My favorite hot dog place in LA area. I'm extremely disappointed that they got rid of the sauce bar that they used to have. I used to combine all kinds of stuff to dip my fries or tater tots in. All of their hot dogs are served in a Hawaiian bread bun, which is honestly game changing. It adds such a great, different flavor to your standard hot dog. I'd recommend trying one of their specialty hot dogs, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. My personal favorite is the Fonz. The mozzarella cheese and pastrami flow extremely well with the spicy Italian sausage. I like tater tots more than fries, so I usually order those when I go. read more

I've been to Dog Haus Biergarten a few times in Old Town and have enjoyed their sliders, tots and beer, so I thought I'd give Dog Haus a shot for lunch. It was a mistake on my part ordering the exact same thing minus that one important item called beer. Beer definitely would have made this meal better, especially with greasy burgers and tater tots. Evidently beer is not part of the equation here, hence the name. Actually, come to think of it, the sliders were different. They had way too much mayo and grilled onions. That cheese didn't look like American cheese either. If it ain't broke don't fix it, so if you want a beer with your burger, dog or tater tots just go to Old Town and visit the other one. read more

I'm going to keep this update short and simple. The wife purchased the Dog Haus Groupon, you know the $10 deal where you get two hot dogs, two sides, and two drinks. So we headed over to the Dog Haus as a reward for cleaning the house as well as me fixing the sprinklers and kitchen sink this past weekend. The wife ordered the B.L.A.S.T. and I ordered the Downtown Dog. The B.L.A.S.T., consisting of smoked bacon, lettuce, avocado, serrano chilis, sliced tomato, and mayo wrapped around Hawaiian bread that was really good based on the small bite my wife allowed me to take. However, I still didn't like the Hawaiian bread bun because with all the aforementioned toppings, the hot dog became really soggy and stuck to the roof of my mouth. As for my Downtown Dog, which consisted of a haus dog wrapped in smoked bacon with mayo, mustard, ketchup, sautéed onions and peppers, I substituted the Hawaiian bun for the French roll, which kept my hot dog from falling apart. Sadly, this hot dog tasted nothing like the bacon-wrapped hot dogs that are sold on the streets. Maybe it had to do with the use of smoked bacon or the fact that exhaust fumes from passing cars were not added. All I know is that I will never order this hot dog again from Dog Haus. As for the sides, we ordered fries because I didn't really like the tater tots the last time I was here. All I know is that the fries were really dry and tasted baked rather than fried. We ended up throwing them away. Meh. We will be back again because my wife has an extra Groupon. Hopefully, the next time we go the cashier doesn't charge us for tax on the fucking Groupon like he did yesterday. I should have bitched, but the line was too long. Next time, I won't be so nice Mr. Bearded-Bespectacled-Manager. Thought about substracting a Star for taxing us despite our Groupon and because the fries were awful. What can I say? I like dogs and I don't mind spending time in the dog haus! Especially one with such tasty dogs. Vegetarian friendly options and King's Hawaiian Rolls as buns make me a fan of this Haus. Avocado and other yummy toppings (as well as lots of free topping options) make me an even bigger fan. The Sooo Cali is my go-to dog (mixed greens, diced tomato, tempura fried onions, spicy basil aioli, avocado, king's hawaiian bread), and it's so big that I have to eat it with a fork and knife. Great big onion rings, tater tots and sweet potato fries...even better! Not a healthy meal by any means, but a tasty indulgence. Free parking and a clean bathroom make this casual spot a good option if I am craving a veggie dog. read more

The distance is so far from where I live...but then, that might be a good thing since I would gorge myself on their tater tots here. I know they're just tater tots, but those little crispy nuggets of damn yummy-ness gets to me. Plus, their Sooo Cali hot dog is delicious as well. With diced tomato, tempura fried onions, spicy basil aioli, avocado, and mixed greens, not your typical toppings but damn yummy. The toasted hawaiian bread that they use as the bun gives some sweetness when you bite into it. Place can get packed, I usually have to share tables when I eat here during lunch time. BBQ, tapatio, curry ketchup, several kinds of mustard, dill pickles, celery salt, garlic salt, etc. Their condiment bar is stocked with plenty of free toppings if you want to add more. $0.75 charge for smoked bacon, spicy basil aioli if you want more. read more

"The Cowboy" was easily the best hot dog that I've had in LA and maybe...ever! The large, juicy hot dog was generously accompanied by white american cheese, smoked bacon, onion rings, crispy onions and barbecue sauce. It seems simple, and it was, but it worked perfectly together. All of this was sitting between three Hawaiian rolls, which served as the bun. I gravitate toward sweetness so the sweetness of the bread, with the sweetness of the barbecue sauce and the sweet onion rings was such a wonderful combination with the beef and cheese. The onion straws added a little crunchiness and flavor. The dog was substantial enough to serve as a great meal alone. Next time, I'll try the burger sliders and tots. Unfortunately, they no longer serve the sweet potato tots but there are enough other items on the menu to try. The restaurant is very casual with several benches inside, a few tables outside and a "sauce bar" where you can add extra toppings to your hot dog or burger. read more

I headed up to Dog Haus to have dinner before a movie at the park. Turns out the movie was cancelled due to the crazy rain, but that didn't stop our stomachs. We ordered the little mule, a corndog, and some tots. The little mule hit the spot. The buns were a square of 4 King's Hawaiian sweet rolls. I've been a fan of their sweet rolls all my life, so I loved it. There was egg, avocado, white American cheese, tomatillo sauce, and cilantro aioli. It was very good, but very heavy. The corndog was pretty good. The coating was on the softer side, but had good flavor. I prefer a harder shell like they have at Disneyland. The dog was fine too. I loved the tots the best. Golden brown and crisp on the outside. Next time I'll get some sausages. Solid 4 stars. read more

I'm not really a fan of Dog Haus's vibe. Something about is a little too 90's and a little too reminiscent of the now defunct clothing company Big Dog, and that atrocious song, "Who Let the Dogs Out?" It is fitting that their hot dog menu matches this 90's vibe. Dog Haus does fairly classic hot dogs. The primary toppings are cheese, onion rings, chili, and bacon. I went out of my way to find the girl one, with arugula, diced tomato, and a spicy basil aioli. It was a pretty complimentary pairing with spiciness from both the arugula and the aioli and a number of fresh ingredients. I could have done without the King's Hawaiian rolls. It was too sweet and soaked up too much grease when toasted. John ordered the bratwurst with grilled onions and hot peppers, also served on King's Hawaiian rolls. It was very ordinary, just like the onion rings (but a large portion, yes!). I liked the variety of condiments but the curry ketchup was far less impressive than Golden State's. Maybe the curry flavor was not pronounced enough or Golden State just uses a better curry powder. I also despise the overuse of the King's Hawaiian sweet rolls. It's not actually well suited to sliders or hot dogs so this is just kind of gimmicky. read more

Been wanting to try this place for awhile, and today was that DAY! Coming from the 210 fwy, I totally missed this place. The parking lot is on Walnut, so if you're coming from the 210 make sure you make a right on Walnut. Got there a lil after 12pm and there were quite a few people there. Ordered my Grand Slam dog and a drink - comes out to be about $9. Found a tabe at the rear of the restaurant - waited like 10 mins (which was reasonable considering the amount of customers there). Got my food and it looked delish. Took a bite and it was just awesome. Bacon, tater tots, egg and Kings Hawaiian rolls what more can you ask for? Food is great! Be forewarned that once you pick up your monster of a hot dog or burger, don't put it down unless you want your ingredients to fall apart. Let me start by saying Dog Haus was so much better when they opened originally and the concept was more normal to Hot Dogs/Bratwurst, etc. The new choices are all on Hawaiian Sweet Rolls which are great but not what I want my dog or Bratwurst on. My main reason for mainly coming here is TATER TOTS!!!!! so good. It's seem to be every time I come here there's always a line, so if your with a group, send someone to save a table. Our trusty friend Yelp took us to Dog Haus, so we parked our car in the garage located behind the shop and hopped out to see what delicious franks awaited us. The menu is extensive; I never knew hot dogs and sausages could be made in so many different ways! After scrutinizing the menu and debating about what to order for a good five minutes, we finally decided upon a Sooo Cali dog and a Bad Mutha Clucka sausage. Between the two, I have to say that the Sooo Cali is my favorite. A plump, juicy hot dog smothered with avocado, arugula, spicy basil aioli, crispy onions, tomatoes... it was hot dog heaven. First, the young guy working the counter was really friendly and helpful. Excellent service. Overall, it was fun to try Dog Haus, but I'm not sure how often I'd eat here. I've concluded that I can only go back with someone who wants to split an order, since I had to throw away half of my food as it would not all fit in my stomach. Also, no Hawaiian bread for me next time. I find this bread much too soft and mushy, especially when you add grilled onions and peppers. The onion rings are heavily fried and served in a large portion. This must be great for a lumberjack on his lunch break. Anyways we ordered during happy hour (awesome deals): the sooo veggie, impossible slider, a side of tots and my boyfriend got a beer. Everything got us so full and we had to save some of the food for later. Definitely worth the price because I didn't eat for the rest of the day because it was so fulfilling, gosh. The hot dog was delicious BUT to make the 'sooo veggie' - vegan you must switch out the Hawaiian bread for a French roll :( (I miss Hawaiian bread) and I loved the spicy basil aioli (vegan as well), went really well with the crispy onions and avocado. Location is on the corner of Hill and Union. I thought the place looked great from the outside. Inside is nice too, but a bit dirty from what I'm used to. I came in the afternoon and there were a few people on their laptops (not surprising since it is walking distance from PCC). I thought it was pretty close to Pink's level (another hot dog joint in Los Angeles). Dog Haus have hot dogs, sausages, burgers, and sides while Pink's serve the same but way unhealthier. There are a decent amount of options to choose from and you can even make your own! I ordered an Old Town Dog and a side of tator tots. As others said before, the tots are a must. So greasy but so good! The bun was amazing! It was sweet but it fell apart easily. The dog was bacon wrapped and juicy, just how I like them. The sauce made it though. Pretty unhealthy meal, but what do you expect from this type of place? I would come again! Good food that didn't make me feel sluggish or bad afterwards. These folks are legends. Love the vibe, love the burgers, tots, and fries, and the service is so on point. Really considerate and accommodating - one of my favorite spots for a casual date night. Pro-tip: if you're going for a night out for two, probably best to split a double burger (any kind), tots, and fries. Unless you just hiked a mountain or ran a marathon, that should be more than enough. My date and I came hungry, but soon realized we underestimated the portion size. We championed through it, but we definitely could've been satisfied with splitting the double burgers rather than getting our own. Not a negative by any means, by the way. There are also sides offers, such as fries/tator tots, chili, cheese, etc. I ordered the Old Town Dog (smoked bacon wrapped 100% all beef dog, caramelized onions, roasted jalapeños, chipotle aioli, cotija cheese) and a side of chili cheese fries. The Old Town Dog came on toasted Hawaiian rolls, which really made the hot dog taste a lot better. The hot dog tasted like how it was described, nothing special in my opinion besides the bread. The chili cheese fries tasted like normal chili cheese fries but cost me $5 (too expensive!).
