We are from San Antonio & used to love eating there. We moved away and came back this weekend to see our kids. Service sucked! Food was horrible and they served my husband food stained tortillas in the warmer with his plate! When it was brought to their attention, the black cashier girl said she was aware of the used tortillas being put in the warmer, that she saw them remove food from the taco & just threw it in container that was served to us, but said nothing to them.This made it worse! That a worker actually admitted to seeing it done and kept her mouth shut. Then, all they said was "pay up your $56 bill you owe and we will let the manager know about what happened." Very tacky! All they said was there had been many, many complaints all week about food & service and that I was not only one complaining, but that I still had to pay my full bill. Then they trying to say they deducted the tortillas from the bill, I told them they came with the meal chosen & we should've not been charged and black girl & Hispanic lady said, "oh yes, you're right." This is one of my favorite Jim's. Not too crowded and the food is great! I don't know why I just love their chicken fried steak. Buttttt, too bad they didn't have brown gravy this time. First time ever at a Jim's. Ever since leaving El Paso I've been searching for a 24/7 type diner that's like Village Inn. I'd be willing to settle for a combination of something between Village Inn and Waffle House. That's my first impression of Jim's, and that's not bad. Overall, however. My experience was just okay. Had a ham and cheese omelette that was good, but just good. Was told the biscuits were good so I had those. They WERE good, and I'm NOT a biscuit guy. Servers name was Janice. Very nice lady. Very pleasant. She was on top of it! My coffee cup was never empty and my food came out pretty quickly. This location was clean and not at all as described as in one of the earlier reviews. Overall, I'll be back. Heard their burgers are good, so I'll try that next. read more

Jim's is a South Texas legend! This is probably the flagship of the old style of Jim's. The headquarters are located just down the street, so you can bet that this is where the corporate brass go for lunch to discuss Jim's business. They'e got some excellent coffee, with unlimited refills. Their iced tea is good too. My favorite is the Frontier Burger. It's a great value with fries! The service here is always top-notch! They're always right on key, and have always welcomed students as they pull all-nighters getting amped on coffee. Since this place is 24/7, it's a great place to cram! This is one of the best places in town to get breakfast. They don't have anything too out of the ordinary here. Just ample sized servings, and comfort food. They source things locally when they can, such as the Pioneer gravy from the King William District. read more

There is something about Jim's that invokes good feelings. Much like Luby's or Earl Abel's, which creates a sense of comfort food, it has become an oasis for college students studying, wayward travelers and folks nursing a hangover. Whatever the reason they are a welcome staple to our community. In my case, I used this particular locale as a prologue to a night of overindulging on brew at The Big Hops Growler. When you enter any Jim's, especially this location it is always an adventure. It is the perfect place to people watch. A restaurant where couples might spend an anniversary or honeymoon for dinner. An impromptu birthday party. A lonesome trucker who has to have his meatloaf fix. The waitress with a hairnet and pencil between her ears. It's quirky. And kinda fun. The server I had was super laid back and quite attentive. No sooner did I order a drink, water in this case, did it come out. The menu itself is basically comfort food of all sorts, chicken fried steaks, eggs, soups, biscuits; there are also plenty of options for kids. I I-spied their chili burger and decided on that. Again, the server was most excellent bringing out appetizers no sooner than I ordered. The chili burger was very tasty, the patty seemed to be flame-grilled and it was not too heavy or light. I have had chili burgers where there was an overabundance of chili. Or the patty was undercooked. But here it was right on the money. In all honesty the server is what made the experience seem pleasant. At other places I have gone to waiters give you some glib story, like the ones in in the restaurant scenes in "Office Space" who are deliberately bucking for a tip. At Jim's the servers take your order, ask if you need anything and that's it. That's what patrons really want. I have looked at some of the other reviews here and have been take aback. Jim's is definitely not the apex of finer dining nor is it to be confused with the fast food culture of a McDonald's. It operates at it's own pace, which is mid-tempo to slow and on any day or night the results may vary. It is where the diner and cafeteria experience merge and that notion is what draws patrons to it. They just need antlers hanging on their walls, lamps with beige shades on their tables and they will be set. read more

We are so hurt with the way the staff treated us today. When we walked in, no greeting, they barely even noticed us even though there was about two other customers there. As we sat down we were eager to order and ready for service. A good 15-20 minutes went by with the staff just sitting around and talking while the manager and another employee stared me down for no reason! I assumed they would at least come to let us order our drinks but nope. The stupid thing was that they weren't even under staffed, there was plenty of idle workers! When an old couple sat in the booth behind us a waitress quickly came to help them as soon as they sat down, unlike us. Eventually we were somehow "noticed" and they sent someone to take our order. I noticed as soon as we finished ordering the old couple that came after us got their food first. Now I'm often a patient person but this was starting to make me more upset. I noticed the couples waitress AND also the manager were talking and laughing with them which seemed longer than socially acceptable especially at a restaurant were there are usually more customers to attend to. When we FINALLY got our food they somehow forgot to give us our sides! They seemed to want us out as quickly as possible. We came to sit down and enjoy our meal not to be rushed out. Also our waitress wasn't that friendly and didn't even smile. When she brought us our sides and our check, we were charged extra for the texas toast. Finally when we were leaving, the lady at the front desk tried persuading us into thinking that we had to pay extra for the texas toast. The lady didn't even smile or even make eye contact either! Somethings telling me that they treated us differently because my mother is mexican and I am half. This proves this because there was a few more groups of people in there who were old white folks. We felt so hurt and discriminated which destroyed our pleasant day. read more

I ate In store and ordered something to go & another server had given me a extra side of bacon and hash browns by mistake Juany was very quick to get angry about that shaking her head mumbling under her breath right I front of me about it yet had me standing there waiting for my drink for 10 min finally gives it to me with a passive aggressive attitude and couldn't even give a straw. I am a regular of the restaurants in Austin. The food is great and the service is good. I thought the parent location would be the same. I sat myself and waited a long time to be assisted. I ordered my food. My food came out COLD. I informed the waitstaff. My food was reheated and I was told not to touch the plate. It was not prepared again. The manager never came over. I informed the cashier and nothing. The waitstaff was clueless to my issue. There are processes in place to handle this, but this was not handled properly. read more

I always love this location. During the day is the best time because the night time does not seem to meld well as far as staff goes but during the day they appear to be a well oiled machine. Tried to do the curbside pick up, the guy on the phone interrupted me and said "you have to come in." I asked him "why do you guys have curbside pick up then?" He ignores the question and repeats "you have to come in." When I walked in, the place was so dirty and there were 4 workers standing at the counter, not one of them greeted me or were helpful and said "the bag is right there." It's like as if they were waiting for me to say something to them regarding the curbside so that they could go off on me. Jim's is a great go to place for comfort food. I highly recommend the Frontier Burger, blast from the past. The omelets rate great and available 24 hours!! My only complaints is that they do not sell Coca Cola products! [How can you be an authentic southern restaurant and not sell cokes?] While the biscuits are huge and wonderful, the hash browns are flat and uninteresting. They lack both salt and fat. I think they must be cooked without any butter/oil/fat of any kind. anyway it masked a lousy potato. If they sold diet cokes, I could forgive them the has browns and add 5th star. read more

Awful...awful...awful.. Yes, the food is somewhat good...the bagels are delicious. It's the service from the table to the check-out. I was at Jim's yesterday with a friend. At the next table were four burly men (yes, I noticed.) Their young waitress was out of line and I'm not old our a prude. She was a flirt bar none. Then one of the cooks the waitress calls "Mama", came to the table and started to complain about the other cooks in the kitchen....they're no good. Our server, I have had her before, takes our order carefully and when she brings the food, half the items are not with her. We have to remind her...she's always does this. Yes, I will get another waitress if I ever go back. The icing on the cake...checking out...there was no one at the register. and there were a number of us waiting. After 15 minutes, I left without paying the bill. Perrin Beitel always has two at the register. PB & Bandera/1604 are the best. Lance, the manager, walks away when you are explaining how upset you are with the whole entire dinner. The almost 9 dollar salad should cost about 3 dollars when it came to the table because there was about a handful of lettuce in the salad, it was mostly an empty plate. Other Jim's in San Antonio uses fresh spinach as you can see in the picture below. Lance told my mom they haven't used it in years and she got it two days ago. He also told her that it was leaf lettuce that she got two days ago at a different Jim's. Saying that my mom does not know what fresh spinach looks like One of our parties was waiting for about 45 minutes I never got her food and it was sitting in the back and when the manager brought it out he admitted it was just sitting back there. It was cold she did not eat it. Lance should not be a manager at this establishment or any establishment at that. You listen to the customer you don't belittle them! read more

Ordered a Number 1 (Called a Poor Boy) with hashbrowns cuz they don't appear to have brown gravy anywhere in San Antonio but that's another rant for later. Sauce=ketchup, brown sugary ick. I liked the bun and onions but that was all. Matter of fact the only thing I enjoyed here was the service. Nice people, very efficient. So at least they hire a great staff. 2 stars for that, but none for the food. read more

I've been coming to Jim's as long as I can remember but I've never been to this location before. After a night of going out to Wild West we had a craving for some late night snacks. Our waitress Dee? was very nice and even cracked a few jokes about the people falling asleep around the table. While the food at this location tasted fine but we had a few temperature issues with the food. The chicken torilla soup tasted fine but wasn't hot enough; especially compared to getting the same dish the day before at another location. The sampler basket was a tale of two temperatures with the fried mushrooms and the chicken nice and hot but the cheese sticks barely warm. To finish up the meal the strawberry pie and cinnamon ice cream was good as always. read more

Well first off let me say that I love Jim's. Their food has always been good and I've always felt welcome, no matter which location. But this Jim's off of broadway is something different. I called in an order and the young boy was just difficult, really not professional. And when I got to pick up my food the guy took his time (basically walking around) to cash me out. I went into the bathroom and almost flew into the wall, the floor was so slippery. Don't even want to get into what was on the floor. I explained this to the young boy at the desk and he merely just smirked and said "ok". Wow never seen a Jim's fall off like that. read more
