We came here for my birthday dinner, and I was pretty satisfied. I did not find any problem with the parking here, instead of valet we parked in the lot next to the aquarium. If you do not mind walking, park here. Plus, the walk to Famous Dave's from the aquarium parking lot is nice, you pass by all the other restaurants and also the Ferris Wheel, etc. Customer service was decent. Waitress did not really introduce herself, and just stopped by a few times to take our orders and then again to take the plates away. Noticed that the other servers were very friendly and fun. Food is great! Portions are huge, so if you're a small portion eater, I suggest sharing with someone. Love the atmosphere of the restaurant, it is very bright and playfully themed. This place has an onslaught of problems, but probably stays in business purely out of location... The portions are TINY for how much it costs, the "firecracker green beans" were just rubbery, undercooked beans which I ended up sending back to the kitchen for the collard greens, the BBQ condiment bottles were half-empty and covered in BBQ which made them messy and gross to use, and to top it off, our waitress never came back to the table after bringing the food out! Seemed to be the same for every other table in the group like she decided to go out for a half hour break without telling any of her customers or letting any of the other waitresses know to cover for her. read more

I've gone to this Famous Dave's for take out several times, and I'm a happy camper :-) The food is tasty and consistent. Their customer service is efficent and welcoming. The venue is kinda cute; it reminds me of the Armadillo Willy's I used to go to in NorCal. Parking is never a problem, and the prices are fair. read more

Coming from Tennessee, it was like the holy Grail had been found when I discovered they serve actual sweet tea :-) My sandwich was served with the paper still attached to the cheese, but the server made it right immediately. Reason 9,237,846 of why I am not a fan of 99.9% of chain restaurants. Famous daves? I am still trying to figure out wtf he is famous for... it sure isn't bbq after my experience here and at other locations of this chain. Perhaps you can enlighten me if you are cognizant. So the service was mediocre. The food wasn't at the mediocre stage. But the beer was cold and tasty. But how hard is it to poor a couple of drafts in an ice cold glass. Even with this substandard atmosphere, the place was still packed with poorly discerning individuals who may not have known of an alternative as it was in the touristy area of Long Beach. If I ever ask to come here, please harpoon me since I likely will need to be reeled in and taken somewhere else. So half of our food came out cold (me, my dad, my step mom, and the munchkin), the food took an extensively long period of time to arrive, they had a 6 pack of bbq sauces that they brought to our table that was missing 4 of the options (we only had received 2, which none of us enjoyed), ohhhh yeah even though we had been seated near the host stand, our server wasn't seen hardly at all. Case in point, it took about 15 minutes to even greet us. We had had to ask the host where our waitress was before she arrived out of thin air... poof... like a Genie, too bad she couldn't nod her head like Jeannie in I Dream of Jeannie and BOOM have hot delicious tender bbq appear. We came here for my sons 17th bday. It was kinda last minute but we were able to make reservations for a part of 10 with no problems. When we arrived we were seated promptly. Our server, Famous Kayla, came shortly to greet us and take our drink order. She was amazing and everything ran smoothly. She made sure everyone was satisfied and our drinks were always full. We walk outside and there's this group of friends crowded at their table with their dog and the dogs food/water spilled all over the floor! what! I'm all for bringing your dogs everywhere but are you really going to put your dog on the walkway? Huey vey... not the restaurant's fault but thought it was mentionable. I'm only going to be going through the things I tried! So I got the 8.99 combo platters which was just an entree and a side: ribs and mashed potatoes. I really needed my rib craving fixed! I also tried my brother's chicken tenders & my mom's brisket. Now... I did order ribs. and I'll admit! The flavor was there. But the ribs were literally not even 5 inches, tiny, and had maybe about 6 bites of meat! WHAT! And a small ass platter of mashed potatoes.... for almost $10......? Ummmm... I don't think so. They're not even baby back! Maybe if it was baby back i would kind of understand. But god damn! $10..?! My mom's brisket was no better. It was rubbery, chewy, and had NO flavor. A couple of weeks ago we went to famous Dave's barbeque and we both ordered the full rack of ribs each was $36.99 for a total of $74. For that kind of money you would think you would have great ribs.WRONG!!! To begin with the ribs were not cooked they were still raw. When we tried to cut between the bones we couldn't. So then we picked up the whole rack and tried tearing the bones apart. Still couldn't. After a long time of trying to cut them trying to tear them apart finally got one that gave way. It was like tearing skin off your body you should have heard the noise it was awful AWFUL!! It made your skin crawl. So we couldn't eat them there we thought we could cook them some more in the microwave and that might help. Wrong again. You still couldn't cut them between the bones and you couldn't tear them apart. The meat did not fall off the bone. Even our dog would not eat them. What an expensive horrible meal. I'm sure they lost at the rib cook-off they were having that weekend. And I told all my friends and he told all his friends how rubbery and raw and The ripping noise they made when you try to tear them apart. If you want good ribs go to Naples rib company in Long Beach. Or in Cerritos across from Cerritos performing arts center there is also a very good rib place. Or in Hollywood saddleback ranch barbecue is also good. Hell any place you go for barbecue is better than famous Dave's!!! read more

Sorry to say but over rated ! Idk how a BBQ place can not have Tri-Tip on their menu . The only thing to save the day was the burnt ends appetizer , I shared the combo BBQ plate with my wife it was brisket and pork ribs . The brisket wasn't to good , tasteless and dry , the ribs were decent but not worth driving all the way to Long Beach for , we shared the coleslaw and that was pretty good . Main disappointment was out of all four BBQ sauces , neither were to die for or hype about . The kids enjoyed their little meals which was fun for them ! The service was a little slow but can't hold it against our one waitress because it was a party of 16 . In my eyes I would of provided the guest with two servers or a helping hand . Three stars for the closeness to the beach , cool decorations , and food came out pretty quick . Just know that if you order brisket you can't send it back if you like the meat cooked well . I'm a rare meat eater but my step dad and mom weren't and there was nothing they can do to cook it more , says the manager of that day . Kinda wondering about the odd signage outside the place the other day. Anyhow, I hit this place on a Thursday evening with my family and kids in tow. Drinks came out all right, not too slow as it was busy. They always promise us some chips to snack on while we have drinks...but they've not shown up until the rest of the meal did...that could be better timed. $1.25 a bone for ribs that night, there wasn't a single scrap of food left on the table when we were done. Chopped pork was the best but they only gave a few spoonfuls on the feast for 2, that was disappointing. They only gave 2 corn breads as well I was expecting 3/4 since it's for 2-3 people. If they gave less fries and more meat I'd be happier, but I'll stick to lucilles or Naples for my BBQ. read more

We came here on Mother's Day and checked in 5:10 and were told a 45 min wait. Shortly before we were up on the list, we were told the kitchen was behind and they couldn't seat anyone until they caught up. They couldn't give a timeline but told those on the list already it would be soon and told new people 2.5 hours to wait. They were not honest about what was going on, if the kitchen was closed, if people would ever be seated at all! Turns out the got an influx of online orders and kept filling those but were t seating their in person guests. We were not seated until 8 pm! While the hostess was kind and we know she tried and only told us what she was taught to say, the manager only came out when we requested to speak. Nothing was offered to make amends, no cornbread or drinks while we wait, no discount. We even had to get him to commit that they would serve us in 30 minutes once sat because one family walked away from their table after waiting for their food for 1.5 hours! We also had to request for them to cover the parking since we were there twice as long as we planned. Many of these problems seem like issue from the higher ups. No iPad to text customers so they can do other things or beepers?! No way to allow guest to go walk around and come back? Not even a guideline for how long it takes the kitchen to catch up or ability to stop online ordering. Very inefficient. read more

BBQ #1 of 3 in one week. The Japanese tourist, part 1. There were a group of guys here direct from Japan for a special project with my company and I offered to take them sightseeing. After seeing the sights, it was time for food. But did they want Japanese food? Oh no. They wanted American food and they wanted MEAT! Turns out they'd ever had BBQ, so I knew where to go. THE FOOD: After looking over the menu, we decided on Dave's Famous Feast. It had St. Louis style pork ribs, roasted chicken and Texas beef brisket, plus a variety of sides for $40. Everything was absolutely DELISH, but the brisket.... OH the brisket... was so... SO beyond yummy!! Tender, succulent and almost melted in our mouths!! The menu said this "feast" was good for 2-3, but we were 4 and we were F U L L afterwords! I love the choice of 5 different BBQ sauces at the table, there's something for everyone (Chris D, try the "Devil's Spit" I'm sure you'll like it!). THE SERVICE: Is very friendly and attentive, even if they're busy (and they usually are). If our server wasn't checking on us, the manager was and they kept on top of all out requests. THE PARKING: Options are either valet out front, or walk 1/4 mile to the parking structure across the street at the Pike. They validate for parking, except for valet. A choice of appetizer or dessert to share and each plate of any type of meat and two sides. We had the nachos with beef brisket. It was yummy. Lots of chunks of moist brisket, black beans, diced tomatoes and onions, cheese and Dave's bbq sauce. Then we each had a plate with any kind of meat, two sides and a cornbread muffin. I love me some rib tips so I had that. I get more succulent meat out of that than the regular ribs. For my sides I got the garlic roasted mashed potatoes and greens. The greens were ok. I've definitely had better, but the mashed potatoes were spot on. Next time I'll order two helpings of those instead. Anyways, potatoes are considered veggies right? The cornbread muffin had a nice golden crust and buttery, moist center. There was so much food. I was full after just 2 pieces of the meat, half a muffin and the mashed potatoes. Shhh. I was actually saving room for dessert. Coz are you kidding me? Who'd wanna pass over the home style bread pudding? Sticky, sweet caramel sauce over moist, baked cinnamon flavored bread, crunchy pecans, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. That's it. I'm way past heaven. Famous Dave's BBQ was messy and classic. - By messy, I mean sloppy with finger licking required. - By classic, I mean kind of boring and safe. An order of Big Baby Ribs with Corn Bread, Corn-on-the-Cob, Mac & Cheese, and Green Beans was my choice. Olivia went with a Two Meat BBQ Combo of BBQ Chicken and Texas Beef Brisket with Potato Salad and Fries. The 5 Sauces were like the Spice Girls of BBQ: Sporty, Scary, Baby, Ginger, and Posh. * Dave's Original Recipe (aka Baby) Advertised as Rich & Sassy, it was more Middle Class & Timid despite having a blend of herbs & spices. * Georgia Mustard (aka Scary) With Brown Sugar, Mustard, and Vinegar, the Georgia sauce was eerie. * Texas Pit (aka Posh) This Tomato and Black Pepper sauce was pretentious, but hardy. * Sweet & Zesty (aka Ginger) Citrus flavors and spices merged to make a loud entrance, yet left me feeling like it was all just a facade. * Devil's Spit (aka Sporty) This was my favorite BBQ sauce because the Chili and Peppers had a little energy and a hint of real skill. The Service was magical. By magical, I mean our waitress performed a disappearing act. After about 20 minutes, another waiter helped us. Not sure what happened to the original lady. Maybe she was performing her magic in another part of the restaurant or the Sawing a Woman in Half trick had a mishap. My favorite part of the meal was a Long Island Iced Tea. Though I will say if I had to choose out of the chain restaurants, Lucille's would win. After our skunkola fishing trip last week, my fishing buddies agreed that we would hook up for bbq and drinks instead of freezing our butts off in the rain for zip. We usually go to Lucilles, but decided to give Famous Dave's in Long Beach a try. For appetizers we had Bloody Marys, Rum and Cokes, and tall beers. Nice appetizer combo! It's quite an extensive menu and we all ordered the 2 meat combo with St. Louis Style and Memphis dry rubbed pork ribs. Darrell was bummed that this place didn't offer beef ribs but after finishing up his 3rd appetizer I don't think it mattered. I prefer St Louis style ribs (pic) over any other as they are juicier, flavorful, and very tender when properly cooked. This place does ribs right! I had to agree with Cedric that the St Louis ribs were better than Lucilles and right up there with some of the better bbq joints. The Memphis dry rubbed ribs (pic) reminded me when I did a dry rub of brown sugar, cumin, seasoning salt, chili, onion, garlic, pepper and smoked indirectly for about 3 - 4 hours. With no wet mop, they are drier and you end up with a slightly sweet seasoned crust. Down home bbq! The have a nice selection 5 bbq sauces so I had fun adjusting the flavors. They were all good, but I used more of the Devil's Spit and Texas Zesty over the others. The bbq beans were so good it was the first time I could remember finishing that dish in a restaurant. They have a warm bbq flavor and are cooked down with brisket, links, and peppers. The restaurant has a comfortable ambiance is located stepping stones from the ocean next to Gladstones. Plus you can walk right over to Shoreline Village or the Pike. The interior has a rustic southern look with lots of wood, posters of pigs, and their trophy table. There is no doubt that great bbq can be found at take out joints, but for dining in with friends or family at a great location with good bbq - this is my number one pick. read more

Did someone say dollar ribs? I'm so there! Sooo Thursdays, if you sit in the bar at Famous Dave's, they have a rib special, $1 per bone. But you HAVE to be in the bar. Considering a rack of ribs has 12 bones, and a rack at dinner usually goes for $25 easy (because it comes with sides and a salad and all the frills) this is a serious deal! Especially for me, the girl who's eyes are forever bigger than her stomach haha. The food was really good. I got a few ribs and a side of mac n cheese. The ribs were nummy! And the mac n cheese was a really delish meld of cheese, corn nibs, and it had a bite to it, very good! Even the salad was pretty scrumptious, and as I've mentioned before in other reviews.. salads are lettuce n stuffs in a bowl. But FD's had bacon and hard boiled egg (which I usually HATE), and just the right dice on the tomatos.. it matters people. Sitting at the bar wasn't bad, I actually really enjoyed myself. Our server/bartender Toby was very nice. Having been a server/bartender myself, I appreciated that he had the art of doing other things around the bar while partially listening to what we were chatting to each other about when the food got there, and brought us an extra side of salad dressing without us having to ask. I know it seems small and pointless but it's really the little things that give me a warm n' fuzzy and keep me coming back for more. Hostress was friendly as we entered into the restaurant. Looked around and saw some people waiting for a table. Oh no the wait is probally going to be super long, and we are hungry! To our suprise the hostress said two correct. Um, yes. Right this way as she lead us to a big comfey booth. Handed us our menus and said enjoy. Our server was friendly and funny. He gave us just the right amount of time between ordering our drinks and food. After looking over the menu and deciding not to order half of it. I decided on getting the Barbeque Chicken for $13.99 you get alot of food, which i like! Bestie ordered: Chicken Tenders which also was a combo. The waiter came back to our table and explained their different BBQ sauces and even let us test eachone. Sweet and sassy was my favorite hands down! Food finally came out. OMG where to start.. I'm disappointed. My bill was $35 but my waiter accidentally charged an additional $52. I called that night and the manager said it would fall off by the end of the night. Come Monday, it was still showing on my bank. I called again and one of the managers said "I don't know who told you that but it takes 2-3 business days." I wish I was the type to make a scene out of it but I cant; but it is inconvenient because I have bills to pay and they were so unapologetic like they didn't care they made the mistake. I've been to Famous Dave's before...in fact, I was at the grand opening in Long Beach sometime ago. I wasn't impressed by the food, but it was definitely better than Lucille's and Porky's. Since Famous Dave's baby back ribs fail to hit my BBQ-spot, I decided to try something different I had the mini sandwich sampler; hot links, chopped BBQ pork, BBQ pulled chicken and another BBQ pork sandwich. All miniature versions of the big boys, which were tasty, but just not what I was looking for. I did enjoy the corn-on-the-cob and the lemonade. Usually I like coming to Famous Dave's but tonight was NOT a good experience, why for when I asked can we chill at the bar while waiting for a table the receptionist told us NO because they had no one to cover, I'm asking myself how is this my problem or any other customers issue that they didn't plan for the staff needed to run the bar. The first time my boyfriend and I went to Famous Dave's, we went to the Rancho Cucamonga location. Though he had been to Famous Dave's before, that was my first time. There is another Famous Dave's location in Long Beach, so we go to that one more often, since it's closer to us. We just happened to be in the Rancho Cucamonga area that day around dinner time ... and we were starving. I can't even remember what we ordered on my first visit to Famous Dave's, but I think it was some sort of BBQ combo. There were only two things that I remember distinctly - the moist, yummy, authentic cornbread muffins and the flavorful, seasoned house chips. Yum. While the house chips are complimentary (ask for as many refills as you want), if the cornbread does not come with your entrée, you'll have to order it a la carte. But these homemade-tasting buttery morsels are definitely worth it. Depending on what time of the day you visit Famous Dave's, you may be in for a wait. On our most recent visit (normal Tuesday around 7:30 p.m.), we had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. I remember waiting when we went to the Rancho Cucamonga location as well (that was around dinner time on a Saturday, and it was definitely crowded). As I remember it, service wasn't stellar (at the Long Beach location, our server was particularly slow and didn't even get our house chips before our meal came ...), but the food was still worth it. On our most recent visit to Famous Dave's, my boyfriend and I experienced particularly noteworthy entrées. Here's what we got: "Dave's Sassy Barbeque Salad": Diners have a choice of grilled or crispy chicken, Texas beef brisket, Georgia chopped pork or barbeque pulled chicken atop a bed of crisp greens. The salad is topped with bacon, Cheddar cheese, tomatoes and shoestring potatoes and is tossed with honey BBQ dressing. The salad comes with cornbread muffin, so you don't have to order it a la carte for this one. I ordered this salad with the crispy chicken, and the serving that came with the salad was decent. I didn't really pick up on the shoestring potatoes much in the salad, though there was plenty bacon and tomatoes. Ideally, I would have liked a little more cheese on this salad as well, but all in all, it was a good entrée. The honey BBQ dressing was light but flavorful, and of course, the cornbread muffin was moist and delicious. If you're going for dinner, you probably can eat half the salad and take the other half home. "BBQ Buddies": I think this entrée truly signifies the best of all worlds. It's great for those who can't choose between several different sandwiches or those who want a sampler. This entrée features mini (sliders) versions of the eatery's best-selling sandwiches, including Georgia chopped pork, Texas beef brisket, barbecue chopped chicken and the hot link sausage. The four sliders are served on toasted buns. I suppose because there are four sliders in this one entrée, that's the reason why there is no side (shouldn't sandwiches come with a salad or fries?). But the flavor in each of these sliders is delightful. The boyfriend ordered this one, with some cornbread on the side. Although I didn't get to taste every sandwich, I had several bites of the Texas beef brisket. The meat was tender and flavorful, and I definitely enjoyed it. If I order this entrée next time for my meal (I was torn between this one and the salad), I look forward to trying the hot link sausage sandwich. My boyfriend was raving about that one. "Stuffed Baked Potato": If you go to Famous Dave's for lunch, take advantage of their reasonably priced lunch specials. The "Stuffed Baked Potato," in particular, is an excellent choice. Diners can choose from Texas beef brisket, Georgia chopped pork or barbeque pulled chicken which comes atop a potato loaded with bacon, sour cream, Cheddar cheese and whipped butter. The potato is a good size for lunch and, with all the condiments, makes for a filling meal. "Soup, Salad and Potato Specials": This is another feature of the lunch menu, and it's a good deal for what you get. Diners can choose two of the following: Dave's Famous Chili or soup / side salad (Fresh Garden or Caesar) / Loaded Baked Potato. Once upon a time there was a man named Dave who made delicious BBQ at reasonable prices. It was for the people, by the people and life was good. Years later Dave become a household name making him FAMOUS amongst "foodie hipsters" and restaurateur's. Meet me in St. Louis...cried the server who recommended their St. Louis Style Sweet Ribs..tender and smoky on the palate. Coleslaw gave me something to shovel in my mouth in between meaty bites of Brisket so tender it kept falling off my fork...SERIOUSLY people..you don't even need teeth to enjoy their brisket...so good and moist it would even get my Jewish Grandmother's seal of approval! Washed it all down with a 32 ouncer of Fat Tire Beer and it was all good in the BBQ hood! Lastly the servers where very friendly and knowledgeable about their menu and which BBQ sauces (they have 6) went with which type of meat. RUDEST hostess IZZY! She has no customer service skills, and literally told our party when we asked how much longer we had to wait: "you came in at 2:05 it's 2:25 so OBVIOUSLY it's been 20 min". With a HUGE ATTITUDE! My family and I come to this place all the time and have never been treated this way. We asked because all these party's were going ahead of us! Honestly, The food here is very good, fresh, and satisfying but with people unprofessional and rude, how can we have an enjoyable experience. Management should address this issue!! read more

Came here on Monday 6-9-14 with my family to have a graduation dinner. There was a total of 12 in our party, but only half were present. They told us the table would be ready when the other half arrive. Pretty standard and reasonable, no complaints. Our other half of the party arrived within 20 minutes of waiting. We told them we're complete, but the hostess told us to wait a bit more. Flash forward to about 30 minutes more, we are all still waiting. It was as if we started back to the bottom of the list. The restaurant was not busy on this Monday evening. I was able to see the table that we were eventually seated at. They took their sweet time, there was no sense of promptness to clean the table. For all that, I give this place 1 star. It is not worth the wait for big parties. They are not able to accommodate large parties. The food took forever to come out as well, the overall service was slow. The food wasn't amazing, it was just ok. My recommendation is to change up staff or management. read more

My review is mostly based on the customer service. We arrived at 3:00, but because 3 people were missing from our party (party of 13), they would not seat us. Due to valet being full and traffic was backed up near the restaurant, people were slightly late. To make matters worse, they would not even put together our table until our party was there. After a few convincing words the male host decided we were worthy enough to put together our table, but still made us wait an additional 15 minutes when the missing guests arrived. By now it's after 4:15...we finally go to our table...shocker no one took our order for about 15 minutes. The waitress started off nice, took our drink orders, but shocker, our drinks did not arrive until they were perfectly watered down to the point of no return. Suddenly our waitress disappeared and we received a new one...no explanation given... The three stars are for my food and the second waitress! She was great and deserves the kudos for serving us today. My food was good even though they gave me the wrong sides. Tips: Do not order the specialty strawberry lemonade! It's watered down, probably syrup mess. There is nothing special about it and taste like it's out of a soda machine. It's not fresh and you will not spot any traces of a strawberry. Tip 2: Don't park in valet. It's horrible and expensive. You only get $2.00 off for validation after eating at the restaurant and you need to pay with cash. read more

BBQ what more can you say. Yes it is a chain but the food is good quality. Staff is friendly. The food is plenty and the staff always have good suggestions. Next step try happy hour here. The provided sample bbq chips for the table while you waited and they were yummy. If its a sample to put on the regular menu you have my vote. read more

Famous Daves - Ribs potato salad and mac n cheese a starving womans meal - Barbeque Near Me - Long Beach, California

It was nearing lunch time. My friend looked at me and asked if I liked barbeque. My initial primal response was to slap him for asking such a stupid question. Who doesn't like barbeque?! I calmed myself down and instead responded with a civil, "Yes." We soon made our way to Famous Dave's. I, personally, had never heard of Famous Dave's restaurant so I was curious. Like many BBQ places, Famous Dave's has an old western theme. Our server didn't let us wait long and was very courteous. I'm assuming all the servers display the BBQ sauces in the same manner. If not, kudos to my server, whatever his name is. (I'm terrible with names.) He made a drawing on a white plate using the six different BBQ sauces. FYI; The hottest BBQ sauce is extremely hot. Proceed with caution. I ended up ordering the lunch special. Specifically I ordered the St. Louis Style Ribs with Potato Salad which includes a cornbread muffin. The ribs were fantastic. The meat came right off the bone with ease which allowed me to enjoy the food. I really can't stand ribs where you have to fight it with your teeth, looking like a wild animal on National Geographic. The potato salad had fresh ingredients and had a lot of flavor. Now on to the cornbread muffin which can actually be considered a cornbread cupcake. It was sweet and fluffy and really felt like a dessert. It was amazingly good. I can see why Dave would be considered Famous. The food and service was excellent. Yummy! The cornbread muffins are the best! The food isn't over the top food, but it is what it is. Simple BBQ food that leaves you FULL and satisfied.
