Probably had the best Cesar salad, chowder bowl combo here ever!! And the oysters? Chefs kiss!! Didn't get a photo of the oysters because we gobbled them up too fast. My lemonade came out in a huge mason jar. My family had the lobster rolls and salmon...seriously amazing! The service was prompt and so courteous and attentive to our needs. They took the time to answer our questions about some of the menu items. Ambience is great with an indoor/outdoor cafe concept. I wish I could give more than 5 stars! Cute spot on second, great small intimate space with a patio and good ambiance. Love that there are oyster dishes and seafood but don't go hungry.. maybe a good ozempic meal ‍. Happy Hour= Fun Fun Fun. Why: the smaller plates-serving size allows us to save $ and try more & other items on the menu. We always start with The fried Calamari. It comes with 2 great sauces& the coating is tempura style and Not greasy. When temperatures colder = the small bowl of chowder , the potatoes are thin sliced as to not soak up broth.This Chowder is broth centric not "bread bowl -thick" The grand Finale: Shrimp layered onto grits then another layer of classic sauce originated by Paul Prudomme at New Orleans' Commanders Palace. I finally made my way into Liv's on Second Street and the only regret is I didn't make my way in here sooner. The food was phenomenal. We went on a Monday night for a birthday dinner and were so impressed by the flavors of the dishes and the freshness of the oysters (which were 50% off on Monday-- score!) Desiree was our waitress in addition to working the rest of the place. She had time to stop and chat and make us feel comfortable. Other employees would come over to check in on us and the how we were doing, which was nice and not over-bearing. Half-way through dinner, we made the decision we'd be returning here more often. Please know that this review is not for the food as we never got to eat at Liv's. We placed reservations on Open Table for our wedding anniversary at 6:30PM yesterday evening. Despite it being a busy time in the area, we found parking and made our way to the restaurant and were about 5 minutes early. Upon checking in, we were told our oyster bar seats, that were reserved, were given to someone else currently dining. We were asked to sit elsewhere, which included an option on an uncomfortable stool with no seat back...or in the hot sun. We didn't want either. After a while, she said that we could wait 20 minutes and come back. We just decided to leave and not come back. We will never come back. There's plenty of other fish in the sea... read more

I had seen Liv's posts on Instagram for a while and finally had the chance tonight to try it and I'm very happy I did. I took a date here on a Monday night for 1/2 price oysters and the oysters were exceptional. We had the pacific plump, kushi , and a couple other varieties. What was great about their selection is that they had a variety of shapes , sizes , and textures of oysters so you could taste the difference between a west coast and east coast oyster . They did a great job in also not having a menu that was so big it could feel overwhelming The staff was extremely friendly and attentive and made me and my date feel at home . For a point of reference, I used to go to shucks oyster bar in Orange County pretty often . But now that I live in Long Beach I was looking for something a little closer to home with that same vibe. They also had a clam pasta dish with homemade pasta that was very good as well. Liv's definitely exceeded my expectations. We did a byob at their encouragement because they have not acquired their beer & wine license yet. In the meantime, no corkage, they supply wine coolers, glasses & the opener. As for the food, everything we ate was super fresh and tasty. They use only premium ingredients and it shows. Service was excellent as well. I loved the clams, asked for extra garlic, and they obliged. Sopped up that tasty sauce with a toasted slice of gusto bread, very happy. Their oysters were super fresh and delicious, as well as the scallop crudo. The real show stealer was the seaside fries, which are fresh cut potatoes, fried, then doused in a thick New England style chowder with extra crispy bacon tossed in. Gotta try that! I was SO EXCITED to try Liv's so my partner made it a Valentine's Day surprise. When he called to make a reservation they didn't mention that it would be a prefixed menu. This was really disappointing as I'm someone who looks up the menu and gets excited about trying a specific dish before making a ressy. The staff were great, but the menu items were mediocre and for $85 a person I want to enjoy what I eat. We were really bummed that no one mentioned the set menu when we called. Anything else shouldn't be advertised as such, and if the kitchen is going to switch it up, don't complicate what's already great and make it a bad thing. I was in the mood for oysters and found this spot in Belmont Shores. I've been out of town for awhile so had not known about this place. First off...they have a happy hour menu 2 to 6pm. We tried the happy hour mini crudo with scallops..super delicious...my wife's favorite dish. We also had a mini oyster ceaser salad to share off the happy hour menu...which was also delicious. We then ordered a half dozen Pacific Plump oysters which were very tasty..and it's $5 off on happy hour. Great location to people watch. Park on on the street with no valet. Portions were small and they did not have much variety on menu. Most of our party ordered the lobster chowder in bread bowl. The lobster portion was inconsistent with some having pieces of lobster while others did not have any. The high top seating was not comfortable but the staff was friendly and gracious. read more

It is easy to tell that this place uses, cooks and serves high quality seafood. We ordered the seafood tower, mussels, salmon tartar, chiopino, lobster chowder, lobster roll, shrimp gambas, and fish sandwich. Servers were really friendly and attentive. Flavors were on point but there were some execution issues. Cioppino came with 3 large prawns that were practically raw. Which is suprising cause the main entrees took too long after the appetizers came out. The kitchen agreed that it was raw and took it off the check. Before we left i told the front of the house that they need to hose down their store front cause there is a hint of pee smell ( we were seated inside but by the door, the unplessnt scent presumably from the unhoused that occasionally roam the area). read more

We enjoyed dinner sitting on Liv's comfortable patio. The crudo appetizer was probably the highlight (exquisitely delicate flavors), though everything we ordered was very good. We appreciated that everything on the menu was locally sourced and fresh. The prices are very reasonable and additionally helped by their no charge BYOB policy that is in effect until they qualify to serve alcohol. Then we were still hungry, ordered the cioppino and $100 later it didn't feel like happy hour but Highway robbery. Had a great night trying out this new gem on 2nd Street - For anyone looking for fresh seafood, and market-fresh style menu this is definitely a place to check out! I loved the Heirloom Tomato Salad!' Their fresh cut fries were delicious & my friends that got oysters & Cioppino loved every bit. The chefs Megan & Rob have really added something for every palette, and the flavors of the fresh ingredients are enhanced to perfection. Both types of Oysters today were absolutely delicious (Olde Salt & Osprey)! Loved the Gusto bread with olive tapenade butter, the lovely salmon crudo, the buttery lobster roll, and the bright Cava. I liked the scallop crudo but it felt like it was missing something... some kind of punch, but the scallops were tender. The service was terrific!! I'm just not sure what possesses a chef to serve shrimp that is breaded or served in a sauce, without removing the shells. But that's how our popcorn shrimp was served last night. What was the chef thinking? After removing the shells, all you end up with is unseasoned shrimp, and messy fingers. I was told by the waitress that some people like to eat the shells, and while that may be true (a lot of people do/enjoy strange things), I doubt most people do, and I sure don't! Nothing else was anyhing to write home about, plus it was a little expensive, IMO, for what we got. This place might be good for raw oysters (we didn't try any of them), so if that's what you're looking for, it might be worth trying, but we won't be returning. Oh, and finally, service was good. What a great addition to the LB food scene! My friend and I enjoyed lots of things on the menu, family/sharable style, and we did also get our own entrees because we were hungry! We tried the fresh oysters (YUM! had to reorder), caviar and crackers, calamari (cocktail sauce was bangin'), shrimp appi (forgot name), salmon crudo, and mussels (lemongrass was lovely). For entrees, my friend devoured the lobster roll and I enjoyed the halibut. The wine selection pairs well and we left stuffed and happy. They have seasonal menus so we can't wait to come back and try more! What really stood out too was the service.
