Huckleberry's is a delightful change from our standard breakfast /brunch restaurants. A place to tickle your taste buds with something not typical in our Bay Area. The theme is New Orleans and the menu reflects both the sweet and savory aspects of the town. We were a group seven and shared tastes. All the dishes were remarkably tasty. The fried green tomatoes do not have to be ordered, they come as a garnish and are delicious. The beignets and crepes come with huckleberries and are the best you will find in our area. The egg dishes and bananas foster portions are very generous. The burger is sumptuous. The food was just delightful and very ample. My husband got one of the specials with caramel pecan pancakes and they were soft and sweet. I got the stuffed french toast with huckleberry and it was stuffed well and warm. Not too sweet in my opinion. The country potatoes were okay, not seasoned too well and the peppers in mine were crunchy. I revisited Huckleberry's after two years, since I had heard how great it was. I think it was fine, but not great. My friend and I ordered the banana foster plate with bananas foster French toast. We counted four small pieces of banana on it! It looked like a sad version of the picture on the menu. Also got the fried chicken and waffle stack. It was pretty good, though I felt like the fried chicken was a little overcooked. I felt like everything was very average, nothing really stood out to me. Service was pretty fast. I was glad they didn't have a huge wait for a weekend brunch but that might be because there are better places out there. read more

I really wish armadillo willies was still here, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a Louisiana occasion style restaurant brunch place pop-up! I love New Orleans, and I need to go back!! As I picked up food for my aunt and niece and nephew, I didn't know what to get so I got an assortment of different items. We got an omelette that was basically Vegetarian, but it only had one slice of avocado on it when that was supposed to be a main ingredient. Hee. Chicken and waffles, fried green tomatoes. A sandwich and the beet Trio so we could try the different flavors. My family all loved their food, and as I cut up the rest of the omelette for my nephew to eat, I sadly found a black circular curly hair in the cheese.Eekk gats! Since we basically ate the whole thing, I figured it wasn't worth reporting to the restaurant. The omelette that stuff was delicious and the only thing I was sad about was the lack of avocado. But everything else tasted delicious! I also might how big their menu was! They had a great assortment of savory and sweet dishes, which I truly appreciated as well as sandwiches so if you wanted to do something lighter or potentially split it with somebody you could. First time coming to this location. I have been to one in Palm Beach and enjoyed the food there. We came with my mom and siblings this time. They are practically regulars they like it so much. I wasn't feeling breakfast so I got the fried catfish. It had a good breading and crispy texture. I also got the Huckleberry lemonade..My toddler loved the berries and practically ate all of them. She got a kids pancake breakfast but focused more on the berries. I tried the waffles and I would definitely get them next time. I like a nice little crunch outside and soft inside. Holy Smokes!!! I mean Beignets ... I've always loved breakfast and boy oh boy did I get a good one. The hazard of my extensive travel schedule is I get a chance to eat at many new restaurants. I had a leisurely morning so I yelped the closest breakfast joint to my hotel. First to appear on the map and a healthy 4.5 star rating? Huckleberry's! When I arrived around 7:30am on a Tuesday the place was virtually empty. Daniela sat me at a lovely booth and handed me their fabulous Menu. Standard breakfast fare with a Cajun twist, and a beignet that was put on my table complimentary. Soooooo happy that happened because it was a highlight. Buttery cream base, then an option of Huckleberry, strawberry and peaches. Yes, I tried them ALL! For my main dish I built an omelette of andouille sausage, mushrooms, avocado and cheddar cheese. This is two in a row for me on "perfect" omelettes. Even better, the crispy and well seasoned hash browns. A sensational breakfast top to bottom. Daniela had my excellent coffee topped off nonstop, and her smile, friendliness and perfect service made my morning just that much better. I was craving a breakfast meal so I thought I'd give Huckleberry's a try. Overall I had a good experience. I was greeted and seated without delay, handed a menu, and informed they were out of fried green tomatoes. Not a big deal because I was after breakfast foods. This location is the old Armadillo Willy's and you can see hints of the old Willy's in this new restaurant. Everything was very clean. No stickiness on the table. Nice and tidy! I was torn between a basic waffle and the Bananas Foster French Toast platter. The latter comes with fried green tomatoes, eggs, and bacon and was what I wanted the most. I don't like eggs so I would have ordered sans eggs and asked what the substitution options were for fried green tomatoes as those were not available. I was told the fried green tomatoes were considered "garnish" so I simply wouldn't receive them. I thought it was odd that they're an appetizer item you can order and pay for from the menu but considered a garnish on another dish, but whatever. I honestly expected to be offered something else to round out the plate. At almost $20, the dish would bee too expensive for just the French toast and bacon, so I went with the waffle. The waffle was excellent. Light and crisp on the outside with enough substance to it. Neither too thin and not too dense. The bacon was ok. I've had worse but I've also had better. I like that they provide an assortment of jellies and flavored creamers at the table, neither of which you see these days. The service was impeccable. I felt that the customer service was the absolute high point of my visit. Top notch! It's nice when the staff seem to enjoy what they're doing and treat customers as though they're valued. Service was so unexpectedly good that I give extra points for this alone. They're in a strip mall and parking is pretty abundant. The tomatoes just tasted like oil. The fries didn't have enough seasoning and were completely soggy, not crunchy and fun. We had the Fish dish with the jambalaya rice which was ok, the rice was good. We also had 2 chicken salads. The portion was ok I guess not too big nor small. The amount of chicken was tiny, I was expecting a bigger protein portion. 1/4 avocado that had black spots so I had to ditch half of it, the hard boiled egg was ok. We asked no bacon and dressing on the side which was great. The toast that comes with it was a little redundant and had no flavor so none of us ate it. It'll be better to offer croutons instead in my personal opinion. The salad was very underwhelming... like 2/5. The fish was a 4/5. I liked the water being served in mason jars. The server asked for our opinion but we felt it'll be too much to share for now so we just mentioned the fries seasoning. We had a great time at Huckleberry's! We've come a handful of times now, each time I keep bringing more people and so far everyone is pleased. Their food is good, service is phenomenal and the southern bayou decor is fun! Restaurant has good seating, good for large groups, and comfortable booths. Menu highlights include their 1/2 lb chicken fried steak, the bananas foster french toast platter and the seasonal spiced pumpkin pie pancakes platter. I absolutely adore their southern peach iced tea! It comes in a huge mason jar with a spoon to eat the peach slices that have been soaking in the tea. Things I'd skip next time would be the mimosa and Monte Cristo, it just wasn't too my liking when there's so many other great menu offerings. Flavoring on the mimosa wasn't bright and the sandwich wasn't crispy or cheesy enough and deflated after a couple bites. The bananas foster french toast stand out the most to me, tasty, filling and I love the crispy fried green tomatoes that accompanied it. I finally ordered delivery several days ago and the breakfast was amazing. I had the Tom's Scramble, which is a sliced biscuit topped with sausage, scrambled eggs, and country gravy. It was excellent with red potatoes and onions on the side. And huge! The gravy was thick and flavorful (I've eaten at places where the gravy had no flavor whatsoever). We tried this on a Sunday, We arrived at 2pm, were seated right away, It took our server Antonia 15 minutes to come and get our orders. It took another 15 minutes for that food to arrive. Food arrived, we had no utensils. We had to flag someone to ask for them. One of our orders came with a side of sourdough toast, That took an extra 5 minutes to arrive. Food was alright, nothing to crow about. Portions generous. But with service like this, when the restaurant was not full, it sadly does not merit a return visit. My wife was hungry after her doctor's appointment so I decided to cone to Huckleberry's since we been to the Sacramento location a few times. There were only two servers when we came in so we figured it will take a little longer to get our food but service was still a lot faster than when we went to the Sacramento location on a weekend. The inside was very spacious and had a lot of seating. We decided to start off with alcoholic drinks since it's brunch. I ordered the spicy bloody mary and my wife order the alligator bite. The spicy bloody mary had a really good kick and it did not take away from the flavor. The alligator bite is very fruity but can be dangerous since you cannot taste the alcohol. I finished my spicy bloody mary and ordered another one but I forgot to tell the staff to make it spicy so I got the original. The bloody mary was ok but it tasted watered down without the spice. I definitely recommend the spicy bloody mary since it packs a lot more flavor and doesn't taste watered down. I usually order the country fried steak but decided to switch it up and got the chicken waffle this time around. I ordered gravy on the side since I like the gravy at Huckleberry's when I order the chicken fried steak. The top of the waffle was very sweet and soft due to the maple but the chicken was pretty tender and the bottom waffle was still soft but not sweet at all. Dipping the waffle chicken sandwich into the gravy balanced the flavor nicely, My wife ordered the New Orleans skillet and it was pretty good. The shrimp was cooked perfectly where it was not dry and chewy. The toppings went very well with the meats. The portion is very generous so if you are not that hungry or a light eater, either share a dish or you can pack your leftover and enjoy it for lunch or dinner. I didn't realize there was a Huckleberry in San Jose but I am glad there is one. If you are in the area during breakfast or lunch time, give this place a try. On a recent trip back to the Bay Area our family grabbed breakfast here. When we lived in hare this was the location of Armadillo Willy's BBQ. The restaurant has a southern/Louisiana vibe. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was average at best. We had the Fried Green Tomatoes, Beignets, the Crepes, and the New Orleans skillet. It was all just...meh. Now, I have been to New Orleans, spent time in the south, and my mom cooked great southern food so I have experienced the real deal... and this was not it. Not that it was bad but just not authentic. The service was really really great though. The expereince made us wish we had gone to our favorite breakfast spot instead (Jack Holders Country Inn). read more

I've been wanting to give Huckleberry's a try since they opened and last weekend I finally did! My daughter, son-in-law and grandson joined me which is always fun. Plenty of parking and when I arrived, I was greeted warmly by the staff and seated in a comfy booth. Or server was wonderful in every way and she deserved 5 Stars for sure. The ambiance was casual and felt very "bayou" which was fun. I was a little surprised at how many open tables there were for a Sunday morning. The menu is pretty large with lots of options so we had a tough time deciding but here's what we got: Two skillet breakfasts - these were both decent but mostly potato which was disappointing. Both my grandson and daughter only ate 1/2. They came with either biscuits or a muffin and they got one of each. Biscuit was just okay and really didn't get eaten. The muffin was the better option. Chicken Friend Steak & Eggs - SIL said it was just okay. Banana Froster French toast platter - the best thing about this was the crispy bacon and fried green tomatoes! None of us cared for the French toast at all. It was oddly not very sweet. Late and Caramel Mocha were good and the Strawberry Lemon aid was huge! Over all we were pretty underwhelmed with all of our dishes and the fact that the bill came to well over $100 was equally disappointing. I don't think we'll be back. read more

Me and my family went for the first time. We decided to take a little drive. When we walked in we were greeted right away to be seated. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner after we were seated. Very nice guy! After, we were seated we were told our server will be with us shortly. Well she did walk by and said I will be right with you. We actually waited fifteen minutes before she came to ask if we would like to order something to drink. We did and also ordered our food. We weren't offered any water in the meantime. My daughter ordered a cranberry juice, when our server bought back our drinks she said they were out of cranberry juice. My daughter then said she will take a strawberry lemonade. She bought out apple juice and apologized took it back and bought out the strawberry lemonade. The server said she was sorry she was new and on her second day. She bought out our complimentary beignets which were really good although we had to ask for our silverware to eat them. Our food came out about twenty minutes later and the food was all so delicious. Once we were done eating and asked for the bill. I noticed we were charged for the complimentary beignets when I showed my email for signing up for. The server apologized and removed it from our bill. Our server was very nice and I give honest reviews. Yes, I recommend trying them out just be prepared for a wait for the food. I just didn't like that we had to ask for our silverware, forgetting not to charge for our complimentary item, the wait to order something to drink and the wrong drink being bought out. I think being put in the back corner made the team forget we were here . The calorie count on each item is dangerously high but the portions were quite larger than expected. Biscuit is just not bad - nothing to be excited for The red potatoes - just okay with minimal / no seasoning - I'd skip them. The Benedict - the egg was fully cooked and didn't have the expected oozing yolk goodness that would have mixed with the sauce. Omelette - not bad , 3 eggs so the size was pretty big. Ultimately it was okay. Not bad not great. Come by if you want a Cajun twist to your brunch - but otherwise maybe elsewhere for your brunch fix Not a major issue by there is also terrible data connection inside - so our wait was ever so slightly more painful.
