As many others have said, Jollibee of the Philippines is the McDonald's of the United States. I hate when my Filipino friends who haven't really had Filipino food before come here and think that Jollibee represents the kind of stuff we eat because there's so much more out there than a fast food joint like this. I come here from time to time (typically before church) because it's nearby and I seldom have Filipino food to eat. I only really get their pancit palabok because it's one of my favorite Filipino dishes. The palabok here contains all of the ingredients that normal palabok should have, but there is nothing authentic tasting about it at all. It's decent, but there are seriously so many other places to get some REAL pancit palabok. I guess I should expect mediocre palabok from a fast food joint... because after all it IS fast food, right? Now that I think about it, I can truly say that I've never really had GOOD fast food Filipino before. I've been to a few buffets and fast food joints but nothing holds a candle to restaurants or that home cooked goodness. I need to stop frequenting these kinds of places but I can't help it. Filipino fast food is still fast food. They carry some Filipino inspired dishes, especially in their breakfast menu. However, the rest of the menu consists of fried chicken, burgers, spaghetti, and Filipino rice dishes. However, when I saw that they had fried chicken, I gravitated towards that selection. The Filipino employee (with her thick accent) at the register was nice. However, when I ate the chicken, it was stale and soggy. However, the mashed potatoes were decent. The problem with Jollibee in the States compared to the REAL Jollibee in the motherland is that the former is "westernized" and the latter is, well, the original! I am a little bit biased of this review because I can't help but compare the one here from the original. I am sure the differences are all caused by the strict regulations here in the U.S. But hey, I'm still giving them 3 stars... So here's the breakdown: Hamburgers - completely different. I mean the hamburgers they serve in the motherland actually beat McDonald's hamburgers hands down that they put a McD's franchise out of business if it's within a walking distance's proximity from Jollibee. But the one they serve here in the U.S. is something else. Same branding, a mile apart in taste... Palabok - wow, talk about something unrecognizable. If you have tasted the real Palabok Fiesta of Jollibee in the Philippines, it's easily in your top 5 (if not THE TOP) of best palabok ever. The one here in the US is nowhere near it. The sauce is different, the rice noodles is different, the ingredients in the sauce contain one shrimp (two if you're lucky), I mean come effin' on... if you're going to completely change not just the taste but the look of it, you might as well call it something else... like FakeLabok or something... Spaghetti - this is the next closest thing they've got to the real thing. Here's the deal, the taste is identical, very identical. But the thing that's lacking are those big, thick chunks of ham and hotdog that you get back in the Philippines. Nevertheless, the one here in the US still brings me back to my childhood years because it just simply tastes the same - just how Filipino Spaghetti should taste like! Chickenjoy - this is the closest thing to the real deal. The texture is ALMOST the same, the taste is spot-on, and the gravy is the same old taste I'm used to. I mean it has to be. This is the joint's bread and butter and if you can't get the taste right here in the US, then you might as well just stay in the Philippines. If you're a KFC gravy fan, give Jollibee's gravy a try. It's so good that I put it on top of my rice as if it were mashed potatoes. They have a lot more items in their menu but the ones up there are pretty much the significant ones that you should know about. They have a nice line of desserts that are a good compliment to your meal. For those first-timers, stay away from their burgers and palabok and just stick to the chicken and spaghetti. I did not give in into all this hype when it first opened maybe because I'm not much into the whole filipino thing. Although few a things I go here for is the spaghetti, even tho my mom offers to make it home for me. My mom's cooking isn't just the same for this maybe because its sweet and has chunks of ham and hot dogs. Even though she does try to mimic it, it's just not the same. First time at Jollibee! Exceeded my expectations. I actually am neither Filipino nor do I eat much Filipino food, so perhaps I'm not the best judge. Anyway, I got the 2 piece ChickenJoy combo with rice & gravy. The total's ~$6, which is super cheap for a pretty filling meal. Rice came out with a perfect consistency to match with the gravy & fried chicken. The gravy's got a bit of sweetness to it, which meshes well with the rice & chicken. The fried chicken, arguably the star of the show, came out tasting warm and fresh. It was pretty succulent. Its located in the Eagle Rock Plaza, there's not a lot of great food or a large quantity of shopping stores here, but if you do feel hungry, I would recommend this place. Other food options in this mall.....Target has its Target Cafe, BBQ express, chow king.....seafood city actually have some decent BBQ skewers wrapped in plastic wrap. I'm not a Karen, but the way my family was treated by the loud mouth fat employee, it brought it out. I came with my wife and baby and ordered a meal to go. They call my number to pick up. She has it on a tray. When I went to grab the tray, she said Sorry sir, but this is to go order. Then she put the food in a bag to go. My wife was sitting on a table tending to our baby when I gave her a piece of the chicken.. and all hell broke lose. I've been wanting to write a review for this place. Jollibee is known for being a go to filipino place for almost all Filipinos in America. The food itself is great. HOWEVER, the service just makes me angry every time I come here. Whenever I try to call for a to-go order, I am always put on hold for at least 7-10 minutes and all I hear is the workers chatting in the background. When I pick up my order, it's always not ready. There's NO point of calling for pick up because you wait the same time as you order in the counter. The cashiers are rude, too. I am not sure if this is just specific to this location but the quality of food and attention to detail has gone south. The chicken bucket is still served in Christmas Themed buckets and the chicken... the chicken Joy that is the highlight of the store... they have gone small and no longer juicy. They offer chicken tenders as a replacement if you want all white meat chicken as if they're full sized chicken breasts but no, they're tiny chicken strips. I recently recommended them to a non-Filipino friend and they called me feeling so disappointed by the "hype" I've shared with them. Great food but horrible service. I love their halo halo for last 5 years and go very often to indulge myself. Last two times they screwed up the simple halo halo. Taste not the same as it used to be.
