Grounds is a very cute spot in North Long Beach, that gives that local-approved vibe. It's super cute and quaint and provides a super chill environment. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The latter option doesn't provide much of a view except for a parking lot and an Amazon Fresh grocery store but on a nice day, who cares? I don't. Servers are nice. I really appreciated the young lady who took my order at the cash register as you enter; I asked her a question about the potato salad and she honestly replied that she has never had it. Thank you for being honest! I ordered a tuna melt. I wish I had known it had relish because I don't care for the stuff but even with the awful ingredient, it was good. I am in love with their tuna avocado sandwich on sunflower seed bread. The tuna was not overly covered in Mayo. The bread was fresh, seedy, and delightful. I can't wait to come back for this item!! I took 1 star off because their lemon cupcake and carrot cake was not good. They were both old with heavy taste of fridge/ freezer burn. We couldn't finish either one. I'm not sure I will get any dessert item next time. Also, I was sad that their side potatoes salad was not made in house. It was in one of those plastic kids lunch box container. It was overly sweet and watery. Next time, I have to remember to select a different side item. I came here to pick up breakfast before a beach day with my mother (her choice). The lady that gave me my food was rude as heck. She gave me a cup that is a poor excuse to be called a cold brew with no ice or straw; it tasted nothing like coffee. When I asked for ice and a straw she was a complete female dog about it. Not to mention they dropped one of the sandwiches on the floor. Didn't even drink that p water. Terrible way to spend 25$ for 2 sandwiches and a "cold brew". Don't come here. Two hits and one major miss. We don't recommend ordering the everything bagel. Spoiler alert it is not a bagel but a soft sandwich roll with a variety of toppings. I've been to this location several times, and it's not bad. I ordered an Everything bagel with veggie cream cheese this morning that was a bit disappointing. The (stick) bagel appeared to have only sesame & poppy seeds on it, I didn't see or taste any onion/garlic/salt, and the thin smear of cream cheese was a bit disappointing too, especially since the cream cream cheese was much more than the bagel (as expected). I'll have to try it again another time. I also had a boxed lunch from here recently, which is pretty good. I tried the chicken salad sandwich for the first time. I didn't care for the flavor. There were large chunks of water chestnuts (I think) that overpowered the chicken. I removed several of them after a couple of bites because there were just too many. (I forgot to take photos.) Grounds is a solid cafe which offers breakfast, lunch, and coffee items. I appreciate that they have a wide selection of everything. I've been here twice now with a few people and each time have found their food to be okay. Their salads are huge and comes with packaged dressing. It wasn't anything super good and the only wow factor was the size of the plate. Their house made soups are pretty good. I've had their broccoli cheese which I liked. I've also had some of their lattes. I like that they have a long list of different types and they offer options for milk alternatives. They also carry sandwiches (hot & cold), pizzas, muffins, scones, croissants, cookies, cupcakes, flan, and so many different types of bagels. You can get a meal for about $15 per person. The service is cool. You pay at the register and they give you a number so they can bring you your food. The inside is pretty casual. There's a little private area in the back that seats about up to 8 people. It's first come first serve and you can get it as long as your group spends over $30 which is pretty easy. read more

I have always loved Grounds, however, today I had to stop at the UPS store on Spring St to drop off a package. Since Grounds was next door, I thought I'd grab a sandwich since it was lunch time. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on toasted squaw bread, The chicken salad really had no flavor and the only ingredients that were in it I think, were mayo, celery and water chestnuts. My main complaint is that the entire sandwich fell apart when I was trying to eat it. For $10.00, I think I'll pass next time.. read more

Went to grounds for an early lunch and ordered the Bacon Omelet on a Garlic Cheese Bagel. A simple local cafe as far as ambiance goes, nothing to write home to nor nothing to complain about. I personally have not been to grounds in a very long time and I remember loving the bagels very much, but now I am immensely disappointed with the quality of the food. The bagel was incredibly disappointing, these are not water boiled bagels but just regular bread shaped into bagels. It does make for a very soft bagel but is not the chewy texture of a good bagel. The bacon and egg felt reminiscent of the free continental breakfast you get at a hotel. The egg was a premade patty!!! Overall for the price of $10, it didn't hold up to expectations. read more

Just moved into this area from another part of Long Beach and tried this place out. Very impressed with the sandwiches and pastries. Got lemon bar, bagel breakfast sandwich, choc croissants , pastrami sandwich and it was great. But the hot cafe mocha was a little too sweet and creamy. Expresso wasn't as strong as I like. Other than that loved the items and such a good vibe from workers and other patrons Will come back regularly now. One complaint is they have very good blue berry scones, but they seem to not make enough and keep running out. They always have choc chip and cinnamon scones always available a full row. Why not just make less of what people don't buy and make more of what people do buy? Supply and demand? Just make more blueberry scones and less of the other scones you prolly throw away at the end of the day because no one buys read more

My mom's favorite local sandwich shop. I only give it a 4/5 because the amount of ingredients/size of the the sandwiches always seems to be lacking for me. I find myself always still hungry. But always delicious, fresh vegetables, great bread, only wish there was more meat. I've ordered it to go and sat in their restaurant many times. Sometimes busy in the morning but never wait long. Bagel selection is good, much better than most bagel shops in Long Beach. Salads, pastas, soups, all tasty. I usually get the avocado BLT, perfect when I'm craving it. With a tomato soup, that pairs nicely. Coffee's are decent, but nothing stands out enough where I'd specifically go there for the drinks. I would give a 5 because the food is delicious. Bagels are amazing. Service is hit and miss. Not consistent but good enough when it's not so good. The issue is your system for ordering! Customer orders and there's plenty of what's being ordered in the display when you order. However, no one pulls the items and then the next customer and next customer and so on orders just from the display and takes what you've already ordered! As you wait for your order from the kitchen and then they tell you they're out of what you ordered from the bakery display. This has happened a few times to us! Not cool! You need to figure out a new way to do this. Simple. Pull the items from the bakery display, as soon as the customer orders and the customer waits for just the food they ordered from the kitchen. Excellent, professional and friendly service. I really appreciate how friendly and patient they were with answering questions about their gluten free option, despite having a trying customer. We just had a rough night/morning with complete meltdown of an on the spectrum child who has various food restrictions and triggers. We called several locations and even drove another cafe/bakery that morning only to find that they didn't actually have what they said they did. By the time we called here, our patience had already been tested so I truly appreciate how they handled the call without a hint of impatience in their tone. Although they didnt have a gluten free bagel option, they did have gf bread. We were happy that our neice was able to have breakfast with the rest of her cousins and not have to ask why everyone else got something and she didn't. The bagels here are super soft, and they toast very well. Actually some of the best bagels I've had! Not too dense. We'll definitely come back the next time we are in the area. read more

I waited a while for my order, it was understandable at first but by the time I got my order almost everyone else had been served. People barely getting their order were getting their coffees freshly made and mine had been just sitting there getting watered down, sitting there since I ordered, the coffee tastes like something I can just make at home. read more

At this point, it's been 20 years. I've been coming here on and off on a regular basis mostly mornings to get my bagel and a coffee or hot chocolate or whatever it may be sometimes for lunch as well. The service has always been great. The food has always been good , the ambiance is nice and cozy to sit in or outside . I have never had a problem. On occasion, I see people in there that make it hard for the workers to do their job , Complaining about everything because they feel entitled. I just seen a post where a person didn't like the way his item came out so he's mad because he didn't have certain things he thought should be in it . and decided to call staff Female dogs..! wow I guess that goes to show the class of the person who did that. Any ways these people are busy and running fast most days they have great friendly attitudes and the food rocks .. my only complaint is about the rude entitled people that come in and make issues .. keep up the good work Grounds !! read more

Used to come here for years. Knew all the staff. Enjoyed the bagels and coffee. However I just cannot stomach the cleaning smell. It got to where I would go home after and could still smell it on me. We tried sitting outside and we could still smell it. I said something to the cashier once and she said she couldn't smell it. One time even my bagel tasted like it. I go to UPS next door and I can smell it! I just can't. It's disgusting. It smells like urinal cakes or fabulosa. Sadly, we no longer go there because of the smell. You walk into a bakery and you want to smell a bakery! Or even coffee. I hope Regina reads these and does something about it. read more
