Koco Sushi is consistently great food and lovely service. I've been visiting for years now and it's always fantastic. Love this place!

Really wanted to like this place, unfortunately even though the place was completely empty and I was the only customer the lady barely even greeted me because she was eating while I arrived with my daughters, so we took a seat on our own and waited for a very long time before she brought over some menus. Once we got our food, miso soup was cold and watered down, we ordered 2 rolls and I had to ask her multiple times for soy sauce, bowls and even though we ordered 2 rolls we didn't get the plates to dip the soy sauce and asked her for wasabi and ginger and it was never brought. I am very confused about the reviews as this place did NOT reflect in anyway any standard of being a sushi spot. Their service and quality was simply not there, this seems to be more of a Thai tea and coffee place. I was really misguided by the reviews and the fact that my daughters were crazing sushi. read more

I left a meeting and was hungry, I had time as the bus was not coming for another 20 minutes figured I'd jump in and grab a bite. I ordered salmon hand rolls. They were fresh I asked for more Wasabi I like it hot she gave it to me with a smile and teriyaki space to as I like to put it on my rice. She is a super woman tending to all customers, cleaning up when they leave also assuring the next people will get a clean table I ate and paid. Stepped put and 3 minutes later bus came. I went a couple of months ago for the first time. It was super busy so that was a good sign. There was a confusion with my order, someone took my order and I took theirs. I called and the lady was super nice about it. She told me to eat that one and that she can make my correct order but I was already in work and the sushi had avocado which I am severely allergic to. The next day I went back and she gave me a refund. She was extremely worried that I didn't eat that day and I was super touched about how worried she was. Luckily I did eat the tempura so I still ate. Honestly from what I did try it was super delicious. I went back with my girlfriend to actually sit down and eat there. It was amazing service and really quick. Suprising find in Santa Ana. The place looks kinda sketchy when you walk in. It looks more like a Boba Tea take out joint then a legit sushi restaurant. There were only a handful of tables and the tables and chairs are very basic. There is no sushi bar with Sushi Chefs making your food in front of you as you would expect. But surprise: The menu has got a great selection of sushi, sashimi, basic and hand rolls, baked rolls, tempura rolls, no rice rolls, bento boxes with hot food, noodles, poke bowls, and appetizers. I decided to order the Chirashi to see about their sushi quality and variety. Very impressed!! Had great range of fish and it was all delicious. The tamago (rolled egg omlet) was also excellent. They say that you can tell the quality of a Japanese restaurant by their tamago, I'm no expert but this place definitely know what they are doing. read more

I actually work really close to this place and I personally love sushi, so I was excited that Koco popped up. They got a pretty good bento box deal for lunch going on I must say. ITEMS I LOVED: - Two-Item Bento Box: so this comes with a delicious salad and miso soup on the side. You choose two items and it comes with rice. Personally, I get the salmon teriyaki and the spicy tuna cut roll. They are the perfect pairing and make for a wonderful lunch. SERVICE: I think this could be better. I've only ever taken out, but sometimes when you get there, they try to serve other people first before they do you. I know they are small and busy with one person at the front, so I get how it can be tough. PRICE: two item bento box comes at $11.99! Though there are many sushi restaurants scattered throughout OC, Koco is a prime example of a small family owned shop designed and run with care. It shows in all aspects you will read about below. ==Interior== Though the exterior is unassuming, the interior has fantastic artwork and unintrussive pop music playing in the background that somebody in the family has seemed to handpick. COVID or not, the seating between tables is spacious enough that, accompanied with the music, you can hold a private conversation while still not yelling. ==Service== Given the light-moderate foot traffic, the cashier and the server are one in the same. Classic sign of a family business, all the more reason to support! ==Food== I decided on the two item bento box after playfully declining the upselling of the 3-item. The salmon roll was pretty standard and need no further mention. The shrimp tempura was just perfect. Fried light enough that the coating was crisp and airy rather than dense and hard from over cooking. They managed to just fry it enough so that I also didn't have a mouth full of wet batter. Although not primarily a boba shop, I decided to give the ube boba a try. The boba pearls themselves were soft and probably boiled right before ordering rather than in a batch, likely given that the drinks do not get ordered that often. The ube drink itself came out with an unpleasant sour taste that I was not expected. I would recommend against the ube particularly, although the other flavors I cannot comment on. ==Overall== Koco has a few of their items to improve or take out completely from their menu, but what items they do get right are worth the trip. The dining experience is pleasant overall, and being a small family business rather than a set menu with delegation makes for a recipe for a potentially great restaurant. Everything was great.. the only thing the crab shrimp hand roll should have stated imitation crab not just crab that's misleading all I am saying don't expect real crab.
