Came here around 2ish on a Saturday for some appetizers and drinks before we headed out for the night. It was totally low key with some fabulous atmosphere. Tropical vibe that was fitting with the terrible humidity that LA has had recently. Sister and I sat at the bar and ordered margaritas, potato taquitos and queso fundido with green chiles. This is a beautiful restaurant. We went on a cold windy day and the outside seating was not adequate for the night but it must be a mood when the weather permits. Luckily there was an inside area where they sat us and it the ambiance was straight out of Tulum; beautifully decorated and lit. We ordered two drinks which were incredible, Luna Verde for the lady- sweet and delightfully refreshing and I ordered the Forbidden Cenote, a true treat. We ordered the most beautiful appetizer which was the Blood Orange Aguachile. A True sight and flavor palate experience. For entrees I had the Lamb Shank- BOMB! Parking was super easy. There is a lot across the street for $25 or valet in front for the same price. The entrance is south of the hotel and if you miss it, the hotel has signs. The entrance is a tunnel then you are greeted into a lovely indoor/outdoor restaurant. Dim lighting with multiple areas. Outside has fire pits or next to a fireplace nested in a wall the separates indoor from outdoor. The music is perfect to allow conversations, and the lighted is very romantic. Don't be alarmed if you smell smoke. Its one of their best drinks which is served by torch lighter. Keisha was our server and she was very attentive. She was extremely knowledgeable on the menu, explaining everything in great detail. My date and I joked that she could read minds. We ordered the camaron a la diablo. The only knock, it came with 5 shrimps so a pair my have to draw straws for the last one. We also ordered the ribeye. My daye liked it medium well and I am medium rare. Service was good and then it got bad after we received our drinks. We tend to order our drinks firsts and feel out the vibe if we want to stay or not Our original waitress was mia after she dropped off our drinks. Mind you our 2 apps we ordered were there before our drinks I alerted her of my fish and nut allergy and was not familiar with the menu. Because I asked her about the ingredients of the papas brava and she's like "I think it's fine" Well ma'am I think not, I'm anaphylactic and I did a google search and saw it was some plum sauce added to the potatoes PLEASE TRAIN YOUR STAFF ON BEING FAMILIAR WITH THE MENU AND TO TAKE NOTE ON ALL ALLERGENS. We went over to the restaurant directly and complained and the manager a male said he was gonna speak to the financial department and fix it though email. I am not confident about this but I will post an update when this is resolved The drinks were good we finished them fast and were ready for a new set of drinks so we continued to converse amongst ourselves but the water carafe was already empty so I'm like you know what let's go they obviously don't want our business. And apparently everyone in the section was also concerned because we all flagged down a random waiter to get our check. Yes my table and two others as well were just sitting idle waiting for the waitress to come back. So apparently we were all waiting for a waiter to tend to us and nothing. The guy comes over and he says that our waitress is leaving or left I don't recall his exact words so I was like ohhh this is why we're getting crap service. She could have at least told us... you know something like hey guys I'm gonna be leaving but so and so will be taking care of you ... but nothing (Remember I work in the service industry and run a bar as well) So our receipts states that JOBANNY F closed us out. He seemed to closed out the rest of the other surrounding tables as well. The next day there is 2 charges on the card. One that we approved and another one for way more money. Clearly I'm upset because those combined charges were $200 When I only approved 2 drinks and 2 apps remember I said the service was terrible! I don't know if it's the way me and my partner were dressed that they thought we wouldn't notice but it's pretentious Hollywood and I'm too familiar with the establishments in this area they tend to do things like this thinking their clientele won't notice but you really did mess with the wrong one I luckily saved the receipt for proof to dispute this FRAUDULENT CHARGE. The ambiance of the restaurant is to die for. It is well lit with a tropical theme. Though it's outside, they have heaters all around to keep you warm. There are many servers moving about so it was never difficult to get someone's attention. They are the kind of restaurant that takes orders all at once and you aren't able to add things to your dish. What you have is it which is a bummer. The drinks are delicious. I got a pina colada drink in the pineapple which was the larger version of the Wes colada. It was really good. I also got the crab enchiladas. They were okay. They were very fishy but not unbearable. I also got the potato taquitos which I really enjoyed. What was very disturbing is that we ordered chips and guacamole and we didn't have enough chips and a substantial amount of guacamole left and were charged for another thing of chips. This was annoying because we weren't given enough chips to begin with. Overall the ambiance and drinks were good. We had a wonderful experience at Ka'teen from the moment we were greeted at the front. Our server was friendly and caring, and took the time to thoughtfully walk us through the menu as it was our first time. We had a reservation so there was no wait in being seated. We appreciated being asked whether we were celebrating a special occasion, to which we responded "yes, it was my birthday". There were plenty of thoughtful touches throughout, including the music, the lush tropical decor, and heaters and blankets because it was a chilly evening. My son looked at the photos and said it looked like Miami. My wife and I thought the place reminded us of Mexico City. The food was wonderfully vibrant and beautifully presented. Each dish tasted new to us, which is not something we often experience. The crab enchiladas were perfection. The vibe was so easygoing and friendly that we struck up conversations with the tables next to us, comparing our experiences, and considering what dishes we would order the next time we visit, which I expect will be very soon! Wow wow wow! This place is very nice inside and has a beautiful garden seating. The music was great, the food was amazing and the service was superb! I ordered the short rib plate and it was bursting with flavor and served on top of a delicious tortilla. The side salsas that came with it hit the spot. One of them was very spicy and I loved it! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food here. The Southeast Asian-inspired decor is beautiful (I least that was my impression), and the $18 taco plates, especially the pork and shrimp, were delicious and well worth the price. The "chill house" soundtrack and high-quality sound system created a great vibe for the evening. Unfortunately, the experience was soured by the valet. Despite the sign clearly stating $17 for the first three hours, the attendant tried to charge me $25. When I questioned him, he gave conflicting excuses about hotel vs. restaurant rates and couldn't point to any signage to back it up. He eventually "offered" me a $20 rate as if he were doing me a favor, which felt like a blatant attempt to pocket a forced tip. To make matters worse, the blonde maître d' was standing right there and watched the entire exchange without stepping in. I don't mind tipping for good service, but being duped leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's a shame, because the restaurant itself is great, but I'm hesitant to return after that experience. Came in for the first time to catch up with an old friend. I might be getting old cause the music felt a lil too loud for the chit chats. Place was gorgeous but didn't feel very inspired by anything you haven't seen everywhere else (the bamboo/wood/warm lights/green plants mix). The interior designer in me was hoping to feast eyes on something more interesting/unique.. but I digress. The food was incredible, particularly enjoyed the papas bravas + elote dish. The sweetness of that corn was amazing. And their Caesar salad was GORGEOUS with texture on point in every bite. Only wish I took photos! Our server, Selma, was absolutely the highlight of the evening. I came up asking if we could be moved to a larger table with my partner joining (very last minute), making us a 3 top, and she happily accommodated us. The short rib is the best I ever had. I don't like the French way short rib is normally cooked. But this was spiced, had a citrus kick 2 salsas to go with it, a corn flatbread underneath. The meat was enough for 2 people to share. The guacamoles, salsa, and cevice were all done well. Different than maybe what you expect, but the chef has his flare. He knows how to hook up some drinks too. I recommend the margarita and espresso martini. I decided to get the roasted chicken, which was really good and tender. For the appetizers it was a big party we shared the potato taquitos and guacamole and chips, which are really good and tasty. Our ceremony was patient, but nonchalant as well. I think that was her personality, but she was cool the entire night with the huge party. However, I did not like how they keep reinforcing your time limit on how long you can stay. This is the kind of ruining the evening when you keep telling people about the time you have left, especially when it's your birthday. Anyways, I still give this place a five star because of the amazing bartending service, the ambience and the food. This place is good for date night or girls night out just to have fun and enjoy the nice atmosphere that it brings it makes you feel like you're on vacation for sure no doubt about it. Oh my. This was my first stay at the Hollywood Volume hotel, a Marriott Boutique property. I was here for business. Needing to work that evening a didn't venture far, so went to the hotel restaurant. The restaurant was beautiful and I loved yet decor, from the Mexican throw blankets to the staff's uniform. The food definitely matched decor. We started with the esquite, papas bravas and the delicious queso fundido. Our party ordered different tacos and a campechana. I had the Baja taco and a pork belly taco. Let me tell you, when I bit into the Baja taco there was this incredible crunch to it. The pork belly tacos with pomegranates, weird? No, delicious! The flavors all just went together so well.
