Thia is a legit korean soup restaurant. I love places that just do one thing and do it well. The seoullungtung is just right and done well. The galbi tang is on point- really delicious and very flavorful broth and super tender and tasty beef. The ban Chan is good too- really like the gukdugee especially. Only downsides are long lines especially on weekend evenings and the PRICES $$. A table for 2 & we did tip, but it wasn't enough?? If this place literally chases people to tip, they should just raise the prices and add it on automatically to their menu. When I came here on Friday around 11:30AM, there was already a line out the door, it took us another 15 mins to get a table for two. The service is quick and swift, most likely because it is the lunch rush hour. I ordered the Bibim Naeng Myun and it was off the chart! Few tips: 1) Week day lunch time is packed and seating is limited for groups, so either come here at 11 when they open or after lunch rush to get a group table quickly 2) Try to figure out what you want to order prior your visit, or review the menu while you are in line. Beef, broth, noodles - ALL gone. The broth smelled and tasted absolutely delicious. It was flavored well and wasn't too bland or too salty. The beef short rib was soft, tender, and chewy. I made sure to dip it in the sauce provided, but even without the sauce it was still delicious as is. I am literally salivating right now typing this. I also shared the Bibim Naeng Myun with my boyfriend. The cold noodles had the right amount of spiciness for me. It was spicy, but not completely overwhelming to the point where I had to drink water right away. This would be the dish to get on a hot summers day when you just want chewy refreshing cold noodles to slurp. The check came out promptly when we were almost about done eating. The only gripe I really have about this restaurant is their service isn't that great. Bless her heart for travelling all the way from Berkeley to try this place out with me. We ordered the Galbi jim and it was very flavorful and delicious. Comes with beef short ribs with house special soy sauce, sweet potato, carrot, sesame seeds, and boiled egg. The meat was so tender and fell off the bone fairly easily, but they give you a pair of scissors to cut the meat. My only complaint is that the dish was very expensive for the amount of food you get ($47.99 before tax/tip). We ended up sharing the dish and got twice sides of rice. FINALLY a naeng myun place in NorCal that I enjoy. I've been searching for a Korean restaurant that serves *tasty* naeng myun since I've moved up here and to my surprise, I stumbled upon Kunjip after dropping off my bf at the San Jose International Airport. This plaza has VERY limited parking so prepare to come early to sign your name up for a table. Since I dined by myself, it took about 15-20 minutes to get a table. I was very surprised at the fact this restaurant as a very limited menu. It was nice to know they serve items that they specialize in. I ordered the mul naeng myun since it is my all time favorite cold noodle dish for the spring/summer. Before enjoying your cold noodles, I recommend cutting the noodles so that it'll be easier to eat. Once you cut up the noodles, you have the option of adding in vinegar and horseradish mustard to your liking. The sweet potato noodles were soft and tasted great with the broth, sliced beef, egg, and vegetable toppings. To my surprise, this restaurant adds pear to their naeng myun. At first I was taken back by this addition but once I had it with my noodles, it was extremely refreshing. The combination of the vinegar, noodles, broth, and meat all together was fantastic. Once I'm finished with the noodles, I like to drink some of the broth afterwards. The side dishes were delicious as well. I usually opt for only the kimchi, but this time, I found myself trying all of the spiced side dishes. My favorite was the spiced cucumbers! I wish this restaurant gave the option of having a combo of mul naeng myun and a smaller order of the bibim naeng myun as that's what I usually get at other Korean restaurants in SoCal. Seriously, there's a lot of beef in there! The oxtail soup ($20) is good too. A nice healthy broth to wash down the rich galbijjim. It's slightly sweet from the jujubi. Sprinkle some green onions on top. The staff gave a high-nosed impression when they addressed and handed stuff to us. It wasn't even busy when we came around 2p. Usually however, you should expect a wait at lunch or dinner times because this place is popular. The parking is in the plaza so its very easy. Solid place for kalbi tang! It's a tiny bit pricey for what you get, but oh so soothing when you have a bit of a cold or need something to warm you up on a chilly day. The soup is flavorful as is but you can add scallions or garlic. I also really like the light sauce that comes with the soup to dip your big chunks of kalbi into - slightly spicy, and you get some rice as well. I wish they would add more glass noodles or kalbi chunks. Someday I'd like to try the kalbi jim but it's a bit expensive for 2 people. I think the portion size is quite large so maybe it would feed 3-4 people. They also have spicy cold noodles which I haven't tried but perhaps in the summer! It's quite crowded on the weekends, but I've never had an issue finding parking in this plaza. Galbitang! It is one of my favorite soups and Kunjip is the place to get it! This restaurant specializes in korean soups, cold noodles, and braised short ribs. Galbitang has a clear broth but don't let that fool you. It's packed full of flavor and tastes super clean. The short ribs are fall off the bone and the jalapeño and vinegar sauce is a perfect pair for the meat. One of the best things at the restaurant is the huge bowl of chopped green onion that you can scoop into your bowl at the table. The side dishes are one of my favorites, especially the kimchi! We arrived at around 4:30 pm on a very hot Sunday, hoping for some cold beef noodle soup (mul Naengmyeon). There was a crowd waiting to be seated but we got our table within a few minutes. Ordered the Naengmyeon and also the short rib soup (galbi tang). All dishes were delivered along with the kim chee very quickly. Everything was very good. We especially liked the short rib soup - it was very flavorful. We couldn't get enough of the radish kimchee. If course, the Naengmyeon hit the spot. Unfortunately the service can be hit or miss. One waitress accused us of not paying tip when she noticed an unsigned customer receipt. The galbi tang is nice and comforting, clean broth with a decent portion of sweet short ribs. Remember to add salt and green onion to the soup! I like to add salt as I go rather than all at once in the soup. The naeng myun was nice and chewy. After coming back from Korea, I was really craving some good naengmyeon, but I slowly came to find that this dish isn't as widely found here. To my surprise and delight, I stumbled upon Kunjip while I was waiting next door at Tobang, so I decided to give this place a try. The menu here is very very simple. You can get 1 of 5 things. If you're a vegetarian, this isn't the place for you, as all their dishes contain either pork or beef. Simplicity isn't always a bad thing when it's done right. I ordered the bibinaengmyeon and it was delicious. They had a good amount of sauce and were very generous on the toppings. My one qualm was that the texture of the noodles was a bit off. They seemed overcooked because they clumped together (I know these noodles normally clump up) and parts of it was mushy, which I found to be unappetizing. All entrees come with 3 side dishes: spicy radishes, spicy cucumbers, and kimchee. All three worked well with the entrees they had. If you're looking for a place with a ton of banchan, then this isn't the place for you. I also really appreciated that they had the mustard and vinegar to go with the naengmyeon. If my craving for naengmyeon ever hits, you know where you can find me! Honestly, I still prefer Sun Nong Dan in LA than Kunjip. Not only me, but my party of 8 thought so too. We had just eaten Sun Nong Dan 2 days before we visited SF and my friend who used to live in San Jose told us to go to Kunjip for better food than SND. So, wanted to prove her statement, we visited Kunjip for dinner. The menu in SND is more varied than Kunjip. Kunjip only has like around 10-11 choices of dishes. The 8 of us ordered the short rib stew (one regular and one spicy) and one sul lung tang (ox bone soup) for my sickly bf. The food came out pretty quick. The taste of the short rib stew in Kunjip was favored towards the sweet side. I personally liked the original better than the spicy one, probably because I compared the spicy one to SND. The portion was similar, but I feel like the one in SND has more meat (maybe I am biased). Overall, if you're living in Santa Clara area then this might be a good dining place, but for me LA-ers I would not go back to Kunjip because I have SND located 5 mins from my place. This restaurant is located in Santa Clara's Koreatown in the heart of Silicon Valley. It has a limited menu of approximately 20 items of jigae stew, soups, and naeng myun noodles. Restaurants in this area seem to specialize in certain menu items instead of an expanded menu. The restaurant makes it's own naeng myun noodles, and the locals come here for this. (Their kim chee is freshly made.) They make a spicy kalbi chim, which although large, is expensive at over $45 a pot.
