Had the chance to brunch here on Sunday. I made reservations to be safe but when we walked in, it actually wasn't as crowded as I thought. So it might not be necessary to make reservations. Maybe dinner time is their most crowded and their brunch is still picking up. It was my first time here so I look forward to coming back but for dinner. I got the breakfast burrito and I really enjoyed it. So filling and full flavor! Not too big either and not too small. The portion was just right. My bf got the short rib enchiladas and those were delicious too. I loved the aesthetic of it too. It looked like chocolate. It was a little concerning though in the beginning as the tables and cups were so hot from the hot. Thankfully our waiter noticed it and he changed the cups without us even pouring it out so that was good. He was really attentive and so was the hostess. She gave us options where to sit, trying to make our experience as nice as possible so we really appreciated that. We also parked in the public parking right across the restaurant. Conveniently but pricey so be ready to pay a lot for parking. There is valet too. The ambiance was just as njce as you see in social media. It might look a little bigger online than it really is but the interior and exterior looks the exact same. Overall nice experience with friendly staff and delicious food. Ka'teen is one of those places where I wish I chose use half stars. Because the place is really 3.5 stars. The ambiance is gorgeous. Lots of beautiful greenery juxtaposed with warm neutrals. The presentation of the food was also stunning from the dishes to the garnishes. Our waiter was lovely too. But, as good as the food looked, half of it wasn't quite there taste wise, which is why I can't give it four stars. Especially in LA, where great Mexican food is aplenty, you've gotta bring your A-game. This is especially true when your prices are on the higher end. We started of with NA Wes Coladas, which were my favorite thing I tried. Creamy, refreshing, and the perfect amount of sweetness. Next we went to the queso fundido, which I didn't like. I couldn't really taste any of the chile poblano and the texture just wasn't my fave, it was almost rubbery. The tortilla chips were pretty bland too, so the dish felt like a miss. My breakfast burrito was a great size, but the ratio of ingredients was off. There was birra beef, but I most tasted potatoes and beans. I think the chunks of potatoes were way too big. They also caused the burrito to fall apart immediately. My cousin ordered the flan pancakes, which were yummy. I was impressed that the flan really shone through. The side of chicken sausage she ordered, however, was also a miss. This place has fabulous potential and I wanted to love it, but it was just "fine" for me. read more

I was celebrating my birthday and made a reservation. This is a restaurant. I have been eyeing for years, but never got around to it. After the night I had this will definitely be somewhere that I frequent. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. They needed to make a change to my reservation and made it up with their super warm hospitality and complementary item. The ambience is beautiful. Also, I was very impressed with the presentation of all the food, and not only that but it actually have flavor. There's another restaurant that is Mexican Tulum themed and this restaurant definitely blows them out of the water. It's such a romantic tropical vibe that is literally in the heart of Hollywood. The servers all seemed uptight and the little conversation they offered was bland and seemed unwanted. Music was EXTRMEELY loud. Try to not sit near the speakers. I came here for my birthday yesterday and have mixed feelings. The food was honestly so good, everything tasted authentic, and the aesthetic of the place was beautiful. Drinks and food were 10/10. What ruined the experience was the service. Our server Josh was fine at first, but once another party sat next to us, my partner and I noticed he became way more attentive and conversational with them than he was with us. We were polite and had no issues, so the difference in treatment felt weird and uncomfortable. It was especially disappointing to feel dismissed as Hispanic customers in a restaurant that serves Hispanic food. What made it even more frustrating was that he couldn't even pronounce most of the menu items correctly, yet still treated us like we were the problem. He asked the table next to us what they were celebrating, and when they said a birthday from the day before, he brought them a free shot with a sparkler. Meanwhile, it was actually my birthday, and he never once asked us. I'd maybe come back for the food, but I'd definitely ask for a different server who actually treats everyone equally. read more

Loved this restaurant! From the moment we were greeted I felt we were in good hands. Restaurant is beautifully decorated with indoor/outdoor seating. Service was soooo friendly- hostesses, servers, bussers, everyone was just so sweet. The food- delicious!! Everything we ordered was perfect and I'm not even a fan of Mexican cuisine. First, this restaurant is stunning. I came here for dinner with colleagues on a Tuesday. I didn't realize at the time but, Tuesday is Taco Tuesday here and they have a limited menu with the addition of taco options not available on other days. The tacos did not disappoint. The Leek & Potato tacos were a favorite among the group. We also tried the Chicken Ajonjolt, Taco Hass and El Gobernador tacos. All were delicious. In addition to the tacos, we had the Pescado Zarandeado, Carne Asada Ribeye and Cochinita Pibil. I loved everything, but probably wouldn't order the pork again. If you come here on a Tuesday, I highly recommend checking out the free jazz show around the corner at Bar Lis after dinner! read more

Quickly became one of my favorite restaurants in LA. I came in for my birthday dinner, making a reservation on Resy two weeks prior. We had a bit of a wait and we were seated at a nice table close to the kitchen. We were quickly asked about allergies, which we had one, and I do wish they put more emphasis on adding what's in each dish for this reason. With that said though, the waiter was very knowledgeable on each dish and what specifically had the ingredient one person couldn't have. He was a great waiter and service was immaculate all night. As for the food and drinks, we ordered a Wes Colada, Mexpresso Martino, and i forgot the last cocktail, but they were all great and very enjoyable for us. For food, we ordered aguachile, campechana ceviche, potato taquitos, tacos fritos, and camarones a la diabla. Everything was so refreshing with every flavor pairing well with the next. It was nice being comfortably full due to the food being light and not weighed down by a bunch of dairy or heavy ingredients. We were also brought out complimentary champagne for my birthday as well as a complimentary dessert in addition to the tres leches cake I ordered. I'm not a huge dessert person, but the desserts are not too sweet and have a bit of fruit essence in both we received. I will definitely be back to Ka'Teen for a nice night out! read more

The ambience is really beautiful. The entrance is covered with a large lounge area and coffee bar. We went for dinner in the evening this past week when it was raining. It wasn't raining while we were there but we reserved seating inside. Inside and out is pretty open air concept so dress accordingly. The inside was protected from the outside with large thick curtains so we didn't get the breeze from outside. I'm sure they move the curtains when the weather permits to allow more open air. The outdoor area has heat lamps and seemed fine even in the cold. It was cold outside but comfortable dining inside and they provide blankets. The service and food were also really amazing. Visited ka'teen over the weekend for my bday. It's in the heart of Hollywood Blvd which is pretty cool. Usually places like this are all asthetics and terrible food but on the contrary, I would start by rating the service a solid 10/10 from the hosts in the front to our server, very nice and attentive. The ambiance was awesome; like a restaurant in Tulum. We enjoyed the recado short rib, papas bravas and the guacamole very delicious. I have been on a brunch streak for the last couple of weeks. I will take brunch over fancy dinners any day. AMBIANCE!/Service 5/5: the place is beautiful I can't deny that from the moment you enter you feel you are located in another country. It reminds me of being in Cancun. The second you walk in you feel like you've been transported to Tulum or some Mexican tropical vacation. I was obsessed with the ambience in the aesthetic of this place. The second I walked in. It literally felt like you were being transported. When my boyfriend and I can't use it was during La Eats or some promotion so we stuck to this prefixed menu. But it was delicious. You could definitely taste the quality and different flavors in each dish. I will admit my favorite thing about this location is the ambience and the vibe they have. I would love to come back on another night to try more things on the menu plus I hear they have a lot of different events, dancers, performers, DJs that come in, so I would love to check it out. I LOVED Kateen for Cinco de Mayo brunch! Once I sat down, I realized that I have eaten there before for dinner but it was dark so I didn't recognize the space. The mushroom birria were the best cooked mushrooms (other than fried) I've ever had! And that's saying a lot because I actually don't like cooked mushrooms... so for the mushrooms alone, I will be back. The guacamole was really good too. I wish we had more of it. My husband, friend and I came to Ka'teen in December 2023 for a midweek dinner. Ka'teen had long been on my radar. The restaurant is located on a busy street in Hollywood. From the street, it's a bit hard to find the restaurant as there's no street signage. The restaurant is all open air, with lush plants all over. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had a variety of dishes but nothing was particularly astounding or memorable. 4+ I've been wanting to come here since I read somewhere that Chef Wes Avila (of Guerilla Tacos and Angry Egret Dinette fame) was involved somehow. I can't speak to the level of his involvement though (did he just design the menu? Is he running the kitchen? etc.) This restaurant serves regional Mexican food (more specifically - as explained to us, the Tulum area). Now, I've never been to Tulum (yet), but I feel like the vibe/ambiance here was designed to emulate nice places in that area. My buddy (who we were celebrating) is going to get married in that area really soon (early 2024) and partially chose this place for that reason. The service was great (and really helpful) and the food was great as well. There was six of us and some ordered some cocktails, but we also got the cantarito grande, which is large clay jug that had a bunch of mezcal mixed with among other things, a juice of your choice. We got mango. At $120 as of 3/24 it's a fun order for mid to large groups and they bring a cart around with sparklers! Foodwise - we ordered 4 entrees, 5 starters, and a couple of sides: -Chips and guacamole -Sides of yucca frita -Stripe bass ceviche -Aguachile -Crab enchiladas -Quesadilla -Cochinita pibil -Lamb shank barbacoa -Recado negro short rib -Carne asada ribeeye Overall, the seafood was very fresh and wasn't too spicy (usually I eat aguachile that makes me break a bit of a sweat). The meats had the delicious signature smoky, charred flavors, and the sides and dessert were well done. The place is a bit 'scene-y' in that this is almost the exact opposite of the vibe you get from places like Guerilla Tacos and Angry Egret, but this is a huge draw for many. It is in the heart of Hollywood, after all. Definitely a great place for people who like to get dressed up for that Hollywood night out. read more

Overall, my large party and I had an okay time at Ka'teen. The food was not memorable but the interior definitely was the perfect picturesque environment. It truly felt like I was in Tulum again. We went on a rainy day, and for an establishment where most of their tables are outside, it was a bit hard. A lot of us got wet towards the end but there were heaters and blankets. Our server, Gio, was a great guy. He was super nice and made the best out of the rainy day. Keep in mind it gets really dark outside so it was hard to see everything. Food wise, everything was just okay. There was nothing really on the menu that stood out to us except for maybe the ceviches and whole fish. We ordered around two of everything for the whole table. My side of the table got a charred steak. We thought it tasted weird so I tried a piece of the second steak on the other side of the table. It tasted completely different and I was shocked that there was no consistency between the two steaks. For being the most expensive dish on the menu, I expected it to be good. I brought this up to our server and he originally asked us why half of it was eaten. I told him it was because each person had one piece. I explained to him that the second steak was juicy and salty but the first steak was charred and tasted burnt. He came back a few minutes later and he apologized and ordered us a new steak. I am very grateful that he was able to accommodate because even if we ate half the steak, it was only one piece per person, as it was a large group. read more

Went to Ka'teen for Dine LA and everything was absolutely delicious. The food was packed with flavor and beautifully presented, you can really tell care goes into every dish. Upon entering Ka'teen, the space is beautiful. A dimlit patio/garden and a brighter dining room space for those who have trouble seeing in the dark. We requested an outside table in our reservation which seemed to be disregarded when we were sat in the dining room without option, but fortunately enough were quickly moved outside after we approached the host and asked to be moved if possible. We were also celebrating a birthday amongst friends and although it was acknowledged by the host upon 1/2 our party arriving, nothing was ever mentioned again. Another thing that was never mentioned was DineLA. I would've had no idea if I didn't work in the industry myself, or was someone who was fortunate enough to eat out often and stay current with dining trends. Once we sat, our server Israel was attentive and helpful but a little rushed - It seemed like he was ready to get our order in asap. We ended up ordering as our drinks were arriving. Food seemed to take an average amount of time and both courses seemed to come out "as ready", which is understandable for 1st course but for main course could definitely bother some people - as f&b folks ourselves, we understand and were pretty unbothered by it. The food was good. Nothing outstanding, but good. Highlights for us were the potato taquitos and the Baja fish tacos. Where things really fell south is when we got our food: no check in for both courses, no asking for another round of drinks, and then were left sitting with our empty plates for what felt like an eternity but was probably around 15-20min post eating. I literally watched 4 server's assistants slowly walk by to see if they could bus our table, with each time none of us touching our plates, to then have all 4 pick their eyes back up off the table and move on with their circulation... Eventually plates were picked up and we had to ask to look at a dessert menu, which mind you is by far the weakest part of the menu: literally 3 items lol. You have an array of tasteful twists on margaritas and drinks, but literally have 3 desserts, and none that at least caught our eye. Israel never came back to see if we wanted dessert, or again acknowledged the bday at the table. We had to ask for the check before he came back and asked if we wanted dessert before then giving us the check. We asked to split the items on the check amongst couples and were told we could only split evenly. Again, we all work in the industry and know this isn't true - you can technically split it as many times as you want and take as many cards as you want, but understand some tables might take too much advantage of that. If this truly is your policy though it should be advertised a little more noticeably, even if it's tastefully placed on the menu. Again typically wouldn't be bothered by that, but it was just the icing on top of the cake of which seemed like could be a good experience at the start of the meal to then soon after be left disappointed. Lastly, one of us were also staying at the hotel attached and were told upon arrival they'd get a $15 f&b credit for room service or at the restaurant, but Israel seemed to know nothing of the sort. Maybe it was a misunderstanding at check-in or maybe this kinks are still being figured out but again, just one more bad mark in our experience. read more
