Absolutely fabulous!!! The avocado Benedict toast, blueberry pancakes, gooey bread was amazing!!!! And Brian our waiter was delightful!

Overly Expensive !!! Bill was over $130 and they charged us an additional $20 just to be serviced !!

What a disappointment! I'd eaten at Eggspectations in Northern Virginia years ago and always enjoyed it, so I was glad when I heard Richmond was getting one. We went on Sunday right around 12 noon. It was moderately busy, but nowhere near full. We approached the hostess stand where three people were perched. NONE of them acknowledged us, so I acknowledged them. One told us there'd be a 20 minute wait, but we decided to sit at the bar, which was available immediately. Thankfully there was a discarded menu nearby that we were able to grab and share. We let the barkeep know we were ready and placed our order (purposely avoiding the drinks first, order however many minutes later process). Our very tasty orange juices came out early, but our food (high rise pancakes) took longer than it should've. We had to ask for water twice. The quality of the food was not stellar. The pancakes were thin and rubbery. The bacon and sausage were middling. The potatoes were few and kinda sour. The over-medium egg, thankfully, was perfect. The syrup was also sour. The only other syrup they had was sugar free, and that tasted much better. Meawhile, three other people sat beside us and eventually left due to neglect. After we got our food, we were neglected, too. We never even saw our original girl again. We had to flag down a different barkeep to just pay our tab, which automatically included 20% gratuity. How dare they? You're going to MAKE us pay 20% when the service didn't warrant it? For two people. Table of 20, I can understand, but two? Two?! We didn't understand why there were always at least 3 hostesses (why so many?) and so few wait staff. Lose the hostesses and hire more wait staff if you perceive you are too busy to manage the demand. read more

First time coming with my friends and the food was wonderful. I had the eggs Benedict, my friends got the bagel with eggs and poutine. The food was so flavorful. There's nothing bad to say about the food. The issue I had was the automatic tipping an my server. Unfortunately I don't remember my servers name, but she only came to get in the food order and check. I finished my water before even ordering too. Midway through my meal, I saw there was a sign on the table stating there will be an automatic 20% tip. I have social anxiety and it stated if the service was not worth 20% than ask a manager. Honestly it was too much to bother for that. I don't know if it's because the server knows she'll automatically get tipped 20% and she just didn't bother. read more

Eggspectation was Eggceptional!! I had a boozy Sunday brunch with my husband here. We added our self to the virtual waiting list on our way to the restaurant and were quoted a 25-30 minute wait.(pro tip: ALWAYS sign up ahead of time otherwise you will end up waiting for what will feel like forever with a hungry mob of Sunday Brunchers) Despite our efforts to plan ahead Our wait sill ended up being a little over an hour. Once we were seated I was H-A-N-G-R-Y and eager to get my boozy brunch started. Much to my surprise our waiter was already three cups of Jameson deep and was not afraid to tell us about it. Apparently the long brunch crowd was giving him a run for his money. Some people would've been put off by this but not us. We loved his honesty and had fun with it. We started out with a Bloody Mary & a pitcher of strawberry mimosas! The pitchers of mimosas are not advertised on the menu but they have them and they are delicious!! The Bloody Mary was pretty standard. Not the best I've ever had but it did what it was supposed to do. We ordered the Chesapeake Eggs Benedict, corned beef has and calamari to get things started. The calamari was crispy but came with a weird pick de Gallo sauce as well as an aioli. I hated the sauces but the calamari itself was ok. The Chesapeake eggs Benedict had crab cakes and it was pure heaven!! The corned beef hash was savory and very tasted. The corned beef was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The real show of our entire meal was the side order of grits I ordered on a whim because so was hangry!! You guys!! I'm gonna make a really big statement here these are the best grits I've ever had at a restaurant!! The were soooo creamy and the cheese was blended just right!! I could honestly eat these grits every single day of my life!! Told y'all I was gonna make a big statement! Overall I loved my Boozy Brunch at Eggspection and I cannot wait to come here again and again and again!! I'm giving Eggspection 4 fabulous stars! I wanted this to be better, but 3 stars it is. I might do 3.5, but definitely not 4. We went on a Friday morning. Our server was great, and we learned it was her first week! The restaurant is cute, farmhouse decor, which is all the rage at the moment. It also seemed clean. The menu is very large and difficult to read bc it must be in size 5 font. I assume they wanted it all to fit on a single piece of laminated , extra long paper, but they should offer magnifying glasses. And note I am not older, nor do I use reading glasses for anything at this point. Also take note that they have no "side items" on the menu, but hubby was able to order eggs on the side. They have an espresso menu. Not sure if I am just not used to it, or if it isn't intuitive, but I ordered a macchiato and it came as a shot, not a full cup. When I order a macchiato elsewhere it is normally a latte size. Enough of that. Let's talk about the food itself. My husband and friend both ordered the chicken and waffle. They both said the chicken was very good. I, on the other hand, couldn't decide so I ordered the eggs Benedict AND the blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes. The eggs Benedict were disappointing because the eggs were over cooked. I expect poached eggs to have a runny yolk on an eggs benedict, these were more medium boiled-ish. They also weren't hot, the entire plate seemed room temperature. The lyonnaise potatoes would've been really good if they weren't room temperature. Those pancakes though.....sooooooo good! They looked like they would be super heavy, but I just didn't scoop all the blueberry compote with every bite and the pancakes themselves were pretty light. There were also whole blueberries mixed in there. I thoroughly enjoyed them and was really glad I ordered them given the disappointing eggs Benedict. Will I go back? Maybe. I won't be rushing to get there, but I might head back at some point. Hoping next time is better. Should you try it? If you are in the area, sure. read more

Eggspectation unfortunately was a little bit of a let down for me. While the food was good the service was definitely a let down and what I will address first. Got sat around 1:30 by 1:45 still no waiter or waitress stopped by to get a drink order or anything. While I understand this is there busy time I feel as though why seat people if there is not a waiter for the table. First acknowledgement finally came at 1:48 a full 18 mins after sitting down a waiter finally came. The food arrived at 2:20 a full 32 mins after ordering. Again I understand Sunday is there busiest day but still waiting close to 60 mins after being seated is ridiculous. Now on to the restaurant the overall them or design I would call industrial chic. The taps are cool with the booths having Georgia pacific plywood covered with glass on top. Once finally getting the food I will say I was impressed! The eggs had great flavor along with the pancake and bacon. With this I will say the food is good just be prepared for a long wait on a Sunday. PS-If you order cheese on your eggs it's a $2.49! I was expecting maybe a dollar but 2.50 for cheese in eggs is a bit much. read more

Came for the first time with friends for brunch. Started with the seasonal harvest mimosas and really enjoyed them. Ordered the frittata which came with an arugula salad and potatoes. The potatoes were great. Frittata was good and the salad was a nice compliment. Overall a good meal and I would definitely come back. Friendly service too. Kind of feel like I should only give one star, but my server was nice, so here's two (although she did mention a few times how tired she was from waking up to be at work that morning). I sat at the bar for breakfast and some coffee around 9:15am and I was overwhelmed by the amount of fruit flies and gnats that were everywhere. I was especially taken aback bc they hadn't opened that long ago for the day. It was so disgusting I didn't even feel like eating and got it to go, ended up tossing it later bc I was so grossed out. If there that many flies up front, there must be more in the kitchen and in my food. Tried to find a manager but it was empty, quiet, and awkward. I was very surprised how good Eggspectation was when we went there Friday evening. #1 - terrific happy hour until 7pm Monday-Friday. Great food specials. Highly recommend the seafood pizza. Also the Chesapeak homemade chips were terrific. We tried a lot of the appetizers - prob. only one I wouldn't order again were the Fried Oyster Sliders (good but nothing special). Everyone thought the food was terrific. Very open bar area. I hope people really start coming here as it really deserves a crowd. Good drink selection as well. Good service. The food was a little slow coming out would be my only nit pick. So maybe not good if your in a major hurry or something. I called Saturday to see if I could make a reservation and was told no but put myself on the waitlist on yelp. I did and get there and am told that was incorrect information. Nice. There was a 30 minute wait and it went quick. The food was okay. I've not had corn beef hash without potatoes. There was no toast or anything to accompany it. The cranberry mimosa was great. They charged my friend $2.79 extra for cheddar cheese on her eggs. $3.79 for one slice of French toast, $9.99 for three pancakes. A little over priced. I wanted to try a brunch place while I was in RVA for the weekend. I was very pleased with this find! The food here was delicious and better than I had expected. I got the Cajun Shrimp and Grits with a side of the Lyonnaise-Style Breakfast Potatoes. The Shrimp and Grits were amazing here. It was cooked a little different than what I was used too, but maybe I just haven't had enough Grits in my life. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sauce it was covered in was some type of red sauce with andouille sausage. The cheesy grits were amazing as well, I may have to get one as an extra side next time! The staff was incredibly attentive and were following all safety precautions due to covid. All of the staff had masks on and were following 6-feet rules. We sat inside, and the spacing between all the tables was far enough to feel comfortable dining in. I'll start by saying that I rarely order breakfast to go. However, I made it to my office and realized that I was starving. So, I looked on DoorDash and came across Eggspectation that appeared to have a very diverse menu that came along with a long wait time. So, I ordered the veggie frittata that came with breakfast potatoes and a bowl of the cheese grits with a bottle of water. Upon receiving the order, I noticed that the frittata had a bed of arugula on top. However, it didn't really have any dressing or anything. All the less, I was still eager to try it all. First, the potatoes were fine. Not great but just fine. I'm not a condiments person to add ketchup. However, the caramelized onions seemed to give then some flavor. Next, the grits were pretty good. They do appear to be stone ground grits if that's not quite your preference. Next the frittata. Ummmmm, the worst! It was so very dry and lacked flavor. I used most of the 2 packets of salt that came with my utensils. However, I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. It was just...not good at all. It seemed to be cooked way too long. I'm recommending that they reassess the recipe. :) Will I order again from this place? Probably not since it has a 4.99 fee attached to it. Based on the menu, I had high expectations. I left with an average opinion. Croque Madame. I am tuned to a béchamel with gruyere on wonderful crispy bread. I make this at home, it is a lot of work. They have, per the menu, a gruyere with a dijon hollandaise. Nope. Just no. The wonderful brioche thick sliced bread with a TINY swipe of dijon Hollandaise sauce on the middle of a crispy edge/soggy middle bread came off as dijon mustard on the bread. The ham was riddled with muscle/hard pieces... like it was cut too close to the bone. There was a lot of ham and a bunch of gruyere. It seriously lacked the lusciousness of a Croque Madame. If you crave an open face ham and swiss - this is perfect. True Croque Madame, not so much. I LOVE the idea of a bit of mustard to POP the sauce - again, sorry, this looked/tasted like a spoon plop of dijion on the middle of the bread. The potato lyonnaise - absolutely perfect! Little crunch and a TON of flavor! Perfect. Really - wonderful. The highlight of the classic eggs bene was the grilled ham. A lot of ham, grilled to perfection. There was so little Hollandaise sauce that it did not ooze past the few drips that hit the muffin. The muffin was not golden brown crisp. The Hollandaise sauce had a weird taste - like bitter/tangy - something. It was not the luscious sauce that it should have been. The eggs were over / the outer edge of the yolk was cooked. It should all be warm and runny... IMO. The fries appeared and tasted like a typical frozen variety, the the crunchy coating that some folks like. Our server was very up upbeat - she was happy to be there - all smiles. My issue was that she was absent - loved my excellent unsweet tea, but an ice cube would have been nice. When she asked about our meal, I told her that the Hollandaise was off, it tasted bitter... her response was, I'm sorry you did not like it. Nothing else. She watched me take my first two bites. But, Ive got to give it to her - happy/cheerful - She just did not respond to a negative critique as well as she could have. (Send the mgr, remove from bill, offer something...) After our initial order I asked for an order of sausage links. We received them in less than 2mins after our meal was delivered. They were very brown and crispy outside - so, perfect - but they were room temp, at best, and a bit dry. The location had very nice outdoor dining, with heaters. The inside is roomy. Our booth was worn - cracked leather/pleather that bugged me - I was wearing shorts. The bartender - he appeared to be super cool - because I am a PEN geek. The dude had NICE gel pens strapped to both arms, like bracers (old times), held on with a couple of rubber bands. He will never be without a pen! This would have been a 2-star, but the potato lyonnaise were.... simply awesome. read more

The waitress didn't notice us in her section so we just sat there for like 25ish minutes with not even water before I asked who our server was. Food came out, no silverware. Moved to another table to escape some of the gnats but it was no use. Automatic 20% gratuity means they have no reason to give a shit at all. I'm boycotting places that have auto tip when you aren't a large party. My first experience here was wonderful, idk what happened but it is ruined. read more

I got the French toast with the potatoes. I loved the cook of the potato with the onions, but they NEEDED salt. The French toast looked and tasted like they didn't even touch an egg batter. And there was no butter. I was trying to ask the waitress for some butter but by the time we could catch her or came back to the table we were done with our food. This was my first visit to Eggspectation and will likely be my last. The food I had was delicious, but overpriced. The service was less than average. I had to keep asking for coffee refills which took a long time to come. It took a LONG time for my food to be served and the restaurant was not that busy at all. They add a 20% gratuity automatically. I did not realize that Ahead of time. I usually tip at least 20%, but I would have only left 15% today, due to lack of service. I had to ask for my check and the entire process took way too long. Over all I was very disappointed in the experience. read more

This place is awesome! The bartenders/waiters/waitresses are awesome, especially the guy that walks around with all those pens on his shirt maybe this will remind me to bring him one this week... There are plenty of draft beers to drinks to choose from. Their hash-browns & poached eggs are great are to die for. The bar has two sides so there is enough space, which is where I preferably like to sit when I'm there. Great atmosphere to sit down and do some work done personally. Bathrooms are always clean & different areas to sit in for different reasons. Can't wait till they start opening up at regular hours again because at this moment, I think they close at 5 o'clock every day read more

IF YOU'RE HUNGRY OR IN A RUSH DONT COME HERE! Visited this location at 12pm on a Monday and it was only a few other guest there. Once we arrived we were waiting on a few others. As each additional guest arrived it took our waitress longer and longer to service us with drinks. Once all 4 of us arrived we asked the server for 5 mins to decide on our orders...it took 20 minutes. Our food then took another 30 mins which isn't bad but after you waited now 45 minutes it was way too long. Our server then checked on us right as the food came out and didn't see her again for at least 20 minutes. The worst part is the tip is already added (20%) which is probably why the service isn't great because they are no longer working for it. read more

First time for me ordering "take out" from here and I must say Fabulous experience! Food freshly made with temperatures of food as if ordered in restaurant. I must recommend Lobster Benny and S'mores French Toast dishes. These two dishes are fantastic, and can't wait to try other dishes. A difinite jewel of a restaurant to my area! read more
