Daniel Boulud's midtown east seafood forward restaurant does not disappoint. Five stars all around for wonderful food, friendly attentive service and a serene contemporary interior. This place has been on my go to list for several months. We snagged a 7pm resy on a Saturday night to celebrate my bestie's bday. The cocktails are expertly crafted and the wine list curated with the care and selection you would expect from a Boulud establishment. I had a gorgeous Chablis by the glass. There are two menu options: a three course prix fixe which is quite well priced for this caliber of food and dining experience as well as a six course tasting. We opted for the 3 course to give us a chance to share and taste more dishes. What was so nice about this menu was the variety of options from land and sea for the two courses as well as the scrumptious selection of sweet endings for dessert. I started with the Asperge Salade, then onto the Black truffle halibut with mushroom consommé. I finished with the Noisette which is basically a Ferrer Rocher on steroids. Others snacked on foie gras with green apple, grilled avocado, and octopus/prawns (Crevete) All were beautifully presented and delicious. The Homard entree was spot on. The surprise of the night was the vegan "cannelloni" dish which was out of this world. The cheese course is nice if you're into savory for dessert. We also shared the Armagnac (a must for dark chocolate lovers) as well as the cerrise which is a chocolate cherry creation. They provide these tiny cream puffs, one with pistachio and the other with caramel, almost like a petit four to finish. Just a fabulous experience overall. It has much less pomp and circumstance than the flagship Daniel (which we love love love). The crowd is smart looking so it is best to dress to expectation. Men do well with a sport coat but it's not necessary. Looking forward to returning. PS. The restaurant is located in the stunning One Vanderbilt (corner of 42nd) second floor. Superb dining experience! Wanted to do something special and try something different for my boyfriend's birthday and boy did Le Pavillon delivery! We went with the pre-fixe menu which was perfect for trying a variety of menu options. For our appetizers, we got the oysters and the black truffle salad. These oysters were unlike any grilled or baked oyster I have every had - simply magnificent! For our entrees, we got the scallops and the duck and ordered a side of truffle mashed potatoes which were all delicious but we both agree that the duck was the best. Lastly we got dessert, I admittedly don't remember what they were but I do know that one was a flourless cake and I believe the other was something with chocolate and hazelnut mousse. While Le Pavillon won't be a regular on our list, we will keep it top of mind for special occasions. read more

Let me preface this by saying I really hate super high-end restaurants like this. Not just La Pavilion, but all super high-end restaurants like this. There were five of us and the bill was over $1000 and we 3 of us had the pre fix. a drink maybe two apiece and a bottle of their least expensive, as in under $100, Wine. The Issue for me is, while the food was very good. There's just nothing that justifies that kind of price. I understand they have overhead the spaces incredible really three or four story high ceilings. They must pay around 100,000 or more month. The service was great a bit heavy on the upsell, but very good. The atmosphere was quiet and nice, and the food was good I left satiated, but there's just nothing that justifies that tab. read more

I wish I hadn't waited so long to write this review because I cannot for the life of me remember any specifics about my experience here. The interior is so beautiful, and it's a restaurant that perfectly encapsulates why I love NYC so much. You can see the tall skyscrapers from basically anywhere in the restaurant, and I love that they made it feel like a small park/forest. Service is impeccable. I think the food was pretty good but didn't have that wow factor. Portions are pretty great, and I remember feeling extremely full at the end of it. I wish I could speak more to specific dishes, but I do remember thoroughly enjoying my experience. read more

Last Saturday I went for my friend's birthday dinner and I was just blown away by how beautiful the place was , how lovely the staff was, and how delicious the food was. Latina the waitress was so attentive and helped us with the menu and gave so much detail on the different dishes. Every single member of the staff was beyond amazing . There aren't enough words to describe how amazing Renata ( the service director ) is. I mentioned I love the butter that they serve with the bread and she made us to go bags with the bread and butter . She took some Polaroids of us at our table and attached them to a birthday card that she chef had signed . It was truly a special dining experience that we will never forget! read more

The space is spacious and beautifully done minimalistic, but very comfortable and pleasant. The service was excellent although the Sommelier could've been friendlier. This is the second Boulud restaurant I've been to this and Gratin both are very overpriced with average food. The bluefin, tuna appetizer was average. My white asparagus was great. The black bass was very good and the Wagyu flank steak was incredibly chewy and average. For these prices, I expect an exceptional meal, which just wasn't the case unfortunately. Also, a pet peeve is they don't have black napkins for people wearing dark colors suits so be prepared to get white lint all over your pants. read more

The only thing French about LePavillon is the wait staff's obnoxious attitude! We visited the restaurant for a mid summer lunch because my husband saw their lone star online! Initially I found the menu rather uninteresting! Nothing jumped out as a must have! After pondering I realised that it was Bolud's nod to the ubiquitous chichi nonsense that has captured the NYC culinery scene! Nods to avocados, chilli, hot pepper, kale and sashimi peppered the dishes! Little seemed genuinely French! The decor was high tech Minimalism with soaring ceilings, bare tables and cute little mini daisies on each table! The only nod to decor was a hanging glass sculpture which was probably inspired by Dale Chihuly and reminiscent of Venician glass! It too was colorless! Our entrrees were similarly unimpressive: a Lyonaise Chicken salad Via rotisserie chicken and some flat iron steak! We have dined in Michelin Starred restaurants around the world and we wondered how this joint earned its star! The only highlight was desert which was quite good and even interesting, although my cheese platter was nothing special! All in all for the $300. Plus tab, we should have gone next store to Grand Central's Oyster Bar for some really good food! read more

Pre-fixe for 2, plus 4 cocktails ended up pretty close to what we spend at most high end spots around the city. She thoroughly enjoyed it, especially getting the perfect photo in the creative space. Octopus, foie gras apps beautifully presented. And then lamb and Arctic char (my favorite fish). One Michelin star worthy. Asked for a cappuccino (do you want it served with your dessert or before? With..) and never got it. Had to remind them after they had already taken away the dishes from our beautiful desserts. No one came by until then. I had sparkling and she had tap water, but they kept coming by and topping off her glass with sparkling. Had to have it replaced twice. I had the opportunity to dine at Le Pavillion this week with a group of colleagues. We were a party of eight and really appreciated that there was a round table large enough to accommodate us, as conversation flows so much better that way. The decor and finishes are your standard organic/modern/minimalist stuff that puts all the attention on the food, and there's nothing wrong with that. (Though I will admit that some of the tropical plantings are a bit reminiscent of a late 80s suburban shopping mall, and I was half expecting to see a koi pond full of pennies tucked in somewhere.) Our waiter was wonderful- charismatic but not obnoxious- and made terrific suggestions. The bread (especially the olive bread) and amuse bouche were lovely and enjoyed by all. For the first course I had the oysters Vanderbilt. I don't eat oysters all that often, but the preparation of these was absolutely to die for. Really. So unique! I could have eaten this for all three courses and left happy. We subsequently shared some pasta dishes. The spaghetti langoustine looked so simple at first glance but was best red sauce I've ever had- very bright and fresh with a hint of spiciness. The champignon pasta dish (vegetarian) was a bit richer but equally good. They seem to really know their way around a mushroom here. For the second course I had the duck. It was perfectly cooked (medium) and complemented well by the accompaniments, but maybe not the most interesting choice of main. The people on both sides of me had the sole, and it looked great. We also shared ALL the sides, the star of which was, for me, the mushroom fricassée. For dessert we ordered one of each and passed them around- a great suggestion by our waiter. It was hard to choose one winner here, but some standouts were the vacherin/fruits exotiques- an interesting mix of soft sorbet and fruit and crispy meringue that no one expected to like but was in the end among our favorites; the chocolate biscuit - rich chocolate and coffee flavor with little to no sweetness; and the brown butter and almond financier with spiced pear- the configuration made it one of the more difficult desserts to share, but we made it work. Also popular were the additional mini choux bun things that were brought out separately- particularly the pistachio. It was fun to try so many things, but in the end it was a bit too much food with all the extras we ordered. If I come again in my own I'll stick with the simple three course menu (currently $145, which feels like a rather good value given the quality) and leave satisfied rather than stuffed. read more

Located right next to the Grand Central Terminal, Le Pavillion offers exceptional food with creative and modern twists. The vibe is fancy but relaxed, with its greenery and bright lighting, making it perfect for a special occasion. However, if you compare the ambiance to other restaurants of the same caliber, it is on the casual side as opposed to formal and ritzy. Though, the staff were all extremely friendly and brought the experience to another level.  In terms of food, we, unfortunately, were not very hungry and opted for the 3-course a la carte menu instead of the traditional degustation menu. While we were a little skeptical about the a la carte menu and didn't know what to expect, seeing as it was our first time ordering in such a fashion, it was an exceptional experience. Practically the same as the other course menus but with more volume and fewer dishes.  Bottom line, food was great, especially the top-notch desserts curated by the Japanese pastry chef. Really high quality (same goes for the rest of the food) and not too sweet.  In terms of drinks, the wine list was extensive and excellent, albeit listed at a higher than usual price. Unfortunately, as I only had the 3-course a la carte, I was not able to delve deeper into the wine-tasting experience.  Overall, a solid restaurant if you're looking for a not too formal fine dining experience. I've always been a fan of Daniel Boulud and his restaurants. A trip to one of his restaurants is mandatory if I'm in NYC. I chose Le Pavillion because it was walking distance from our Hotel. Le Pavillion is very beautiful. The ceilings are very high, and the space is not cramped. The menu is fixed price at $145 for three courses. My husband and I chose Spaghetti with Lobster as our appetizer. It was perfectly executed, the pasta was cooked just right, and it had the perfect amount of saffron. For entrees I went with Scallops, and my husband chose the Atlantic Sea Bass. I think that the Sea Bass was the better of the two. A side of truffled Potato's was delicious. Our desserts were Chestnut Mont Blanc, and Pineapple Cheesecake. The Mont Blanc was the clear winner, but the Cheesecake was hardly bad. This were our last dinner in NYC, and clearly our best. Prix fixe lunch for $78 for 2 courses or $95 for 3 is an amazing deal. Wines are pricey and I got the cheapest red at $19 which Was just ok. Otherwise the meal was scrumptious. Are: Two courses Plus side $14 I went with the flounder and the corn with truffles plus the chocolate mouse. Total $103 before tip Bread service was excellent as expected. The flounder was perfect, very French with mushrooms & turnips and the corn the ideal side & a luxurious pairing. The chocolate mouse was perfection. Service was also top notch. This restaurant had me speechless at almost every course, but me start at the beginning. We were running a bit late for our Saturday night reservation so I called the restaurant to inform them. No big deal to them and they thanked us for letting them know. We got to our reservation 15 minutes late and we're politely welcomed and immediately escorted to our table. We got a handful of hellos and welcomes en route to our table (which can I mention is made up of path of greenery!) The group of us girls are super excited to be there and our energy was immediately matched by our server Anthony. Energetic, cracking jokes, and also VERY helpful and informative on the menu. We all decent to have one of those "let's ball out moments" and went with the six course tasting menus (one vegetarian). HOLY COW. I when I said speechless earlier, I truly meant it. Each course came out extremely unique, with a fabulous presentation, and was insanely delicious! Two of us also decided to have some wine along our journey and Anthony gave us the PERFECT recommendations. I cannot recommend this place enough. Even if you're doubting the tasting menu. JUST DO IT. We thought some dishes we wouldn't be fans of and that we'd walk away hungry, but we were totally wrong. Clean plate club on every dish and a few (like the squid ink spaghetti, mushroom, and squash dish) that we would have loved to have seconds of. We went here for my birthday. Even though I stated in the resy that I would like to sit at one of the greenery booths, they still sat me next to the window, which was a bit disappointing. The restaurant was beautiful, especially close to the wooden wall and the greenery booths. Anyway, all the waiters and waitresses at our table were so sweet and attentive. We tried 6 dishes for two people prix-fix menu: - Bread service: three types of bread and served warm, really good - Tuna: this dish was beautifully plated and tasted yummy - Veal shank: this was a must-try. We were both so happy with this dish. The veal was tender inside and crispy outside. The ragout and garnishes went well with the veal. - John dory: yummy and beautifully plated but a tad salty - Ribeye: tender and so delicious, another favorite - Dessert (noisette|jivara and cafe|chocolat): both were not too sweet and very chocolatey. I enjoyed both but should have tried one non-chocolate one. Overall, besides the seating and the john dory dishes, I enjoyed the rest of the evening. SUMMARY: it's a celebration spot, dress to impress, PHENOMENAL ambience, and quite decadent foods. FOOD: the lunch three-tasting course ($95) comes with one appetizer of your choice, one main entree, and one dessert. Appetizer: torchetti pasta: buddhas band, caviar, and lemon zest is quite sour and certainly pairs well with the complimentary bread. This is not an Alfredo cheese pasta-- this is much more refreshing and lighter. Much more lemon-flavor than anticipated. Main Course: the wagyu steak with a potato purée and broccolini was by far the greatest! Each bite was quite literally melting. The sear was great, the seasoning was great, and it pairs extremely well with a nice red wine. Absolutely phenomenal! Dessert: cafe cocoa was the STAR. An absolutely stunning dessert with a rich chocolate drizzle. A classic take on a sundae. Truly a celebratory dessert! Le Pavillon is a restaurant in a new landmark building, One Vanderbilt Ave. It is located in midtown near Grand Central station. I have been to Le Pavillon twice; I enjoyed both of my visits at this restaurant. Food: We ordered chef's tasting menu and tasting of vegetables along with caviar and champagne. Each dish was pretty good. I was able to try both courses but chefs tasting menu was better than the vegetable course. Additional item we ordered was caviar dish, which was fresh and tasty. Dessert were satisfying. Service: Because the tasting course took more time than expected, so we had to ask for a faster service. Server was friendly and attentive though. Ambiance: It was upscale and modern vibes with green plants. I was able to see the Chrysler building from the bar, which was another NYC landmark. Very new and lively ambiance. We relished a wonderful dining experience on our first visit here last week (though our daughter has been here several times with very favorable reports). It's a lovely restaurant, aesthetically pleasing with its high ceilings, openness and green plants and trees. The three-course menu is focused on but not exclusively seafood dishes. And the service -- well, for us it was way above and beyond almost any restaurant experience we've had - and that includes Daniel, Jean-George and Le Bernadin. More about that in a moment. This is a restaurant created by Daniel Boulud, and it is a high-end experience that the creator should be proud of. Our courses included yellowfin tuna, scallops, swordfish, halibut and some delicious beef. There simply wasn't a flaw in any of the preparation. Every dish was fresh, simmering with nuanced flavors. We couldn't stop talking about each scrumptious mouthful. And yes, that sounds over the top a bit, but honestly, it's true. And then there were the servers: an exceptional, brilliantly trained group including a wonderfully knowledgeable sommelier. At one point we had FIVE servers at our table, each one with a separate responsibility, each acting as part of a team. We were blown away. And from what we observed at other tables, that wasn't entirely an exception (though no one else we saw could count FIVE at their table). What else? The bartender mixed up some splendid cocktails (and knew what a Tom Collins was and how to expertly prepare it. The wine list is large but not huge and it offers a very good variety of prices including some very fine and less expensive choices. The desserts, part of the three courses, were not a disappointing way to end the meal by any stretch, and we added a tasty dessert wine. Summary: An exceptional restaurant by all our measures. The entrance is on the first floor where vaccination certificates will be checked (have proof or go elsewhere) followed by a short trip up an elevator to the restaurant on the second level. It was my husbands bday. My son came in from LA for the Le Pavillion experience and celebration of his Dad's bday. Our reservation was for 745 pm. We were originally seated in the back on a long table next to the kitchen. I asked to be moved to the main dining room. We sat at the bar for 1/2 hour until another table was ready. The manager gave us a glass of champagne on the house. We finally got seated for our 3 course meal. All started great UNTIL we got the pasta stuffed with mushroom and wrapped with MELTED PLASTIC. My husband took a bite and almost chocked. We called the server to ask is this dish supposed to be served with plastic. She was horrified and almost in tears. We did not make a scene. Continued our experience. At the end we asked for our check and the manager stated it was comped. That was kind of them. But come on imagine a child bitting into that pasta and choking. What a yummy meal! We came here on a Saturday night around 5:30pm - it was not too crowded at first, but it definitely became crowded over the first hour that we arrived!! The ambience was gorgeous, it almost felt as though you're in this gorgeous garden/forest, all of the plants surrounding you are real, and everything felt peaceful. The service was wonderful. We originally looked at the 6 course tasting for $205, but decided on the three course tasting, because that way you can pick three items that you'd like to try, whereas the six course was pre-selected. With the 3 course, we had ordered the Hamachi, oysters, soul, lobster, strawberry cheesecake, and the chocolate praline dessert. The hamachi was absolutely delicious for those who like more of a sushi styled dish. And for those chocolate lovers, you will absolutely love the chocolate praline dessert!! Definitely worth the hype and efforts to get the hottest reservation in town at the newly opened Daniel Boulud restaurant. The space is both comfortable and gorgeous with the fchandelier and greenery. The food impeccably prepared, with fresh flavors and not overly saucy like a lot of French food (we do love the sauces, but this was deliciously different). We had the 6 course seafood tasting menu so that we could have a sampling of dishes. And added the wine pairing, so that we didn't have to choose from the extensive wine menu. Came in for a weekday lunch with the high expectations that DB has earned, and was still so impressed with the quality and originality of the food! The restaurant is beautiful - invoking it's namesake with a bright space, full of garden greenery. The service was impeccable. There were more than the usual vegetarian offerings on the pre-fixe, so it was actually tough to choose! But I loved the onion tart (which had a delightful, light raclette- like cheese on top). I won't do it justice, but think of a light French onion soup baked into a crisp, buttery tart shell. And the wild mushroom girella pasta was not at all what I was expecting (in a good way!), and had so many textures, and a rich flavor. Somehow, this meal felt indulgent and satisfying, but not at all heavy. My only regret is we didn't have time for dessert, which just means I'll have to go back. So, appetizers, we the CREVETTE | RIZ carabineros prawn, wood-fired octopus, carnaroli rice, ibérico presa, sauce américaine and FOIE GRAS | DATTES roasted hudson valley foie gras, aleppo pepper cornbread, granny smith apple, glazed dates. Very yummy. You can definitely taste the freshness. Main course. We got the HOMARD | POIVRE butter poached maine lobster, vanilla smoked treviso, parsnip, garnet yam, tellicherry pepper jus, and the dry aged steak. Very good too. The lobster is fresh. You can taste the sweetness of the lobster alone. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare, red meat in the middle and pink toward the outer layer. Very good. Desserts. We got FRAISE | MIEL wildflower honey cheesecake, harry's berries strawberries, lemon thyme crumble , and the NOISETTE | JIVARA | milk chocolate mousse, praline croustillant, hazelnut nougatine. The cheesecake with the strawberries was amazing. You taste the sweet and slightly sour taste of the strawberry flavor. The chocolate cake is great too. Just a bit too sweet for my taste. Environment. Super classy and upscale. Def a formal dress code restaurant. Over the food I would give a 4/5. It's not the restaurant's fault, just my own preference, taste wise. For the service and the environment, it's definitely a 5/5. No doubt. It's not a restaurant someone would go to on a daily basis. While Chef Boulud is a major culinary star with well-earned Michelin stars, I don't generally select my restaurants based on nominally elitist criteria like that. Rather I prefer low key venues with delicious food, welcoming staff, beautiful decor and good value. Le Pavillon ticked all of the latter boxes and then some; in fact this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. We made a 5:00 rez on a holiday weekend. We were the first ones to enter that night, but by the time we left around 6:30 the place was almost full. From the moment we were greeted downstairs, to entering the beautiful dining space, we were treated like long lost friends by the friendly professional staff. Le Pavillon's dining area felt like an enchanted garden with live trees and spacious seating areas, and the glass chandelier adorning the bar area was breathtaking. The price fixe menu consists of three courses with plenty of choices for carnivores, vegetarians etc. Our knowledgeable and friendly server Renata was a wonderful host throughout the evening, as was the manager Nancy who stopped by to chat with us. I chose the French 75 (cherry champagne, gin and absinthe) cocktail to start, tart and refreshing. Hubby selected Grimm IPA from their well curated beer selection, which he said had a nice citrus nose. First courses were generously portioned and superb. My yellowfin tuna sashimi app was pristinely fresh, perfect for a warm summer evening. Hubby's app of corn soup with foie gras/toast was sublime and highly recommended. I opted for the lobster entree ($8 surcharge) which arrived perfectly poached, tender and fresh. Loved it! Hubby's scallops were large and fresh, encased in a nicely spiced buckwheat coating. Perhaps the highlight of my evening was the gorgeous lemon and strawberry tarte dessert, a perfect synthesis of tart and sweet. Hubby loved his coffee ice cream sundae, also beautifully plated. Complementary pistachio and caramel pastry puffs were a generous touch and a lovely end to the wonderful evening. Can't wait to return! read more

AMAZING service. Servers here are SO kind and they truly made the experience here so great. I personally didn't think the food was that great (definitely not up to my standards considering the price). I had the 3 course menu for dinner where I chose the tuna tartare as the appetizer, grilled fish as main, and sorbet for the dessert. The food temperature felt a bit off (ex. the grilled fish didn't come hot). In general, I can say I've had better food. On the other hand, I came here with a friend and he really liked the food. The portion is perfect for it being a 3 course menu. They also serve a wide variety of started bread which came cold and hard (which I was disappointed by). But the vibes of this place is amazing! Truly spectacular. Interior design is done so nicely with high ceilings, great decor, clean luxurious bathrooms, amazing lighting at dinner time. Eden exists on Vanderbilt. Le Pavillon uses a garden as a place to pause and be elevated into a gastronomic utopia with unrivaled service and a crescendo of curated courses that create a zen symphony like no other you will experience. The creativity of the food was intricate, balanced and inexplicably superb. Frankly, the foremost private dining experience in Manhattan. Service and kitchen orchestration flowed like a stream in this secret garden with harmonious synchronization. Outside the garden path is the soaring views of the iconic Chrysler Building and Grand Central Terminal through the three story windows framing these New York City landmarks. We were fortunate enough to be in the magical hands of Latina who was the perfect ambassador for this journey. The cherry on top was getting to meet the Chef and his incredible brigade who have undoubtedly placed Le Pavillon on a path to become a legendary destination and a MUST for anyone looking to experience the extraordinary. read more
