I’ve been there at least 10 times, and they’ve always had chicken sandwiches. It’s MUCH better than Chick fil A, and undoubtedly better than Popeyes. Best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had.

I had a sip, and the ube flavor really came through without overpowering the drink and it was perfectly matched with the dark rum, which Nate said came from the Caribbean. The Brussels sprouts had a nice mix of tender and crispy pieces that gave additional texture. The calamari was tender and the pesto style sauce paired real good with it. The Thai curry sea bass was flavorful, flaky, and had the right amount of spice. The cioppino had a rich shellfish flavor in the broth and I appreciated that the tomato base didn't have such an acidic taste. We also shared the tomahawk, which was juicy, cooked perfectly, and had a sprinkle of coarse salt that really brought out the flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was excellent, but Nate's service really made our night special, making us feel right at home.

That said, our waitress was absolutely amazing, friendly, attentive, and the highlight of our visit. She provided excellent service despite the circumstances and definitely deserves five stars. As we were getting seated, the hostess asked if we had been informed that they were having issues with their roof and that their barbecue was out of service. We had not been told anything about this prior to arriving. As a result, the menu was extremely limited, with no steaks or burgers available. This was especially frustrating because those were the main reasons our group chose this restaurant. Had we been notified ahead of time, we would have appreciated the opportunity to decide whether we still wanted to dine there or make reservations elsewhere. To make matters even more disappointing, we were there celebrating my birthday. It seemed like the restaurant either forgot or there was a miscommunication, because the birthday dessert wasn't brought out until after we had already received the bill. It made the celebration feel like an afterthought, which was disappointing on what was supposed to be a special occasion. Overall, the service from our waitress was outstanding, but the lack of communication and poor handling of the situation by the host staff really impacted our experience. The fancy pizza was average (3 stars), chicken piccata was great (5 stars), while the appetizers were good (4 stars) and the wines by the glass were very overpriced coming from someone in the wine business. Unfortunately, the disappointing start, limited menu, and overlooked birthday celebration made this visit fall far short of our expectations.

We were seated outside, which also looked nice at first glance, but I noticed quite a few spider webs around the windows. My boyfriend even felt webs brushing against his arm while we were sitting there, which wasn't exactly the extra ambiance we were expecting. We ordered quite a bit: spicy Pad Thai, Bang Bang Shrimp, Pad See Ew, mango sticky rice, and of course the Thai tea with the popsicle. I'll give credit where it's due. The Bang Bang Shrimp was easily the best thing we ordered and was absolutely delicious. The Thai tea popsicle also lived up to the TikTok hype, although the actual Thai tea itself was on the sweeter side. If you love sugar, you'll probably enjoy it. My biggest complaint with the food was the spicy Pad Thai. The flavor was great, but it came with what felt like a whole chicken farm and a cameo appearance from the noodles. I ordered Pad Thai, not chicken with noodle garnish. The Pad See Ew was also noticeably salty. Now you're probably wondering why I'm giving this place a low rating if most of the food was decent. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the meal. When it was time to pay, my aunt was figuring out how much everyone needed to Zelle her since the restaurant only allows a maximum of two cards for split payments. While we were trying to do the math, our waiter stood over us watching the payment screen like he was supervising a final exam. He was clearly waiting to make sure a tip was entered. My aunt politely asked him to give us a minute, and thankfully he walked away. Maybe when you see a family actively calculating a bill, that's your cue to...actually give them a minute. Keep in mind we also tipped 20% despite all this. Throughout the meal, he did stop by our table, but it rarely felt like he was checking in to make sure everything was okay. If anything I felt rushed. He also gave off that "customer service smile" that disappears the moment you stop looking. The cherry on top for me happened as we were leaving. We had been sitting on the outdoor patio talking for a bit after paying, which is pretty normal for my family. Before leaving, I went inside to ask where the restroom was. The guy and girl behind the bar looked at each other, laughed, and then asked if I was a paying customer. Keep in mind, I was literally holding a to-go bag with leftovers from the restaurant. I responded, "Yeah, I just finished eating," while holding up the bag that made it painfully obvious. Only then did they tell me where the restroom was. Nothing says "valued customer" quite like being interrogated about whether you actually ate there while carrying your leftovers. It's unfortunate because the food had some highlights, and the restaurant itself has a cute atmosphere. But the service made it feel like customers are viewed more as transactions than guests. Between hovering over us during payment and questioning whether I even belonged there after spending money, I left feeling more unwelcomed than satisfied. I'll happily support a restaurant that appreciates my business instead of making me feel like I have to prove I earned the right to use the restroom after paying for dinner.

Let's start with the food. I had the sandwich which was as delicious. I had the medium heat and it was as just the right amount of spice for me. I wasn't big on the creamy slaw, sweet pickles or their comeback sauce, but that's just me and the sandwich actually came together really well and it was delicious. The Mac n cheese wasn't my favorite, but Mac n cheese is a polarizing side. The fries are well seasoned and crinkle cut. I didn't love the comeback sauce, but the ketchup they had was fire! The service was good. Even though they were swamped, their crew took time to chat and pushed our orders at a solid pace! One suggestion, especially at a spot like the Hanger, the little pagers May come in useful instead of the number calling. It's great to have a Nashville hot chicken spot in Long Beach. Came here on 12/27/19 at 11:20am Friday after my flight from Nevada. My cousin and I wanted to try this spot jay birds for our first time asked the cashier for recommendations and she guided us to the most popular items. I ordered the chicken sandwich medium with cole slaw and my cousin got the same with the loaded fries. I've been wanting to try Jay Bird's since the minute it opened. My friend and I went for lunch and we were absolutely disgusted. The 2 men prepping the food were also picking receipts off the ground! Tons of risk for cross contamination. I politely explained to them that what they were doing is unhygienic. Instead of agreeing with me, they gave me a dirty look and tried to justify their actions. We left and won't return. Management: please train your employees to not pick things off the ground and handle food. We don't want to get sick! read more

I was tired of chicken places that claim to be spicy and have no heat. Jay Bird's uses Carolina Reapers for their Fire heat level, and while it wasn't unbearable it was definitely one of the hotter sandwiches I've eaten. Good pickle/coleslaw combo on top with their house sauce topped it off. Their cashier also came to our table in the middle of the food court to ask me how the sandwich was and how long our wait was today which was only about 10 minutes. As a lover of fried chicken and spicy food, this is a must have whenever I'm in Long Beach. I got the medium fried chicken, and it was delicious; some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. The chicken is nice and juicy, it has a nice kick that lingers, but not to the point of not being able to eat, and the side of Mac n cheese was off the chain. One of the best chicken sandwiches out there, you get a whole chicken breast and the flavor is just spot on every time. I've tried looking for another chicken sandwich spot since moving and nothing compares, so I actually make the 30min drive just for this chicken sandwich. I get it mild spicy, big sexy style, with cheese and cut in half. I get full off of half, I also order their fries well done and it hits the spot every time. You have to try this place. read more

Be careful if you get the hot it is defiantly on the hotter side. Chicken's tender enough and the breading with flavor is obvious enough but the entire taste doesn't quite come together. With the initial bite, breading falls apart and the chicken itself looses much of the flavor. I usually order Number 2 with a veggie patty and grilled onions and everything else including pickles. The fries are always hot and crispy. The pink lemonade is a little too sweet for me so I add a little water and that does the trick, but that's a me issue. I've ever have to wait long. I usually pull up, park in front, jump out and wait about 15 minutes then I'm driving back home with fires in one hand and the other on my steeling wheel with no cares in the world.
