Bomb birria in outer Richmond ? Yes please! Finally tried this place out after a few people recommendations. Ordered two carne asada taco, two birria taco and one quesabirria taco. Also came with a small side consome to dip the birria tacos with. Yum yum yum! Gotta get more of the quesabirria next time for that extra cheesy goodness. Birria Tacos! My hubby knew of this Mexican restaurant in the Outer Richmond area so he took me here for lunch and we ordered some birria tacos. Wasn't crowded and we were able to place our order immediately. They had limited indoor seating, we decided to dine in. We wanted to give their birria tacos a try. The stew's tender, juicy meat was delicious! The tacos were served with pickled onions, sliced radishes, chopped fresh cilantro, lime wedges and, of course, some consommé for delicious dipping. Once I dipped my taco in the consommé, oh man, I immediately felt a multi sensory gastronomic experience! LoL! I had just recently learned about birria and I couldn't get enough of it. The chorizo burrito i tried was $9.98 and it was on the greasy side for me. Like once i took some bites and wanted to save the rest to take home, the grease oozed through the paper bag on my ride home :( The service was nice and the salsa was good. I did try their birria in a burrito this time because I needed something the last me the whole day through OSL. Right across the street was Cielito and boy oh boy, I'm glad we went there! This is my new favorite spot in the avenues when the cravings hit. Stopped by at 6pm and split the Quesabirria plate which comes with 4 tacos and a large horchata. When we asked for a separate up, the cashier was super nice and even offered to give us a free cup of horchata instead of just splitting a large. We kindly declined but instead asked for a cup full of ice since it was super hot in SF that day. The queabirria plate with 4 tacos and was perfect for two of us. The consume was flavorful and amazing, not too "spice-y" and not too salty. I'm not a huge fan of the super herby/spicey consumes so this one was perfect for me. Hubs raved about the quesabirria tacos from here and wanted me to try them out. A plate comes with 4 tacos. Hubs said two tacos each were plenty. Cielito Lindo was great in that they split our order and placed them on separate plates - each with 2 tacos, consommé, salsa, lime, cucumbers and radish. I also ordered a Horchata and hubs ordered the Cafe Olla. Must say, the tacos were excellent. Crispy shells stuffed full of meat and stringy cheese. Eaten together with some salsa, lime, and consommé- sooo good! Consommé alone, however, was a bit too salty for me but hubs didn't think so AND 2 tacos for me were a good portion. We came here for brunch and it's easily one of my favorite Mexican places in San Francisco. The chilaquiles were the stand-out item. There was a good amount of heat and flavor in their tortillas, and it made for such a perfect bite...the tortillas, the rice, refried beans, egg and guacamole. Absolutely incredible flavors. The breakfast burritos were also fire. We got it with the chorizo and it was also fantastic when paired with their green salsa. It's on the oilier side but personally I didn't mind it, given the flavors came together so well. The Mexican coffee was also great (note that Mexican coffee tends to have sugar and spices e.g. cinnamon), so order it and don't expect an American cup of coffee. Solid spot and good food. I ordered the quesabirria which was good, but not really my thing lol. A bit too fried for me. It comes with four big tacos and it's loaded with meat. I ate one and I was pretty full. My boyfriend ate 2 and we brought the last taco home as leftovers. It was about $28 before tip for the quesabirria. My friend got the quesadilla and those were humongous and looked good. I'd try that next time I come back. The quesabirria was the best I have had in the Bay Area. The meat was tender, and the shell stayed crunchy even after dipping it in the consome. Service was decent; we just ordered and sat anywhere in the restaurant, and they brought it out to us. I went around 5:30pm, so it was pretty empty but it started filling up around 6. This place gets a lot of attention for it's Quesabirria - I would not be surprised if you've seen the images at some point on Yelp. I personally come for the Breakfast Burritos and occasionally the Pambazo Torta. The food is tasty and the portions are quite generous. I would be inclined to give this place a five star rating, but I will say that I think the prices are a bit steep ($25.99 for Four Quesabirria Tacos, pre-Tax/Tip), and I feel like 7:30pm is a bit early in terms of closing. But, overall I stop by at least once a month. If you have never had a Pambazo, it's worth a try especially if you are hungry. It is a torta with Beans, Potatoes, Chorizo, Lettuce, Tomato and Crema. It's on a Torta Roll and I'm pretty sure it's dipped in some kind of sauce before being grilled on the griddle. $11.99. Half would fill most people up. Oh yeah - Do not miss the Mild Green Salsa. I've never had quesabirrias until I came across this place and they did not disappoint! A relatively new business on the block. They seem to be thriving especially during the pandemic. The last time we came we had to wait nearly 30 mins for our food. The person in front of us ordered 50 quesabirrias! Hopefully for a socially distanced party? The quesabirrias are by far the best item on the menu. Very meaty and juicy. You can order individually or an entire plate that comes with four quesabirrias. They are quite filling. I recommend splitting the plate with a friend so you can try out more items! I've also had the torta which was very flavorful but a bit too heavy for me but possibly because I already had eaten two quesabirrias. Make sure to come here hungry! You'll be satisfied. One less star because of the wait time. I don't think they've figured out a good balance for managing orders. I will caveat that I've been coming on the weekends so it's usually more crowded then. However each time I've come there's been some issues with running out of meat extending the wait times until they can cook up another batch. It is truly great to see businesses booming during this difficult time. They have been open for about 3 months. I wasn't planning on hitting up this place but after our walk, the right thing to do was to refuel so I Yelped and saw this place in the vicinity. Granted, Gavin and I had Mexican for lunch and dinner yesterday but we can eat Mexican cuisine everyday so Gavin approved as soon as I told him about it. We found parking right across the street. I can't remember the last time anything parking-related was easy in the city. I am not complaining but I was sad because everything feels emptier because of these restrictions. When I walked inside,I was behind one gentleman so I knew the wait wouldn't be terribly long but beware because a line formed 10 min. after I placed my order. You can call to place your order ahead of time to cut your wait time. + pambazo + plate of quesabirria (comes w/ 4 and consume) + ham and egg breakfast burrito w/o salsa (you can get it w/ mild or hot salsa) The wait was about 12-15 minutes but definitely worth it. I paid and tipped 30% using their tablet for easy tipping needs (just select any option: no tip, 10%, 15%, 20%, etc.). I really admire businesses doing what they can to stay afloat and for this little gem, what they're doing is offering a selected number of items that are not just made fresh but made by the people that seemed to love and enjoy what they do. As I was waiting, the super nice woman behind the counter gave us horchata infused w/ coffee.. champurrado for Gavin. It was an incredibly sweet gesture that I wasn't expecting. Even the folks making the food were super friendly and kind... all smiled and greeted us as we were waiting. After we got our order, we walked to the car and unwrapped it from the hood of my car. We saw that his burrito was missing. I was going to send Gavin back in but the nice woman behind the counter walked across the street w/ it and w/ a sincere smile on her face. We both thanked her and then I had to snap a few pictures hurriedly so we can devour our meal. The quesabirria tacos is the best I've had. The tortilla was fried perfectly even though it was submerged in the consume. Each bite had a crunch filled w/ tender and flavorful birria. I loved the fresh onions and cilantro. The pambazo is something I've never had before. Never heard of it. It is fried bread w/ mashed potatoes, chorizo, queso fresco, lettuce, and their special hot sauce (wasn't spicy to me) but oh my god, it was delicious and very filing. I only ate half so I can enjoy the other half as soon as I'm done writing this review! Gavin enjoyed his breakfast burrito and 1 quesabirria taco as well. So glad we were in the area to try. After working all 7 days this past week, I opted to let my colleague take today (holiday pay) instead of me (we take turns covering the holidays as we are a 24/7 team globally). Anyway. Came back on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm to get takeout. There was a line and quite a bit of people lining up even after I left. Took maybe 30min to order and get the food. Got the quesabirria set and two regular birria tacos. The birria tacos are flavorful, but they are kind of dry after a few mouthfuls. Pickled onions that came with it were great though and helped to cut the dryness. The tacos were stuffed with meat. Quesabirria tacos were okay. They were a bit salty, but the broth was bland, so they worked together. I wished the cheese was more spread out because it was all on the bottom. Service and ambiance: low. Food: OK. We approached the counter near the cashier. He was handling orders "to go", and completely ignored us for several minutes. Not even a nod, or an "I'll be with you in a moment". We ordered, and he didn't ask "for here?". We found one clean table and sat there. Another table was empty but completely filthy with food scraps. It remained that way for the duration of our visit. When the food was ready, it was all packed "to go", including a plastic bag, and way too many plastic utensils. We usually avoid single-use plastic! The utensils were horrible quality: so flimsy that I would not use them. We found some real silverware hidden away in the back. They apparently have real plates, because we saw another party with real plates. The food was just OK. Nothing special. I will never go back after this kind of service. The feel of the place was pretty bad, too. The menu on the wall had notes taped all over it. The place was a mess. read more
