I contact Frosty's when my furnace was cutting off mid-cycle. The technician arrived at the beginning of the allotted appointment window and was able to diagnose the issue quite quickly. Later that day they presented me with two pricing options. When I wasn't able to respond back they made follow-up calls the next day. I picked an option late that night and responded through email. They called me early the next morning and had a technician out that same morning to make the repair which took less than an hour. Their technicians were very friendly and personable. I was hoping that the diagnostic service fee would be rolled into the bill for the repair work but it was not. We did pay to have another company give us a second opinion as well as an estimate for repair work. Their price quote was nearly the same but their technicians were not as friendly and kept trying to up-sell work. Overall very satisfied with the repairs. Everything is working well and I would use Frosty's again. read more

I first used Frosty's almost ten years ago, after having a bad experience with a different A/C contractor. They installed a top-of-the-line Trane system for me. Over the years I have learned to rely on Frosty's for maintenance and to address small issues when they do arise. I believe that Jim, the owner, is a fair man and tries his hardest to operate his business with integrity. There are many A/C companies out there that tell outright lies and deceive their customers. Frosty's is NOT one of those companies. They are honest, straightforward, and fair. If and when there have been problems, I have always found that Frosty's is willing to work with you, and if they installed and maintained your system, they will always give you priority service should you encounter any problems. I've been a customer for many years as has my sister so when her furnace went out yesterday afternoon, Frostys was called. There was a glitch with the answering service not forwarding the phone messages but once that was straightened out later in the evening, Andrew arrived, replaced a faulty part and got the heat back on before 9pm. My sister and I will continue to be Frosty customers and I highly recommend them for reliable and good service at a fair price. The tech was good, seemed to know what he was doing and genuinely interested in spending the time and effort to identify the problem - which he did successfully in a single visit. However, they quoted me a ludicrously high price for the repair job (which involved replacing a component in my air handler). When I asked for a breakdown of parts and labor on the job, the rep refuses to provide one and tells me "look, they want to make their money". I quickly found another contractor who did the job for less than half of what Frosty's had quoted me. I don't like when folks try to rip me off to my face, so I won't be using these guys again. If you do use them, beware that they (management, not necessarily the techs) care more about squeezing every dime from the customer today than building long-term, mutually-beneficial relationships. read more

I woke up on Sunday morning to water leaking out from under my HVAC unit. I bought my first condo a couple months ago and am not an HVAC expert. So, I shut the system off, looked at the unit and noticed that Frosty's had been performing maintenance on it for several years. I thought if the previous owner continued to use them, they must be ok and called the number listed on the unit. I described the problem to a Frosty's technician and he said this could be a big problem so I agreed to pay Sunday rates even though it was $100 higher for the visit. The technician came, was cordial, and explained what he needed to do and gave me a quote of $1,200. I told him that sounded really high and asked if that was competitive pricing. He said yes, though having it done on Sunday would cost me a little over $200 more. Given the issue he described, I didn't feel like I had much choice. He did the repair, which ended up costing over $1,500 and left. I called my parents afterwards and they told me the price I just paid was astronomically more expensive than what they had paid for a similar service. The refrigerant Frosty's added to my HVAC costs less than $100 but they charged me $750. I also paid $200 for de-icing which involved the technician turning on my heat and waiting 15 minutes for the excess fluid to drip into a pan. I understand paying more for service on a Sunday but the technician was at my condo for less than 1 hour so I paid more than $1,000 for his hour of labor. My father did speak with Frosty's and they agreed to bring the price down to $1,200. But, be aware of their pricing, especially their labor cost, before you consider using this company, especially if you are a single woman. In the future I will be a wiser consumer and cost compare and not assume every issue must be fixed immediately. read more

These guys just want to sell you a new unit. I called them out to check my A/C and within 15min the guy said there was a leak in the line and it would be necessary to replace the whole unit because its so old. That was going to cost over $7500 plus the service call!! I called another company and the guy took his time looking at my old unit and found the leak. He fixed it and filled the unit with refrigerant. Problem solved. Work guaranteed. I would never recomend Frosty Heating and Cooling. What a ripoff! read more

Would highly recommend. My tech Thea was knowledgeable and took the time to explain/show everything to me. I originally had a company come out that was recommended by my home warranty company that quoted me $2000 for a job that Frosty's did for a fraction of the price. There are lots of shady contractors out there--Frosty's is not one of them! Service call was $100, but definitely worth it given the couple thousand saved. Frosty's installed our boiler in January 2015 before we purchased the house. Two years later the boiler stopped working so we called Frosty's expecting that they would be experts in the boilers they installed. The appointment was scheduled easy enough and the tech came out when he should have, only problem was that he spent 3 hours tinkering with the boiler without being able to identify the problem. Additionally he didn't offer me any other options for resolution, he told me he didn't know what was wrong with it and I was left with the impression I'd have to call in another service company. I told the tech that I was disappointed to have to pay for a service call with no resolution and he apologized but still needed to be paid before he could leave. I asked for him to have a manager call me to discuss my displeasure and to escalate the issue so we could have heat and he said he would do that. Manager never called. I ended up calling a commercial HVAC distributor who sells the types of boilers Frosty's installs and a sympathetic person referred me to another HVAC company (Doug at Seasons) who solved the problem in 30 minutes. read more

Called today with an AC issue (wasn't cooling). Brief telephone conversation about what was going on, they asked if between 2 and 6 was ok... but when I explained I had to be somewhere at 6, they said they'd check with techs and see what they could do. They called me back and said someone would be by between 2-4. This was around 12:30 or 1. About a half hour later, someone was here. A manager. Less than an hour later.. my AC was running, he had given me some good tips, checked some common maintenance things, and it was a more than reasonable price. We did not end up using Frosty's services, and I will explain why below. Frosty's is the contractor used by our property management company for HVAC needs. When our tenants contact the property manager about the A/C not working, we received a quote stating that we would need to spend $2,000 for parts and labor to repair a problem that was not clearly identified ("the initial installation was sloppy") or we could replace the compressor in full for $3,500. Additionally, an unidentified leak was mentioned, implying that we would need to spend an additional amount to address that potential problem. We had replaced the entire HVAC unit three years ago and it was still under warranty. There was no detailed provided in terms of what exactly needed to be done, which parts were to be replaced, or what he related labor charges were expected to be. Given that the contractor we used install the unit has done work for two other family members, who have not had any issues with their units, we were inclined to have him visit our condo and get a second opinion. He recharged the freon, checked the pressure of the compressor and found that it was sufficient to cool the condo. Instead, he diagnosed a problem with the set up of the power source, which was shared with the main power for the condo, and wasn't properly protected from the elements on the roof. We ended up spending a total of $600 to address the problem. What left us with a feeling of dissatisfaction was that we could have spent $2,000-$3,500 to repair or replace a compressor that was not even the problem, and then would have continued having issues with the A/C, given that the electrical system was what needed work. It did not seem like Frosty's was accurate in its diagnosis, whether due to technical capacity or because the company wished to get us to spend money on unneeded repairs. I would recommend getting several quotes for the services provided by the company. read more

In 2019, we hired Frosty's to install a Mitsubishi mini split system for our upstairs and downstairs row house. The system was expensive but we were relieved to get a 10 year warranty. Initially the service was great and for that first year. Our system was running smoothly. In 2020, we started to have some problems with the units (we have 3 units -- one downstairs and two in each bedroom upstairs) particularly with the unit downstairs. It would read P5 and shut off. Frosty's initially said we had a leak in our system so in 2020, so we paid them to do a link search. They said they found it and sealed it. In 2021, the system didn't turn on when the weather changed. They said it was out of freon even though the link was to be fixed. We had to pay for another leak search and they said they really found the leak this time and it was sealed. The next day we got a P5 error and the unit downstairs shut off. A few days later they came back out and said that it could be a pump issue or that the unit out back was dirty so they cleaned it and we ordered a pump (more money). Miraculously the P5 went away and we were okay for the rest of 2021. Now, this year, we turn on the units and just like in 2021 it's blowing warm air and then shuts off. They came out saying that the freon was low even though it was filled towards the end of the season last year. So we had to pay again to fill it. The saving grace was that we paid for a pump that we didn't use so we only had to pay the difference. If not, it would've been another 600+ dollars for a third year in a row. After filling up the freon. A few days later we got P5 again! Because the issue keeps happening the Frosty's technician suggested that he bring a Mitsubishi rep with them. I was told it would be a few days but it ended up taking 3 weeks after leaving numerous messages for them come back with the Mitsubishi rep. They were at our house all day and said they might have a solution. The technician and the Mitsubishi rep said we would contact us with a solution by the end of that same week -- that was July 13 and today is August 4. My husband and I have made at least 10 calls to Frosty's over the last 3 weeks. No one has gotten back to us. The people who answer keep saying they will relay the message to "James" and "all they can do is relay the message." I even asked one person if it was intentional and if we need to find a new company and she said "if that's what I want to do." We've given this company at least $15K over the last 3 years and now they won't return our calls to fix our issue. My husband and I have been without air for over 3 weeks in a heat wave. I never leave reviews. But before writing this one, I called again (for the 11th time possibly) and I was told they would relay the message to the owner James. At this point, I don't expect a call from James. I'm so pissed by the lack of communication and unprofessionalism by whoever the leadership is at Frosty's. If they don't know how to fix our unit issue, they should just say so instead of avoiding a customer! read more

I contacted Frosty's Heating & Cooling earlier this month regarding an issue I was having with my furnace. The furnace was turning off randomly and we had a single CO alert in our kitchen. This single CO alert scared us, just as it would any family so we immediately contacted HVAC companies to come out and take a look. Frosty's dispatched Richard and he arrived on-time and immediately began diagnosing our issue. No CO was detected anywhere in the home except for the flue pipe while Richard was here and no alerts have been tripped since Richard left. However, I was told by Richard that it was time to replace my entire furnace with a new one due to age, some scorching on the heat exchanger, and the old ignitors that may fail. Also, after Richard pulled the flue pipe out from the wall some the unit did turn off a few other times, so he didn't even fix the issue with our old system. Since this is a huge purchase for any family, I of course contacted another HVAC specialist for a second opinion. While this technician shared some of Richard's opinions about the heat exchanger and its age, he did not share Richard's opinion that the furnace needed to be replaced. He diagnosed the issue as an old air filter not allowing enough air to enter the furnace through the return to properly cool the furnace and vent gases out of it. After I replaced the $15 filter I haven't had a single issue with our HVAC system. On the plus side, the other technician didn't even charge us while Frosty's did charge us their $115 fee and didn't even catch the clogged the air filter which fixed our entire problem. If you go with Frosty's and they suggest you replace anything, please request a second opinion from another company. After this event with Frosty's I will not use or recommend them in the future. read more

Had trouble with my HVAC unit because it would not blow cool air when turned on. The guy kept saying I should get a new unit (current one is only 8 years old) and quoted me $7,000- $9,000! For a 800sq ft condo with easy access to the unit out back. Very disappointed since it seems like most people had positive experiences. I feel like he tried to take advantage of me since I am a young female living alone. Luckily I have family in the HVAC business, called them to get their opinion and they told me to show that guy the door because he was definitely over pricing me. Charged me $100 for labor to put a few screws in the plate that covers the coil. read more

I called this company because my air conditioner went out on a weekend and I couldn't find anyone else to come out. The guy who came couldn't have been nicer. He fixed my unit and it worked great...for two days. It went out again...he returned and made some adjustments...worked ok then too. BUT...a week later, it went AGAIN!! I called someone else who came recommended by a neighbor. This repairman told me that all of my refrigeration had leaked because of two loose bolts. Now, I can't prove anything, but the repairman from Frosty's had filled up the refrig. and worked in the same area as the loose bolts. The second company even charged me less than Frosty's had (minus the weekend rate). I later found out that a neighbor who used Frosty's had had a similar experience with them. Nice guy who came, but not confident now in their service. I wouldn't recommend them. read more

This is the first time I've ever felt the need to post an online review of a service provider. Unfortuantely, I've experienced many of the same headaches reviewers have noted in earlier posts. From the owner on down, the company does an extremely poor job communicating with customers, scheduling repairs and getting needed parts from suppliers. We ended up being without air conditioning for 25 days, starting in late May. One of the parts they had to replace was installed 12 months ago and damaged during the repairs. At no time were they actually able to track my parts shipments. Sadly, I too, had a terrible experience with Sue who left harassing vmails on my cell phone, referenced conversations that never took place, and actually cursed at me on more than one occasion. After countless emails and calls, and a threat to go to the BBB, the issue was resolved on day 25, which was a Saturday. I guess this is outside their normal working hours so after the repairs were completed, I received an email lecture from the owner telling me how he and his team went to extraordinary lengths to make me happy by working on a Saturday. The only bright spot was the two technicians who made the final repairs. They did a great job and were respectful and thorough. If I could given negative stars, I'd do it. read more

What an amazing company. I had the absolute fortune to be helped my an amazing young lady named Cat, who helped schedule my appointment when I was available . She turned a very stressful situation into the most easy and efficient process. The tech arrived promptly and was super nice. I have two large breed dogs and he wasn't fazed. He was very friendly to them and understood they are just big , not scary. The tech asked a few questions and in no time he had my AC up and running . As new home owners we were unsure what to do when our heat pump was not functioning properly. We had heard of Frosty's from when we rented and we trusted them to assess our unit and fix it properly. They originally told us we had a power surge and they reset the breaker in our home. They then ran diagnostic testing and told us we had a part that needed replaced based on their testing. We were unsure if we wanted to work with them but they lowered their original quote and as new home owners we didn't know better. We spent 100 dollars 3 different times during the same work order for them to come to our home in addition to the price of the part that supposedly needed replaced. Not long after the unit stopped running again. They came back out (for another 100 dollars) and said our TXV was bad and needed replaced. They quoted us 1834 dollars. I began to question them since they had just been out and had not told us this originally and I called another company. A few days later the office secretary emailed saying they could lower the price again since they had not heard from us about replacing the part. This definitely sealed the deal for me that this company is dishonest, untrustworthy and completely shady. A few days later Virginia Hvac came out , spent 2 hours helping explain my system to me and said the system is in good shape but that the pressure was entirely too high. They said the system was overcharged by 3.5LB and they asked if we had messed with the system or tried to do anything ourselves. This leads me to believe that Frosty's definitely tampered with our system during their diagnostic testing and shows how unqualified they truly are. He reset the pressure and everything runs perfectly now. I have never been more disappointed in a company and I would warn anyone considering using them. I have been a Frosty's customer since 2004 and have been consistently happy with their service. Their service technicians are always very courteous and show up when they say they're going to. Really some of the best service providers I've ever dealt with in any profession! Recently had a minor billing mistake/question that was dealt with promptly by the ownership. The only problem I've ever had us that there can sometimes be a bit of a wait to get a service appointment. But, that's what happens when a company is successful, I suppose. Thanks to Frosty's for recently installing a supplemental Mitsubishi heating/cooling system in my basement. I shopped it around with several established contractors and their pricing was very competitive. The technician was great he was totally patient with my high energy dog playing fetch with him in the backyard when he was working outside. I was impressed when the tech hit an obstacle with the install due to the age of my home and instead of just forcing the fit he called the owner to make a recommendation and Frosty himself came out to lend a hand. Had a problem with an installed thermostat (purchased one week earlier through them that was under warranty) that had a glitch. They won't replace it because I can't "prove" the problem. Save yourself their obscene mark up and buy the thermostat on you own since they don't fight for you as a customer with Honeywell on bum parts. Scheduling for a fully warranty-covered part replacement with Frosty's was very straightforward and helpful. Other than that, I am here not to critique, but to provide information for interested parties about a how it was I received in the end a $650 total bill on a repair that required no parts (the manufacturer had to supply via warranty) and only took one hour to install. I understood I was responsible for processing and shipping charges. Yet, I had already paid them $319 dollars for the troubleshooting call and the deposit on the part shipping. Even still, If it was reasonably $100 for processing and shipping on the part, Frosty's charges, then, by my example, over 500/per hour labor. The invoice provided NO breakdown or justifications of what those labor costs were in the end, simply a $522 dollar charge for an hour of one service technician, on what by any standard, was among the easiest and simplest types of part replacements. If you're comfortable with that, by all means give them a call. I'll be going elsewhere for the regular service I was looking for. To add insult to injury, when handing me the $600 bill, they promptly tried to upsell me on a refresh to my refrigerant (which I did need) to the tune of $699, but were generously offering to give me a 10% break on, that day only. As a current apartment renter, I rarely have the opportunity to write such reviews, but wanted to take the time to do so as Frosty's Heating and Cooling provides exemplary service. While living in a house in Fairlington, my heat stopped working one winter (right before Snowmaggedon). Not knowing who to contact, I was reminded of the Frosty's trucks I'd seen around the neighborhood and decided to give them a call. Being the middle of winter, I naturally worried that they would be swamped with others who were having similar problems, but was relieved when they promised same day service! Not only were they able to come early in the window of time quoted, but the service tech quickly assessed the problem, explained it to me, and promptly fixed it.
