Been here several times to get their salad to-go. Love the taste of their chicken salad. I normally would be giving them a 5 star except for my experience last night when I came in. Based on the condition of the inside of the restaurant, they'd be 2 star. I felt like I was in the middle of a bad neighborhood in a dirty restaurant. The vinyl upholstery on their booths were disgusting. All ripped and no way I'd sit in it in shorts let alone jeans. The floors seemed dirty and bathrooms just so-so. Not sure what's going on with this place, but they need to clean things up if they want to keep business going. It was late, about 10pm so maybe they didn't have time or staff to clean all day? But what about their nasty furniture? Please fix it! We were going to eat there but after seeing that, we took it to-go. They ran out of popcorn chicken, which was on the handwritten menu along with coleslaw. We ordered the cole slaw for $1.85. It was a joke! Very tiny styrofoam container and it tasted exactly like KFC. I'm wondering if they purchased it there? Holdaak, can you answer that? read more

The service here has gone down so much. Went in today, they have chicken laid out an put in fryer when I ordered. For like 2 min and it tasted old. Than they had fires on the counter in a bowl and tried to give me cold fries, I said no an made them cook fresh fries. Not the 1st time this same situation has happen. Not going back. read more

This place is offers quick and easy take out! We placed an order online and upon our arrival it was ready! Confirmation said it would be ready in about 20-25 minutes, we arrived early and it was already done. My kind of service! Luckily we had ordered online as a line was starting to build up at the store. We ordered 1 spicy chicken sandwich with fries and 1 regular chicken sandwich. Their fried chicken is nicely fried, super crunchy and moist. Not dry at all. I had the spicy chicken sandwich for myself, and i thought everything was well balanced. The spicy chicken wasnt really spicy for those who want something on the spicy-side but it has a bit of heat to their food if you just want a small kick. Their pickled onions and daikon (their version of cole slaw for the sandwich) was so good! It honestly gave the sandwich a nice balance. The spicy fried chicken with a pickled "cole slaw" to balance the spiciness and then the spicy mayo was all put well together! Definitely asian-inspired taste profile. Loved it! The fries were seasoned with cajun and they were very generous with it. Super crisp. The sandwich itself is also super big! I scarfed the sandwich down in minutes and was too full for my sandwich. Price is reasonable. It is a bit messy to eat but when you get it to go, there's actually a glove in there to help! Definitely a must try place if you want something different from a fried chicken sandwich. Super moist, super crispy, made fresh, and the "cole slaw" is great! It like that's its differently from the american one as sometimes i think theres too much mayo in it. i like this better as its also like the pickled veggies you get in vietnamese sandwiches. Hands down my favorite fried chicken sandwich place in OC. I come here with my brother every time I'm in town and it's amazing every single time. The pickled vegetables on the sandwich and the sauce really bring the sandwich together. The amount of chicken in the sandwich is also PLENTY and the crunch on the batter is 10/10. I think about this place in my free time way more than I should and the staff is really friendly as well. If the sandwich is too big for you, I definitively recommend the spicy chicken tenders. My parents love splitting the 5 piece together! I don't give 5 stars often but this place deserves it!!! read more

I just want to scream "HOLDAAK SPICY CHICKEN SANDWICH" is the best ever, beyond in town, beyond any city and definitely beyond any state. It is just $2.01 more than Popeye's Spicy Chicken and just $1.01 more for the Original Not Spicy version. I really hate when you order a crispy chicken sandwich from anywhere and when you get home about 10-15 mins later the fried chicken inside your sandwich is soggy. But Holdaak is hella crispy still, even when the box is completely closed. It is magical. The taste is really delicious and well balanced. It comes on a soft bun, next a boneless crispy battered fried chicken, pickled daikon, spicy sauce and sliced jalapenos. AMAZING. Do not walk away from the daikon, it gives it the extra umami favor to your spicy chicken sandwich. You will not regret any bite except you wish you could finish the entire sandwich because the sandwich is huge. read more

Holdaak spicy chicken sandwiches are juicy and tasty. The daikon slaw complimented the sandwich along with the comeback sauce. This sandwich is similar to Canes but a Korean version of that. The fries are seasoned well and not too salty. I tried a bite of my daughter's cheese fries and I'll definitely order those again. The cheese fries reminded me of Boardwalk Fries from San Diego minus the peanut oil taste. I will absolutely come back and try the other sandwiches on my next visit. read more

Menu is fairly simple, but very efficient. The portions were generous and delicious. I had the combo that comes with a burger and wings and they were both so good. My favorite sauce is the original and spicy. I'm not too crazy on the caramel soy. The wings are jumbo size so even two or three wings makes my stomach happy. The spicy chicken burger is really good too. Service is great and I am definitely coming back here when I am in the area. read more

Who knows how long the craze for fried chicken will be? Will it continue on forward in 2020 or will it sizzle out before summer arrives with its hot, hot heat? What I do know is that when a place makes only 5 things and they make it fresh you are in for some incredible food. Spoiler: quite possibly the best fried chicken sandwich in OC, if not Southern California. I'm talking about this small restaurant in Fullerton named Holdaak. The Skinny (summary) The restaurant is owned by a bunch of Koreans. This is a damn good thing because in my view Koreans make the best fried chicken. It is crispy on the outside but piping hot and moist on the inside. Here they sell only a limited menu of items but together they create the magic and power of something like Voltron or The View. I'm talking about chicken tenders, fried chicken sandwich (in both mild and spicy form), chicken wings, a chicken salad, and fries. That's it folks but in that limited number of items you have heaven in the bites. They make it easy for you decide without a plethora of words overcrowding the menu. They know what they like to make and they know you'll like it too. The Fat (food) The food here is incredible. Next to the register you see the cooks frying away on the chicken and fries. It is a master class of perfect frying. You see the food they're making. There is no flair, no show to see. Instead you see the (hypothetical) blood, sweat, and tears that were placed in their dedication of flavors in the food. And it comes out! That first bite into your chicken sandwich is a transportation to the heavens above Korea. The flavors are like the dankness from a fantastic Korean pub. The bread is strong enough to hold onto such boldness between them. The chicken filet is crispy skinned with dripping-with-sensual-taste meat on the inside. Within the buns are also a small pile of julienned daicon or white radish which adds sweetness to the spice. You have raw green peppers and pickled red onions along with their comeback sauce. It is a journey of flavors. One that will have you crying at some moments and nodding with elation at others. It is emotional folks and you want it! Add in some well crisped fries, seasoned with what can only be described as seasoning salt from the gods, and you have a great combo together where you don't know where to start or continue. What you will know is the sadness comes in waves as you realize the food you're devouring is coming to an end. The other side of hangry! Conclusion Whether you dine in or take away Holdaak has got you like your best friend holding your hair after a rager. This chicken will not disappoint you. It will love you, please you, and say thank you as you close your eyes in bliss on that last bite. This place is a must try for anyone who loves food. Whether it be for lunch or for dinner, weekday or birthday, come check out Holdaak and be prepared to get chicken wasted. read more

Spicy chicken sandwich - (roughly $7) When I took my first bite, I didn't know how to approach it because the sandwich Itself was massive. It was expected though considering it is more so on the pricy side. The pickled slaw/radish added so much flavor to the chicken. The chicken was crispy yet somewhat soft and tender. I really enjoyed the sweet onion and the radish because i feel like the chicken itself would be so plain without it. Overall, I would come here again because my mouth was tingling with so many different emotions leaving me wanting to come back for more. A great way to cap off a nice day at Disney. We snagged a 10 Family Pack of crispy yet juicy strips, 1/2 original and 1/2 caramel soy. Wow, they were delicious! The caramel soy is on the salty side, but it was my favorite. Don't make the mistake of thinking 10 strips is too little. They are massive, probably 3x or more larger than Chick-fil-A. I finally tried this spot out that I had bookmarked for awhile. Their menu is very simple. strips, wings and sandwiches. I ordered their Original Chicken Sandwich and Spicy Chicken Sandwich with fries and unlimited time only popcorn chicken. Everything that I got tasted so delicious, fresh and crunchy. Their sauce gave it a bonus flavor. There's a reason why this place is always packed. They have limited seating. I would rather order to go instead. Crispy, tender, and flavorful - everything you can ask for in Fried chicken. I originally planned to order just the chicken sandwich but on this rare occasion, my friend and I decided to share food. We ended up ordering a spicy chicken sandwich combo (fries and drink included $9) and a 12 piece caramel soy wings ($13). First off, I kept on thinking about the wings two days after. It was that good. Plump, tender, and crispy. It looked beautiful and tasted excellent as well. It's not too sweet and there's a good mix of wings and drumsticks. To counter the sweetness, we ordered the spicy chicken sandwich. It's a thick cut and again, crispy and oh so tender. It is quite spicy so it comes with ranch dressing. Holdaak, get right witcha. Heard from friends this place has really good Korean fried chicken sandwiches so we decided to check it out. It's in a plaza with plenty of parking. The inside is small and I wouldn't recommend it for really large groups. The menu is simple and straight to the point - which I like because too many options stress me out sometimes lol. I got the famous spicy chicken sandwich and it did not disappoint. The chicken was fried to perfection and the spicy sauce covered the chicken in all the right places. The slaw that was placed in between was flavorful as well. I really liked the sauces with the clever names. They really added flavor to the fries and the sandwich if you wanted additional flavor. My only complaint is if you don't eat it fast enough, it'll get soggy. But let's be real here, it's bound to get soggy anyway so enjoy it. read more

The emails don't align with the offers inside. They don't honor them even if you show them but the food is good. The sodas are a bit flat but I come for the wings and sandwiches. Highly recommend the shake fries. Very courteous too when you walk in. read more

I dream about this place time to time because their food is amazing! The quality of the food is bomb and the portions are huge for the price! I really like that this place keeps their menu simple, almost like In & Out does so they can focus on bringing out great quality food. Food 5/5: I'm drooling as I type this but I've had their chicken strips, popcorn chicken, sandwiches, and fries. All I can say is choosing between how I want my chicken made here is one of the toughest decisions lol. Just don't skip on the fries! The seasoning on it is almost like an Asian style Cajun Fries. Their food usually comes with a dipping sauce that compliments it really well. YUM! Price 5/5: At first glance, this place seems to be on par with like a Raising Canes or Chick-Fil-a but you get so much more. Technically you can get full from just ordering one item but since things taste so great, I always end up ordering fries with it and bringing food home for later. This is not a fast food place, it takes time to make the food and it is worth waiting for. Holdaak is known for its fried chicken, which comes in a sandwich or on a salad or just as chicken wings. Choose your vehicle of choice and then the flavor of choice after that. We got the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, the Fried Chicken Sandwich, and Shake fries. Each item was sizable, and both the sandwich and salad could be stand alone entrees. The sandwich comes with daikon, pickled onions, green bell peppers, and their Comeback sauce (extra costs 25 cents). The two pieces of fried chicken on the sandwich feature light breading, and then some added liquid and then a spice powder on top of that. I did not care for the spice powder, it's the typical Korean spice, similar to gochujang, has some latent heat that grows over time but still plateaus at a medium heat level. My partner did enjoy it, the spice adding some more robust flavor, but the overall spice level being very tolerable and not needed to refill the water cup. We ordered the salad with the regular chicken (other option was spicy), and it was very good too. I personally liked the regular fried chicken since then the batter and fried nature was able to shine through. The salad is close to a cobb with some extras. It had some egg, bacon bits, halved tomatoes, pickled onions, corn, and came with a ranch dressing that tasted just slightly sweet (not just a Hidden Valley Ranch). I was full from the salad, but was coaxed into also eating some fries. The container made it easy to mix the dressing and get a good coating on all pieces, and each ingredient was fresh and flavorful. If you order the fries as a stand-alone side they come in a brown bag and the spice powder is on the side (great for me), and if you order the fries as a combo (sandwich fries drink) then they come in the same container as the sandwich and with the spice powder already on them. The fries were amazing as is (without spice), definitely top 5 ever, cooked to just the right amount to provide studiness but without being fatty. Just needed some ketchup to dip and life was good. My only complaint is that the wings come in Regular, Spicy, or Caramel Soy, but that for the salad or sandwich you only have the option of Regular and Spicy. Why not the caramel soy? read more

If this place entered the chicken sandwich wars, it would be a no-brainer as this place puts Popeyes and Chick-fil-A to shame. If you want crispy, this is the place. If sauce is for you, this is the place. The onions and veggies that go into the sandwich is the bomb. There's so much flavor and crunch to this sandwich. On top of that, if you order a combo, it comes with seasoned fries which are also very crunchy. You cannot go wrong with Korean chicken. read more

I have been looking for and trying different fried chicken sandwich places. There aren't really any Nashville hot chicken places closer to me in OC, so I'm always searching for the next best thing. Mind you, this place is not known for being like Nashville hot chicken, but their fried chicken sandwiches are really delicious!!! I got the spicy chicken sandwich with coleslaw and fries. Their sandwich is kinda like the Asian version of a fried chicken sandwich. It comes with radish, pickled onions, jalapenos, and sauce on it. I added the coleslaw into the sandwich since they give it to you on the side. I think that I would've liked the sandwich a little bit more if I could have made it spicier, as I love eating spicy things. It was still amazing as it was!! The sandwich has more of a sweet taste to it, which might be because of the unique toppings. PRO tip: This place provides gloves!!! If you don't want your hands/fingers getting dirty and covered in sauce, then you can grab the gloves and protect your hands. It came in handy when i was eating my sandwich because it's pretty messy. Want a DELICIOUS chicken sandwich without waiting in a 1-hr line at Howlin' Ray's? This is the spot to go! I'm always a little skeptical when places have such high Yelp ratings; however, Holdaak definitely exceeded all of my expectations. FOOD: -spicy chicken sandwich (5/5): This chicken sandwich is packed with radish, onions, veggies, and juicy, tender, and CRISPY pieces of chicken. The "comeback" sauce used for the sandwich and fries is sooooo good- it's a sweet, spicy, and tangy mayo-based sauce. Everything in the sammie paired perfectly together- you HAVE to try it. -fries (4.5/5): Holdaak's fries are perfectly crispy and are not soggy at all. They pair well with the comeback sauce. I didn't get a chance to try their other sauces, but will try to next time! SERVICE: If we're comparing the service between Holdaak, Howlin' Ray's, and Dave's Hot Chicken, I would say Holdaak performs below par. While their employees are friendly, they don't exude the same level of excitement as employees in the latter. PARKING/INTERIOR: There are ample parking spaces in the lot- parking is a breeze! This is a twist on spicy chicken's sandwich. The Seoul Spicy chicken sandwich packed some serious flavor and the addition of pickled radish completely changes the game! The original sand was great a bit more on the milder side. Their fries are great just right for most, I wish there was bit more seasoning so it have bit more of a kick read more

I really love their chicken sandwiches, both the original and spicy are great. The chicken is crispy and juicy, and the piece they give it is big so they're not skimping out on that part. The pickled radish in it pairs perfectly with the ingredients and gives it classic pickled korean taste. In my opinion, it's not really comparable to popeyes chicken sandwiches because both shops' takes are really different from each other. They're both chicken sandwiches but there's different levels to it. I will say though that the quality of Holdaak's food is a lot higher. The french fries here as well are incredible, and I'm not sure how they remain crispy for so long. I've kept the fries steaming in the takeout box for 20 minutes before and they were still really crispy. Haven't tried the other items here and it'll be hard to considering how good the sandwiches and fries are. read more

This place really took me by surprise. I've passed by so many times and once I finally went in I had to wonder what took me so long! Great food, great service, decent prices, and cool music. It could be a little spicier but that's subjective. The Seoul sandwich is also very good and I recommend it to anyone who wants a fresh take on a classic recipe. read more

I saw this place scrolling through my Yelp and I was curious. Finally, I get to try this place after going through all my bookmarked places one by one. But before you decide to try this place out, make sure you are famished and hangry. I was just craving like a preggo. I didn't realize how big this portion was until I saw it in person. Corners of my lips have ripped trying to put this monstrous monstrosity in my mouth. I ordered the spicy chicken which I was told was the favorite. And it was pretty huge! I wondered why the fries weren't included. Btw the Shake Fries were good! They give it to you in a paper bag with seasoning on the side. You control the amount of seasoning you want on your fries, then ...... shake-shake-shake. On the condiments counter they had 3 sauces to choose from - ranch, thousand island, and cherry ketchup. Cherry?! Not too bad, but I preferred the thousand island. What was really nice was that they wrote the color on the sauces for people who are colorblind. Also on the counter was a water fountain. There were no fountain drinks, just canned or bottled drinks so it was nice to see that they had water ready to offer. Overall it was a good foodie experience. Would I go back? My Sunday Lunch spot! Their chicken sandwich is so good! What I like is that the piece of chicken is always proportionate to the bun it comes on. The crunch is always on point, and the mix of the cabbage and gari highlights the flavor of the sandwich - without obscuring it. I get it with the comeback sauce. Their fries are really on point as well. I had this for 5 Sundays in a row and never got tired of it. read more

Basically, we ordered the whole menu. The spicy chicken sandwich is crazy good. I actually like it better than Howling Ray's (and I didn't have to wait 3 hours). This store is a haven for misbehaving employees. The store shift manager's choice of Korn and Misfits doesn't contribute to the atmosphere and business of this store. People who give less than 17% tip get revenged by the cashier/manager in the form of getting their food late, usually behind two people who ordered later than he or she did. Of course, these people mistreat your food as well. I ordered Seoul which was sweet and spicy and result was only spicy. The district manager needs to do something about this store. The food at Holldak in Fullerton is actually pretty good overall. The flavors are solid, and the fries are definitely a standout--they were easily the best part of the meal. That said, it's the kind of place you can probably only eat at once in a while because everything is really heavy. After a few bites, it starts to feel like a lot, and it's not something I'd crave regularly. In the end, it really comes down to value. I love this place. It's simple. There's like 3 things on the menu and they're all good. I always think I want the sandwich but deep down I know the salad is just a little better. This place is solid!! If your craving a fried chicken sandwich this is the spot! The staff members were extremely nice and we had a great feeling. The food was just great. We usually eat family style so we get a 5 piece chicken tenders (spicy) which comes with fries and a piece of toast, and the 12 pc. wings.
