omelets, frittatas, eggs Benedict. But while the food always looks pretty, I think it needs more salt to be five stars. On the whole though, there are much worse places within a block of here. I would say Cafe Mason has a high floor in terms of quality. And if you're not me, you might love it!

Hubbie had to go to a conference in San Francisco so I decided to tag along. First morning we needed breakfast after a day of nothing but driving. Cafe Mason was around the corner from where we were staying. The service was excellent. I always asked for extra crispy hash browns. The server asked me if they were crispy enough? No one ever has asked me that. The food was delicious and exactly how I wanted it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think my favorite part of the meal was even though I was a little far from home on a Sunday morning, there were families all around me. There were several elderly people there to meet with old friends. It had a homey, local vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Great place!! A few minutes from the Grand Hyatt San Francisco, so worth it. Service for very professional and good. My grill cheese was amazing with multiple cheeses and crispy sourdough... yum. Husband had bacon and eggs, cooked just as ordered. Definitely will be back, a huge must stop to eat when in The City

No frills classic diner. I went for breakfast on a Wednesday morning around 8:30 and there were only a couple tables occupied. Staff was friendly and attentive. Got a traditional breakfast of bacon and eggs and it was delivered hot and quick. Would go back again to try more of the menu.

First off the food is amazing but what made our experience even better was our server Alex. Such a genuine soul and so attentive! He made not only our experience better but our day! Can't wait to come back for the delicious food and Alex!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Delightful ambience in a 30+ year old cafe which serves breakfast and lunch daily (6:30AM to 2:30PM).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the 2x4 with banana pecan pancakes as an up grade and the waffles, whipped cream, and eggs with pecans added as well! I also had a diet Dr. Pepper--the first on our trip here. Roberto, our server was the best we have had during our 5 day visit!! (And the others have been quite good, too.)

Cafe Mason has delicious food, great service, and a friendly ambiance. It is an excellent place to have a good breakfast with the family. I was on a family vacation in San Francisco last week, and we decided to have breakfast at Cafe Mason since it was close to our Hotel. Let me tell you, we enjoyed the food and the service so much that we had to return the next day, and on the last day, we were in San Francisco. The waitresses Alejandra and Sibel were so sweet, and helpful. They took our order fast, we got the delicious food quickly. Alex was also very helpful and friendly. Great Team! Everyone was always making sure we were enjoying our food and time at the Cafe. If you are in San Francisco I highly recommend Cafe Mason. read more

Found this place on recommendation from hotel bell man. Service is excellent, coffee was delicious and the breakfast was outstanding. The interior is very cozy and clean. The menus selection is unbelievable with very descent pricing, the hotel we were staying at only offered $39 Buffett, cafe mason was $36 for two people with excellent, fresh portions. I would definitely recommend this place. Most importantly Service is Excellent! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! read more

Visited on a Sunday to catch up on homework. Friendly staff and decent ambiance! Ordered a chicken Caesar salad and a peach bellini. The salad was mediocre--I expected croutons and Parmesan cheese for a Caesar salad. The dressing tasted odd, more like straight mayonnaise. The more I ate, the more unsatisfied I felt. read more

Stopped by to grab food because it was the first place we saw and we were starving! It was pretty busy but they were able to sit us right away. Everyone pretty much licked their plates clean. I got the avocado toast and OMG it was so good. read more

I enjoyed the food here a lot. eggs bacon hash browns and pancakes. Pancakes were by far #1!! Service was kind of weird. We had one lady then at the end when we went in paid, she ignored us and 2 other guys came over and handled it. It was very weird. She even looked at the cash (needed change), didn't say anything and walked away. read more

Say it with me: AVOCADO TOAST. My gosh - there is a reason that this establishment has been around since 1994. Hospitality was astounding and brought extra lemons (that is huge for me)! But the kicker was the avocado toast. Roasted zucchini and tomatoes are layered on top of a light basil olive oil drizzle. The bread still held up when they put a beautiful layer of avocado over it. walked in and out of restaurant after looking at menu and seeing two entrées offered and a very minimal selection of hot and cold sandwiches. I asked the waiter if I'd been given the correct menu as mine seems to not have much on there. I also left because like so many businesses in San Francisco they have no air-conditioning and San Francisco is in the middle of a heat wave with heat advisories until Saturday. I don't know how these restaurants expect people to sit and eat in their hot buildings.. read more

The first time I tried Cafe Mason was because it was around the corner from my hotel (The Handlery) and I was given a voucher because room service was non-operational due to Covid. Dining by myself, I ordered a glass of wine and the chicken fettuccine. For $8, the wine was decent but not great, but definitely one of the cheapest glasses of Cab Sauv you'll find in the city. The pasta was delicious - lots of grilled chicken and mushrooms, fantastic sauce and buttery garlic cheese toast. So good, huge portion but sadly, my hotel room did not have the microwave or fridge I would need to finish it later. The two waiters were great. Food was made to order and came out quickly. Fast forward to last week and I took my husband there for lunch while staying again at the Handlery. I couldn't help myself and ordered the chicken fettuccine again. Same plate of creamy deliciousness. Hubby had the club sandwich and being a club sandwich afficienado, he raved about it. 5 stars all around. I hope once their staffing improves they go back to being open longer hours. This is a great find for variety, quality and price in this area. Zero complaints. read more

Very good diner cafe. We wanted to try the one up street- PineDiner and it had a line out door so we came to Cafe Mason and it was packed on Memorial Day sat up on counter our choice to get in quickly. I had my boy and his buddies. Smart move lots of people flowing in and we got seats. The food was so good. My waffles whipped cream was my favorite and the bacon was good too. I have been going here about two months now after my gym workouts. Great food and for the most part good service as well. I usually get out in a booth. Today there were plenty booth, the guy who sat me put me at a table. I asked him if I could get a booth instead. He said there are no booths available, clearly there were plenty booths available. Hence why I asked, a couple came right behind me and he sat them at a booth. I looked around to make sure I wasn't tripping as if one person was the reason he didn't put me in a booth. But, I seen multiple single person occupied booths. Very unfortunate. I don't like that type of treatment at all. Might not come back due to that. read more

Staying at the Hilton (which I do not recommend) we needed a breakfast spot. Cafe Mason is just a block away, but that block walk is reminiscent of Dorothy and company trying to get to the Emerald City. At least my kids had the opportunity to see first hand how a city can self destruct by following a certain political ideology. But I digress... The entire block is blandly unkept, but Cafe Mason's storefront is inviting with a grand awning that appears like a lone island in the pacific. We arrived at 9am and the joint was rocking. We had a 4 minute wait for a table to open up. The interior is clean and beautiful with a 19th century vibe. The hostess greeted us with a smile, as did the waitress and the busboy. There are only a few boots at the window and the rest of the seating is tables for two or four. The breakfast menu is extensive so choosing between items was rough, but we made our choices: California Benedict: $19, two slightly over poached eggs over huge avocado slices which were lying on a bed of sautéed spinach atop two flat toasted English muffins. Smothered in hollandaise sauce. Perfectly crunchy hashbrowns accompanied the gastronomic work of art. Pancakes & Sausage links: $18, Two 10" fluffy pancakes served with whipped butter and homemade hot maple syrup. Four 6" mild sausage links, tender and juicy, browned to perfection. Pancakes, bacon & Eggs: $19, Again, 2 fluffy pancakes cooked perfectly with whipped butter & hot homemade maple syrup. 4 long alienate strips of bacon were crunchy and moist at the same time. The scrambled eggs were cooked medium and were seasoned well. Orange Juice: $7, It's OJ, how can it cost Seven Dollars???!! ...... BECAUSE IT IS FANTASTIC, that's how. This glass was filled with the Pulp, nectar and seeds of what just moments before was a ripe, sweet and plump Orange. Wow! I recommend Cafe Mason for your breakfast adventure. The neighborhood is sketchy as heck, but the cafe is legit. read more

We went to Mason's Café because our hotel gave us a voucher for breakfast. The café is conveniently located at Union Square next to a lot of hotels. I had their smoked salmon eggs benedict and French toast. The eggs benedict was pretty mediocre, I would even say pretty bland. The French toast was also very basic and didn't have much creativity. I would of rated this diner as 2.5 but the service made up for the quality of the food. read more

So glad I found Cafe Mason after an appointment at the federal building. Many good vegetarian options. I had mushroom Benedict. It was delicious, but the hollandaise sauce could have used a bit more lemon and Dijon. The service was friendly and efficient. I will be back. read more

Great spot me and my daughter came across while staying in San Francisco. The food is great, must get their hash browns that are cooked perfectly, so crispy on top. Quick and friendly service. Forced TIP!!! They added an 11$ tip themselves wtf!!! Food mediocre at best terrible service from Nina so bored and bitter the host in the beginning was very welcoming the food is overpriced came lukewarm I asked for hash browns instead of fries which are 3$ cheaper Nina said it was impossible to switch she didn't even bother asking we paid almost 80$ for 2 meals no thank you over cooked sunny side up tuna melt super thin and small omelette was so thin and sad this place was so bad I had to write this review before getting up! read more

This spot is open early (6:30 AM) and right around the corner from The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel on Geary. A perfect spot for breakfast when you're still getting acclimated to the time change and every independent restaurant is closed when you wake up at 5AM. My daughter had the fresh squeezed orange juice, so delicious, but be prepared for lots of pulp that comes with fresh squeezed goodness. The blueberry Swedish Pancake, crepes with crème fraîche and fruit was light and delicious, but the real show stopper is the Billionaire Bacon. That's right Billionaire Bacon... Bacon with brown sugar, black pepper, and chili flakes. I didn't have it alone, which is available, but on an Eggs Benedict dish. I thought it might be too spicy for my daughter, but she loved it and ate half of my breakfast too. Thank you Cafe Mason for making our first morning in San Francisco get off to a fabulous start. read more

For years I have gone to Cafe Mason at least once a year in hopes it will be better. There's a reason why this place is often empty. Let me set the stage. Four guests in entire restaurant at 12:45pm, Sunday. Seven staff. Drink orders arrived after 10 minutes. My latte was barely luke-warm. My lunch partner got his food, then 10 minutes later after asking my Mushroom/eggs Benedict arrived. Why the long wait w more staff than patrons?Nothing was prepared as ordered. Over medium eggs were served as over hard. My poached eggs Benedict were in fact hard boiled eggs. Couldn't even find someone soon enough to get our check. Food was meh. Once in the city we simply walk throughout Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf and into North Beach. The Buena Vista is an iconic spot dating back to the mid 1800's. It's great to pop in, have an Irish coffee, and enjoy the vibe. We got seated immediately at the bar. Service was great and everyone was enjoying futbol. San Francisco looks amazing! wow, never have i ever had a worse experience in a diner in my entire 24 years of life. the menu was great, a lot of variety and i cant complain about the food because i never got a chance to try mine. i was visiting san fran for my friend's bday and she lives out of the city so neither of us really knew the area. me, and four of our friends decided to go here because we were a little drunky and it was the end of the night so of course we wanted some food. two girls in the booth behind us were glaring at my sister so she asked them what was wrong and immediately these girls started screaming in our faces and disrupting the entire restaurant. we told them it's all good, lets just drop it, but they continued to call us names and disrespect every person at our table. they must have been on some sort of drugs because they were screaming a mile a minute and then proceeded to walk up to our table, throw a glass of water on my friend (hitting the booth behind us as well) while the entire restaurant was booing at them. they were threatening us telling us they will "kick our @$$es" and saying "i will kill you b*tch". an older man got up out of his seat and asked the girls to drop it and sit down which then prompted one of the girls to grab her thermus of hot tea and threaten to throw it on him. at this point we were about to call the cops, but instead we asked the server to speak with a manager but she said "we dont have a manager on duty during the late night shift" and i asked if they could at least be asked to leave since they are ruining everyone's experience they said "we cant kick thme out they are regulars". so we asked for our food to be boxed up and we left, at that point our appetite for drunk food was gone so we gave all of our boxed food to some homeless men. i dont think we should have paid for anything in that restaurant and they really need to get either a security guard on duty during the early am hours or they need to hire some staff with common sense. BY FAR the worst customer service in the universe!!!!! we asked our hotel security lguy later about that cafe and he said a lot of the time they find crack pipes and heroin needles in the bathroom. next time you and your friends have the drunk munchies just stick to good ol' Dennys!! read more

this place isn't a "fast food joint" or an diner but more an european look and feel now- no longer has the european/american diner clash scenery look. "oh and not forget the prices and service" the New Look- they rearrange the previous owned paintings, add ceiling drop deco, recolor the walls, add the scounces and redid the columns, redid the booth, add new chandliers and track lights (by getting rid of the water fountain ceiling features, white huge wooden box lights that were over every single booth, the red velvet booth w. chrome finishes to wooden booth, and the chrome countertops with granite countertops, got rid of the fake palm trees, the fixed jukebox and that was replaced by an extra table... any of the 50's look) all but the neon lights at the booth its still there but in a way disguise also "now" the espresso machine seems to pop out more with the yellow and red wall interiors as well with the sign above it is more noticeable than before. "parking for italians only" the owner told me personally that- -the parking sign is for the espresso machine and the pasta dishes and that he wanted to focus more on the European interiors like the paintings and the dishes that they serve here and less of an 50's diner feel look- so it was time for an interior upgrade cafe Mason management- it would be also nice to have an host, cashier, food helper to the table, or even an drink refill person/baritas for the fancy coffee especially for "rush hour" p.s. the outside awning was a design from dinnerware thats now in their basement/ storage room read more

The late night waitress here is just awful. I really think the management should step in and either retrain her or reevaluate her usefulness to the restaurant. The first and last time I will ever dine at this restaurant, the waitress forgot to input one of our meals and all of our appetizers. My friend ordered a mushroom burger with extra mushrooms and no tomatoes. Instead she received some other burger with absolutely no mushrooms. We asked her for ketchup and the waitress brought us everything but (three things of hot sauce and mustard). It just seem like she did not care at all. they have Korean cocktail beverages. made with Soju. not Japanese sake. it may be close to Japanese sake but the Russians dining staff loves it even though its not made with vodka. Vodka is 40 % volume while Soju is 25%-30% volume which is under the Beer & Wine license. any hard liquor that over 35% needs the liquor license. hence there's an beverage listed as GangNam Cafe under that category to represent one of the Korean towns/province area in Seoul. And why they carry Korean SoJu Cocktails. they don't have Bloody Mary's but Passion Mary since its made with again Korean SoJu and not VodKa. they started carrying Korean Cocktails since 2006. when one of the owner's kids decided to work full-time. Korean Cocktails in LA and New York has become popular in 2008. This place is owned by an Korean family. Hence, the Korean Soju cocktails list. i used to love this place until september my finance worked here and in jun she requested vacation for august in august . the manager " Daniele " said sure go a ahead, so we went when we came back she asked for her shifts back and never got them after three weeks of waiting they told her there were no shifts available and she was let go. after two weeks she applied for unemployment after waiting for one month with no avail we asked the manager what happened he replied you were fired for no reason, after talking to her while the conversation was being recorded by her iPhone he explained that the management want going to pay more taxes for her unemployment and she should go get a job. Had a wonderful experience at Cafe Mansion! The food was absolutely amazing, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. They truly made us feel welcome and valued as guests. I give one star for being open late and the food can sometimes be decent. The service sucks. If you're drunk and want to look at the cute Russian eye candy then great. I have seen people walk out after being seated and have had no one take their order. During Sunday brunch hours it's not uncommon for the manager to come over and take your plates away or fill your glass. If you want to go for some good hassle free food you might as well just go up to Loris, at least it's consistent and they give you your refill instead of ignoring you after dropping off your food. The food here used to be much better, so I was surprised by today's meals... The servings were quite small, much smaller than We remembered and it was okay.. My wife loved her gnocchi Siciliana. My salmon was okay, but a small filled for 17. The grilled cheese sandwich was about 3.5 inches in length. The salmon fettuccine was pretty good. As far as diners go Cafe Mason is average, but there are a few items on the menu that go beyond a typical cafe. They serve a couple of really nice gnocchi dishes as well as typical diner fare. They are open 24 hours a day and are much better than the other two diners within 100 feet of their location. read more

To access the hotel proper, one must go around the corner and enter via the door on Geary Street by the porte-cochère. It's a pleasant space, filling one side of the lofty lobby. Marble floor and counters. Wooden café tables. You order food and/or coffee at the counter and if you are dining in, you'll get a number to put on your table and someone will bring your food to you when it's ready. For coffee, just wait around and it will be ready shortly. The menu includes pastries, sandwiches, pizza, and pasta, depending on the time of day. There are grab-and-go pre-made food items in a cooler, along with a variety of beverages. Packaged snacks are also displayed for purchase. The prices for the chips and such are well in excess of what you'd pay a a local shop, of which there are several down on Market Street. You're paying for convenience. In the course of my most recent stay at the St. Francis, I had coffee several times, as well as a breakfast sandwich and a pepperoni pizza. I have had their pasta on previous visits. The food and coffee are generally good and the people behind the counter are nice. I was particularly impressed with the pizza, which is among the better ones I've had from a hotel restaurant. The breakfast sandwich was okay, but nothing to write home about. It was supposed to have prosciutto and tomatoes, but what was on the roll was mostly egg. The pasta is pretty good. I like the Nonna's Ragu, if you're wondering what sauce to choose. It's hotel prices, but pretty solid if you don't want to leave the hotel. They do close at 9:00 p.m. as of this writing, and the hotel doesn't have any other grab-and-go kiosk, so be sure to get what you need before it gets too late. There was an array of Hot Selections (Bacon, Sausage, French Toast or Pancakes, Herbed Roasted Breakfast Potatoes, Scrambled Eggs, Steel Cut Oatmeal, Chef's Custom Selection Dim Sum), a Cold Selection section (Cold Mezza, Cheese Board & Deli Counter, Fresh Whole Fruit, Fresh Cut Fruit, Cereals and Cold Dairy Products) and baked items (Fresh Pastries and Breads, Assorted Gluten Free and Vegan Pastries and a Selection of Breads plus Condiments).
