I was eager to try Jack and zharry for the Cajun good, bbq shrimp, gumbo, and the works. Took the wife in for an early Saturday night dinner. We walk in without reservations, but we're met and welcomed to sit at the bar. Place had a very large bar and beautiful interior with. Ice jazzy ambiance. We ordered the gumbo and bbq shrimp to start. Flavors had nice depth and taste. The only feedback was that everything both dishes tasted overtly sweet. The food was enjoyable, but Ilwished it was mirrors balanced. So instead of an entree, we decided to not chance it, and went to dessert for something that should he sweet. We ordered thr banana Foster cheesecake. The dessert was the best part of the meal. I was optimistic that this would be my place tajse of Nawlins but unfortunately, it was not there for me. read more

Had a 7:00 reservation Saturday night but was not seated until 7:40! I don't mind waiting 15 minutes (I could see they were slammed) but this was unacceptable. The hostess was nice and apologized for the delay, but traditionally when a restaurant makes you wait 40 minutes for your table they offer something... a round of drinks, appetizers or dessert to make things right. But nadda. On the positive side, we were given a great table and the ambience was very nice. Our server was pleasant but seemed a bit overwhelmed. I had the Snapper and while tasty the center was a little too firm like it was slightly undercooked. My wife had the Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffée and while the flavor was very good the seafood seemed either very small or possibly chopped. The overall consistency was like thick soup. When you get Etouffée you expect to see some seafood. We do enjoy neighborhood restaurants so will probably give J&H another try. read more

My fifth visit and a complete mess. Went at 515 for happy hour. All space near bar was full so we sat in first booth in dining room Ordered 4 Martinis. Waiter took order and then came back and said happy hour price did not apply to dining room. We said we wanted to sit in bar but it was full. Got the drinks anyway. Then ordered a dozen oysters. Waiter said he had two types of I said 6 of each. We ordered two dozen. After three people showed up with four large plates of fried oysters. Not what we wanted. We want raw oyster on happy hour specials. To keep pease we kept them. They good but a lot of food for appetizers. Ordered nice bottle of wine. Waiter pushed for main course but we were full of fried oysters. We left and paid bill of over $ 200.00. For happy hour hour. A real rip off. It maybe was my fault I did not make it prefect clear we wanted raw not expensive fried. May not return as no seem to care they got the order wrong. read more

My boyfriend and I had a double date here on Friday evening. We had a decent time but it quickly went downhill when we got home. It wasn't even an hour before I got violently ill. The oysters Rockefeller must not have been cooked properly. My friends also got very sick when they returned home. I informed the manager the following day and he seemed very professional. He said he was taking it very seriously and would get back to me within 24 hours to let me know what could've possibly happened. I never got a call back. Combined, the 4 of us spent about $600 or more on dinner that night. I have to say I've had far superior experiences for that amount of money, and none of them ended in food poisoning. I really had high hopes for this place but unfortunately I was left extremely disappointed and very very sick. read more

I went last night for my B Day dinner. I liked it...a lot. the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it was really loud. I got the Rib-Eye. it seems to have been cooked or at least basted in clarified butter. I'm not 100% sure I loved the flavor but it was different and not bad at all. we also got the crawfish beignets... those were freaking good. I want to figure out how to make their roumelade sauce. we also had the roasted carrots. they have some horseradish in them, once again a different flavor but not bad. The Pomme Frites were good if you like Pomme frites but if you're a dry guy you'll be slightly disappointed. What I will say is that this is what Pappas Steakhouse should be. it gave me an upscale New Orleans vibe. Our waiter was nice but every menu item we asked about was his favorite. Like bro everything can't be your favorite. Really the only criticisms I have is that it was really loud and it was in the expensive side. Considering the menu & where it is the price point fits but it's definitely kinda expensive. read more

Beautifully designed, darkly lit restaurant and bar in Snyder Plaza with lots of booth seating, significantly more upscale than others in the area. The staff was pleasant and professional. The caesar and simple salads were excellent, and the shrimp cocktail was above average. However, the filet and Delmonico Ribeye, despite being perfectly chargrilled, were nearly flavorless and sat in an overly soupy mix of butter and oil, detracting from our meal. The chocolate cake was dry, but the Oreo ice cream sandwich was outstanding, possibly one of the best desserts I've ever had. There were minor service issues, like not receiving our ordered crab cake beignets, but considering the restaurant had only been open for 2 days, the friendly and positive attitude of the staff made up for it. No valet, but parking was easy to find on a Saturday night. Definitely recommend trying, perhaps choosing something other than the steak for your entree. read more

Tried Jack n Harry's a week or so ago for their grand opening. They were on their "A" game. The food was delicious, the staff attentive and on point. The wine manager really knows his stuff. My wife and I plan to revisit very soon. read more

Bar Service is weak. It took the staff of 3 with only 9 people at the bar way too long to take my order, refill my tea and tab me out. They need to pay attention and focus on tasks at hand and less chatting with each other. BUT the food was very, very good! read more

The food was pretty good all around but everything is smothered in butter or gravy. It's comparable to Hudson House, but not as good and WAY overpriced for what you get. Seems like they are trying for a more upscale version of their current concepts but did not hit the mark. I ordered steak frites and was encouraged to upgrade to filet as people had complained about portion size for the steak frites. I did upgrade and was then charged separately for the fries so the cost was double what I had originally ordered (I had assumed the fries would not be an additional expense as that was not made clear). It is extremely loud and crowded and you have to yell just to hear your table. People continually bumped into us. The servers kept stacking plates next to our booth so they were constantly clanking every 3-5 minutes. Overall there are just better options with better ambiance, pricing and food. Their other concepts are great so hopefully they figure it out! read more

The rise of Art Vandelay has astounded me! From humble latex salesman to importer/exporter to architect and now successful restauranteur, is there anything this guy can't do? Jack & Harry's is Mr. Vandelay's newest joint, fashioned after a New Orleans-style steakhouse. The decor matches this to a T. You'll notice the lovely dark green awning out front, and maybe I'm sentimental, but that design choice seems to have all but disappeared in recent years. Inside, there's a tremendous bar area with exposed wooden ceiling beams, comfy olive-tinted booths, and an old-world dining area that has been accurately replicated even despite the brief renaissance of mid-century modern, like I always mention, revamping the last year or so. The French Martini was incredible! It was unexpectedly frothy and tasted like liquid raspberry candy. The Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail was superb! The Oysters St. Claude were delicious! And these were just the starters! The Le Relais Steak Frites was what I had decided upon for a main course, and the presentation was really something to behold, with a mountain of skinny fries loaded onto my plate. My only complaint is that the ratio of fries to steak felt pretty disproportionate, as there were only a few slivers of steak that I finished in no time at all. I managed to sample the French Onion Filet Mignon Dinner, and that lived up to its name tenfold. I might order that one next time instead. The White Truffle, Crayfish Mac & Cheese is what really did me in, though. That stuff is dangerously good! And to top it all off, the desert was a banana-cinnamon cheesecake, I believe, served flambéed! I actually loathed how full I was at this point because I wanted to eat the whole thing. Jack & Harry's is another excellent Vandelay addition. I would give it an extra star, and I do think after a few months, this place will fine-tune things in such a way that I have no doubt it will get there. I typically never write reviews, however me and my husband were regulars here and they recently updated their menu. I used to crave the redfish, as it was one of the best things on the menu. As of this week, they have updated the recipe where the redfish that was previously very flavorful and come in a bed of sauce with crab beignets, is now very dry and comes with plain salty rice. I am very disappointed as dining here is normally something we look forward to. read more

I had really high hopes because I LOVE Hudson House. We went for my husband's birthday. We were seated pretty quickly (because we made reservations), but it took at least 10 minutes before we were acknowledged by our server. I was tempted to ask her if she was mad at us because she walked past us a few times without a greeting. We ordered dirty vodka martinis. They were ok. Have had much better at HH. The chargrilled oysters were good. We looked at the wine list. Really? Okay, wine by the glass it is. My simple salad was delicious. My husband's gumbo was terrible. This is a New Orleans inspired restaurant with weak, tasteless gumbo with crunchy okra is a sin. My husband had the steak frites which he said was good, but nothing special. I had the mussels which were delicious. But why not serve it with French bread to sop up that delicious sauce? And throughout our visit service was very slow. For a birthday celebration, we were looking forward to dessert. No beignets? LOL. The other options did not interest us. We went to Dairy Queen for blizzards. Overall, this was a miss. Definitely overpriced. I really wanted to like it. But I doubt we will be back. Some changes are needed. read more

I have been thinking about how to craft this review for more than two weeks. Visitors please aware that common sense does not apply to this fairly new restaurant in snider plaza. We visited for a birthday celebration Valentines week. We had a DINNER reservation for 5:30. Three of us arrived in a timely fashion to find parking a disaster with the entire parking lot in front of the restaurant torn up. One of our part of four was running late. The bar was packed as it was still happy hour. People were hovering over every seat. We were informed that we would not be seated until the entire party was there. See above - our fourth member could not find a parking place and had been circling the Construction zone for 30 min. People wished for our bar seats - restaurant said " it is policy not to seat you until the entire party is here and I am doing my job." Right. There were fourteen empty four tops in the restaurant - I counted. Still they would not sit us. We should have said the fourth member wasn't coming rather than saying she was circling the mess of parking lot where Jack and Harry's sits . The policy - intended to help turn tables - didn't do its job. We did not drink at the bar- others waiting could not drink at the bar - and we were not seated. As a result - we were there longer than we needed to be - later than we should have been for the next reservation and people who wanted to be at the bar couldn't purchase drinks easily. A three person table is the same as a four top - this was absurd. Policy yes but management needs to teach hostesses and their managers to use common sense. The snarky team tried to make it better by providing a champagne and dessert but the damage had been done. The gesture was appreciated but our first 15 minutes concentrated on the poor overall experience and the lack of common sense inspired in staff members. Our server was lovely and friendly and the food was nice enough - but not nice enough to make this group of four return any time soon. The atmosphere is cozy, clubby, and should be welcoming . Again - this was for a 5:30 reservation - hardly a dinner rush at this time ! Make sure you are aware of the "policy" the construction in the parking lot, and the lack of common sense initiative here, for a pricey menu that is ok but not great enough to make it okay to treat customers like this. read more

Best meal I've had in a long time! Was taken to a surprise dinner to a restaurant I'd never heard of and am glad I was. We shared the Caesar salad and wish we would've each gotten one. I had the steak frites for dinner and it was outstanding. Perfectly cooked with a great sauce and the best french fries I've had in any restaurant for a long time. The leftover fries soaking in the herb sauce was what nearly put me over the edge, I couldn't stop eating. The BBQ shrimp was also excellent. Service was perfect - my water glass never got empty and he was always there just when we needed him. No cocktails this time around, but will certainly partake on the next visit. Took my family for a Father's Day dinner. We we are all foodies and weren't impressed. There are so many good restaurants in Dallas, this one doesn't live up to it's hype. Poor service, our waiter was constantly at 1 particular table, forgot drinks completely and our entrees came out 10 minutes apart. Food was sub par. I realize they are not fully functional yet, so decided to go easty on them.. ordered a gumbo realizing its hard to destroy that dish.. well low and behold.. a bowl of goop arrived.. some dreadful over salted broth with some sticky rice and 4 pieces of half cooked Okra.. also ordered a Gin Fizz. .not half bad. Was polite and gave my honest opinion to the bar staff.. was greeted with a blank stare and have a nice day .. oh well. The ambiance is great. The barbecue shrimp with rice and toast points taste like a curry dish, not the New Orleans butter and spice. The gumbo also tastes like too much flour and was very thick, I only ate 1 bite. Misty our server asked if I liked it, I said no, it was inedible. My husband didn't eat his either. The stuffed mushrooms were good. We were a group of 6 celebrating a birthday. The Pimm's cup alcoholic beverage had 1 slice of cucumber and heavy on the ginger beer but no other fruit garnishes. I could not taste any lemonade or champagne substitutes. All other alcoholic beverages were fine. I ordered the red fish with rice, and a side of delicious roasted asparagus. Others at our table had the prime filets. One person ordered the muffaletta sandwich, it was served on regular toast bread not the crusty Sicilian sesame loaf but it did have the Italian meats and cheese. Harry's salad is delicious. I did not try the potato dish but it looked good. The rice with the red fish had an unusual taste almost like beer, not to my liking. The ambiance was fantastic. We spent $680 with tip. We love the ambiance, hopefully the chef will tweak some of the menu items. Otherwise stick with the prime filet, asparagus and salad, don't venture out. read more
