Ate here a recently, place is having sewage problems or something. It smelled so bad, and it was trying to be covered by cleaning chemicals. My guess is this restaurant should be torn down and built again. I'd recommend they exit this location it's going to ruin the brand and reputation Jack's has built. My food was okay but I would never go here again or even consider taking food to go. If youre worried about the money to destroy and rebuild a nice grease fire in the kitchen after everyone leaves would work! read more

Well I must say the food is great but service was slow. The restaurant was busy but we were seated immediately. We we're asked if we wanted anything to drink and my daughter asked for water with lemon but got no lemon. She asked for lemon three times before it was brought to her. 15 minutes later our order was taken. We both ordered the "Victorian Special" $9.99. It only took 10 minutes to come to our table and it was nice and tasty. Everything was cooked perfectly. Compliments to the chef! After finishing our meals we waited for the check but it never came so we went up front to pay, no big deal. I am giving 4 stars because the food is good but obviously not enough servers to handle the customers in a timely manner. Jack's is only open until 2pm. We decided to go to breakfast late and arrived here about 11:30 after realizing that our first choice, the Sparks Coffee shop was closed for Labor Day. We had about a five minute wait for a table. Waitress came about a minute after we sat down for our order so we let her know we needed more time. Took another ten minutes for her to return. I ordered Joe's scramble, my husband biscuits and gravy, my kids french toast breakfast and French dip. We waited for about 30 minutes for the food. My husband's arrived cold. Kids meal was great for the price. French dip was liked by my daughter. The other meals were fine. Nothing stand out. Toast is buttered with spread or margarine rather than real butter. Overall, forty bucks wasn't well spent for just an average experience. It was just ok. read more

However, the prices are a bit high for breakfast, and the table was dirty (there was hair on the table which will kill my appetite fast). I've been waiting to try Jack's Coffee Shop #2 for awhile and today turned out to be the perfect day! We went in as a party of 6 and we were seated immediately at a table in the back. After ordering drinks and looking over the menu I decided on the Chilaquiles with potatoes and 2 over medium eggs while my husband got the Chorizo Benedict. The food came out reasonably quick and looked amazing. My Chilaquiles were crispy and loaded with cheese and the homefries and eggs were tasty. My hubs said the chorizo benedict was top notch. The rest of our tables food looked just as good, this included a ham steak and eggs, country fried steak and eggs ×2, and a children's pancake platter. The service was wonderful and we were in and out in no time. I cant wait to come back for the scones I keep reading about. read more

This was close to the Ramada in Reno where I was staying, as I was walking to Denny's restaurant two blocks away, I saw Jack's across the street & decided to give them a try. The friendly waitress said this location had only been open for a few weeks. I tried the Manhandler, 2 eggs, two sausage links ,two large pancakes, and it tasted great. The two large pancakes could be a little fluffier, so they lost one star. I plan to eat here more this week. read more

This place was great. We wanted some good breakfast and that's what we got. They have a nice variety of breakfast items and lunch stuff. Pancakes were yummy but only partially fluffy. They had like a thin fluff to them. Additionally the pancakes were good because they weren't too sweet. They were just right. Also tried the biscuits and gravy with potatoes which was good too. I'm not sure if they make there own gravy but it was delicious. We also tried a veggie burger. It was real good. The only thing that sucked was that we order the veggie burger and asked for only the burger with no French fries but they still charged the regular price for the meal. I wish they would've deducted the price of the fries but oh well. Overall great place with average prices. read more

Jack's Cafe has moved into a long closed Carrow's that, frankly, had become something of an eyesore. On a recent Sunday, we decided to give it a try. The place was not particularly busy and we were seated immediately. The staff was friendly and efficient. Water and coffee appeared almost immediately. An immediate bonus was that in addition to conventional creamer, they had packets of Irish Cream (sorry, the non alcoholic version), French Vanilla, and Hazelnut flavoring as well. I expect that at 7 Eleven. I have never seen it in a restaurant. My avocado omelet was very good and the avocado was very fresh. The cook wisely put the avocado (about half of one) on top rather than trying to cook it (yes, I have had that experience). My wife's Eggs Benedict was also very, very good. She described the hollandaise sauce as "amazing" and not too rich. Scones are a $1 substitute for toast, and well worth every penny. The biggest negative is the noise level, fairly high but what you would expect in a restaurant designed to be a Carrow's. You won't be able to have an intimate conversation, but you won't have to shout, either. Prices are very reasonable, most meals under $12. We will return, but we won't be expecting to talk too much with each other. read more

Reno has become a nexus of brunch, with plenty of folks who apparently have time for that on a weekday morning. Most new entries in this category are family owned establishments, and the new Jack's Coffee Shop in Reno is carrying on a tradition that began in 1980's Sparks: taking over a chain location and turning it into a local favorite. The service was quick and friendly; despite the busy weekend traffic, it didn't take long to place our order or receive the food. Most of our group went with breakfast items, beginning with Jack's old fashioned smoked country bacon (with cheese) breakfast ($10.99). The bacon was broad strips of pork belly with more meat than typical American crispy bacon, somewhat akin to English bacon. Different and delicious. This was served with two eggs and a pile of crispy home fries drenched in a creamy cheddar cheese sauce. Normally served with a choice of toast, our diner substituted fried scones for an extra $1. I'm glad she did because these scones reminded me of home. While English scones are dry, baked, and crumbly, these were akin to the "Utah scone" of my childhood. Somewhere between Indian fry bread and Mexican sopapilla, they are light and puffy and wonderful. Next, classic country fried steak and eggs with home fries and choice of toast, English muffin, or biscuit ($10.99). Based on the description of the omelette we added cheese sauce to the fries for a buck and didn't regret it. The steak was average, very uniform and probably a purchased, frozen product; a knife was required to cut it. The gravy was also just so-so, with not a lot of seasoning or sausage. There are better examples of this dish in town, but it wasn't bad. Just not impressive. Shaking up breakfast a bit was a Buffalo chicken salad with chicken breast strips tossed in hot wing sauce, pico de gallo, tomato wedges, thick-sliced cucumber, grated cheddar and jack cheeses, a full, sliced boiled egg, blue cheese crumbles, and a pile of crispy tortilla strips ($9.99). The chicken was tender and the lettuce was dressed in a light vinaigrette. At first I thought it was a pretty great salad, but after a while the abundance of cheese became overwhelming. I. Love. Cheese. But this much raw cheese in a salad just kills every other flavor. Halfway in it seemed a plate of cheese was being lightly seasoned by a touch of salad. An order of eggs benedict with homefries and toast was pretty much an American diner classic ($9.99), The eggs were poached just fine, the home fries were crispy, and the toast was toast. The Hollandaise lacked any lemon zing, making me wonder if it came from a can rather than a chef's patience. Still, the diner who ordered it was perfectly happy with his meal, and I had to agree that it was average if acceptable. My wife upturned things a bit by ordering the Ultimate Omelette--normally stuffed with bacon and sausage--substituting avocado for the meat ($10.99). There was plenty of the green stuff inside and on top of the fluffy egg pillow, with grilled onion, mushroom, tomato, bell pepper, and cheddar cheese tucked inside. She added a side of pico de gallo and the end result was a flavor bomb. Apparently, my wife is a breakfast genius, and she thoroughly enjoyed her meal. read more

Very friendly staff! Quick with the delicious coffee, which was just what I needed. I hate breakfast, so I ordered the Ground Beef Taco Salad. The avacado was perfect And just the right amount of beans and sour cream. The Star of the show was their homemade salsa! It totally made my morning. For first two visits, they offered great service and food; As soon as I walked in the restaurant, my whole family received warm greetings from all staff who were at entrance, and was taken to seat right away. The waitress brought a cup of coffee in impeccable timing. We ordered Denver Omelette, Pancake set, Chicken Friend Steak, and Egg Benedict. All came out fairly quickly. My omelette was fluffy and hash brown was seasoned perfectly. My daughter loved their egg Benedict. Also, they come around frequently to offer coffee everytime they brew new pot. Unexpectedly, the third visit when I brought another family, was nothing like what I experienced before. When I walked in the restaurant, one employee was chatting with another employee, giving me a quick look, and continued chatting. After finishing up her conversation, she turn around and said"how many?" like we are bothering her. Horrible green chili and jack cheese omelet. No salsa and salt and pepper couldn't help it out. Toast had to be made last night as it was tough. I could see through my coffee which was gawd awful and had no taste. I wish I could say something better and give more stars but my only recommendation is to go Dennys across the street. We like to come to this place every time we are in town. The food is good, it's comfort food. Staff is friendly, and it's always seems to have plenty of customers. Worst experience ever! Ordered the senior pancake breakfast (One pancake, one egg and 2 pieces of bacon). The pancake came cold, we told the waitress and she said she would bring another pancake, she never did. When she brought the bill, I told her I would only pay for the bacon I ate. She charged me for the egg also. My two pieces of bacon cost me $6.50. We complained and asked for the manager when she told us she was. She refused to accommodate us and said it wasn't her fault I didn't eat the egg. Will never, never go there again after 25 years of recommending that restaurant to friends and family. Jack's version of scones...bleached white dough deep fried in ovals about 6 inches long. Very thin with upturned edges. Served with butter and honey. Similar to a sopapilla without the pocket. Definitely not what I had in mind when I ordered scones. The service was great, though! read more

We went to IHOP on Virginia st. but the line was too long so we headed to another location. I saw a chevron gas station on the way so I stopped to fuel up. Directly across the street I saw Jacks. I asked my daughter and she said ok lets try it. There were people constantly going in. I figured we'd better hurry up so we wouldn't have to wait. No wait. Immediately greeted amd seated. Nice! Coffee right away! Yes! Waitress showed up ready to take our order. I'm not ready. The menu is so tempting. Figured it out placed the order. Not a long wait. My daughter got the breakfast burrito.
