All my friends were raving about the restaurant and I finally had the opportunity to try it out! We got here about 10 minutes to 6 and found parking right away in the plaza. There was only 1 group ahead of us and we were seated pretty quickly. If we got there 10 minutes later, it would've been a 25+ min wait! It got packed super fast. We ordered: #1 - it was pretty bland and you have to add your own salt and onions that they provide on the table. Probably won't order again. #2 - probably their most popular dish! The soup was super flavorful and comforting on a cold day. #11 - the meat was super tender and the dish was huge!! It can be split with 2 people which was why we ordered 3 dishes for 4 people. I think I still like the Korean tofu soups more than these types of Korean noodle soups though. read more

Such yummy Korean food. They're known for galbi tang which is clear beef bone broth with noodles. It came with a lot of meat, a small bowl of rice and as much green onion as you want in it. The broth was well flavored but light. I found it was perfect with some salt and kimchi mixed in (just personal preference). Also tried the mul naeng myun, which is these really chewy noodles in cold broth with small chunks of ice. It was really flavored well and would be absolutely perfect on a hot day. It was a nice surprise that they brought small bowls so we could split the sulung tang and they split the cold noodles into two bowls for us. A meal comes with three different types of really delicious and well flavored kimchi- cucumber, white radish and cabbage. I will definitely be back :) read more

I did the take out of the braised spicy short rib. The meat does fall off and the sauce is delicious. But I wouldn't say it's above four stars if you have tried other Korean restaurants in LA. But I'm pretty sure it's famous for the soup. I will definitely go and try the soup next time! read more

Had this bookmarked for a couple years and finally got to try it. Why didn't I come sooner?! With a small menu, you know they must be doing well with these dishes. Spicy galbijjim: my first galbijjim, but the short ribs are super tender and hold a lot of flavors. It literally falls off the bone. Galbitang: must try. It is delicious and a great price too! Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and was seated immediately (we came after lunch rush, i heard it can get pretty busy). Ordered the galbi tang, and the food came out relatively quickly. Not going to lie though, I was pretty underwhelmed with the portion size. It was $50 and was basically served in the same Stone pot you can get a bibimbap for $15. At Daeho, a similar restaurant, their Kalbijim is also in the $50 price mark but is ENORMOUS-- so not going to lie I was expecting something like that. The meat was still great though, but honestly the flavor got a little boring after a while. Just a hot stone pot of meat, a few rice cakes, and vegetables though. Service was alright. read more

The food has gone so bad . I ordered spicy galbi jjim , regular galbi jjim and galbi tang. They are all too salty and too much msgs. The carrot and squash in the Jjim has not cooked . I chose this restaurant because it's close to the Central Park.We stopped by with my friend before the Concert in the Park. It was busy but not wait time. The staff wasn't very welcoming.We liked our food-Galbi Tang and Cold Sweet Potato noodles. Tofu soup is very flavorful, and has a good amount of tofu. Barely tea here is very herbal and earthy, nothing like I've tasted before. Love the galbi tang here, but the old pots are very smelly, which make us very concerned whether it's Prop 65 or safe to consume the food in there. This is the only place where the pots smell. Came for lunch on a Wednesday and although it was pretty packed around 1215, the wait was only 5 minutes before I got a table for 2. The menu doesn't have too many options but you know you came for something specifically on the menu. I had only tried Galbi tang at another restaurant so I decided to try out Sulung tang. As a non seasoned soup, which is clearly indicated on the menu, you get to customize the seasonings using what's offered at your table (green onions, salt, pepper). Upon tasting my soup, I added maybe 3 spoonfuls of salt and 2 scoops of green onions. This tasted like enough seasoning, however, the soup had a very strong beefy flavor. I'm not normally too picky about beefy soup but this tasted particularly beefy, in a not so great way.I do have to say that they give you a generous amount of sliced beef and an ok amount of white noodles. My friend liked his galbi tang though so if I'm ever back, maybe I'll give that a try. Each soup comes with a bowl of rice. We also got three banchans (kimchi, spicy radish, and spicy cucumbers). Service wasn't noticeably slow even with the peak lunch hour. The food also came out pretty fast. read more

I came here craving Korean food while visiting the area. I'm used to Koreatown food in Los Angeles, so you know where my standards are. I think all of the reviewers missed this, but I think the star of the food at this place is the radish kimchee. I've had kimchee is so many places in my life but if can't remember having anything as good as theirs - even compared to many amazing radish kimchee in Seoul's seul lung tang places. I really enjoyed the kalbi tang, and I rate it above the spicy naeng meun (I visited the place two nights in a row). But for each night, I made sure I got a refill of the radish kimchee (kak du kee). I would come back here just to have the radish kimchee. read more

When you walk in, add your name to the list. I usually go around 9pm and there's no line. Good amount of seating. Spacious. Private room for larger groups. Menu is very limited, not a huge selection which makes it way easier to choose what to eat. Every time I order #2 Galbi Tang ! Every time it's delicious and quality is consistent! Comes out pipping hot. Love it. IMO much more flavorful than the other soups. You can add your own salt and green onions. The meat is so tender it just falls right off the bone. They give you a sauce that has a sweet and tangy flavor. Must dip meat in the sauce! It is AMAZING. The combination of the noodles, meat and soup is perfect ! All soups come with a bowl of rice. I LOVE KUNJIP!! I've been here on multiple occasions for some nice cold naengmyun to cool down and for some delicious beef bone soup to stay warm. The wait time for each visit has varied but there was ALWAYS at least a line for lunch and dinner (15min to 30+ min). The parking in this plaza is a little tight, probably because Tobang is just a few doors down. Too much great food crammed into one strip haha. Despite how busy they get, the experience is good from start to finish. The house kimchi has just the right amount of crunch and spice. Although they don't have the 9-plate banchan that some kbbq places would offer (don't expect to see potato, bean sprouts, dried fish, fruit salad etc), the three-plate kimchi surely makes up for it. I default to the mul naengmyun for hot days. The broth is not too sweet nor sour and the noodles are always silky smooth. Usually comes with ~2 slices of meat inside, shredded cucumber, sliced pickled radish, and half an egg. I think one time I even got a little cube of watermelon for fun. For chilly weather, basically ANY of the beef bone dishes are recommended. Just like gomtang-dedicated places, they have a massive bowl of green onions and salt for you to season as you please. The beef stew is also rich and flavorful. Although perhaps a bit on the pricey side, there is enough meat mass in there to be at least 2 servings. The service here is quick and while sometimes may take a few attempts to flag down (it can get a bit loud inside), will always help with what we need. read more

My sister and I came here for early dinner on a weeknight. There were plenty of tables available and parking was easy because we had gotten there early. We were seated right away and our order was promptly taken. My sister and I both ordered the galbi tang, or Korean beef short rib soup. It was perfect for the freezing cold day. The galbi tang is to die for. The soup has so much depth and the meat is so tender. I like that there are noodles in there. It kind of reminds me of a lighter, Korean version of pho. I also like that it comes unseasoned so that you can add salt/pepper/green onions to your own personal taste. Many places make it too salty which makes it harder to appreciate the subtle and natural flavors in the soup. I've heard the galbijjim here is also good, so next time I come here I will update with a review on that. read more

Kunjip is in an unassuming Korean plaza in Santa Clara. Unlike the typical Korean restaurant, it doesn't have seafood pancakes, bibimbap, tofu soup, and such fare. Instead, Kunjip specializes in essentially one thing, which is beef soup, and its small menu consists of just a handful of variations of this entree. There was a daunting wait list when we arrived for dinner on a Saturday, though as the staff lady yelled out names many parties did not show up, and we skipped ahead faster than expected. We probably waited around 30 minutes in the end. The four of us shared the large beef stew, which includes potatoes, broccoli, and carrots, a beef vermicelli soup, and soup full of tendons and chewy or jello-y parts. The service was astonishingly fast; we had all our entrees including a few pickled banchan vegetable dishes within 10 minutes of ordering; given the small menu size, I suspect that the kitchen staff just continuously churns out assorted soups, knowing that someone will order them. My favorite soup was the vermicelli one, as I'm a sucker for vermicelli and it was the only soup that I felt didn't need any additional seasoning. They also have a few cold noodle dishes on the menu. Amusingly, the hours in which one can order these noodles is a subset of the restaurant's open hours, and we saw waitresses dutifully collecting the noodles condiments from all the tables at noodle closing hours, on the dot. Overall, I would opt to go to a more typical, comprehensive Korean restaurant than Kunjip, since the former still has a variety of tasty soups and the hot soups that Kunjip offers aren't notably Korean. We only ordered the Maeun Galbi Jjim (Spicy Beef Rib Stew) which is jam packed with short ribs, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, and an egg. The meat was "fall off the bone" tender and perfectly retained the flavors of the stew. The flavors were balanced harmoniously: sweet and savory with a great depth of flavor. The stew is more saucy in consistency, and it complements white rice very well. The perfect comfort food. It was about $20 a person, which is pretty pricey. This place was recommended to me by my brother and his wife. At first, the place looked a little shady and I was quite scared. My boyfriend and I showed up early for breakfast and we were the only one around. We got the Maeun Galbi Jim. I liked the texture and flavor of the stew. It was spicy, but sweet at the same time. When they brought it out, it was boiling and sizzling hot on the stone pot which I reeaaaallly love. The dish itself was $50 and even though we loved the taste, it was not something that we truly believed was worth the cost. Although the amount of food they give can probably feed 2-3 people, which is not so bad when you split the bill. The thing I love most about this place the fact that they have a huge bowl of green onion just sitting there for you. Their side dishes were really good and I really enjoyed my time there. Kunjip is this super authentic Korean restaurant that opens at 9am everyday. They only have 11 dishes on the menu but they are the best hangover cures one could ask for. We had the Beef Short Rib Soup (Galbi Tang) and Cold/Iced Soup Noodle (Mul Naeng Myun). Both superb (beats everything in SF). Their kimchees are really good too. The napa cabbage kimchee is on the salty side, less sour. They taste great when paired with the Naeng Myun (which I tend to add quite a bit of vinegar into). Get over with the distance. Even if you live in SF, just come down to Santa Clara. It's worth it. *Note, I heard they are strict on the closing time. So try to come earlier than later so you won't be declined services. read more

Love the Sul lung tang here and the bibim nang myeon. Sul lung tang is a savory beef stew that comes with beef slices, noodles, and rice. Make sure to put salt (they leave it bland so you can season it to your preference), pepper, and green onions. For spice lovers you can also add dadaeki. This place is different than the typical Korean bbq spots or Korean restaurants you're used to. You won't find your typical spicy pork or bulgogi beef or kim chi tofu soup here. My friend raved about the quality of the soup and meat here, so we gave it a shot. We got here on a Sunday around 5PM. There was already a wait with people waiting outside. It's a small clean restaurant. Fortunately they're pretty quick at getting people in and out. We got seated in less than 20 minutes for a group of 4. My friend ordered us the first soup on the menu (ox bone soup with noodle and beef), one of the cold noodles (it was spicy and red), and the last item on the menu, the infamous maeun galbi jim (beef short rib with house spicy sauce, potatoes, carrot and egg). We didn't know the maeun galbi jim was at least $40 until towards the end. Our friend sure did tricked us, but it was worth it! They brought out appetizers which consisted of pickled cucumbers, potatoes, and kim chi. The kim chi was so good and had a slight kick! So good. Our favorite dish was the maeun galbi jim, the beef short rib. The meat was so tender and juicy and the house spicy sauce was delicious. My friends who don't eat spice were suffering throughout the meal but definitely agreed that the house spicy sauce was good. The ox bone soup was white and doesn't have anything added to it, it's plain ox bone flavor with beef. The soup was very comforting but to the average joe, it does taste plain. However, there are salt, scallions, and other condiments on the table to enhance the soup. I added salt and scallions and the flavor of the soup increased greatly. I would recommend trying this soup if you've never had it before. Although I do prefer the spicy kim chi tofu soup, this soup isn't so bad on a cold day. I wasn't very fond of the cold noodles. I've never liked my noodles cold, but that is simply my preference. Our bill came out to around $22/person. I wasn't expecting to spend that much but we had no regrets. This place was definitely different than the other Korean places I've tried and I wouldn't mind bringing the bf here to try the spicy beef ribs, it's that good! Don't expect great service. I've heard complaints about terrible service but they barely speak English here, so give them some credit! read more
