This spot was conveniently located in the downtown district and close to the theatre where we were going . Parking was easy as there is a lot next door. Place is cute inside, however during a busy time, i can see it would be busy because the main room doesn't have a ton of seats - but most ramen places are this way. My husband and I ordered the spicy pork dumplings and the gu (house) ramen with chashu. The spicy pork dumplings were very tasty, not very spicy at all, and came with a nice salad - but was extremely oily. The salad underneath was dripping in oil. Taste was good, but as you are eating, the oil goes all over. Enjoyable, but needs much less oil. So much was leftover that we were able to use it as a condiment down for rhe ramen. The Gu Ramen is their house ramen made with pork broth. Very tasty, the broth is very flavorful, not oily, and very delicious. Portion sizes is good. The thing with this ramen place is that each topping is an add on. So while other ramen places offer a bowl already included with some toppings, you have to pay extra for each thing you want on it, so it gets expensive. They also don't make the traditional ramen egg (marinated). Service was decent and pleasant. Our table was sticky on arrival despite the restaurant wasn't. Skimpy on the napkins, which were needed from the oily salad. Overall, while the ramen broth itself was delicious, there was nothing exemplary that would encourage me to choose this place over another ramen spot. read more

Had dinner with a big group of friends (party of 9) last Thursday during the Anime Los Angeles convention. This was our second year eating here. The service was great for a busy night. They did their best to accommodate us, and checked in on us throughout our meal. For this visit I ordered their Chasu Yaki Bowl and La Cheese Wonton. The Chasu Yaki Bowl has Chasu meat drizzled with teriyaki sauce on top of fried rice. The serving of fried rice is quite large. The La Cheese Wontons were all cream cheese on the inside, drizzled with hot & sour sauce, and also provided with a dipping sauce. My friends enjoyed their ramen orders. Looking at the menu my boyfriend and I decided to do the $13 ramen but to ad things like egg and stuff like that is an extra charge but, they did have ramen bowls to choose from if you didnt want to customize your own. **If looking for an authentic ramen place, this may not be the place for you.** Coming here super hungry and seeing all the great reviews, I left super disappointed in almost every aspect - the service, the food, and even having to pay for parking in DTLB. The place was almost empty when we arrived, however we didn't feel very welcomed. The waitresses were not very friendly and didn't really check on us throughout the meal. My fiancé and I both had a gu ramen, mild and spicy, and the chashu bowl. Both ramens were not authentic ramen flavors (maybe it was on us for not knowing this beforehand), yet even then, the Thai flavors didn't seem to really work well with the tonkatsu broth. The chashu was incredibly chewy and rubbery, and we received hard boiled eggs on top rather than the usual runny egg. The chashu bowl was probably the highlight of the meal - the fried rice was great, but... it's just fried rice. The chashu was again very chewy and rubbery and we only got TWO pieces, and for almost $20, we were expecting a little bit more, both quality and quantity wise. We planned to hang out on the lawn of the Shoreline Aquatic Park by the lighthouse today, so first we parked at the Pike Outlets parking garage on Cedar and 3rd, then walked to Gu Ramen 12 minutes away. Service (5/5): Bee was working alone in front but she greeted us right away and got us started on drinks. She was very attentive and filled our waters just at the right time when the spicy broth of the ramen needed to be cooled off. Ambience (3/5): Clean, plenty of seating, 6 large screens with the sound off at least (playing the Women's Singles US National championship of corn hole), hip hop playing in the background. Clean bathrooms. Everything in shades of grey and brown which isn't pretty but practical. One accent chandelier by the front entrance which seemed out of place but I liked it. Food(4/5): Appetizers : Crispy Tofutons (great sauce!) and spicy edamame (more sweet than spicy but yummy). the Spicy ramen with extra toppings of red ginger, egg, wood ear mushrooms: broth had very subtle flavor so what comes through most is the spiciness (level 2 was perfect). One of the best Ramen spots in DTLB! A must try! We came here solely because it was open late, and it has now become a regular for us. First off, their customer service is excellent. It is always pretty quiet, even on a busy night. Secondly, their ramen is absolutely amazing. I always get the lollipop chicken ramen with Udon noddles, and the broth is always on point. Never too salty or greasy. Their prices are also very fair. Two ramen bowls with no additional toppings was less than $30. Parking can be tricky, but there are a couple of parking garages with free 2 hr parking. This place is definitely worth a visit! read more

Not very good ramen, I would say it's pretty average in full transparency. Ask for your proteins to be placed on the side or they will come out very soggy. Also be very mindful, I ordered a shrimp ramen and added lollipop chicken and did this intentionally to avoid an up charge. The waiter wrote it up the opposite however making the ticket larger. Really good ramen joint in Long Beach during one of our random ventures. We arrived right when they open on a Saturday so we were able to snag a parking on the street. Street parking are paid via the kiosk but there are also parking garage close by. We were the first and only party seated. The server wasn't very attentive and the food took a bit longer than what I'm used to. I didn't get the chance to snap a picture of my ramen but I got the regular Tonkotsu ramen and it was yummy! The hubby got the spicy Tonkotsu and he said it's a lot spicier than other ramen joints we've been too. The tapas were on the more expensive end $15 (ish) for 4 poke nachos. That was my least favorite tapa along with the corn cheese. Really love the calamari and spicy wontons! Can't go wrong with salted edamame but $8/9 for steamed edamame. The portions were decently big though A small personal recommendation would be to have a baby changing table in the bathroom. experience was great until the very end. i'm pretty disappointed in the service and our server specifically. we were sat swiftly and prices were good, ramen was ok, noodles were a bit overcooked. at the end, my friend and i split our checks. i tipped, my friend didn't. when our server (a young asian woman) came and picked up our checks, she cornered my friend from leaving and pointed at the check. we were both confused, wondering if he didn't add the total or something. she then said "tip" ?? absolutely absurd. when my friend pointed out that i had tipped for the both of us, she then said that they were "two separate checks" and quite literally did not let him leave until he tipped. she then walked away with an attitude. i understand living is difficult, im not an idiot, which is why i tipped. if she and the staff wanted to sh*t talk us after we left, go ahead. but to corner a customer & force them to tip is absolutely horrendous. i will not be returning, extremely disappointing and disrespectful service. read more

This is one of the better ramen shop in downtown Long Beach. It's a good walk from my work and my coworkers and I like to come here on our splurge day! Ramen comes basic with tonkotsu broth (bone broth), green onions, naruto, and roasted sesame seed. The tonkotsu base here is with both pork and chicken broth, so it has the look of a shio (salt) base. Normal tonkotsu (pork bone) broth is dark. You can choose to sub ramen with udon for $2 extra charge. Then you can choose your spicy level. I would recommend if you don't know how spicy you can take, ask for the chili oil on the side so you can add it to your taste! After that, each additional topping is about $0.89 to $4. They also offer Tofu ramen with shoyu base (soy sauce base) for vegetarian. For appetizer, I like their soft shell crabs! Usually it's delicious as an appetizer with the citrusy ponzu sauce. Too bad that each time I'm here, it's usually lunch on a work day so I can never get a cold beer to go with my hot delicious bowl of ramen and crunchy soft shell crabs. Bummer!
