I'm not sure that dell'anima has what it takes to survive on Cornelia Street. They do have a good amount of business but their food quality and service aren't up to par. I got the spaghetti de nero and it was fine - the shrimps were a little mushy and there could've been more flavor. I did like the pancetta bits in it though. We also had a bit of a miscommunication (the server thought I'd ordered two things when I was deciding between them and only wanted one) and did act a little annoyed / blamed me for the mishap. And they also weren't that knowledgeable about the menu. They said that it was couscous under the octopus but it was actually rice beans and they also didn't know what rice beans were.
[[HIGHLIGHT]]exceptional! we were wow'd! straight upon entering you feel how intimate of a place is. its a perfect evening dining spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] for appetizers we got the the arancini and ricotta toast. so impressed with the freshness of the ricotta and char of the bread. you cannot leave this place without trying the pasta. the bolognese was the star of the show - will be coming back exclusively for that dish! a nice little sweet treat of tiramisu to finish off the meal. greta food on top of quality service. highly recommend!
This place is a no. Don't do it. Our server was nice enough but the food was very no frills and less than ok. And the pricing wasn't cheap. My cacio e pepe was very mediocre. Actually less than mediocre. The pasta was hard and gummy. I could barely eat it, however I was on a 1st date (can't believe she picked this place) and I was starving. We also barely had time to eat before catching a show so we just ate our food. Don't go.
If you're a pasta lover, don't miss the chance to visit @gwmarket and try @dellanima + Their TAJARIN ALLA CARBONARA features a creamy sauce of raw beaten eggs, peppery, salty, and incredibly rich flavors! + The SPAGHETTI offers a rich umami taste with shrimp and chorizo, and the texture of the spaghetti is simply delightful. It's a hidden gem in Gotham West Market. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and can't wait to return!
Excellent experience. Super friendly staff, host, bar tender, all the servers are polite and respectful. Their wine list is just right. Prices are good. - a little high - but for the block worth it. Get the endive salad and the pork chop! Not a memorable meal but maybe it's because I didn't sit at the bar. Because of that I didn't really get to experience the service or ambiance. The pasta itself wasn't the tastiest I've had in the city but out of the other food options in this food hall I picked it because it looked the best.
I had a fabulous lunch here yesterday! My dad and I decided to go to a place in Gotham West Market and I'm so glad we chose dell'anima. We ate at the counter and received incredible service. The food was so fresh. I had a glass of prosecco, avocado bruschetta (their version of avocado toast), and we split to arancini. Everything was delicious! The avocado toast had great flavor and the bread it was on was the icing on the cake. The risotto balls were spectacular! The tomato dipping sauce was so fresh and I loved the cheese in the middle of the arancini. I could have eaten the whole order by myself... they were THAT good! I can't wait to come back! It's a fun place to sit at the bar and they do takeout/delivery. I'm looking forward to trying the pasta next time!
Didn't realize this was part of the foot court, and it was pretty empty when my friend and I walked in. The "bar" seats are pretty close to the kitchen and it actually got pretty how while we were sitting there, as they were cooking right in front of us. Service was great, and they actually gave us extra blueberry jam(?) and bread when we ran out while having our appetizer. The pastas were okay; they used a lot of pepper in both.. My friend and I felt like it mostly tasted like pepper than the other sauces/seasoning they used ): Pretty affordable for New York and would be good for a last minute, casual meal with friends!
Loyal customer and I truly love their pasta. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The new location is even better (back to the west village).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The chicken is to die for like always. Unfortunately, pasta portions appeared smaller and overall every item was pricey. Will definitely return because the food is yummy but limited to special occasions only.
What just happened???!!! We were incredibly impressed by the service and the food, the food.... IMPECCABLY prepared, seasoned, served. Andrew was soooo friendly and I can't say enough kind words about the flavors, service, and the food. We reserved a late dinner at 8:30 on a Saturday night. Thankfully it was not super crowded. I will definitely recommend this to friends anytime!!! We were a party of 5 and we ordered some things to share. The chicken diavolo was one of our FAVORITE dishes. Don't underestimate the chicken!!!! It's soooo delicious, juicy, and the crispy skin and the secret rub. We are literally in food euphoria. Some other favorites were the bucatini arrabiata, just the right amount of spice! Brussel sprouts honestly were amazing. I will return upon coming back to NYC!!!!!

This place is at a market, not a real closed off restaurant. That being said the food was fantastic. Never tried Bone Marrow but it was very good. The carbonara and pork chop were to die for. If you go here get the pork chop. It's , borderline perfection. read more

Torn - the pasta itself tasted homemade and quite good, but the flavors were way way too peppery for me, and I've never had that complaints. Had the cacio e Pepe, and a pasta with mushrooms. I'd definitely try dell'anima again and would ask for dishes with very little pepper! Ordered delivery, and had no complaints about the delivery process snd food packaging. read more

Been on a bit of an Italian food (specifically pasta) spree lately. dell'anima impressed me with its very high quality food; I also loved the ambiance and open kitchen concept. I had the brussel sprouts and bolognese. The brussel sprouts were quite literally the best CRISPY brussel sprouts I've ever had, and this is a must-try if you come here. The crispy brussell sprouts with the crunchy pepitas are the perfect side to any of the comforting pastas. The bolognese was also very good, maybe could've used a pinch of salt, but the pasta was perfectly al dente, and bolognese sauce still had lots of flavor. Highly recommended and a great addition to Gotham West Market. read more
This Italian counter culture themed restaurant is amazing!!! I love being able to sit at the counter and watch my food being made while interacting with the chef it brings a different feeling to the experience. Came out for a family dinner last night. It was our first time at Gotham West Market but I don't think it will be our last. The food was delicious, and my husband was impressed by the frosted glass they brought him for his beer. We shared the burrata and arugula salad. I ordered the carbonara, my husband the orecchiette with wild boar sausage, his aunt the short rib rage, and my mother in law the branzino. Everything was beautifully prepared and delicious. We ended the Lea with tiramisu. read more

Why there isn't a line outside the door and around the block for this place defies comprehension. Superb on all levels: the wines by the glass, the three apps we had - burrata, ricotta crostini with pine nuts, and a haunch of bone marrow so substantial, rich and delicious it could feed me for a week - plus the orrechiete with wild boar and risotto with spicy sopressata. Capped by a textbook perfect tiramisu. The small staff couldn't have been friendlier, and miracle of miracles the joint is not DEAFENING. The walk from the theatre district pre-show is well worth it, as the quality is miles above more conveniently located restaurants. This is now hands down my go to pre or post eaterie. read more
Dining out during covid times may seem weird, like life is these days. Went to the Gotham West Market and ordered from Dell'anima. The entire block has the parking lane set up with tables for outdoor dining. It took awhile to get the attention of staff to ask about how to order. We were told told find a table and someone would come help us. No one came to our table. After ~15 min we checked the menu online and I went back to the window to order. It was a rough start but by the time we were able to order and the food came out, then everything was upwards from there. We had table service and the food, especially the pastas, were excellent. I was very pleased and impressed with the taste and quality; and am curious what the regular menu looks like. I hope to visit the restaurant again when things are back to normal. read more

Make your reservations and go! Everything was so outstandingly delicious and we loved being able to watch the chef/owner create our dishes and listen to his conversations Yes, I saw other reviews comment that the tagliolini was too peppery but *ahem* it's cacio e Pepe. It's perfectly peppery. PERFECT I SAY! Don't change it please. Hubby ordered the bolognese and that was incredibly delicious as well. The charred octopus: so tender and the rice beans were interesting, never had them before. The little chorizo slivers heightened the flavor and I think there was a squeeze of lemon in there that brought everything together. So good. Go! Now! read more

Wasn't terribly impressed, but had a tasty meal here overall. My boyfriend and I got a walk-in on a weeknight and sat outside, which was very pleasant. We started with the charred octopus, which was fine, then the bone marrow. I liked the bone marrow but felt the portion could have been a little bigger, since they mix it with other stuff. For entrees, we shared the bolognese, the carbonara and a side of cauliflower. The carbonara and cauliflower were great, but for all of the hype, I actually found the tagliatelle Bolognese to be a bit bland. Almond cake for dessert was decent. 3.5 stars because I expected to be wowed by the pastas, but alas. L'artusi, their sister restaurant, does it better, and at around the same price point. read more

We walked right over to next door to the restaurant called dell'anima. Even though this restaurant doesn't open until 1730, it was already packed at opening hour! Luckily for me, we were seated right next to open kitchen so I got a cooking show of my very own to enjoy! I got to watch them make all their dishes and observe the interactions of all the chefs working together. It was a very interesting dynamic to study; they are constantly shouting out orders, cooking, cleaning, cutting, etc. dell'anima is known for their variety of homemade spreads in the appetizer rounds. They bake delicious, fresh bread for you to enjoy whatever spread you want with them. The brilliance of this is that there is a constant supply of fresh, warm bread until you finish your spreads! -roasted red pepper (with smoked marcona almonds and pecorino romano) -lily confit (with shallots and garlic) -cannelloni (with preserved lemon and aleppo). The roasted red pepper and cannelloni was very creamy and easy to spread. lily confit had that strong garlic taste and aftertaste that only garlic lovers can handle. Bread had crispy, toasty edges and a soft center. -bone marrow served with testa, charred cippolini and pickled red onions. This picture does not portray how big the bone marrow was. It was enough for 3 of us! The bone marrow was so soft, tender, and fatty. You can see the savory fats as you scoop from the bone marrow and plated it onto the crispy little bread toasts. -braised short ribs with crispy potatoes, malt vinegar, and chocolate sour sugo. The texture of the short ribs were cooked perfectly; very tender and flaky. It was so easy to slice apart pieces of the "hair-y" strings of the meat. The taste of the short ribs were more mild than expected (given the sauce it was topped off); however, I really liked the taste of the braised short ribs too -fried gnocchi served with rabbit, pancetta, mushrooms, and pecorino romano. Let me tell you already that this is my favorite pasta dish here. It is delicious! The gnocchi was stuffed with soft potatoes, and given that it is fried, was slightly crispy and crunchy to chew on. It was very fun to eat! They were generous with the rabbit meat! -Tajarin alla carbonara served with speck, egg, black pepper, scallions, and pecorino romano. The egg was cooked at.. I forgot what degrees of temperature, but when I broke the egg yolk, it was kind of hard to break!! The yolk would not give Pros: -delicious, delicious, freshly cooked food -open, small kitchen so you can watch the chefs dance around, cooking the many ordered food dishes -lively yet classy ambience -plenty of small party seating area -restroom is one floor below; one restroom shared; very clean and neat -unlimited bread until you finish your spreads! Cons: -the ambience is on the darker side so it's harder to see the food, but delicious nontheless Tip: Make reservations if you know you want to eat here ahead of time; it gets packed quick and right when dinner time opens! read more

If you're ever in Hell's Kitchen, you need to stop here. If not, you need to go to Hell's Kitchen. Right now, they're gradually allowing customers to eat inside with reservations and temperature scans. However, the Gotham West Market (where they're located) has nice, airy outdoor eating areas. When it comes to the food, it's delicious. We got the bucatini alla arrabiata and the tagliolini Cacio e Pepe. Both were absolutely delightful. Beyond that, we also got the charred cauliflower and Brussels sprouts sides. The cauli was good, without a doubt. But those sprouts were quite possibly the best Brussels sprouts I have literally ever tasted. They've got cranberries and garlic and they're just amazing. A must try! read more

Big fan of this place. Being a Hells Kitchen local, and being able to walk over to here for dinner - when the area really lacks local dining options - is truly appreciated by a foodie like me. Dell'anima is basically a kitchen counter no frills pasta and wine style Italian restaurant. You can tell the chefs and servers enjoy their job, I've seen some sneak a drink and cheers each other under the counter during a weekend night - which to me means they're having fun and enjoying the vibe just like the patrons. The pasta dishes here are great. And it's no BS, you sit, you eat, you have a glass or two of wine. None of the unnecessary extras like complicated seated and coat check. Sit eat and leave. To me it's a great date spot. And true locals and Manhattan foodies know this spot. A+++ Thank you !! read more

This restaurant is spectacular. It is unassuming by appearance but don't let that fool you. The flavors are spectacular. We got the Burrata and I ordered the Carbonara. The Burrata was absolutely delicious. I wish other places served their Burrata on pesto. The Carbonara is made with fresh pasta and it's absolutely delicious. I think this might be one of the best carbonara dishes I have ever had. read more
Had my doubts about this place, but in the end it was just as good as L'artusi, and also may be one of the most underrated Italian restaurants in New York. We came here on a Thursday night, with a reservation at 6:15pm. The restaurant was about half full at this time, and when we got in, the staff checked my bag and coat. We were seated right away, and space between tables is definitely tight. The space is nowhere near as nice as L'artusi, and the service is nice, but nowhere near as detailed or attentive. That being said, the food is just as excellent. We'd heard good things about the bone marrow, so we ordered that, and two pastas for our main dishes. The wait time for our food here was about the standard for most New York restaurants. The bone marrow was served with crostini on the side, and had some sort of vegetables along with it. It was rich, creamy and delicious. The pasta entrees were served before we had done with the appetizer. They were not overly large, and people who have bigger appetites might do well to order an appetizer for themselves, a pasta entree and a side dish. Regardless of size, the pastas were superb, no worse than quality at L'artusi. As the easier to get a reservation at restaurant, it's a shame this place is closing. read more

First visit, we got: - Roasted red pepper bruschetta - Charred octopus - Garganelli - Carbonara The pastas were very good -- we both preferred my wife's carbonara, but we liked both. I think I would try the arrabbiata or the ragu next time. The bruschetta was fine, but I wasn't as crazy about the red pepper spread as I thought I'd be. The real star of the night was the octopus, which was incredible -- the lemon-like flavor in the sauce was just perfect, as was the octupus itself. Can't recommend this enough. Overall, solid first visit -- we weren't blown away, but we really enjoyed it and would definitely go back. read more

Located in Gotham Market, this place is terrible. I would never come back. As a vegetarian there are only about 3 pasta options so I ordered the bucatini alla arrabiata and it was dry and bitter with so much pecorino. Not the mention the portion size was less than half a container. There was also no sign of Calabrian chilies, it barely had any flavor. read more
Overall; great service, atmosphere and food quality. Went here with a few friends for a Sunday brunch. Everything was delicious and service was attentive and offered great suggestions. However.... I can't give it 5 stars as the menu item of "Pumpkin Muffins" was only one muffin on a large plate, see my attached picture. Apparently, the "Muffins" and "Scones", both are plural on the menu, but only one is delivered for $4. Seriously, $4 for one muffin? It was tasty, but most likely cost around $.50 to make, they should offer at least 2 and still make $3 profit! It's a false menu item, not merely a typo. Owners, double the muffins on the plate or remove the "s" and reduce the price. It's just a muffin, right? So why rile up your customers? Everything else was great, but when speaking to friends, guess what I mention most about your restaurant? The one muffin on a large plate for $4. read more

Our dinner at dell'anima exceeded expectations. Really enjoyed the meal and experience. Sitting at the chefs table and watching the food being prepared was really fun. Also led to a bit of FOMO after we placed our order but will just need to visit again. We started with the Arancini and Bone marrow. Then had 2 of the pastas - bucatini and trofie. And finished with the chicken. Everything was great from start to finish. Can't wait to visit again! read more

This review is only for their brunch. Our first disappointing meal in nyc. The parfait was served in a thick glass which probably has 3 bites of yogurt. It was topped with way too much granola. It was impossible to eat the thing without making a mess. We dumped all the granola on a plate to get to the fruit. The bacon was way to fatty, 90% fat. The potato hash was fried mashed potatoes, an average diner in the Midwest quality. The polenta was good, creamy not too salty. Overall, we will not return nor recommend it to anyone. read more

Stopped by for something quick and delicious after arriving from LA. Ambiance was soothing, bartender Danny was so informative and made everything very comfortable. Octopus dish was amazing. Never had anything that tender and it had just the right amount of crisp. Everything in the dish complimented each other. Carbonara was amazing too. Food was great but best of all was the staff. I went here for a late lunch with one of my clients after leaving the NYIAS. I must say that the chicken panini there was literally the best panini I EVER HAD in my life. It was the Pollo Diavolo and it blew my mind. The fried chickpeas appetizer was delightful as well. The service was top notch and i always make sure to give service the kudos they deserve.I am going to return and try the Charred Octopus. I saw someone next to us get it and it's been in my dreams. read more
