I took my mom out for breakfast here yesterday while she was in town visiting. Super cute atmosphere! You get sat at a table and you can order via QR code at your table or walk up to the counter to order. My mom and I split the breakfast sandwich and honey dream waffles. The food was delicious!! Stumbled upon this restaurant while showing my out-of-town family around San Diego, and it was the most adorable little gem! Honeybees is sooooo cutely decorated, you feel like you're in a groovy honeycomb. And the staff here is so attentive and welcoming, I felt like all my needs were met. We ordered some chili which was super yummy and made in house. Unfortunately all the soft serve and sundaes were sold out so we didn't get to try any of them, but the staff was so friendly and brought us cheesecake brownies and blueberry muffins which were sooo good! The fam and I (3 total) decided to try out this new cafe in town, Honeybees. The line wasn't too bad, we waited maybe 15 minutes. The aesthetics are super cute, lots of insta opportunities. The owner wears many hats and was friendly and extremely hard working. A waitress approached us and offered water. She came back a few minutes later with iced water in clear plastic cups with lids. When I went to take a drink, it spilled on my chest and lap. The lid was not securely on! I told my husband and daughter to check their lids which were on tight. No problem, it's just ice water and I needed to wake-up:o) We ordered 3 entrees through the QR code, and each one was delicious; huge portions we could have shared 2! I love pretty food, and the presentation was on point!! We also ordered 3 different coffees. I forgot what my hubby and daughter ordered, but they said there's was a 7 out of 10. I saw Honeybees on Instagram and wanted to come to see the decor. It is so unique and very cool! The owner was saying that her husband designed the entire cafe himself, how innovative! Overall, I'd say come for the coffee and the ambiance, and maybe skip the food or order something other than what we did. I got the banana brûlée latte, my friend got the marshmallow latte, and we shared the banana bread French toast and the breakfast pie (we got ham and subbed the cheddar cheese for feta). Portions are quite big and definitely worth the price. I thought the quality of the taste was alright but I'd probably try something different next time. What a charming breakfast brunch place! It is absolutely beautiful with so many lovely details in the decor and menu. The owners were there and so welcoming. This is their passion that they have been working on for the last 3 1/2 years-- the beautiful hive ceiling made of wood with honey drip lamps took the owner 10 months to put up. The whole place, including the restrooms are gorgeous. And so is the food. We tried several things: monte cristo sandwich, chicken and waffles, cordon blue sandwich, breakfast pie, fish and chips, and everything was wonderful. The waffles tasted from frozen & kept warm under a heat lamp. The pancakes were so sweet, Willy Wonka named a flavor after them! Had I not already paid, I'd have walked out after 1/2 hr. We were told 4 chefs in the back working. Apparently, not on people's food. I saw at least 2-3 other tables of people that came in right behind us, who looked emaciated from waiting for their plates. It felt like we were in a community college rendition of Oliver Twist. "Please, sir. May I have some service?!" If anything, order that sammy to go & forego the slow torment of watching plates of food float by wondering if they're yours. Or if you even remembered what you ordered. We saw a beautiful picture of honeybees on Instagram and thought about stopping by to check it out. This place is tucked into a series of cafes along Garnet in Pacific Beach. The beach is about a 20-minute walk from the venue. Inside, we were amazed by the interior design and it truly lived up to its name. We felt as if we were housed in a beehive. The ceiling is crafted with a series of honeycombs and yellow flowers surround the entrance. We also liked the brick wall with an upper layer lit by pink neon lights. We ordered the hot banana latte and honey lavender latte, along with the cold matcha strawberry and lavender drink. Honeybees is a newly opened eatery and creamery on Garnet Ave in the heart of PB near Starbucks. The owner spent years and a lot of resources to transform a former vintage shop into a honey-themed restaurant. The interior decor prominently featured honeycombs of different shapes and sizes on the ceiling and walls. A large menu screen was posted on the wall to the right when you walked in. You can order at the service counter or from a QR code available at each of the tables and then the food/drink will be brought to you from the kitchen. The breakfast fare was on the left side while the lunch offerings were on the right side. In between those two sections were the cones and sundaes. For a creamery, I didn't find ice cream to be a highlight of the establishment. There wasn't a refrigerated display of flavors or even a hint that they served the frozen treat unless you looked at the menu. Vanilla, chocolate, and twist were the only flavors I noticed. Honey was an ingredient listed on many of the menu items. I selected the Honeybees Pasta which was a choice of either shrimp honey vodka pasta with parmesan (my pick) or shrimp honey pesto. The order came was supposed to come with garlic knots. When my dish arrived, a piece of garlic toast was on the side. The sauce was certainly on the sweeter side, but I didn't mind that at all. What concerned me more was that it took over 20 minutes before the food was ready. The kitchen will have to improve its speed if they want to efficiently handle a high volume without keeping their customers waiting too long. The current operating hours are from Wednesday to Sunday with an opening time of 9 am and a closing time of 3 pm on weekdays and 5 pm on weekends. Some increased advertising of Honeybees presence will need to happen as this main strip of the neighborhood has plenty of dining options. I would push the brunch aspect as that is always a draw for San Diegans. I overheard that an on-site meadery is also in the works. That would be a unique aspect as most meaderies in this region are located inland in North County. read more

The food here is decent. I ordered the rib breakfast, but I was hoping to be able to rip the rib from the bone with my hands. Instead, it was already shredded and served in my sandwich. I was a bit disappointed, but overall, it tasted fair. The entire restaurant features a honeycomb theme, with numerous natural images adorning the interior. The lights hanging above create the impression of honey dripping. There is also a lovely patio in the back for outdoor seating. If you get a chance to use the bathroom, you'll be greeted by a beautiful, playful art display that captures the vibrant Pacific Beach mural found around town. I think this place was not organized as the staff were running around without their heads. Overall, yes this place is nicely decorated but it has nothing else to offer. You might not be as lucky (as us) and have to sit outside. And if you're even more unlucky, you will be sitting underneath the direct sun, next to the restaurant's main trash bin. I love the ambience of the restaurant, and the decor inside the restaurant. You can tell that the owner put a lot of thought into the interior design, even the bathroom was beautiful. Service wise, it was a little bit too slow in my opinion, when we try to flag the waitress down for something, it would take them quite a long time before getting to our request. Food wise, I was most impressed with their kids meal spaghetti, it was absolutely delicious. But the waffle wise, it was really doughy and tasted like the Costco waffles. The quality just isn't there for the price I hate to write bad reviews on a small business but they need to do so much better in regards to food if they're going to charge premium pricing. I ordered a Montecristo sandwich with potatoes, the potatoes were the best thing I ordered nice and crispy. Also got a cinnamon roll and a banana brûlée latte and strawberry matcha. The Montecristo was dry, the egg was not cooked all the way on one side it was still soggy, it didn't have enough of the jam or powdered sugar. The cinnamon roll tasted like it was just microwaved, it was hard and not good. The banana brûlée was ok and the strawberry matcha was better. I've been wanting to check this place out for a while it's just down the street from me. It is street parking only and there are meters. The ordering and paying process is what I did not like about this place. So when you get seated at your table there's a QR code to see the menu and order from which right then I'm not really a fan. I actually like to have a server so that I can ask them about an item on the menu if needed. Also a lot of items were sold out on the menu. I went at 1:00 p.m. on a Saturday and the pasta I wanted was sold out. As were some of the lattes. You also pay immediately after ordering and leave a tip then as well. Why would I tip before I've gotten my food or been served. A tip is for good service and yet I'm tipping right away. That makes no sense I also have no waitress. Just someone who literally dropped off my plate and went on their way. I hope that they change that about the place as it's not very welcoming or inviting. Also then if you want to get something else say an ice cream or Sunday after as it's a Creamery as well. You have to reorder on the app and go through the process again. I ordered the pesto shrimp pasta and it was just okay. Nothing to write home about. I also got the hazelnut latte iced and I enjoyed that more than my food. Also one of the workers had a baby on her hip the majority of the time as she was working. I feel that's very unprofessional. And if the child was off of her head for a second it was walking around the restaurant. I'm assuming it was the owners but that's very unprofessional and not safe. The ambience is nice though. First off, this place is absolutely adorable! The decor is charming, and I loved the atmosphere. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and had no trouble finding parking. We were greeted right away and quickly seated. The staff are very friendly, but I wasn't a fan of the ordering system. You either have to use a QR code to place and pay for your order at the table or go up to the cashier to order and pay there. I ordered the breakfast pot pie with a side of sausage, and unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. It took about 25 minutes to prepare, which they did let me know in advance, but the flavors were completely lacking. The pie crust was dry and overcooked, and the filling was just bland eggs with barely any sausage--despite the $4.50 add-on. My friend had the short rib Benedict sandwich, which tasted great, but had way too much bread for what little meat. The side of crispy potatoes, though, was fantastic. The pricing is reasonable, but the add-ons are pricey. I also tried the honey lavender iced latte, which was delicious, but on the sweeter side--just a heads-up if you prefer less sugar. One big plus: they allow dogs! The staff were incredibly accommodating and even reimbursed us for the disappointing breakfast pie plus threw in two free cookies! Once you are seated, you place your order by scanning a QR code, which can be efficient, but the problem is that you also leave a tip at that time without knowing what type of service you will be receiving. The Banana Brûlée latte was good and had the banana flavor. I noticed people ordering drinks at the counter to go, as well. The breakfast sandwich I ordered was decent, but I probably wouldn't get again. The cinnamon roll was good, but kind of small for the price point. I came with a party of 5 on a Saturday at 11:30. We had to wait in line for about 35 minutes. They didn't have a sign up sheet or anything, you just talk to an employee and they tell you to get in one line for parties of 2 or another line for parties of 3 or more. They seat people based on what size table becomes available, it doesn't seem like it is first come first serve. We asked for menus to look at while we were in line, I highly recommend doing that so you already know what you want when you are finally seated. Once we were seated we were told to scan the QR code to look at the menu and to order from there. Some of us couldn't scan the QR code, and the ones who could couldn't complete the order because there wasn't any service. We had to flag down a server to take our order. I personally ordered the Lavendar Matcha with oat milk and extra Lavendar syrup, the Bacon Wrapped Medallions and a side order of Mozzarella Sticks. Everything I ordered was incredible and it looked so beautiful. My meat could have been a bit more rare, but the bacon was so tasty, the eggs were cooked perfectly, I liked the potatoes and the berries were nice and sweet. I also really loved the black plates. All of our drinks came in plastic to-go cups which I did not especially like. The plastic opening on my lid cut my top lip, so definitely not a fan of that. We eventually had to go find a server to get our check. Every employee we spoke with was so kind and really pleasant. We felt really welcome and like our business was appreciated. It was really busy and the restuarant doesn't have a ton of seating so I could see people in line and the ones in my party getting frustrated by the wait. But just be prepared that you may have to wait a while and you will be fine. Parking is street parking, so good luck. I found a spot around the corner that didn't have any time limit. Place is crowded though and more people keep coming. Not sure what caused the back up in the kitchen. If the use of QR codes only or the fact that the place is packed. Sucks that you have to pay for food up front and tip before you get to experience the service. I'm now at 40 mins and waiting. If there was a way to deduct the tip to account for my wait time maybe I'd add another star. Cool ambiance. Chicken was bland. Waffles had that churro texture and were too caramelized for me.
