Finally trying this place with my family after passing by for some time now and it was pretty disappointing. Everyone was very nice and our waitress was friendly and accommodating when I had a minor issue with my order. The big issue that we had was that there was a DEAD FLY in our maple syrup! Didn't notice until already putting syrup on our pancakes and taking a few bites. Once we notified our waitress she immediately took the bottle from us and took it to the back and "cleaned it with hot water" ... She then brought us new pancakes and hopefully a new bottle of syrup... Neither of us confrontational, we still winded up paying for our meal and left a tip. Due to the pandemic, I hadn't been to my favorite Long Beach diner in a while. As a low carber/ketoer, I missed their vegetable, meat and cheese heavy egg dishes and the options they have to replace the usual side of potatoes. Although they no longer have my old favorite, machaca and eggs, I found a new one: a roasted pasilla pepper stuffed with mozzarella cheese and covered in homemade salsa. Comes with two eggs and a side of refried beans. My husband was equally happy with his spinach, mushroom, olive and feta omelette. Not sure what the bad reviews are for, but I had a good experience here. The fisherman's breakfast (3 eggs, 4 meat aka bacon, potato and toast plus a drink) was exactly what I wanted. The bacon was perfectly cooked, crispy yet not burnt. Over easy eggs were sold outside with runny yolk insides, perfectly cooked. Such a fantastic location. Truly homely atmosphere with accommodating staff and a great comfort level. The pancakes are scrumptious and the eggs Benedict really fine as well. Missing a star only because: a) the coffee is very weak to my palate. I do realize many people might prefer this kind of coffee but unfortunately there's no other option for those like me that like a more full bodied taste. b) the breakfast potatoes are deep fried disks. Came here the other day for late lunch. Place closes at 2:00pm so just made it. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall feel to it. Sat down in a booth with a great view of the beach. Nice ocean breeze was coming through the window and it felt great. Tons of stuff on the menu for both breakfast and lunch. Ended up getting the fisherman's breakfast. GF got the banana pancakes/combo. Both were good and the prices are very fair. The coffee was delicious and probably one of the best I've had at a cafe. This place is delicious ! And the service is outstanding. Just a good old fashion breakfast joint. The wife had the Famous Weasel special (chili on top of scrambled eggs) she loved it! I had the fisherman breakfast also delicious ( ask for the salsa it's homemade and yummy! ) the servers were all very attentive and nice. It's dog friendly they offered to bring water for our dog. Granted, in the past 15 years I've been to so many restaurants so my taste bud may have changed. Nope. The potatoes tasted the same as how I remembered. Anyway - There's too many damn hipster-y for the gram restaurants. Chuck's isn't one of them. It's a place where you get breakfast, enjoy the scenery, and chit chat with your loved ones. I'm usually not one to leave bad reviews, but if I can save someone the time and money, then I'll do so. I had a terrible experience being served by Julia. Her demeanor was extremely rude and dismissive. I understand that we went during a busy rush, and normally I'm very patient, as I've worked in food service previously. The few times we asked to get an item substituted, or asked for additional items, Julia would obviously show her frustration, and would deny us even a simple substition request of getting 2 bacon and 2 sausage (normally 4 of either choice). What really shockingly disappointed me was that she rudely responded, "I'm not going to argue with you." There's a lot more that I cannot express into words and that will not be enough to leave in one review. But she definitely judged our table of simply "not wanting to pay" after we paid our bill and walked out the restaurant. Save your time and money people, the food isnt all that great either. read more

This is my favorite breakfast place (was tied with the Small Cafe til that changed hands and now they use plastic plates and have pancakes the size of English muffins - but I digress). The food has been super tasty for as long as I've been going - since 2005. The prices are so reasonable. You're right by the beach. Love the old diner feel with the counter and the booths. They only take cash but they do have an ATM. The waitstaff is always super friendly, patient (I'm a picky orderer), and fun. Some of same employees have been there for the last 14 years! More like 3.5 stars. Chuck's "Locally World Famous" Coffee Shop. This place has been around a long time, but it had been a long time since I paid a visit. We came in the day after Thanksgiving and was pleasantly surprised that there was no wait and we were seated right away. Service was quick, food came out in less than 10 minutes. Coffee was OK, nothing special there. I ordered the sausage scramble with jalapenos with the potatoes. For the most part, the food was good. The potatoes aren't exactly breakfast potatoes that you would expect but more like french fries with no flavor, so be prepared for that. I know some people get turned off by them. Like a lot of breakfast places around here, it is cash only with the only nearby ATM inside the restaurant itself. So bring cash if you don't want to pay an additional $5 in ATM and bank charges. read more

Based off of the food alone, I would've given this place a 3, but since it has such a local feel and the people that work there are so friendly I gave it a 4. Also, it's about a 5 minute walk from the beach! A friend from the area took me here for breakfast, and it was pretty busy for being a weekday. It seemed like most people were regulars, and one of the cooks and the owner Chuck came around to say hi to each table. Our waitresses (there were a couple helping us) were both nice and on top of it. I ordered the chilli cheese omelet with potatoes, which was ok. The menu said that it's a house specialty, so I expected more. I didn't really like the style of the potatoes at all, they reminded me of Ruffles chips because of the ridges. I would've liked hash browns more. I would definitely go back if I were in the area, but I would order something different. read more

Really great place near beach for lunch. Standard diner fare with all day breakfast. The weasel is their specialty: 3 eggs covered with chili cheese and onions. It's tasty and filling. Chuck's hash is similar with hamburger mushrooms and onions scrambled with eggs and covered with chili and cheese. It's wonderful. Chuck's is a great breakfast spot that is pretty popular among locals. It opens around 7am and closes around 2pm. When a spot closes in the early afternoon, you know that they make legit breakfast! I got the chorizo burrito special which comes with has potatoes, chorizo, and eggs inside and comes with salad and refried beans on the side. It was pretty tasty and a steal for $6.95, but I wish it came with some salsa, sour cream, avocado, or guacamole for some added flavor. So I need to take one star off for that. My friends got pancakes, which they said were tasty. They said that these pancakes weren't the best, but were satisfying. For 3 people, our total came out to $17. Such a bargain! P.S. The location: Neat place! Even though it was a hotter day, the ocean breeze cooled things off quite nicely, as they kept all the windows open. It probably really sucks on a super windy day, though. Great view of the park, which unfortunately blocks the ocean view. Unfortunately, there's only a single bathroom, which could be problematic if the Spanish omelet has a disagreement with your lower intestine. The food: I ordered the Chili Cheese 3 egg omelette, which was quite delicious. Still, I had to add Tabasco, but that's more my preference than anything else. The breakfast potatoes were fairly plain, but were different in that they looked like thick cut potato chips (Deep fried goodness!). The toast was okay; I am slowly starting to accept that I will never find a coffee shop that has actual sourdough. The coffee, however, was outstanding! Normally I have to at least add cream, but I could drink this stuff on its own with no issue. The service: On the whole, it was pretty good. My original waitress was very friendly and upbeat, and the food came out very quickly. Unfortunately, I had to ask for refills on my coffee every time. Even more unfortunate, I had to ask other staff to refill my coffee for me. Still, they were very prompt when I made my requests. First time here. I must have gotten there at a good time. Just a few people at the restaurant. More people trickled in later. I know it gets busy, I've driven past here and the wait line was literally out the door. So I knew I had to try this place during the week. It's got a very 50's diner feel. Windows everywhere, so no seat is bad. They also have outdoor seating for those beautiful Long Beach mornings. I was greeted as soon as I opened the door. Actually I got a smile from my server before I opened the glass door. Good sign, happy servers equal good service. She got me coffee right away.. The entire staff is genuinely kind and helpful. My coffee cup was never empty. Since it was my first time and the menu so vast it took me quiet a while to decide what to get. Everything on the menu is available during breakfast hours. I like that since I don't eat eggs. Talia (servers name, I think it's not right though) was patience with me. She kept checking to see if I was ready to order, not in a pushy manner either! I had a few questions about the menu which she was happy to answer. After deciding I wanted something not on the menu, but a combination of menu items. No problem with a custom menu item! I ordered a Macha Burrito with beans and cheese topped with Ranchero Sauce (mild). A side of their Chili. The burrito was huge!! It was stuffed with Macha Beef. The chili was good. I agree and disagree and agree to disagree with most of the other reviews for Chuck's. #1--Yelpers who said this place is more about character/ambience than food... you're absolutely correct. Chuck himself was chillin' at a nearby table when we walked up with the pooch. He chatted with us for a good while as we waited for an outdoor table to open up (weekends are super busy!). In the meantime, he made sure our thirsty pup got some fresh water. The food isn't bad; but you've definitely had better. #2-- i really don't understand how vegetarians can complain that there isn't a good selection available to them. wtf? this charming little coffee shop doesn't make any promises of the sort... #3-- (bonus) located right across the street from a friendly little dog beach Chuck's is uncomplicated and I appreciate that. read more

We went to Chuck recently, wanting to sit outside for breakfast. While we waited for a table, my wife walked past a table to check the wait list. A little dog jumped up and bit her, drawing blood from puncture wounds. I told the owner he should be careful bringing a dog like that out into public. 1 star for location. It's convenient if you're in walking distance and the beach is just a jump, skip and a hop away. 1 star for Outdoor seating. It isn't fancy but it gets the job done. I was greeted by a nice man, a girl came out and did ask me for my order but I wasn't ready, once I was ready someone else came out eventually, nbd, they did bring me water for my dog once I asked so that was nice. After I was done eating I had to wait a good 15mins to pay my tab. Maybe you're supposed to pay inside (I got tired of waiting and walked in to pay) idk, just felt service could have been better especially since I went at a time that wasn't busy. -1 for the FOOD, I think the menu needs to be looked over. Certain meals don't add up compared to other prices. I ordered the weasel, only because it's a "Belmont favorite" well definitely not my fav..
