I made our reservation weeks in advance as a Father's Day surprise for my husband but from the moment we arrived, everything went downhill. Our waiter was unprofessional throughout the entire experience. The first thing he did was insist on giving us a handshake. It wasn't a normal handshake it was extremely firm and uncomfortable to the point that my hand actually hurt afterward. It also felt inappropriate considering we were about to have dinner. As soon as he walked away, my husband looked at me and asked, "Did he squeeze your hand too?" I said yes because he had done the exact same thing to both of us. It immediately created an awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere. When we ordered our appetizers, we asked if our crab cakes could be prepared the way we've always ordered them during previous visits. His immediate response was, "Not today." He gave us a lengthy explanation about how they were too busy because it was Saturday. However, we've dined here many Saturdays before and have never had an issue. Eventually, he agreed to accommodate the request, but by then the interaction had already left a bad impression. His overall attitude and demeanor made us feel as though we were an inconvenience. He came across as rushed, dismissive, and almost as if he felt he was above us. We felt pressured to order before we were ready. When we asked for a little more time to decide on our entrees, he seemed irritated. Later, when we decided to order another item, he again gave us a hard time. At that point, we simply told him, "Never mind. We'll just stick with the appetizers." The entire experience was uncomfortable, and the negative energy completely overshadowed what was supposed to be a special Father's Day celebration. I spoke with the manager and explained everything that had happened. While he apologized, I left feeling as though my concerns were being dismissed rather than genuinely addressed. At that point, we decided to leave because Father's Day was already being ruined, and we didn't want to spend the rest of the evening feeling uncomfortable. Thankfully, we were able to get a table at RH Ocean Grill in Newport Beach, where we enjoyed a wonderful Father's Day dinner that lasted until 10:00 p.m. They completely turned our evening around. It's disappointing because we've always enjoyed dining here and have had many great experiences in the past. That's what made this visit even more surprising. It's unfortunate that such an important occasion was overshadowed by poor service, an unprofessional attitude, and a lack of concern when we brought our experience to management's attention.

Although we had a window view, we weren't quite facing the ship. We were facing more towards the lighthouse. And I was kind of disappointed. But because it was a weekday and the tables by the window left early, our server let me get some pictures of the view of the ship. We were seated right away. We already knew what we wanted to order. I noticed they had zero proof alcohol and I was excited about that. I ordered a cucumber crush. It tasted more minty than cucumbery to me. We then started off with bread in the house then ordered 1/2 dozen oysters. Mmm the oysters we so delicious. It came with a side of horseradish, cocktail sauce, and vinegar. Our server, JJ, recommended the prime beef carpaccio. My husband isn't a fan of raw meat, but when he tried this with all the side toppings of the mustard-yuzu aioli, crispy shallots, capers, and maitake mushrooms on top of a cheese toast, he loved it. The capers and crispy shallots and toast give this dish texture and brings out the flavor of the beef carpaccio. My husband and I got the surf n turf. He ordered the 30 day dry-aged bone in ribeye and I got the 6 oz lobster tail with a side of Brussels sprouts. My husband got his ribeye medium rare. He said it was delicious. It cut so smooth and easy, like butter and was well seasoned. The lobster seemed a little too fine for me, but it was delicious with the butter and lemon provided. The Brussels sprouts were tasty, however we didn't care for the Gorgonzola cheese and ended picking it out. Our server JJ was so kind and provided excellent service. We were the last ones there and he was still able to provide us with a celebratory dessert of crème brûlée. And even took great pictures of us. I definitely recommend this place if you wanna have a beautiful fancy date night.

Something this restaurant does know is Salt! Heavy salt on crab legs, steak, Benedict. Second was wait time, for a filet that was overcooked and over salted. It took close to an hour from a somewhat of a prefix menu. Best thing I had was potatos and DIY Bloody Mary bar. Server was very nice and location was great. Food was a disaster

This place popped up, and it was happy hour. So we thought why not. We got lucky and found parking close (rare for that street). And walked over and immediately loved the vibe. We walked in and were greeted immediately, and then brought upstairs. The decor on the way up was awesome. The old school nature, with paintings and abstract vintage pieces.. love. It felt like we were in an old industrial building. We were surprised that it was pretty empty when we got up there. We sat at the bar, and love the decor upstairs too. There's a view of the street from up there as well that's beautiful. The bartender greeted us fairly quickly, and we each ordered a speciality cocktail on their happy hour. Both were delicious. I will say that the prices are a bit steep for me. Very glad we came during the happy hour. But really want to return to try the food and more drinks. Maybe on a special date night out!

We were immediately greeted by our server and we ordered cocktails and drinks. I ordered the brown butter old fashioned. To sweet for my tastes though the Smokey flavor was great. My usual is the Dirty Goose and I think I'll stick to that. Instantly we had bread and butter and water followed by our drinks. Everyone was enjoying their drinks and then our order was taken. The server did a fantastic job of explaining the menu and various options. Wife and I can't eat so much so we split our meals. Ordered a Cesar salad, 11 oz filet and jumbo lobster tail, and the sweet potato casserole. They make it into two salads when you share and the split is more than enough for both of us. The Cesar had something off this time. I think they changed the dressing. I'd be happier with the wedge, but my wife dislikes blue cheese. The entrees and sides arrived. The sweet potato casserole was amazing as always, the lobster tail was larger than their normal side offering though I question that it's really 7 oz. It was tender and tasted great. Normally order the rib eye but ordered the gilt this time. Perfect medium rare, very tender and flavorful. Everyone else enjoyed their dinners greatly. They had also spread little decorations on the table for my stepdaughters bday and greeted her as the person having the birthday at both the host desk and by the server. They brought her out an additional desert. All told, the food was delicious and the service was top notch. The server and staff really went above and beyond and were very friendly and polite. Originally, we were going to try to hit up Zuzu's petal, but the line was ridiculously long and the parking was a nightmare, so I decided to take her to my 2nd choice, which was Kin Long. I thought it would be a run-of-the-mill local, Thai place with food that is more homestyle and tastes slightly above average to hit the Thai food fix. Boy, was I wrong! First and foremost, they have their own parking lot, so YAY! It's starting to sound like my standards are low, but they aren't. OMG- their restroom is clean! JK. From the outside, it looked nice enough, but I was impressed when we entered. It had a comfy, modern, clean, and beachy elegance to it (the lights and that chandelier) without it being stuffy or looking disjointed in terms of interior decor. Servers were very polite and accommodating. I let my friend order since she was the guest. She ordered the garlic shrimp noodles and scampi shrimp to share, and the Thai tea drink with the ice cream bar. I ordered 3 cocktails (Jalapeno + tamarind, Lychee, and Thai tea martini) and they were all good (not overly sweet and weak sauce, but balanced, tasty, and had the right amount of buzz). We had a light lunch since we had AYCE hot pot later that evening (Mikiya - yes I'm a good host). The garlic noodles exceeded my expectations - shrimp were huge, seasoned well, and just cooked through, the noodles were broad, float, tender, and had a slight chewiness to it. The scampi shrimp were huge, tasty, succulent, and cooked perfectly (not surprised since the shrimp with the garlic noodles were so good). NOTHING WAS OVERCOOKED OR MADE ME GO.... "MEH...." and I've been to many Thai restaurants even the highly stylized kitschy ones like Farmhouse Thai in SF. The waiters were very attentive. They made their rounds to make sure waters were filled and all guests were taken care of. It helps they were also handsome too! LOL. I generally find many places nice in the competitive LA, but not nice enough for me to travel from the SGV. However, I will go out of my way to visit KL again to try the rest of their menu (drunken noodles, pork jerky, crab fried rice, papaya salad, etc.) because they left a good impression with me. Prices are reasonable and the quality of food, cocktails, clean restrooms, ambiance was coastal modern, has its own designated parking lot, and service was lovely.

I came across this place on TikTok because of their famous Thai tea popsicle, so naturally I had high hopes. First off, we got incredibly lucky with parking. I can definitely see how parking could be a nightmare since the lot is tiny, so consider finding a spot part of the dining experience. When we arrived, the inside was cute and seemed clean. We were seated outside, which also looked nice at first glance, but I noticed quite a few spider webs around the windows. My boyfriend even felt webs brushing against his arm while we were sitting there, which wasn't exactly the extra ambiance we were expecting. We ordered quite a bit: spicy Pad Thai, Bang Bang Shrimp, Pad See Ew, mango sticky rice, and of course the Thai tea with the popsicle. I'll give credit where it's due. The Bang Bang Shrimp was easily the best thing we ordered and was absolutely delicious. The Thai tea popsicle also lived up to the TikTok hype, although the actual Thai tea itself was on the sweeter side. If you love sugar, you'll probably enjoy it. My biggest complaint with the food was the spicy Pad Thai. The flavor was great, but it came with what felt like a whole chicken farm and a cameo appearance from the noodles. I ordered Pad Thai, not chicken with noodle garnish. The Pad See Ew was also noticeably salty. Now you're probably wondering why I'm giving this place a low rating if most of the food was decent. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the meal. When it was time to pay, my aunt was figuring out how much everyone needed to Zelle her since the restaurant only allows a maximum of two cards for split payments. While we were trying to do the math, our waiter stood over us watching the payment screen like he was supervising a final exam. He was clearly waiting to make sure a tip was entered. My aunt politely asked him to give us a minute, and thankfully he walked away. Maybe when you see a family actively calculating a bill, that's your cue to...actually give them a minute. Keep in mind we also tipped 20% despite all this. Throughout the meal, he did stop by our table, but it rarely felt like he was checking in to make sure everything was okay. If anything I felt rushed. He also gave off that "customer service smile" that disappears the moment you stop looking. The cherry on top for me happened as we were leaving. We had been sitting on the outdoor patio talking for a bit after paying, which is pretty normal for my family. Before leaving, I went inside to ask where the restroom was. The guy and girl behind the bar looked at each other, laughed, and then asked if I was a paying customer. Keep in mind, I was literally holding a to-go bag with leftovers from the restaurant. I responded, "Yeah, I just finished eating," while holding up the bag that made it painfully obvious. Only then did they tell me where the restroom was. Nothing says "valued customer" quite like being interrogated about whether you actually ate there while carrying your leftovers. It's unfortunate because the food had some highlights, and the restaurant itself has a cute atmosphere. But the service made it feel like customers are viewed more as transactions than guests. Between hovering over us during payment and questioning whether I even belonged there after spending money, I left feeling more unwelcomed than satisfied. I'll happily support a restaurant that appreciates my business instead of making me feel like I have to prove I earned the right to use the restroom after paying for dinner.

Trying several items on the menu provided us a nice sampling of what they have to offer. We enjoyed everything we ordered. My favorite was probably the Brussel sprouts as they were cooked to perfection and not sweet like most restaurants serve them. A close 2nd was the chicken parmesan served over zucchini noodles. The final item ordered was a mushroom pasta with shrimp. The shrimp were fantastic with a light char and perfect flavoring. The pasta was good. It was a bit to spicy for me with the chili oil so I only had a small portion. The inside is simple yet inviting with an open layout. They seemed a bit short staffed, but every one was hustling and honestly we were well taken care of. It did look quite busy on the patio when we checked in with the hostess. We were informed that it would prob be about 20 minutes or so for a table and if we wanted to wait at the bar. Exactly what we did. Bar area had maybe 5/6 hi top chairs that look onto the bar. Gabriel and Francisco who were working was knocking the drinks out one by one. Sitting there and just watching them create magic for everyone, it was quite amusing. Seeing how it's made and presented with precise detail, it was an art. While waiting for the table we started off with the raspberry lychee martini and the spicy margaritas. Both were great. The right amount of kick with each sip. Gabriel was knocking them out one by one and man was he busy. Fransisco took are of us while we were eating which we ended up just having our dinner at the bar instead. The last time I remembered the chicken Parmesan which was excellent. So we started off with the grilled prawns as a starters. Five prawns in a skewers and grilled with a delicious sauce accompanied. It was tasty and quite delicious. Decent size and meaty for each bite. Entrees was a little mishap as our meal was mistakenly given to the party next to us which they enjoyed. Honesty mistake but we laughed it off. Kitchen was informed and a rushed was put on our order. We weren't in a rush so it was fine with us. They apologized and graciously offered us a dessert after dinner. Something simple but very graceful for the honest mistake. Entrees, the wild mushrooms pasta which was quite tasty and pretty decent in size. The cream sauce which wasn't too over powering the meal was great. Each bite was very tasty. Then there was the chicken Parmesan which why we were here and expecting. The last visit it was excellent with grilled broccolini, slices of tomatoes on top and mozzarella cheese and onto spaghetti pasta. It was great. Thinking it would be the same this time which it wasn't. This visit, it was just served with squash pasta and buffalo mozzarella on top. Honestly it wasn't what I expected, somewhat of a little disappointed. Chicken was good don't get me wrong. But the hot meat with sauce and then you have literally COLD squash pasta paired with it. It was a little underwhelming. Overall, we still had a nice experience. The place was pretty full and of course the lakers were on so it was fun seeing everyone cheering them on. Bar seating for a meal was great as we had fun conversations with both Gabriel and Francisco. Plus they were cranking them drinks out one by one. Excellent in what they do. The drinks were great, grilled prawns and wild mushrooms pastas were excellent. Chicken parm, this time was a miss. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and cocktails. Also the dessert, highly recommend the Cinnabon with vanilla ice cream. Wow, it went down very well. Hoping next time will outdo this.

Visually, the burger was impressive and looked exactly like something you'd want to dig into. However, the salt level was overwhelming to the point where I genuinely could not finish it. What made matters worse was that our server was not attentive with refilling our waters, and when you're working through an extremely salty dish, hydration isn't optional. I left the meal feeling dehydrated and honestly a little frustrated. The bright spot of the visit was the Brussels sprouts, which were genuinely well done and showed some real kitchen care. If I were to return, I'd probably stick to the vegetable sides. For a restaurant with a 4 PM lull and minimal table traffic, there's no excuse for that level of inattentiveness. A simple water refill and a quick check in would have saved the experience. As it stands, the combination of an over salted entrée and absent service made for a tough sell on the value. If you're in the area craving a burger, you might want to save your money and head down the street to Louis Burger instead. Ellie's may shine in other areas; I've heard good things about the pasta, but this particular visit missed the mark.
