WOW! What a great find, off the Vegas Strip! I came here for one thing and one thing only...the Pork Belly Bao. First things first...Yup it's hard, very hard, to find. It located in the back, very back of the casino on a street that looks more 'industrial', than "Las Vegas." We walked past it twice while looking at the map on my iPhone. Finally, I said, "Let's try this building," and walked around back, which is actually the front of the casino. The doorman knew exactly what we were looking for, and said "Fat Choi?" as he opened the door for us. So, the Pork Belly Bao? AWESOME!!! AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! I would come back here, just for this. But the other foods were great too and the service was superb. We sat at the bar and our server was very attentive to our needs and offered suggestions. She was a delight and really help with out choices. The Lemon Cheesecake was outstanding, but the Mango Cheesecake really did not have a good mango flavor. The Wonton Soup? Great and I would, definitely, order this the next time I'm here. I ended up getting a side order of noodles for the soup and they, too, were fantastic. My friend has the Shortrib Rice and he was very pleased with it. So, in a nutshell, this restaurant needs to be on the strip. What great food! And service too! We went based on the review even though we have to walk through a smoke filled casino. We order pot stickers, lo mein, and the bao. The bao were ok. However, the pot stickers and lo mein were bad. Great spot for drunk munchies! We passed by here on the way home from Vegas. We yelped some spots and found this one that was on triple D. It is located inside a casino off the strip. They do check ID before you come in. The food was flavorful and greasy. Perfect with a beer or after a night out. There was only one server but she was really good! Served all the tables promptly. Decided to give this place a try after seeing it on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives during my visit to Las Vegas. Since I went with friends, we all got various items and shared. The signature items like the pork belly bao are good and the short rib grill cheese are tasty too but not enough items that only they make the best. The main issue is Chef Sheridan and his wife are no longer cooking there. The chefs continuing to make his signature items are doing a good job but I wish he would return and teach the chefs at Fat Choy how to make the chicken and rice dish he perfected when he was chef at Flock and Fowl. My wife and I came here because of DDD. it's located in a super small smokey casino. My wife ordered the Chinese chicken salad and there was a meat in it that grossed her out, not sure if it was pork or tofu but it wasn't chicken, which was the only meat that was supposed to be in there. The Fat Choy Burger: Angus Beef, Shortrib, Bacon, & Fried Egg all came together well for a very tasty and heavy burger. This something to order when you're hungry af and that burger craving kicks in. The Shortrib Grilled Cheese was another nice Asian/Diner Fusion sandwich, but I was hoping for a bigger serving. Fat Choy Ambiance: Red is the main decorative color which is evident in the bar top seats, booths, lighting and the Chinese lanterns hanging. Memorabilia of when Guy Ferreri visited for "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" is posted. There is definitely a diner feel to this small and intimate restaurant but it's very clean and great for casual dining. This 67 maximum capacity foodie diner is in the Eureka Casino. This is a tiny local casino in a very old part of Vegas right off the trip and probably one of the last places you'd find this type of fusion restaurant. The service is great and the food is tasty. I saw this place on Guy Ferreri's show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" so decided to give it a try our last day in Vegas. One great thing about Fat Choy is that it's almost never closed. It was opened until 10PM on New Year's Eve!!! It's a 10-min walk from the last stop of the Monorail (SLS stop). Service was good, our waitress was nice. + Good selection of alcoholic drinks (it's in a Casino duh!!) + The pork belly bao was pretty good , tender meat (fatty but that's how I like it) with good flavor. First thing I noticed was that there was no ground peanuts (stated on the menu and in the show). But things went downhill from there because the other dishes were disappointing. - Out of duck fried rice - Mushroom noodle with Chinese sausage and a fried egg was drenched in a super sweet sauce. I know I'm eating Americanized Chinese food but still I can see how people can enjoy this sweet sauce with little flavor. - Grilled cheese with short ribs (highly recommended in the show!). It came with a lot of shredded beef, but I didn't taste the onion jam (which the waitress informed me was mixed in with the short ribs) and the flavorful was just not there.I asked for dressing on the side for the small side salad but it came drenched in dressing (again, too sweet cuz it was balsamic). I hope my experience was just an exception because it was the last day of the year and people who were working just wanted to go home early. But based on my experience I would not recommend this place to anyone and would not go back myself either. read more

Takeout (add $1) lunch on a sunday: chicken teriyaki rice $8 (comes with a generous salad of mixed greens and vinaigrette) wonton soup $7 (kept in separate containers) Hubby thought it was just okay, and I liked it, but wanted to try other things (*a sandwich- shirt rib grilled cheese, keeps getting kudos*) on the menu. This was last year, so we don't live in the area anymore. Johnny Cash won a Grammy award for singing 'A Boy Named Sue'. And a boy named Sheridan Su won a James Beard award for cooking chicken, a half century later. Since Su's acclaimed dishes at his other restaurant (Flock and Fowl) are so good, you figure Fat Choy's must be too...even if it is located inside a smoky dump of a slots-only, hole-in-the-wall casino.  Who cares though, there's plenty of free parking and the food is great! Fat Choy serves diner food and a few Asian items like Bao sandwiches and Teriyaki plates. I've had the pork belly Bao ($11) and the short rib grilled cheese ($14) before, both of them worthy. This time it was the massive Fat Choy burger ($16), mentioned as one of the best hamburgers in town by Thrillist.  I told them to save the runny egg though, because I didn't want it to overtake the taste of the burger nor drip down my ZZ Top beard.  The beef was a thick patty of fresh Angus (not frozen), topped with chunks of their signature braised short rib meat. Then it's covered with bacon, bacon jam, tomato, and cheddar cheese.  There are a lot of flavors involved and the combination works. My only criticism is for the boring, pre-frozen fries that come with it. I opted for tater tots this time, which aren't much better. Sorry, but I expected some real good fresh-cut fries from an award-winning chef. Fat Choy's food is Strip-worthy, only far more convenient. You park a few steps from the entrance and then once inside the single story building, the restaurant is a mere 50 feet away. If you're eating inside, it's got tables and counter stools that are a tribute to the Naugahyde booths and chairs of the 1960's that became popular in American diners, largely because they were so durable and easy to clean. If you're taking out, you can wait for your food in the one spot inside where smoking is thankfully prohibited. Whether it's one of the best burgers in town is subjective, but it is different and it did hit the spot. They have specials every day (as the photo shows). Also do NOT forget to check in on Yelp and get your free dessert! Fat Choy very generously gives you a choice and the layered chocolate cheesecake was top notch. The counter girl Tanya was warm and friendly, with a perfect demeanor for the job. But with the hardwood floor in this type of throwback restaurant, shouldn't the waitresses be on roller skates wearing retro 'soda pop girl' outfits as they bring out your food? Probably. If you're staying at Westgate or The Sahara and want a low-priced meal from a notable chef, Fat Choy is only a 15 or 20 minute walk on East Sahara, slightly over a half mile away. You will get a tasty meal for a lot less than you'd pay at a Strip casino and you won't leave hungry. read more

Can I just eat their pork bao buns all day? My mouth is watering just thinking about them! The pork is flavorful and has just enough fat on ito make it really decadent, a few sprouts give it some freshness and the sauce is there to give a bit of flavor but not over power, and the bun is fluffy and warm. I did not know what to expect here. The place is not much to look at. Nor is the casino that thrilling. I may or may not have passed some dilapidated buildings on my way there. But my my! did my coworker and I end up devouring our food! Although no matter how expensive they were- I have never had a short rib grilled cheese as good or better than the short rib grilled cheese at Fat Choy. We enjoyed everything we ordered.
