Earls Kitchen and Bar is a chain with many locations throughout the US. Earls reminds me of Doc Bs here in Austin regarding elevated service, menu options, and cocktails. We stopped by for an early dinner and again for their happy hour. The HH is awesome with some great Apps and drink deals. Their sticky ribs are an easy 5-star experience. They were moist, fall-off-the-bone tender, with a bit of heat. Our martinis were perfect, and during HH ( our second visit), our margaritas were excellent. Service at the bar was on point, and everyone provided great guidance regarding their specials. They recommend reservations, but we had no issues finding seats at the bar, and there were a few available tables. Sports fan? Big screen TVs are positioned around the bar. Earls is one of those spots you go to more for the vibe then the food. The ambiance is super lively, and it strikes a balance between beachy and modern, almost club-like. Crispy Tuna Rice: 5/10 - Quality and Flavour was there but the portion of Tuna was really small. Rice wasn't that crispy either. Steak: 3/10 - Don't recall which steak I got but this was a big letdown. I almost never send dishes back but I did in this case. Ordered the steak medium rare but it came out well done. Not a huge deal but the quality of the meat just wasn't there. Fries were pretty bland as well and the salad was a letdown. Truffle Tortellini: 8/10 - Truffle flavourful really came through and was well balanced by all the other elements on the dish. Pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauce was rich, and there was a good amount of veggies sprinkled in. Honestly, my favourite dish of the night was actually the clase Azul cocktail. Super stiff but well-balanced and smooth. Came here for happy hour after seeing all the great reviews, and it didn't disappoint. I came with a friend and made a reservation for the lounge since happy hour seating is limited to the bar or lounge--definitely recommend doing this because it gets busy. Even with the crowd, service was fast and our server was attentive. Ordered margaritas and really enjoyed them. I usually don't like the strong triple sec taste, but these were smooth and well balanced. I made mine a double and it was perfect. For food, I had the Petite Steak Frites and a Fish Taco. The steak was lean but cooked perfectly medium rare, just how I asked. The fish taco had great flavor and tasty garnishes. Both dishes were solid. Overall, a great experience and a fun time. A great big area with a nice presentation, massive bar, great touches., to greet you upon entering. Great Korean style food options with awesome flavors mixed in with some random other options. I made a reservation for a Sunday night during happy hour. I'm glad I read the reviews before about letting them know you're there for happy hour. It's only in a specific part of the restaurant. We were given complimentary chips and salsa that I think is only given during happy hour. The chips were a little too salty. My mom and I shared the delicious truffle fries. I had a double guava crush cocktail for $10 (I think $1.50 extra for the double). I got the crispy rice sushi and my mom got 2 fish tacos. Everything was delicious! Happy hour prices are good. We were a little hesitant to try this place at first because the photos people posted of the food didn't really grab our attention, but I'm glad we ended up dining here. My friends and I ordered a variety of plates to share, and surprisingly, we enjoyed everything we tried. My favorites were definitely the guacamole and elote dip and the pork chop. The dip was a great appetizer to snack on, and the pork chop was flavorful and not dry at all. We also ordered Midori sours, but they didn't come with cocktail cherries, so we asked for some. They ended up bringing us cherries that had been soaked in alcohol, which we weren't impressed with. The fans inside were extremely strong, though. It got pretty cold, and the air was even drying out my friend's contact lenses. I understand it would probably get warm without them, but lowering the fan speed a bit would've been nice. Fish tacos, steak fritte, seafood platter, shrimp and chicken dumplings, corn salsa and chips, birria tacos, etc. I had the steak fritte and for $17 it was a delicious. Meat was cooked perfectly. It was only 4oz but tasted so good with their truffle french fries. Highly recommend this dish. For desserts, we split a few of their items. We had the chocolate lava cake, hot, sticky pudding cake in the coconut cream pie. The coconut cream pie was my favorite. Overall it was a great dining experience. Ceiling fans were on high but on a humid day it's a bit uncomfortable. Escalator wasn't working. Server did not ask about allergies but other than that service was great and quick. How'd I End Up Here? Walking Kalākaua it is inevitable to be drawn in. I'd walked past and it took only 4 days till I could stand it no more. Day 5 I told my wife "I'm taking you to Earls." She replied, "what's Earls?" I said, "I don't know, I've just walked by it every day since last Thursday, so we're about to go and find out" We made no reservation, walked faithfully from our hotel. We were greeted by two young ladies at ground level, we said "2 for the bar." After a tap on her screen and viewing the que. "20 minute wait for a table of two." She said. We accepted table wait list but also rolled the dice at walking the bar in search of a couple vacant seats. Ambiance? 5/5 The dining area is massive. Every seat in every section of the restaurant was occupied, scores of middle aged folks along with an abundance of young 20 something year olds. It's hip, it's classy. It's a very nice decor. Romantic or a night out with friends. You can see it all happen within those walls. On this fine Tuesday evening, luck was on our side. I found two at the bar. Within minutes of seating we were greeted by Colin. This is where the best part of the experience at Earls began. The Service: 5/5 His disposition welcoming, knowledgeable, accommodating and confident around the bar and in helping us navigate the menu. Was it his experience in working the F&B industry or was it a reflection of the training? Probing questions and our answers, his active listening and suggestions lead us to have a satisfying range of cocktails. As for the kitchen, his recommendations gave us a preview of what Earls does best(Oysters) and is aspiring to achieve(fusion of local) in its first location in paradise. The Oysters: 5/5 Stars - Absolutely addictive. Similar to Kumamoto Oysters in size, these Merasheen Bay Oysters are crisp and clean. Price High at $6 per. Szechuan Shrimp & Pork Dumplings: 5/5 Stars - Excellent balance of flavor, a touch of crunch and heat from the chili oil. Shareable 2 to 4 people. Price is fair. Ahi Crispy Rice: 3/5 stars - Ahi is nice tasting. Rice is a nice texture. Still it lacks some originality. Good but I'd prefer to try another item on my next visit. Chips & Salsa: 3/5 Stars - This was offered to us complimentary. Texture of the in house chip itself lands at a 4/5. The Salsa is too close to a generic Pace Picante store bought salsa landing at 2/5 stars Overall, Earls has selected a prime location on Waikīkī. What they have built certainly feels like a strong contender to be amongst the top 10 "must try" modern restaurants list for tourists. Been waiting awhile to try Earl's. The food was delicious our favorite was the tuna crispy rice sushi, but the charred corn and avocado dip was a nice appetizer. We waited about 45 minutes for a table and the service was slow, but I did appreciate how friendly and attentive our waitress was. They even gave us a birthday treat to celebrate at the end. I really liked the design of the restaurant and all the plants gave a nice tropical feeling and created a nice ambiance. Really wanted to like this place but unfortunately the service and food was so poor that I won't be coming back. First, we had our table given away after showing up 15 minutes late (the grace period is 10 minutes, btw!). I completely understand the grace period of 10 minutes but feel like it's pretty unreasonable that they gave our table away in the 5 minutes that we were late especially considering that parking is literally nonexistent and we were struggling to find parking in a neighbor garage. They said that they could put us back on the waitlist which was 45 minutes long, but that we could sit at the bar in the meantime. We got to the bar and the bartender was great, super attentive and easy to talk to. The place is HUGE and beautifully decorated, but it can get pretty loud. Also, what is up with every single one of the servers wearing matching Aritzia outfits and all looking like 21 year old BYU students?? Looked more like a casting call for Love Island than a restaurant. Which I wouldn't have a problem with, but it felt like none of them knew what was going on. When a table opened up and we moved from the bar from the table, it seemed as if nobody had communicated with each other because they were all very unsure of what to do. When we finally did move to our table, we promptly got warned by our new server that we had 30 minutes to eat there because another reservation was coming even though we had only sat down for 5 minutes. Food-wise, the truffle fries were wonderful but I wouldn't waste your time on the steak. The steak is small, overpriced, and overcooked. I asked for a medium rare and received something that was definitely borderline well-done. The truffle tortellini portion was pretty small for $29 and tasted suspiciously exactly like the tortellini I buy from Costco. I normally never give bad reviews on Yelp but had such a bad experience at this restaurant that I unfortunately will not be coming back. Had an amazing dinner at Earls to celebrate our Honeymoon! As we were seated, the staff gave us a handwritten card to congratulate us. Excellent service from our server Kainoa and the other staff! But was very disappointed when we actually tried it. First of all, some of the descriptions are misleading. We ordered the Crispy Rice Sushi with spicy ahi, which says it has "Spicy ahi tuna, crispy sushi rice, dashi mayo, unagi, micro cilantro". It did NOT come with unagi aka fresh water eel. It came with unagi SAUCE! BIG DIFFERENCE!!! They were missing the word "sauce" it there and that makes a huge difference! We also ordered the Shrimp + Scallop Spaghettini. It only came with 2 shrimps & 3 tiny pieces of scallops!! This dish was sooooo not worth ordering!!! A total rip off!! The pasta was also really dry. The drinks were really tiny. We came at 6:30pm for dinner and asked if they offered validation. Our server told us that they only offer validation before 6pm and that they don't offer validation after 6pm because the servers that work there use the validation stickers for themselves. The ambiance in there was so loud and dark. We had a hard time hearing and talking to one another, even though we were next to each other. Second experience; Still amazing. Stopped in for their awesome happy hour at 2pm and helped by Maya from Colorado who was effective, kind and helpful today. Half dozen of oysters, salmon sushi, corn and avocado dip, truffle fries and ribeye! Steak was cooked amazingly with broccoli and mashed potatoes, with fried onions on top. A couple mango margaritas, a mai tai and a toffee chocolate cake for good measure. Thank you Earl staff for sitting us so close to the singer today as well who killed it with his reggae, classic rock, sublime and other melodies. I was very excited to see the hype of these place and if it lives up to the expectations. And honestly, I was happily impressed. Our friend had made a reservation to celebrate her husband's birthday. They had previously dined at the restaurant's Colorado location and loved the food and wanted usnto try it. Based on their experience, we were excited to try the restaurant and chose it for this special occasion. The restaurant is located upstairs, with the hostess stand situated at the bottom of the escalators and stairs, in the former California Pizza Kitchen space on Kalakaua Avenue. From the lower level, the restaurant appeared open, with ceiling fans visible above. Our reservation was scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Due to the lack of parking in the building itself, we parked at the International Market Place. Parking was limited and the area was busy and resulted in a 5-7 minute walk to the restaurant after parking. We arrived at 6:10pm. There was a couple ahead of us at the hostess stand. By the time we were assisted, it was 6:12 p.m. We were informed that the restaurant has a 10-minute grace period which we missed because we were allegedly two minutes late. Therefore, our reservation had been canceled and the table had been given away. We were then offered a table with a wait time of an hour and a half, which was extremely disappointing given the circumstances. To make matters more frustrating, our friend had called the restaurant and was told that the grace period was 15 minutes. During that call, the hostess apologized for the situation, which further highlighted the inconsistency in communication. Given the excessive wait time, we chose to dine at a nearby restaurant instead, which turned out to be a much better experience. We were appalled by the discourtesy and the lack of flexibility shown by the staff. We were only slightly late and arrived within what we understood to be grace period. This was, without question, the worst service experience I have had. I would not recommend this restaurant, and if zero stars were an option, that would be my choice. read more

My friend wanted to celebrate her birthday at Earls Waikiki and I was excited to try the new restaurant that has 70 locations in the US and Canada. Getting a reservation for a large group on a Friday night was surprisingly easy. The toughest part was figuring out where to park as the restaurant has no validated parking. I decided to park at International Market Place and get validation with a $25 purchase. From the parking, it's about a 7 minute walk to Earls. After you check in at the host stand, go up the escalator. The restaurant is open air and was pretty warm that busy night so dress accordingly. The restaurant looks trendy and upscale with lots of greenery and dim lighting. I really liked the fun and lively atmosphere. I was also pleasantly surprised at the variety of dishes the menu offered from pricier steaks to more reasonably priced items like burgers and salads compared to other Waikiki restaurants. I ordered the carne tacos and they were delicious! Our group had a great time. Our server was pretty amazing and took good care of us. We were lucky to be seated at a long table as we saw a group squeezed tightly in a booth. The restaurant was also very accommodating and allowed us to bring a cake and did not charge a cutting fee. The interior is stylish, the bathrooms were impressively clean, and the atmosphere depends on where you sit -- near the bar, by the windows upstairs, or in the center of the restaurant. It's lively but still comfortable, and the service was friendly and attentive. The cocktail menu is honestly hard to choose from -- lots of creative options, plus classic drinks with a twist. They also have a great selection of zero-proof cocktails, which I really appreciated. I had the grilled sea bass, we also ordered salmon, one couple shared the steak + sushi combo, and our vegan friend picked something plant-based. Newish spot in Waikiki. Tried their HH on a Thursday afternoon. Sat at the bar. Service was fast and friendly. Great ambiance. Tried a few items on the menu: Chips/guac Dumplings Nashville chicken Better than expected actually. All were good. Portions on the chicken are a bit on the small side. Chips could be better but the guac made up for it. Dumplings were great. Nice spice to it. Will try their ETOH (alcohol) and other food on the menu. Overall, nice welcomed spot in Waikiki. read more
