My first visit to this establishment. Came on a Sunday afternoon w/ my little family of four. Place was small & busy, but was seated immediately. FOOD ORDER: Com Ga Roti Dac Biet (Vietnamese Rotisserie Chicken Rice w/ house special sauce) I opted for this dish. This was one of the best rotisserie chicken's I've had in a while. The crunch as soon as I took a bite of the chicken was astounding. That house special sauce tho! It was a sweet garlic soy sauce flavor. SO YUMMY! The dish also included some sliced cucumbers & pickled cabbage which was also appetizing. Bun Bo Hue (Hue Style Beef Noodle Soup) My husband picked this dish. He ordered it spicy of course. As soon as the waitress brought out the soup, I could smell the aroma of it. It smelled heavenly. The soup came with a side of garnishments such as the cabbage, mint, basil, banana blossom, & coriander leaves. He enjoyed his dish. The broth was flavorful & were really generous with the meats. I tried Bun Bo Hue and Banh Beo here from the reviews. Eeeeeh! Very minimum standard portion of 1-3 pieces of different types of protein fixings. I did not get throbbing headache or extreme thirsty afterwards... meaning either no MSG or very subtle or other flavour enhancer. Banh Beo was ordinary with minced shrimp and 2 pieces pork skin (they were pre-made plain chicharon from some bag of chips). Service was attentive and excellent. read more

My third visit to this establishment. I've been to Vietnam and garnishment are big part of soup based noodles. I ordered spicy beef and pork noodle aka Bun Bo Hue all the time. The noodle soup is the staple. It comes with garnishment that I recommend. Pluck out the mint, basil, coriander leaves. Then add beanspouts, cabbage, banana blossom (purplish), squeeze all the lemon and chilli. Mix it good. Savor all it like there's no tomorrow. You'll thank me. Taste is out of this world better than pho. Parking is not big, right few establishment over, there's coffee shop. It's called Nguyen but I am not sure if this coffee is the chain famous spot at Vietnam. I may stop by someday. I added the chili oil provided to make it spicyy. It definitely reminds me of how my mom makes her's. I ate there but a lot of people also came in to get takeout. My mom got the mi quang and we were surprised the noodles were white and not the usual yellow :o. The noodles were softer than we would like but overall decent. We got a complimentary dessert too: a soymilk flavored jello/pudding? Not too sweet and a perfect ending to the meal. I'm still on the hunt for my favorite Bun Bo Hue spot and thought I'd give Hue Kitchen a try. Parking can get pretty filled on a busy weekend but I found parking easily, and there's also street parking. Upon entering, it was pretty busy, it wasn't noisy inside and the restaurant inside looked very clean. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. I ordered #1 - Simple Bun Bo Hue, but there are other variations on the menu. They don't put the Chili sauce in your broth, the sauce is on the table for you to adjust how spicy or not you want it. After adding some of it in, I still felt like the broth was just missing a punch to it. Then realized I think it could use more lemon grass in it. I'd rate this bowl a 3.5/5. I did appreciate the herbs/veggies that came with the noodles. A lot of restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley don't give all the herbs/veggies like how it should be given. This is my favorite buon bo hue place ever! They're so consistent with their flavor and their bowls I always crave this when I need something to wake me up or refresh me. This quaint little restaurant is cozy, and the service staffs are friendly and polite. The place was fairly full on a Monday evening right at the height of dinner rush, which is a good sign. I ordered the bánh bột lọc (tapioca dumpling) as a starter and a bowl of bánh canh tôm thịt cua miền trung, which basically a central region viet-style udon like noodles with morsels of crab meat, shrimp, and pork. Now this being listed as a central region Bánh Canh, there are certain expectations. First the fat udon-like noodles would typically made from wheat, not rice or tapioca flour. Second, the broth would be thick and rich, not clear and light. And that was what I was expecting. However, what was served was definitely not central region. It was sort of a hybrid of central and mostly southern style of noodles soup, which is a rice-based flour, and the broth is not thick and rich. Was the food good? Yes. The dumplings were nicely wrapped in bite-sized which is how it should be. The noodles soup was full of umami, loaded with crab meat, and the shrimp were big and fresh with a nice bite. The chả tôm (shrimp paste ham) was flavorful and delicious. The only thing that irks me is I was looking forward to a central style of dish and was disappointed by what was served. The parking situation was not fun because it is shared with a coffee shop and we basically had to wait for a parking spot to open up. However, my family was seated within 40 minutes. Not too bad, but not the fastest since the restaurant is smaller. We ordered the appetizer which was really good, and I would come back just for this. There used to be a lot of good restaurants and then it got saturated with so many new restaurants and everybody just wanna make a buck. Didn't put any effort in the quality or the freshness of the ingredients. Stopped here on a whim the other day since I remember this restaurant popping up a few weeks ago while picking up food nearby. I'm a fan of Bun Bo Hue, and have often checked out the different spots in the Little Saigon area for BBH - picking up how different restaurants like to add their touch to the dish, so was curious how Hue Kitchen's BBH would fare. Parking was easy - HK is the only open business in the newer looking plaza - so I was able to grab a spot right upfront. Service was prompt and friendly. I was greeted right away as I entered and directed to pick where to seat. I initially sat at a table, but realizing how empty the place was, moved to a more comfortable booth. The menu here is simple - which is a plus - they have three different types of BBH - differences being additional meat options. I opted for the #3, which was BBH with beef bone, as well as a fresh lemon soda drink (not sprite/7up, this is Vietnamese style carbonated lemon drink), which was refreshing for an otherwise warm day. The BBH came out well portioned, with plenty of protein. I had a nice side plate of veggies which included cabbage, lime, vietnamese greens, and banana blossom. The server had told me that the dish comes out non-spicy, and I can add chili (already on the table) to my preferred spicy level. First thing I noticed is that the broth is clean and clear - lacking lemongrass, among other distinct BBH flavors. I know that different places make different styles, but you'd think that the broth would be kept as close to traditional as possible. This is like pho broth without star anise. Other reviewers have mentioned the noticeable absence of lemongrass to the BBH broth here. Overall, the meal was filling - and service was good. Ventilation could be better here - I usually pack a mini-fan when I eat noodle soup, but somehow forgot to bring mine in today. Since the place has barely been open for a little over a month now, I imagine there are still kinks they need to work out - so I'll return in a few weeks to see if the BBH has improved. I was craving Bun Bo Hue, so we came here to try out what they had. For our appetizer, we ordered the banh beo, which was good. For my drink, I ordered the sugarcane drink with strawberry--super yummy! Onto the soup... Like other reviews have stated, the BBH was lacking flavor, but I added some chili oil and it somewhat helped the taste. I was disappointed because my soup didn't have any pork hock in it, and that's typically my favorite meat in the dish. I wish there was a bigger variety of meats in the dish like cha lua and pork hock.. but it was mainly just beef/pork slices that were lackluster in taste. On the positive side, food came out fast, and I liked the complimentary dessert at the end, which I think was a soy milk pudding. For the month of December we went here 4 times! Yes, it was so good that I had to take my parents, then my wife's brother, then my wife's parents, and another time for my buddy's birthday. Yes, this place is that damn good, we even went on Christmas Day. I've tried the bun bo que tai (w/ rare beef), the ga roti (chicken), the banh canh, the fish cake noodle. All of them were good, but that is the order that I'd rank them. My mother-in-law is notoriously picky with viet food. She specifically said, "this place uses little MSG because I do not need to add a lot of lime to add brightness to the bun bo que. When there is a lot of msg you can't taste the lime at all." The service was very good even on Christmas Day. My mother-in-law requested extra hot soup because she likes her soup piping hot. They obliged and also gave us free dessert after.
