It honestly saddens me to leave such a negative review, however, after my last two visits to Fishbones I will never return stemming from terrible customer service from bother servers and management. About two weeks ago I came in for sushi with two other people and sat at the sushi bar. I was under the impression that I could order directly from the cook at the bar but was directed towards a server. The server we got seemed to be annoyed by having to serve us and suggested that we order from the sushi chef despite being told otherwise. His entire demeanor was extremely rude and when I went to pay for my bill he misplaced my credit card and didn't return it. After searching the area for a good 10-15 minutes I was told it was still in the credit card reader and nothing had happened. I spoke to a manager by the name of Leroy who was extremely dry, unapologetic and again had a rude demeanor. I was told next time that I come in he would take care of me. I was wrong. Today I came back in attempt to see if things would be better. I gave Leroy a call ahead of time and told him I would be there and was presented with the same dry tone as before. Once there, instead of coming to talk to me he sent his server back to the table several times to play the telephone game. Eventually he came out and told me he wouldn't be able to take care of me as previously said. Without a fight, I simply paid my bill and will never return again. I've been going to this place for years, especially as a Detroit native. However, I can't deal with crappy customer service. We have been coming here since the late 80's and it was always one of my favorite places. However, things have been going downhill the last couple of years. Prices keep going up and the portions are about half of what they used to be. Also, they removed two of our favorites from the menu. Food wasn't cooked all the way. The only good thing to be honest was their Caribbean breeze. My appetizer was cold. My wife's food was pink on the inside. I don't think I will be revisiting this place. And the sundae was already melted when it was served and was 90% caramel. The coleslaw had was just cabbage and nothing else. The fries were hard and burnt. They didn't even get the ranch right because it tasted like water. Worst of all the water tasted like dish soap. The waiter had a lot of attitude when all we asked was her to take the food back and remake it. I will never recommend this place to anyone nor will I be eating here again. read more

Very disappointed the Friday night manager 05/03/19 was rude and does not care about customer satisfaction. After being seated and told by multiple waiters someone would be able to help us we were told 20 minutes later the kitchen was closed we asked to talk to the manager and she was rude and accused us of seating ourselves and dismissed us with no regard. read more

One of the things I've grown accustomed to is being able to sit at the bar and eat for just about any establishment we go to. When we first walked in to Fishbones, all the seats were about empty but the bars were packed! What?!? We left, but then I'm not that picky about it, I can sit at a table so we went back in and we're going to get a high top but spots opened at the bar so we sat there. It was 5pm and there were usually two or three guys behind the bar so service was fine. Overall, Fishbone's has a pretty good ambiance, with the two bars, plenty of tables and a sushi bar as well. I don't know what you might expect at prime time, but aside from the wedding crowd it wasn't obnoxiously busy. They've got a decent selection of drafts and decent drinks. Nothing I think to say wow but perfectly serviceable. Where I think they stood out was the food. We had the catfish beignets and the Sushi appetizer. The catfish was great - well cooked but not over-cooked, with that distinct catfish taste and a nice dipping sauce. Even the complimentary rolls were good, piping hot with whipped butter. For me, though, it was the sushi. These were fresh rolls with nothing but rice and the fish on top. The whitefish and the shrimp (cooked) were good, but the tuna and the salmon were simply outstanding. I loved just having the fish with nothing to distract from it. A little soy and wasabi and it was awesome. I'm not a sushi addict so I might not be an expert, but it was fresh and clean and tasted wonderful. Come to Fishbone's and try the rolls! read more

I had the perch since a local had mentioned perch was a local fish. It was ok. Well prepared, however as a New Orleans resident I wish I could tell Detroiters that there are other seasonings than salt and pepper. The fish could use a little more "umph". Yelp indicated that the restaurant closed at 2 am but it actually closed at 11. We were lucky to get in at 10:30 during the summer. My review is based off of the room service they provide for the adjacent hotel, the Atheneum, where we recently stayed for our anniversary. It was not a good experience. 1) It arrived lukewarm at best 2) There was only one coffee mug 3) They forgot the syrup for French toast 4) There was no toast The man who delivered it promised to return with an extra mug and syrup. He did. 25 minutes later. And was completely unapologetic because "he had other things to do." I'm not super picky but for $47, I do not want to eat a cold breakfast alone. We did call room service to complain (in a nice way) and the lady hung up on my husband. Gloves OFF. So we mentioned the situation at check out, and were directed to speak with Julie, the manager at Fishbones. Let me tell you who did not care. Julie. My first time here we tried a plethora of food. Seriously we ordered way too much. For appetizers, we had alligator voodoo bites and Thibodeaux wings (sweet & sticky and hot & spicy). They were delicious and we'd order them again. For entrees, we had pasta Orleans and a shrimp po-boy. These were great choices also. As if we didn't have enough already; we ordered sushi rolls. Another seafood restaurant right in the heart of the Motor City with a southern influence and now, with a foreign twist! Fishbones is right on Monroe Street, which is Greek Town and leads into the relatively new Greektown Hotel and Casino. It serves mainly Louisianna styled seafood, with some Cajun specialties like Gumbo, Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole and the like. However, with the popularity of Japanese Sushi, believe it or now it has a full size U-shaped sushi bar with 2 Asians working the knives and rice, and offering Nigiri to Sashimi to Watchamacallit Rolls. It had a steady crowd of people later on a Sunday night, perhaps vactioners enjoying their long weekend near the Casino 2 blocks away. Out party of 4 started with BBQ Shrimp, which were grilled and floating in a smokey barbecue and olive oil sauce with spices. They were very good! We also had half a dozen oysters on the half shell, freshly shucked, which were decent. A cup of Gumbo was thick and almost gravy like, but spicy and hearty with shrimps, sausage slices and rice. We had two orders of Jambalaya, which were very filling, again with shrimp, sausage and rice, in a spicy tomato sauce. The thifd entree was a New Orleans Shrimp, which was a rich Alfredo and cheese like-sauce with fettuccini, shrimp, mushrooms and parmesan. I tried the Ikura (Salmon Roe) sushi just tro try it, and it wasn't bad, surprisingly! All the nigiri are priced per pieces, mostly in the $$2.75 - 3.00 range (equivalent to $5.50 - $6 in most sushi restaurants for 2 pieces) Tracy our server gave reliable service, and kept us going with warm rolls and herbal butter. Fishbones has a very large adult beverage menu, mainly specializing in mixed cocktails and martinis, although the martini's are not anywhere near traditional, and more resembling college-aged tropical liquor flavored concoctions with vodka. The Jamabalaya was $17, the Gumbo $5, so the prices are pretty reasonable. The atmosphere is nice, and the service good. Next time you want some Bayou seafood and spicy flavors, or even some sushi, you might try Fishbones. read more

This is actually a letter I wrote to Fishbone's Corporate: To whom it may concern, First, I am surprised that among the many reasons listed to write a letter to corporate, the one I am writing about is not listed-customer comments! The good news is, I am not writing in regards to a poor experience, I am writing about a GREAT ONE. A few weeks back, I traveled to Michigan to have my bachelor party with friends and family. We rented a room at Greektown, and decided semi-last minute to have dinner at your restaurant. Party of 16, no problems. We arrived about ten minutes late, however our tables were still being held. At that point we met our server, Jaquita. I feel that no matter what I write here, it will still not fully commend her for how great of a job she did. She was funny, attentive, helpful, funny, thorough, and did I mention funny? With 16 guys drinking, asking for special orders, separate checks, and all in all being 16 guys, she took it all in stride with a smile and a great personality. I'm not exaggerating when I say that she set the tone for the night and dumped us out in the streets of downtown in an excellent mood. I probably thanked her a dozen times, gave her a hug and promised her I would write a review and make sure that she gets the accolades she deserves. I have worked as a server before. It's hard work. It's stressful. I know I had large parties on a busy night and sometimes they went great, and sometimes they didn't. I always thought of myself as a people person and felt that my attitude and personality had made me a great server. Jaquita left me in the dust. I can honestly say this is the first time I have ever wrote a letter to a restaurant giving praise to a member of their staff, and it might be the last-until I visit Fishbones on my next MI trip and sit in Jaquita's section that is. I can't thank her enough for making our night memorable and special, and I hope that this letter makes it to the right hands and she is commended for her above and beyond effort. Sincerely, Justin M. You have to be kidding! A burger in a seafood restaurant. O.K., explanation. I met up with a supplier before a Red Wings game. We tossed several brews down at the bar and decided to grab a bite before we left for the game and make sure we didn't get (too)drunk. I was going to try the crab cake appetizer but opted for the burger instead. It was a really good burger to my surprise. I savored every bite. It was cooked perfectly how I requested, hot, juicy, fresh bun, my favorite toppings. Chase it down with a few more brews and I am ready to get roudy for the game! Food was good but the waiter tried to scam us.. we called him out after he split our bill and added gratuity to all of our tabs without letting us know. He didn't even mention it when we were all tipping him as we turned in our individual tabs.. once someone noticed and we asked him he went completely silent and brought back the money. After some so-so experiences (but not bad enough to keep me away) at the Southfield location, we decided to try the downtown location with family that was in town for a Tigers game. The food was terrible. My husband's steak was crusted with some sort of chunky seasoning and grossly salty. The fries were good, so at least he had something to eat. My crabcake was tiny, flat, burnt, and really gooey/liquidy on the inside. Drinks took a while to get, with one person at our table waiting over 30 minutes for a glass of wine after ordering it. The person who ordered sushi never got the soy sauce cup or chopsticks, because they were put underneath the rim of another larger plate at the other end of our table of people. We discovered them after the waiter started clearing dishes, so, a little too late. The place was busy, but not at capacity by any means so I have no idea what was going on. The kicker was one the way out. My husband stopped to use the restroom, so I stopped to wait near the bar. I have a large purse, and I set it on a chair. A male bartender asked if I needed anything, and I politely declined, explaining that we were on our way out. He said to flag him down if I changed my mind, and that he would be at the other end of the bar (where the patrons were, the end where I was standing was empty). The female bartender was standing behind him and after he walked away came up to me, popped her hip out and put her hand on her hip and said in as rude/sassy of a tone that I think she could "Excuse me, but the bar is not your wait stand." So Fishbones, I guess I should say thanks for not literally letting the door hit me in the behind on the way out. After spending $100+ for a crappy dinner for two, what I really wanted was to be treated like dirt and told I'm no longer welcome after my credit card payment clears. read more

I like Fishbone's, I don't like Fishbone's. I like Fishbone's, I don't like Fishbone's. It's been the same cycle for me for the last few years. This Detroit Greektown institution has the right things going for it, but struggles on consistency. It has some items on the menu that are prepared very well, others that are not. Personally, I think they make a VERY good, very interesting Lamb Burger, but I've never been a huge fan of their so-called Cajun food, which I believe isn't all that authentic. I like the no-frills, come as you are attitude, I don't like the mo-frills pricing and occasional lapses in service. I like that the sushi bar has always been fresh, clean and very good. I don't like funny fish-tank smell that certain parts of the dining room have. I like that their drinks are usually strong and well made. I don't like the feeling that I'm at a Joe's Crab Shack when I look at the decor. I like their lunches are usually pretty filling, I don't like that what I usually rate a Cajun place by (the Gumbo) is probably the worst tasting thing I've ordered. I like the large selection. I don't like the inconsistency. I want to love Fishbone's. I want to hate Fishbone's. Damn you Fishbone's. I can't quit you because you occasionally rock my world. If you'd just clean up your act, I know we'd be happy together. read more

Yesterday I dined at Fishbone's for dinner. It had been a long while since I had set foot in this Greektown staple and since a coworker/friend had offered dinner on his casino comps, how could I resist? After walking into the restaurant I was so confused. I guess when I reconsidered how long it had been since I was there last and I came up with 9 years. What I had remembered about dining at Fishbone's was a basic pasta dish with vegetables as the Vegetarian option that wasn't a salad. Reading the description on the website prior to my visit it appeared as if the dish had slightly changed to including pesto in the description--I suppose a lot can happen in 9 years. Hell, that's almost the same time as the entire duration of Friends, I suppose it's not unbelievable that a little basil magic could be added. I did order the Pasta Orléans with Vegetables as my entrée. As an appetizer the Hell Fire Saganaki was ordered (your basic fromage flombé but made with Pepperjack instead of goat for an extra cajun kick) and these catfish beignets which looked like catfish McNuggets. I didn't try the catfish because I generally don't eat fish as part of my non-consumption of meat (though I will make exceptions that I will guiltily admit for Caesar salad or the occasional crab rangoon--it's mostly cream cheese anyway.) My dining companions had the pistachio encrusted chicken which was served with broccoli and potatoes. My food actually was quite good. I think it was still a little pricey for a pasta dish without a salad but Fishbone's is generally conceived as a little classier, right? That, and it's in Greektown, where it seems everything is just slightly more expensive than it would be four streets over. The rolls that were served were kind of amazing. Actually, it was the butter that made them--like a so-so actor with an amazing agent. It was herbed and fluffy perfection. I finished my bowl of pasta--even the little tomatoes that usually aren't my scene and was quite content. My fellow diners both ate half of the chicken presented--it was two very large breasts--which I guess is only normal they would be served as a pair, especially this close to Bouzouki. Our next mission was dessert, which normally I think I would have passed on but since it was being covered I extended my stain in gluttontown. Won't you take me to gluttontown? I ordered the bread pudding which was huge and delicious. It probably wasn't the best choice after a filling meal because it felt like a meal in itself but I have no regrets; a good bread pudding is hard to find. It was almost like a muffin of apples, raisins, and nuts topped with magic sauce and pecans. The decor was pretty standard for a downtown restaurant though they have a couple large saltwater fish tanks. I thought there was a waterfall inside the restaurant and was pleased to locate where it was but there was no running water happening. . . maybe it's seasonal? Our service was okay. She was new (three weeks) and mispronounced things like Cream Brulée as opposed to Crème Brulée as it should be known and called. I don't get how others don't get excited about fun words and accents! I even went out of my way to inflect Orléan in my pasta order because I enjoy using the French I studied for 5 years. She also held the saganaki dangerously close to her face so I guess I can cut her some slack. If you have comps go and enjoy your meal. If you like seafood/sushi/cajun cuisine, I say, eat on! And if you find yourself in Greektown and not wanting Greek it might be right up your Trapper's Alley. Expect to pay more than you would at Red Lobster for a product that I would wager is pretty close in quality. For parking: Park for free at the structure that has the double helix of death entrance--the one by the corner of Lafayette and the freeway. The one yonder Fishbone's doesn't validate anymore. This place has gone way down hill. I have been here twice in the past 90 days for work dinners and BOTH times we were disappointed. Our tab was well over $500 and when I called to stress my concern about the food and service - I was offered a free appetizer next visit. That told me how they just...do....not....get it. This last visit on Monday was a variety appetizer that was fried in old oil as the pieces were dark brown and lacked fresh taste. The sushi was below average and one person would not even touch the whitefish. The manager came over and nodded his head and then walked away. Stay away. I liked the Cajun pasta I ordered. It was just what I expected, but that was all. There were no frills, nothing special, just pasta. My best friend ordered salmon, and was really happy, but I really felt like we were overpaying. The service was good and the Tiramisu dessert was definitely the highlight of the night. It came in a huge glass and we were pretty much battling over who could get the most the fastest, haha. There were also very yummy chocolate curls on top that made it look as expensive as it was ;) Overall, I would rather spend my money elsewhere and get unforgettable food. It has been years since we tried Fishbones. Now I remember why. Today my wife and I decided to stop in their Greektown location for dinner. I ordered the seafood gumbo and the crab cakes. My wife had a Caesar salad and filet mignon. Let's start with my order. The gumbo was actually decent. Nothing to write home about, but acceptable. However, the crab cakes were atrocious. I asked prior to ordering about the amount of filler used as well as whether the crab was fresh or frozen. What was served was more akin to wallpaper paste than crab cakes. They were mushy and had absolutely no lumps of crab. Just a few very small random pieces. I would guess that the composition was 80% filler to crab ratio. The menu states that they use lump crab. Nevertheless, as already stated, the 20% that was crab was not lump. It was more like minuscule crab scraps. My wife's salad was acceptable with exception given to quite a few brown pieces of lettuce. Unfortunately, the Caesar dressing was one of the highlights of the meal. The biggest letdown of the whole meal was my wife's filet. It was dry, stringy and had an off taste. Her description was that it reminded her of a hospital version of filet mignon. She commented that it tasted like it was precooked and then microwaved just before being served. While we didn't expect Mario's Or Morton's quality, we did expect better that what was served. My wife only ate three bites of the steak and only one bite of the side dishes that came with her steak as they were equally unappealing. When asked how our meal was my wife politely tried to tell the waitress that the steak was horrible. The waitress then proceeded to cut her off and took the plate away. She returned to tell us that they normally don't take unacceptable food off the bill. Actually, we never even asked for that, but did expect it as proper customer service. I was shocked that the manager never came over to apologize. Actually, no one acted as if they cared about our dining experience. Oh well, it was only one meal and hopefully our experience can help someone else avoid a bad night out. read more

Fabulous Cajun inspired restaurant. Having lived in Louisiana for a few years, I always am leery to try Cajun influenced restaurants as they never live up to the real deal. I must say that my jambalaya was pretty delicious with it's spicy tomato sauce. Incredibly filling as the portion was really large. Pasta New Orleans was super tasty with glazed creamy pesto sauce, over fettuccine noodles, veggies, and seafood. You could add Cajun spice if you wanted to the pasta as well. Really wish I had leftovers for the next day. And no Cajun inspired seafood dinner would be complete without a Hurricane. Excellent job bartender making a smooth drink with quite the punch. People told me that the sushi was a must try at this restaurant, so I ordered the sushi boat as an appetizer and found it to be mediocre. Sadly there wasn't any room for dessert but friends of mine ordered a strawberry chocolate moose that was to die for! Wonderful service, quaint setting with a classy touch. I don't know what it is, but I always step in here when it's damn near empty. Nevertheless, each time I've been here I haven't been disappointed. The first time, I decided to go out on a limb and taste the alligator bites, which is exactly what it sounds like: alligator nuggets. If you're apprehensive about trying new things, leave that at the door; the menu is comprised of everything a Cajun man would consider home cooking. I can honestly say it is because of Fishbone's that I am officially a fan of cajun food. It's close to the casino and and almost everything on the menu is something familiar with a southern-New Orleans twist. Stay away! Last night some friends and I went to Fishbones to have a good time. We recently moved to San Antonio and came back to visit. The atmosphere was nice but the wait was long for a seat. Once we say down it took a while to get our drinks. I ordered the Seafood Gumbo and it was more like tiny shrimp in brown gravy. I ate it but would not order it again for sure. When our plates came my snapper was cold. I mentioned this to the waitress and her response was "Would you like me to microwave it?" Really?? A high end restaurant that remedies a $30 fish with a microwave? I told her that was unacceptable and I wanted a newly prepared fish. She brought back the same fish and it had been microwaved!! Come on?!? The manager came and offered to remake the whole dish. It came and was hot but lack-luster. The vegetables were amazing but the rest of the meal was forgettable. In the end, there was not offer to reduce the bill or even a complimentary dessert. After the tip the bill was over $100. Not too outrageous but for the quality. To sum it up, I'd say Fishbones in the Denny's of seafood with outrageous prices. read more

Ok so here I am in Detroit this week on biz and I walk around Greektown locate some tasty treats. I see the nice glittering sign for Fishbone's and initially think that this is a local joint.....NOPE. Place totally has the feel of a chain, so I was hungry and I belly up to the bar. Figure I'd give it a try. The waitress who greets me looks like she's still in high school and couldn't be bothered and could just as soon serve me as toss a plate at my head. In actuality, I dug her attitude and she was very efficient. I had the NY Strip with the roasted potatos and green beans. NOT BAD AT ALL. I was sort of expecting a train wreck and got my expectation turned on its ear. The beans were crispy and the spuds were nicely seasoned, and the steak was a perfect medium. Let me channel Yoda and say "Stunned, I was". One interesting tidbit, when you order a steak here there is a disclaimer on the menu that says, and I'm paraphasing "If you order a steak medium or medium well, the steak will come out butterfly cut". I'm presuming they've done this because of a lawsuit where someone didn't get a cooked to their liking?? It was amusing and the steak didn't come out butterflied......thankfully. read more

I've eaten sushi here a few times, its always been perfectly fine. But last week I met up with a friend and we sat at the sushi bar for lunch. We each ordered 2 rolls, we were the only people at the sushi bar. It was amazing. We watched them make our food, then each of the chefs made us a fruit sushi roll. One was a cucumber roll with mango and who knows what else inside. The other was pineapple, banana wrapped in rice covered in strawberries and honey. I stumbled upon Fishbone's for lunch when in Detroit for a convention. Looked great from the street. The menu was rather overwhelming - there is everything from Cajun food to Sushi. I ended up with the lamb burger - which was good.. Service was average, my water glass was empty for the majority of my meal. Would I rush back? Probably not. read more

The positive: service was excellent, much kudos to our server Christian. He was attentive, friendly, genuine and thoughtful. Ambiance and decor is ok for such a big restraunt but nothing memorable. The negative: Drinks - did'nt fancy any coktails on the menu so played it safe with a spiced rum and ginger with plenty of lime. The drink had way too much ginger ale for my tatse and i got a small dry piece of lime. Food - Its a huge menu and very diverse so i lowered my expectations immediately. In my experience its just too hard for a restraunt to maintain quality with such a big menu, plus I find it hard to decide. For that reason my wife and I decide to play it safe and ordered some starters and small items We ordered the following: Crab cakes - the best thing we had but thats not saying much, they were bland, sauce was so so and the salad was slightly brown and wilted. $16 for 2 small crab cakes was very poor value. Crawfish boil - lots of crawfish however they did not taste fresh and the sauce was spicy but flavorless. It was a very very messy however our server did inform us of this so thats fair enough - just beware you'll look like you've been in a food fight when you've finished. Veg spring rolls - 3 medium size rolls, hardly any filling and really greasy. I felt like i paid $9 for 3 pieces of deep fried batter. The worst item we tried. Gumbo ya ya - very thick and gloopy, like a thick sauce poured over boiled rice. Could have been from a can - seriously. Caprese salad - tomatoes were dry and flavorless, mozzerella was flavorless, balsamic was strangely thick and way too sweet, basil did not look fresh. In summary, the food is $ at $$$ prices. On Saturday, April 29, 2023, my dad and I visited Fishbones in Downtown Detroit, where we told by management prior to arriving, that they could accommodate our reservation and we would need to place a deposit to secure the spot. My dad and I assured her we would be there early the next day. Upon arriving, an older gentleman who may have also been a manager as well approached us asking if we needed help. When we explained why we were there, he immediately went to get Julia Wolfdurham, the supposed General Manager, who pretty much treated us like peasants beneath her instead of valuable customers who have been dining for years! She was not apologetic, remorseful, or even made an attempt to try to be helpful due to the fact that two previous conversations were had with staff and management as well as an email sent directly to her! She made it like we were making it all up and even started to walk away from us as we were still talking to her! Rude and unprofessional isn't even the words but it was definitely at its best if I'd ever experienced it! Being a business owner myself, I would be utterly disappointed if my GM were making my customers feel the way my father and I felt standing there! However even through all the disrespect and frustration, I am happy to say we were able to find a REAL professional General Manager who knows how to handle his customers and their concerns as well as treat people with dignity and respect! He happily booked my mom's birthday dinner! I feel sad for this location and its business owner if this is how she consistently mistreat customers and make them feel! We were made to feel as we were an interruption and bother to her! I heard about this place in the news - I wasn't working at the time, so there was a lot of TV happening. My first thought when looking over the menu form the safety of my couch through the internets was "WTF - how is this a jazz kitchen with sushi?!" There is one in Southfield that we went to once. We ordered a normal jazz kitchen type dinner, it was decent. I'm a little hesitant to try to majority of the Cajun food because I grew up with it, and its hard to beat moms cooking. But I keep going back to the Greektown location because of the sushi! I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to sushi - but the sushi at this Fishbones is great. The service as always been good. The only thing that irks me is that you don't order from the sushi chef while sitting at the sushi bar. read more

Convenient central location in Detroit near a lot of venues and tourist attractions. Big space and tables, good choice for family. Big portions too with lots of protein options. Kitchen likes the salt. Staff is friendly and honest - I did the math wrong on my bill but they only charged me for what I actually meant to pay! read more

I would have given zero stars but it's not an option. I frequent Fishbones St. Clair at least once per week. However, my experience today ensured that I will never be back. It's a random Wednesday & I come in for 1 sushi roll. Yes just 1! 45 minutes later I still do not have my roll. No one came to tell me, "Hey ma'am there is a large order in front of you so you more than likely won't get your roll until next week." Nope! The bartender & manager just left me sitting, waiting on my roll...that I never got! Funny part...the manager finally makes his way to me after my request & tells me aside from it being a large order ahead of mine, Fishbones creates each sushi roll like a piece of art. I've been here twice in the past two weeks. First time was on a Wednesday after an event, and the place was dead. Service was fast, food was great, and the experience was enjoyable. I stuck with their sushi menu while my dining partner had one of their seafood pasta dishes -- both of our entrees were great. Second experience was after a Tiger's game. The wait was 35 minutes or more, and it seemed like the line was disorganized -- no waiting list or anything, more of a first come first serve (or first to the table claims it). Our party actually found 5 open chairs at the bar and were able to order food and drinks there, and the food was still superb, but I'd much rather revisit Fishbone's when it isn't as crowded. The sushi menu is amazing, as is their drink menu. I'll definitely come back to Fishbone's and recommend it to anyone, maybe just avoid the entire area after a sporting event. read more

Was in the D for a concert and decided to stop in around Greektown for a bite and a nightcap. Glad I did. The service - immpecable. I sat at the bar and the ladies were very accommodating and checked on me . I ordered a double Jack Daniels with a water back and crawfish ettouffe. The food - outstanding . I can't get good Creole cooking a lot; this place serves it up in style. If ever in Greektown again , I will hunt this spot down again. KUDOS! read more

The saving grace for dishing out 2 stars instead of 1 was the service. Our server was very friendly and very attentive to our needs. That's pretty much the extent of the positive things I have to say about Fishbone's... The food was not very good. My colleague and I started with a couple of appetizers: the tuna sushi/sashi and the catfish beignets. The tuna looked very dark indicating that it likely wasn't fresh. It didn't taste very fresh either. The catfish beignets were pretty decent, but tasted like something you could get in the freezer section at the grocery store. For entrees, I ordered the half chicken/half rack of ribs. The ribs came off the bone with ease but the meat lacked flavored and the bbq sauce wasn't very good. The chicken was decent, but was covered in the same sauce. Needless to say, I didn't finish my entree. My colleague ordered the tuna steak. I tried not to laugh when it came out because it looked like a large TV dinner--very, very basic. He said that it tasted pretty terrible, but I can't attest to his statement since I didn't try it, though he also did not finish his meal if that is any indication. I'm not being facetious when I say that the highlight of my meal was the house rolls, which came out steaming hot with a side of garlic butter.
