This Fry's was once a Smith's and before that, a Smitty's. I have memories as a kid getting lost in the store and having my parents find the store's staff for help. While that was so many years ago, I have found this to be my go-to store off and on for many years. When it became a "Fancy Fry's" a number of years ago, I would frequent this store, and during the pandemic, it was through this location that I first used a curbside pick-up option for groceries. Needless to say, this has become a model store for me, and while I do not always shop at Fry's, when I decide to go to a Fry's, this is the one I typically go to. This location also has a mini Chompies restaurant in place (in the deli area) and wine tastings and cooking classes. I highly recommend everyone to visit it at least once. While I sometimes will stop by this store for garbage bags, toiletries, medication, or greeting cards, I often really only come here for food and drinks. After all, the store is known as Fry's Food (and Drug). I have learned quite well over the years where most items can be found from the typical end-caps to the regular aisles to the seasonal and clearance items to the front-of-store items. My favorite areas are the produce, floral, and Kosher areas. I have found most of my produce to be fresh, and while a bit more expensive than Safeway or other grocery stores, the flowers and plants are quite beautiful. As my wife and I like to food prep for the week, we look at the ads in advance to see what items are on sale or have digital coupons available on the Fry's Food app or website. There are occasional promotions, too; in fact, this past year on a customer appreciation day that was advertised by a news station in advance, the first so many customers received a bag with various items including a coupon envelope with three items. Each store also had so many gift cards randomly distributed in the bags. While I enjoyed a bag, I didn't receive a gift card. I was still delighted to even get anything. I appreciate that Fry's as a company (affiliate of Kroger) does things like this to help customers save money. If you go to their website (https://frysfood.com), you can find digital coupons, the weekly ad, holiday promotions, 4X gift card promotions, meal planning and recipes, a store locator, and Boost membership information (along with other information). Boost is a special membership that includes double fuel points, unlimited free delivery, streaming options (free Disney+ bundle with ads), and member exclusive offers all for $99 per year. If you're already paying for the Disney+ bundle with ads, you may be able to pay a bit less and get Boost for free. While there are many grocery stores in the Phoenix area, the Fry's food stores are special, and if it wasn't for the higher than average prices, I would be going to Fry's for all of my grocery shopping. read more

This has been one of my ftyls for many many years and I've always been pleasantly surprised- Paul really let me down- the manager. couldn't help me with my return. I walked by him in the parking lot, he was smoking a cigarette . I never would've thought he was the manager. When he told me he couldn't help me he smelled very heavily of cigarettes which I'm highly sensitive too. so I just gave back what I was trying to return and said just keep it. I enjoy shopping at Fry's however I believe that there should be courtesy clerks that help bag the groceries for the people that are ringing up the customers and have actual connection with the customers. It's great to have interaction with your customers while purchasing your groceries It's more home spun to at least say hello and how's your day instead of their heads down trying to check you out as fast as they can. If people don't want that then they go through the " check out yourself " line. I'd like to see food in date on the shelf instead of out dated. I've taken several things to customer service that were outdated . Please PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL instead of standing around talking to each other. Also the unkempt many of younger people you hire should be addressed. read more

The price food and drugstore at Tatum and Shea in Paradise Valley is one of the best crème de la crème top line fries. They have going anywhere in the state shop there for many years passed up many fries locations to get there. The bakery is fantastic. The deli is fantastic. The meat department is fantastic. The seafood department is fantastic. They're stocking inventory is great. Their employees used to be 100% that is the only part that's dropped down to about 70% Their goods and services are fantastic. If you could get a hold of a manager, they'll take care of you if there's an issue hard to get a hold of a manager there like I said the only department that fell down slightly would be the people department. read more

Patiently , I awaited the new unveiling of the Fry's wine and beer bar which made grocery shopping not just tolerable but, made it an actual experience... sitting at the local fry's , wine and beer bar made it feel like home, a neighborhood cheers if you will ... greeted by friendly faces , experimenting with new beers and wines that you could purchase in the aisles right next to the bar, Vanessa, creating amazing cheese, dishes and charcuterie, always with lovely suggestions, and a smile on her face, Georgia behind the bar such a lovely fun, uplifting , fantastic person, when it shut down for remodeling, there was a gap, a hole, it had been disappointing, having it closed for 5 months but, we could only imagine how glorious the reveal would be ....but, with the promise of a brand new wine and beer bar, there was hope, and we were all excited. Upon arriving yesterday, the new placement by the very front of the grocery store, had a very austere, cold, vacant, sad feeling, Georgia was no longer there. The comfy seats were gone, the cheese section is now on the other side of the store, I have to say... I truly miss the old wine bar, the amazing folks that ran it, and the wonderful feeling it exuded.. the end of an era , of great customer service, a sense of community, fun , great hospitality and conversations.... This is my favorite Fry's aka the Taj Majal of Frys - so many different options to choose from... Here's just a few unusual perks of this Mondo Ginormous store: * An enormous BOOK section * A CHOMPIES in here! Yes you can get a chocolate babka * Expansive CLOTHING/HOUSEWARES section like dare I say?! A Tarjay * COOKING SCHOOL - currently virtual but soon to be back in person * Drive-thru PHARMACY * FRESH SUSHI BAR - to-go right now, even tho seating area * WINE BAR - not sure if back open yet, but again, probably soon All the sections offer more than the "average" Frys - so yes the bakery, deli, kosher section, etc. give shoppers an epic selection. Everyone who works here is hands down friendly & helpful. My only challenge is that they have some customers (yes way b/f Gov lifted mask mandate on March 24th) who either are not wearing a mask or are wearing them underneath their noses. Stopped here after a car show to grab a few items and it is extremely sad to see and hear how short staffed they are. They had more than enough food stocked up but not enough employees. They are so short staffed that the Deli dept was closed on a Saturday, due to short or no staff at all. Sheesh There was only 1-2ppl working in the meat dept and the poor Fella was working really hard stocking meats, as fast as, he could. I'm not sure what will happen with these jobs all over, that are short staffed, but unless they offer an out of sight hiring package... they appear to be headed downward and we all could be doomed! It's mindboggling to be honest and sad. I didn't even buy much and it cost me$77.00 which is why I'm starting to rethink my eating and considering things like no more meat, only buying rice, beans, potatoes, cereal and milk. Lol It's sad that liquor sales are actually a better deal than food these days.... may even consider a liquor diet. No judgement here, for those who go for the liquor sales instead of the food. This is the kind of place that has a huge selection of everything, but it seems like every time I go here they are out of the one thing I want. For instance, I've been staring at a a blank slot for Lightlife vegan smart bacon for weeks. I went looking for some basic sweat pants and found the exact type that I wanted (actually several options), but they only had sizes XL - XXL. I'm an M. Worst, was on my most recent visit, my car wouldn't start on the way out, so while I was waiting for AAA, I went in to return the frozen food I had just bought so it wouldn't melt. I went to the customer service desk and was told by an employee nearby that the person managing the desk was on break and would be back in 15-20 minutes. I told him my situation and he suggested I put my stuff somewhere to keep it cold or wait for her break to end. I was in shock - only one person in the store could handle returns? Seriously? And I doubted the tow truck driver would want to wait for me to go back in for my frozen food. Oh well, melted ice cream for Christmas is! I know given the date (Christmas week) and all for my most recent visit that I shouldn't expect particularly good service anywhere in retail, but this was particularly bad. read more

FRYS refused my check saying I needed to call Certegy?? I did & was then advised they had refused the check for lack of funds! The check was for $76. There was $4500 in the account?? I am 83 years old and handicapped. I had to stand in line with a cane for support while 2 employees rudely said my check was not good? The call to Certegy also was useless & rude! I spoke to my bank that said my account is & has always been in good standing & there was no reason for my check to be denied! I drove home feeling very ill from the incident. My home, car & everything I have is paid for. I have never had a bounced check & made monthly home payments for over 60 years. I was embarrassed & upset at how I was treated! I did an online "Chat" & was also rudely dismissed!!!! I am now considering a claim for the way I was so rudely treated, humiliated & embarrassed in front of other shoppers in this small Arizona town!! read more

This is for the Chompies inside Fry's if anyone cares. These started popping up a year ago and this was my first try. The sandwiches are smaller, but I waS still stuffed after eating my $9.99 turkey sandwich with thousand island dressing. This was fresh made and included cheese. I also added a 99 cent side of slaw, which was fresh and cold and a good size. A perfectly fine alternative to the bigger Chompies restaurants. read more

I have lived in The same area for 3 1/2 years and 95 % of the time when I order Groceries I use Instacart . Today's delivery was Superior. My Shopper, Paola, is rated The # 1 shopper!! My order was supposed to arrive at 7:25 am. Paola knocked on my door at 6:50 am. She knocked after all items were neatly placed on my doorstep. She carried a 40 count of water up a 15 steps flight to the Second Floor. All my items were delivered. Each bag was strategically packed. Frozen veggies all together. Frozen entrees packed together and so on. The Fee of $99 I pay for delivery is well worth it. My tip was 10%. Paola hustles to earn her $$. Not having to Carry my groceries to my second floor apartment is Preferred; especially when I get such Excellent service from Instacart!! My recommendation is, since it is Costing $5.00 or more for a Gallon of Gas ; Instacart is your BEST OPTION read more

I have to shout out this Fry's location since it has been my go-to grocery store for the past year and a half now. Pre-COVID they always had a great selection inside, especially with the prepared food section/sushi bar/bakery, etc. Fry's also carries Graeter's Ice Cream (thanks to parent company Kroger), which is the only thing I miss from my days living in Ohio. Seriously, it's soooo good and the giant chocolate chunks in their flavors are legendary. If you haven't tried it, I recommend grabbing a pint of Black Raspberry Chip. But anyways.. Now during COVID I have not set foot inside the store in months, but I have utilized their pick-up service weekly. Overall, it's been a good experience and I really do appreciate the associates who load my groceries into the trunk and are so nice while doing so. It makes grabbing food easy and safe as they are always wearing masks and don't come too close to the window when going over substitions, etc. In the past 8 months, I have only had my order delayed a couple of times. When it was, they gave me a call ahead of time and my items were available later in the day. Considering we are all trying to do business in this "new normal" as best we can, I think that's pretty reasonable. Overall, I will continue to shop here regardless of if it's in person or using their pick up service! read more

I went in to the Fry's Signature Marketplace to turn in a "Cooking School" gift certificate. I had tried several times to go to one of the cooking school classes, but they always seemed to have the classes when I was working. I email them on several occasions and got no response. I went in to talk to a manager about the cooking school and was told to send an email. Unfortunately the gift certificate expired and then the school closed down. I was told today that they would give me a $10 dollar gift card to Fry's and not the original $50 value of the gift certificate. It is SAD to say the least that Fry's, a big corporation feels they have to steal money from it's faithful customers. I seriously doubt that I will be shopping in Fry's again. read more

This Fry's is the crème de la crème of grocery stores in the Valley... It's not just a grocery store either... in addition to offering an incredible selection of fresh produce, deli, sushi, sundries, snacks, drinks, cleaning products, etc... there is a fabulous bakery, a Starbucks, cards, gifts, clothing, free wifi, and so much more. All of that being said, I admit to working from this Fry's on more than a few occasions... and ordering birthday cakes from this Fry's bakery too. It's a bit more of a drive to shop / order here, but it's worth it! No matter what you're shopping for, this Fry's probably carries it... unless you're looking for "Balance Bars." They carry every other nutrition bar you could want. Or if you're particular about Q-tip brand Qtips... they don't have those either. Very disappointed in the attitude of the little boy named Joshua in the bakery department. Very rude condescending and unhelpful. I've never been treated that way an employee ever in my life he humiliated me in front of people too I almost cried then tried to go along like that didn't happen. He went to a few of his coworkers that worked in the meat department and started to belittle me and then to his friend nick in another department that was on the other side of the counter visiting him. Unfortunately I'm not going to give them my business after I was going to give them a big custome cake order. I don't feel comfortable with my order being around that boy I do believe he would tamper with it. I am a repeat customer of your Floral department. I have always been a satisfied customer until my last visit. I was waited on by Gabby who was very short with me huffy, and rude. Before I could ask what my questions were to her she told me "I don't have time for you , just yet." and walked away behind the counter. It was her attitude as she said this, not just the words, very unwelcoming and impolite. She then went behind the counter and was puttering around, which took 15 minutes. There was also other ladies there working as well. And she was rude to one of them saying," I don't have time to deal with you right now" to another associate who had a question. I've never been treated rudely at your location until now. I feel Gaby's attitude was more than evident and is a poor reflection on your floral department. I had questions about several large floral arrangements for a memorial service, but after the attitude and rudeness I took my business elsewhere. I felt I didn't want something so important in her hands. Her attitude is very off-putting and poor reflection on your store for your customers. read more

Not my usual Fry's. This store is huge. As I consider Fry's to be primarily a grocery store, I was a little disconcerted to walk through the clothing aisle to get to the cash register. Horrible experience in the bakery dept. at the Frys on (shea/tatum) 4707 E.Shea. I ordered a birthday cake 2 1/2 weeks ago for my daughter's bday. I came to pick it up in the afternoon on 7/31 and no one was around to help. I had to go to the deli where a woman rudely (Vivienne) told me there was no one there to help me). Another deli employee, (Katie) offered to help as I was only picking up a cake. The cake was no where to be found so she had to page a manager. It took over 20 min and for Katie to go to the front of the store to get a manager. The manager really didn't seem to concerned. She came to the bakery looked around and barely apologized. She seemed bothered that she had to deal with an issue. Katie was profusely apologetic and took down a new order so I could come by the next day at 1p, 8/1 to pick it up. Highly disappointed, my daughter went to pick it up only to discover a misspelling on the cake. It wasn't even a person's name she misspelled. It was a common word. The word "Since". She spelled it SENCE (see attached pic). 2 weeks ago when this person took my order, I had to correct it on the order form she wrote on and even told her. And again today, the same mistake! No one, not even the manager apologized. I will never again use the bakery for anything. All they did was keep pointing fingers and placing blame on others. Poor customer service. Poor management. I shop every week at that Fry's and I'm appalled at the experience and lack of professionalism. Do better Fry's. Do better! read more

I love This frys we come to it all the Time and there's 2 Other frys way closer to home. But what I don't understand is that me and my wife walked in at 7:45 on a Monday night and we hit the produce first then to the deli It was was 8:00 and they had the deli salad area all plastic up ( the potato salad , tuna fish area). Asked if it was close he said yes. Ok why in the hell would it be closed when there's 3 more hours till closed. Ok I can understand the meats cause then maybe you have to clean machines . Wow wow wow wow! This Fry's is like the mother of all Fry's! I was completely blown away... I'm visiting from Charlotte and have lived in Scottsdale for about 7 years before moving out of state. A lot has changed in the surrounding areas. My sister came across this location when she moved into her own apartment. She has been dying to take me ever since. This location has it all! It's just like a normal Fry's but it also has a huge clothing department and outside furniture department. The kitchen department is huge and there is a huge spot to look for books and to sit down and read. I don't think there was anything you couldn't get in the clothing department. They even had a shoe section!!!! I wonder why this Fry's is SO different compared the others in the surrounding area. It was great to be able to visit! I did buy a few things. Got some groceries and a new water bottle. I will definitely come back to this place before I leave for Charlotte. This review is for anyone considering a job here but may help those who want to shop here as well. I used to work here and my experience wasn't a very good one. The customers are the #1 reason NOT to work or shop here. Not sure if it's the local demographic of the area or not, but the customers at this location were amongst the rudest and most petty I've ever encountered in my entire life. I was a bagger (working part time to get some extra cash at the time) and the customers took themselves WAY too seriously. In the past, I did the same work at other locations and the customers were much nicer. The customers at this location will take out all their frustrations on baggers. Employee morale is low to begin with for what amounts to be a thankless job and the customers make it even worse. I've gotten yelled at for not having any paper bags when the entire store ran out; for not having an item in stock they were looking for; for how crowded it was; for other departments in the store being unable to give them what they wanted; for the lack of "small" carts (even though there were plenty of the large ones); for homeless people hanging out in the cafe; for "damaging the environment" by using plastic bags; etc, etc. Like talk to the manager or corporate office about these things - NOT the minimum wage paid bagger who management isn't going to listen to! Also getting time off is an absolute pain. You have to schedule time off like two weeks in advance. If you have a sudden emergency or whatever, you'll get in trouble for taking the time off since it wasn't scheduled far enough in advance. Like really?? Unless you're desperate, avoid working here. The store itself is really nice, which is why I'm not giving it one star, but even if you're not working here beware the petty customers since they might go off on you for something trivial like not using cloth bags.
