Tried Madre again. The food is amazing and authentic. I ordered the Tétela which is made with corn, epazote, mushrooms, quesillo, a fried egg, chorizo and queso fresco. I could've eaten 3 more! The chicharrón tacos was spicy and made with a handmade tortilla. Be ready for real spice! The service is friendly and the ambiance is relaxed. Can't wait to go back!

Checked out Madre on a Friday night. The decor is nice, but the vibe was surprisingly low and it was pretty empty for a weekend. The food was a mixed bag. The Barbacoa Res was incredible and easily the highlight of the night. However, the Cheese Chile Relleno was awful--nothing like what I'm used to, and we couldn't even finish it. As for drinks, the Margarita and Paloma were just average, and we finished with the Tres Leches. Overall, a very middle-of-the-road experience outside of the great Barbacoa.

For exceptional Oaxacan cuisine, Madre delivers with its richly flavored complex moles, tasajos, and tlayudas It occupies a giant space and its bar in the back has a massive wall of mezcal bottles. Madre Enchiladas: If you can't choose, pick them all! On a platter as wide as a pizza with a low rim, the mole sauces are practically overflowing. It's like an artist's palette board with four earthy mole colors. Mole Rojo, is an auburn blend of chilies, nuts, chocolate, and spices. The enchilada's corn tortilla is wrapped around my favorite filling, tender and juicy carnitas. My favorite mole is the Mole Negro, black as the nighttime sky with a deep smoky and sweet flavors. The dry chilies, sesame seeds, nuts, Oaxacan chocolate, and herbs provide a velvety sauce for the chicken picadillo. The darkly hued Mole Coloraditos has a little bit of a spicy kick from its toasted chilies, nuts, sesame seeds, chocolate, tomatoes, and spices. It's hard not to use the shredded beef enchilada to swab the plate clean. I would seriously lick the plate clean if I was at home. OK, the last one isn't a mole. The Salsa Verde is tangy from its tomatillos, green chilies, onions and garlic. The crumbly chorizo and cheese enchilada is comforting. The enchiladas are topped with queso fresco, onions, and parsley. Parking: There's plenty of street parking, but you may have to walk a couple blocks.

We went to Madre on a Sunday. It wasn't really planned, but we were walking in Old Torrance, saw the place and decided to go in and try it out. We weren't really starving, just wanted to check the vibes, try the food and see how it was. Unfortunately, things just weren't how we were expecting. We love mexican food and we are used to the food trucks that we can find everywhere in LA. I used to have tacos from the taco truck across the street from me when I lived in San Pedro and they were just perfect, simple and on point. I think I had that idea when I ordered the taco, but it wasn't really what I expected. It was bigger and looked beautiful, but the amount of spice was extremely high, which didn't even let me taste the flavor. And on top of it, the salt felt off too. Too much spice, not enough salt. My fiance ordered tamales, and the mole was more on the chocolate side than anything. The flavors just didn't match. Service wise we have nothing to complain about. They were nice and helpful! It's just the food that wasn't good for us.

I was overdue for another visit at Madre. I kept thinking about mole three times during the week that's when I know. Seating: usually like to decide beforehand if I want to sit on the patio or inside. Most of the time, I prefer the patio, and that's what we ended up with. Service: Staff immediately offered the heater, which I readily agreed to. Two people spoke and helped us out outside of the waitress, meaning they were constantly checking in on us. This checks out similar to the service I received last time I was here. Food: We had nachos. I had mole and the chido way cocktail. My boyfriend had dark Mexican lager and cochinitta pork dish. I was really happy with our The food was excellent, and my cocktail was truly exceptional. It was on par with some of the best fancy cocktail bars I've visited, yet prices were more reasonable, typical of a restaurant. The mezcal was smoky and delicious. I also noticed that most of their cocktails are tequila and mezcal based. You should get a cocktail if it's your first visit. Vibes: It's always loud, especially at its peak on a Saturday evening. I can overhear bits and pieces of conversations from three tables next to me, but somehow it all fits perfectly. Suddenly, a live mariachi band started playing an emotional Ballad. It's always cool when I run into live music when I'm here. I like it here! Wanted to let you know that they seem to have slightly increased the prices vs the menu? It wasn't updated on the menu, but for example my Mole Negro was $1.50 higher at checkout mentioning so others are aware.

Went looking for a cool upscale Mexican spot! Was heading to South Bay and we found this lovely place in old town Torrance. Even though it's a chain it felt warm, encoring and authentic. The decor was classic upscale modern Mexican. The specialties were the Moles and the Mezcal tequila. The carne asada was tender and super delicious. The trio mole enchiladas were fantastic. Each none was smooth, sweet and chocolaty. The hand made tortillas were a perfect addition to our meal. The service was exceptional. Try Madre where ever you can find one!

Always a good time at Madre, good food & great service. Our out-of-town guests had a great time. For our 2nd visit we had a couple AMAZING mocktails (cucumber & pineapple - see pics, I don't even like cucumber & I LOVED the drink), two shareable dishes (the Parrillada & Molcajete - see vids... the Molcajete we've had a couple times now, it really blew us away when we 1st tried it, I highly recommend. I love how everything is charred & super hot. I enjoyed esp. the chicken & nopales.) My guest took home a tres leches cake which she really enjoyed. I highly recommend :D.

First time here for brunch and it did not disappoint! The chilaquiles (red) were the perfect amount of spice that built while eating the dish. Flavors were bright and fresh. We had mimosas to celebrate and it was a good time! Service was good but we had to ask for our check. Inside was bright and beautiful too! While we were leaving an all female mariachi was setting up!

During our stay we walked over to Madre's for lunch, even though they had a huge work lunch-in in that Wed, food came out in a timely manner. We had fried quesadillas for our starter which were good. For entree we had ceviche, a burrito, a lunch special Oaxaca bowl, and Oaxacan mole entree. All very flavorful and highly recommend the dark mole negro, so good! Place is beautiful and would love to come back for dinner another time.

This location is hidden away in a corner in Downtown Torrance, and we were lucky enough to stumble upon it on a Sunday morning, right before noon. We had plans to stop by a different restaurant and the line was so long, we walked around until we were lucky enough to find this gem! We had my little dog with us and were worried that they would turn us away, but they accommodated us immediately! For a weekend brunch rush, we were extremely happy. We were seated in their outdoor patio area with nice views of the main streets, enjoying the shade and the breeze. Service was great, our waitress was friendly and returned often to see if we needed anything. The brunch menu was great, with many savory and sweet dishes, and items not normally associated with brunch. The food itself was amazing, my family is definitely excited to go back and try the non-brunch items. Will be stopping by again.

I'm glad my wife stumbled upon this restaurant on Yelp. The food here was outstanding. I had the queso fundido and carne asada plate. I'm still thinking about how tasty the dishes were and it's been a few days. The queso fundido was extremely cheesy and paired with the freshly made corn tortillas, they were an unbelievable combination. The flank steak was perfectly cooked. It was tender like it was marinated for hours, and had that smoky flavor that you only get from grilling meat on an open flame. My pineapple flavored "Lupita" mocktail was so refreshing that I had two of them. The food came out quite fast and the staff were very nice. There is plenty of free parking below the restaurant. No need to drive around looking for street parking. This restaurant is a hidden gem in Torrance. It's not just a great Mexican restaurant. It's a great restaurant, period. I can't wait to come back here with the rest of my family.

I used to like this place. Quality has fallen into the abyss. Charge $15.00 for pozole and I only get two pieces of pork TWO! And maybe 12 kernels of hominy. On top of all this they want to charge extra for salsa. Not coming here anymore. read more

Food and drinks were delicious! My teenage daughter had an asada burrito, which she loved. My husband had the barbacoa de res plate with nopalitos, white rice, and handmade tortillas. He loved the freshness of the food and homemade taste. I decided to have the chilaquiles with scrambled egg whites and chorizo. I had been craving such good chilaquiles for a long time! The tortilla was crispy, the red sauce was perfect, and the queso fresco and sour cream did not overwhelm this plate. The pork chorizo was so fresh! For an appetizer, we had chips with guacamole. The guacamole was freshly made and a pretty big portion. Now the drinks- my husband and daughter had the horchata, which at first does not look like the typical horchata, but it tastes great and refreshing. My cafe de olla... I had 3 of them! We will definitely be returning to this hidden gem. The only reason I am not giving Madre 5 stars is because my coffee was like warm, not hot and the chips were a little too hard. read more

Do not come to this restaurant. Came to eat here for the first time on 5/18/2019 4:40 pm. It took 20 minutes for a waiter to come say hello after we were seated (restaurant not busy). Also all of the glasses/bare-wear is dirty. Not a pleasant experience to be seated with dirty cups and dead flowers. After ordering a variety of dishes to same the menu I am sad to say the food is not enjoyable or editable. Best way to describe the food experience is stale food with little flavor: Cucumbers are stale and soggy Chicharon is stale and nasty. Chile Relleno is tasteless. Pointless to eat it. Carnes Asada is not seasoned. Flavorless! Choriso is stale/bland. Does not taste like good chorizo. Handmade tortillas are disgusting. The rice is tragic. Chipotle has way better rice. You have been warn. Save your money. This restaurant is officially overpriced for the quality of food served. Health inspector should come. Most the food food seems to be old and reheated food. Food is not fresh or good based on 12 items we sampled. What's good:). The Goat Birria is good The Cafe de Oya is good. The purpose of this review is for the Chef and owners to fix the service and the quality of food. Take this feedback and make improvements. read more

A great location with plenty of outdoor seating in Old Town Torrance. Good service (a little slow but it was a chill afternoon). We'd been to the Culver City location a few times and decided to try the Torrance location to see what it was like and they take reservations at this location. The food was very good, as expected. For starters we had chicken taquiyos and guacamole w/chips. We all had enchiladas. The only comment is that the pork and steak that accompanied our mole negro enchiladas were very dry and a little tough. The delicious mole made up for it. We had an a la carte Chili Relleno which was fluffy and delicious with a mild tomato sauce. We were stuffed but couldn't pass on thei great desserts. We went for the Churros and the Tres Leches both ahhhhmazing. The churros were fresh and hot with a delish baby scoop of vanilla ice cream with brownie mixed in. read more

I have been visiting Madre since they opened. This was my go to for Mexican delivery until the last two times they delivered me a Oaxacan burrito. Both times the burrito had dried out meat that was so hard that it only broke down into pebbles. The meat was like it was left over from the day before and it had sat under heat lamps al day. I couldn't eat it but the second time, I took a picture of it. The first time I was shocked because I had liked the food their before. They apologized and said they would have someone else make me a replacement. (Why is the bad cook even working there?) They did and the replacement burrito was exquisite. The second time I got a gravel burrito, I felt like the fool. I didn't call again. I will just remember not to spend money there any more. One star is allowed for the decor (that they mainly inherited)with low lights and the cocktails. I had a good cocktail here once or twice. That said, the appetizers were from the freezer !!! How hard is it to make a fresh quesadilla? read more

Amazing food with a sense of place. I was in Torrance for business and wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew I wanted a little more than the average hot-plate Mexicamerican dinner from El Torito. I walked into Madre and sat at the bar and I didn't just get what I asked for - I was blown away. A bar with 250+ bottles of Mezcal, some simple, some fancy, and each labeled with its region of origin. A challenging menu with regional twists - at least 4 different kinds of mole, maybe more - oysters, but topped not only with ceviche but also chapulinas. Did I say chapulinas, that notorious Oaxacan snack? I ordered them, then googled them and wondered if maybe I should have reversed that - they are grasshoppers, a nutty, crispy, toasted, highly spiced kind of insect. I needn't have worried; they were spicy and crispy and nutty and tasted vaguely of the epazote I imagine they might have hopped around in during their brief lives, and they kicked up the super-fresh oysters to another level. Oysters, yes, but this isn't a Yucateca or Baja seafood joint- I think the star here are the sauces, and each one of the 4 different sauces on the 4 Madre's enchiladas was absolutely the bomb, to die for. (If I had to pick a favorite, it'd be the mole coloradito, even though I thought the salsa verde was awesome too.) The meat, all types, wasn't center stage - it was good but this place had a distinctly kick-it-up-a-notch-with-authentic-flavors vibe that sort of took up the whole spotlight. Even the tortillas were a cut above. Did I mention Mezcal? I drank a drink called El Chapo y Kate - I would have thought Sinaloa, but they opted to make it with a Guerrerense mezcal that was perfect - I could practically see the crime lord's defiant glare wafting out of the glass along with the smoky, super-cool and tropical vapors. (The ice cube was geometrically and optically perfect.) I would have had more mezcal but they did not short me - I ordered a short pilsner next (all the beers on tap are Mexican, none are Corona) and had to walk it off. No room for the tres leches cake. I'll have to come back. read more

Been here a handful of times and always satisfied. Pretty authentic food and awesome decor. You can just tell they're put a lot of work into this establishment. The first time I came here I had sat at the bar and it was crowded for the weekend, but thats what made it cool. Ordered some tequila and some beers. Plenty of selection and awesome bartenders. The second time I came in for brunch with my family. Place had just opened so we were seated immediately. The salsa, food, and micheladas were all delicious. I will be coming back for sure. I enjoyed it very much. They also have live music, either mariachi or smaller groups but awesome environment overall. read more

This is an true authentic Mexican restaurant in Torrance. The ambiance, food, cocktails, and servers were all delightful. This will be our new go-to place for Mexican. It far exceeds typical California Mexican restaurants with their ho-hum and tired tacos, chips, and rice and beans! The various moles are the best I've ever eaten in my 68 years. The guac was superb and you've never had a fish taco until you've tried one of these! They make their own flour and corn tortillas on-site and serve them warm. Sublime! read more

Sorry ass service! From the hostess staff to the inexperienced Waitress to the supposed Manager who was a complete joke smh On the bright side, Angelito the bus boy was extremely professional and polite. Matter of fact, he was the only one who displayed authentic restaurant hospitality. The nerve of the supposed Manager to blame him for the hiccup. Either way I won't be returning here anymore. The food was good and decent. But the service... I REPEAT THE SERVICE.. Made reservations for a Saturday night to celebrate my mom's bday. Showed up a little early and they sat us right away. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. We order a couple drinks pina colada , strawberry margaritas and Paloma. Drinks were on point! The queso fundido for app was delicious but wished they would've given us more than 3 tortillas. We got green enchiladas with chicken, shrimp tacos, barbacoa plate and molcajete with chicken shrimp and carne asada. Entrees were amazing and big. If you are unsure one entree can definitely be for two people. Now the ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful and music is not too loud which was prefect! To end our amazing dinner then came out with a small dessert for the bday girl! read more

Terrible experience from start to finish. Been here one other time and figured I would give it another shot. Bad idea. Asked for outside table with heater. Sat down at the only table where a heater wasn't on. Ordered 3 appetizers including the queso dip which is literally just melted white cheese. Not creamy at all completely stringy and plain. Asked for the heater to be turned on 2 more times with no luck. Ordered several main dishes that came out cold and with all dinner plates chipped. Considering the prices and style thought this to be quite tacky. Especially when it's a health hazard and could have had chips of porcelain in our food. Food was just okay. Nothing to write home about. Took a few bites and called it quits. Then waited over 30 minutes for our bill to come. Wouldn't recommend anyone going here. Food and service was pretty disappointing. read more

Literally just left and it was Nasssss-TAY! The ribs had no meat on them - it was pure bones. The pork dish was dry even with the verde salsa. None of us were satisfied at all. Food is very dry even with the mole. The waiter brought back out a plate of beef for us that was half the size of my friends plate. Over priced drinks. Three cocktails were $60 with charcoal taste. They call it smoked taste but it actually taste like burnt bbq. We were beyond disappointed. read more

The review is for the quality of the food. I've been to Mexico various times. Madre, recipes are spot on and they offer authentic spices and recipe ingredients. We were a party of nine, and when we were finally seated we had to wait another 40 minutes until I stood up and asked the front desk if a someone could please come and take our order. Gratuity is already added for parties 6 and larger so not much we could do there. They weren't ridiculously busy so I don't know what happened there. Overall experience was okay. They only have mezcal and tequila for their liquor. El Chapo and Kate was a delicious cucumber drink with tajin on the rim. I also realized that "oaxacan pasta" is the pasta that most of us have had a party where it has pasta, celery, ham, mayo. Was kind of dumbfounded by that lol. I've been here before for drinks and salsa and had an exceptional experience. Their drinks are amazing here. I always order the Froze. Now, I'm no Mexican food connoisseur but every restaurant I've been to has offered free chips and salsa at the start with unlimited refills. I realized 10 minutes in that they had not brought any out and when I informed my server, he said they no longer offer free chips and salsa and that it would be $6. I was so hungry that I said I will pay the $6. By then my order had came out. I ordered the Chicken mole which was extremely underwhelming. I was still hungry after I finished my food. My friend gave me her shrimp since I was still hungry and it was impossible to peel. It was stuck to the shell which indicates that it's old or has been sitting. When I got the bill I was confused because it was $140 and I was still hungry??? Personally I wouldn't come again for the food. My server Jose was kind and the ambiance is nice. Such a hidden gem in Torrance! The wait is shorter than most places (in my opinion) and the food is so great. I don't love the mole but the tacos and basically everything else is so great. I want to shoutout the bartender Jorge. He was so helpful and really fast to make drinks and take care of us. I told him I don't like margaritas but he sold me on it by telling me how great the quality was. Such a delicious drink, make sure to ask for it with passion fruit. We were excited to try their molcajete, I was really disappointed as it was too spicy for us specially for my husband, we were not able to enjoy. We also thought that we were going to get rice and beans in the side like they do in some other restaurants they only give you the molcajete by itself. We couldn't get served. We stood for 10 minutes out by a sign at the entrance that said to wait there. We were the only ones standing out there. There was a couple with small children sitting off to the side, but they left after pulling out some water bottles for their children. I think they just stepped over by the front of the restaurant to sit down to attend to their children. It was just before noon and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. I went inside after 10 minutes. There seemed to be one big family at a table off to the left having a meal, and one waiter talking with them. I walked into the bar to the right and there was a woman behind the bar cutting up lines. She had a gold ring in her nose. I just mentioned the ring for purposes of identification because I don't know her name. Perhaps she remembers me because I was there today, Labor Day. She said she would be right out to take care of us. We waited for what seemed like another long while. It was frustrating. A member of our group said we should just leave and walk to La Capilla Family Mexican Restaurant. It was just around the corner. We were seated immediately at La Capilla. The restaurant was busy. We had a fine meal there, good margaritas, and excellent service. It was a great experience at La Capilla. I cannot comment on the food at Madre because we couldn't get any. I don't have any comment on the ambiance because I wasn't inside long enough for my eyes to adjust well enough, after coming in from the bright sun, to get a good look around, other than seeing there were very few people in the restaurant at the time of our visit. read more

the food is pretty good - though the chicharones had what seemed to be bone pieces that almost chipped my teeth so i had to stop eating them. the service was great. the music volume was the problem. the band playing was actually really good but i couldn't get past the pain in my ears, nor the fact that I couldn't hear my dinner guests when they were yelling instead of talking. yelling. couldn't hear them. Just recently revisited Madre a week ago. I think it's time we discussed truth in advertising folks. Madre has a menu that is off the beaten path. It provides a path to Oaxaca, and suggests the food is what was once a sacrifice to the gods. The gods ought to be thoroughly disappointed right about now. We inquired about the spicy margaritas- trust me, I don't like hot and spicy that much. But this drink was tasteless. I am no bartender, but even I could have made a better drink. Jalapeño or not. While perusing the menu, I was hoping the server might make some suggestions, provide his insights, and perhaps make a case for his own favorite meal. He didn't even seem too happy. The hostess had a better disposition. The meals were not even close to what it used to be. $7.00 for one taco and not even beans or rice to accompany the dish? Seems a bit extreme. No chips or salsa without ordering it as a paid appetizer? $5.00 for the salsa? Okay. The salsa was killer. But that's it. My better half ordered a Madres Enchiladas. They were okay. Not quite as exciting as she had hoped for. Just because you douse it all in mole doesn't mean it's going to be epic. No rice? No beans? Okay. I ordered Enchildas Oaxaqueñas with cecina. Again, the cecina was good, but was over shadowed by the mole. With two small 4 ounces or less pieces of the cecina, this dish leaves you underwhelmed. This dish came with rice. It was actually the second best part of the dish. The service is a bit lacking: No offer for another drink? I'd have tried something else to replace the poorly made drink. I ordered dessert. The churros were on point. Just a bit too much sugar. But the dip was fantastic. I hope I am not beating a dead horse here. But 2/5 stars usually doesn't happen anywhere I go. This visit got the 2nd star based partially on the dessert. Come on Madre. Step it up. Madre was great before the pandemic. The menu could use an upgrade, not an up charge. read more

Let's begin with Antonio Gonzalez. A great restaurant starts with incredible service. Even the slightest differential and food can be made up with impeccable service and that's what Antonio brought to Madres. The food such as the for enchiladas with different moles... Super delicious. The Chicharrón with guacamole was absolutely delicious and the charcoal Mezcal margarita was to die for. Came here today with my beautiful Fiancé. I'm saying that this was certainly worth the drive. Don't know why I didn't review this place sooner. I've been here about 15 times and everytime the food is perfect, the staff is nice and accomudating and sometimes I get lucky and catch their live music. The portions were quite small and the prices have surely gone up for the amount of food on the plate. The burrito wasn't bad. Service wasn't great. Waiter never refilled our water glasses. He kept pushing dessert when we weren't even finished with our meal. Ambiance is typical of most Mexican style restaurants. Sorry, but we will not be going back to El Torito.

Would I say they have the best prime rib around? No. But it is pretty damn satisfying. When here, I always order the Franciscan cut Prime Rib cooked to medium (it's 3/4 pounds), house salad with ranch dressing, and steak fries. They throw in a loaf of sourdough bread with whipped butter. The prime rib is very tender and has plenty of fat. We all know fat equals flavor. The only thing I would change about it, and I keep forgetting to ask the server each time I'm here, is to have it served without the au jus already in the plate. Don't get me wrong. The au jus is fantastic, but when the prime rib is served in a pool of it, the meat becomes soggy. Served separately, I think the prime rib would be even better. In addition to the prime rib, the salad and steak fries are incredibly delicious. The salad is nothing fancy, but very tasty due to the ranch dressing it comes with. Wish I knew the recipe of the dressing. The steak fries pair perfectly with the prime rib. It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The only thing I would say is pretty average is the sourdough bread. Although it comes out warm, I don't get the sense that they're freshly baked. The service here is phenomenal. The servers are attentive, polite, and efficient. Can't ask for anything more from them. If you're looking for a trendy spot with contemporary decor and pretentious vibes, this place is not for you. This is an old school steakhouse with red upholstered booths and soft music playing in the background. If you live in the South Bay, and you're looking for a classic prime rib experience, this is a place you should check out.

Madre's is a fantastic restaurant with a wonderful array of flavors, a welcoming staff, and a delightful ambiance. However, my primary concern lies with the noise level. I've visited Madre's around eight times, and each experience has been overshadowed by the excessive volume of the environment. On my most recent visit, there was a two-person band performing on stage, and although we were excited to enjoy some live music, the volume was so overwhelming that conversation became nearly impossible. We requested the staff to lower the volume slightly, but unfortunately, they were unable to accommodate our request. As a result, we left the restaurant feeling like our ears were ringing, which really detracted from the overall experience. It's unfortunate to focus a review primarily on the noise level, but it significantly impacts what could otherwise be an exceptional dining experience. The food at Madre's is consistently delicious and never disappoints. Their drinks are equally tasty, and the service is always attentive. I genuinely can't fault them in those areas. If Madre's could find a way to balance their vibrant atmosphere with a more comfortable sound level, it would truly elevate the experience to the next level. Madre is one of my favorite hang in Old Torrance. I come here often with friends to grab drinks and enjoy excellent Oaxacan cuisine. First off, the vibe is super laid back and chill. It doesn't feel like a run-down taco joint or a super fancy restaurant. It just has a casual but nice restaurant feel that's very relaxing. They have varieties of drinks - beers, cocktails, margaritas. You really can't go wrong with any of them as long as you know what you want. The food is pretty amazing, too. My favorite is the mole negro and birria. The mole is thick and tasty. It's drizzled over stewed chicken leg and goes really well with rice and tortilla. The rich sweetness and savory spiciness makes it such an unique and tasty dish all around. The birria is stewed to perfection. The meat (whether you get beef or lamb) is extremely tender and it simply pulls apart with little to no effort. Definitely a must try if you're around the area. I recently dined at Madre and had a wonderful experience! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and warm. Karol, the manager, was incredibly attentive and ensured that all guests felt taken care of. Liz, our server, was a delight--her friendly demeanor and knowledge of the menu made our meal even more enjoyable. Unfortunately, I had a little mishap when I accidentally burned my thumb on a hot plate. I was quite startled, but Karol and Liz were quick to come to my aid. They promptly provided me with ice and checked in on me to ensure I was okay, which truly showcased their excellent customer service. The service is inefficient, the managers are uncoordinated, carol, Melissa and jimmy are all over the place. Their hostess's are unnecessarily rude and they seem to be under staffed as-well. The food is also neither here nor there, I have visited this establishment multiple times and it's always out late or cold by the time it's at our table. The only thing remotely outstanding about this establishment is the live music which is probably the only thing that makes this un professional and lack luster restaurant worth its while. I wouldn't eat here again and I wouldn't work at a place like this either I truly feel for the workers who lack proper management they need people with proper leader ship skills. But don't expect just regular tacos... these are elevated tacos that taste like something your abuela would make back in Mexico -- full of true, authentic flavor and super filling. Their draft selection of Mexican beers pairs perfectly with the food, but what really makes the experience special is the man behind the bar, Jorge. I sat at the bar and got constantly harassed by the bartender named Brian? He was sweating excessively while making drinks it was gross. The poor guy was probably detoxing, I did see him take a few shots and drink an extra drink that was placed under the bar. His voice was so arrogant and annoying and he kept talking about mezcal, I was just trying to enjoy a drink during my lunch break. The drink was ok the food was not that great. This place is overly priced for what they serve, and their employees are obviously drunks. Though we were initially underwhelmed by the unprofessional front-of-house service, the quality of the food was high. We tried a burrito, the house salad with grilled chicken, and a mole. Madre is a slightly upscale mexican restaurant in Old Torrance. This was my second time here, so I decided to write about it. I went for lunch and ordered the mole negro enchiladas. There is quite a selection of moles, but the waited recommended the mole negro. I prefer a bit more spice, but I added some salsa and that helped. Lovely place, great service and ambiance. You don't get seated until your full party is there, which I think is great. We did patio dining. Our server was great. It is a wonderful restaurant. The food is great. The only problem is I am disabled and the parking is under the restaurant with an escalator. However, I have been their twice and both times the escalator going up was not working. The one doing down was. So I was let off in front and had to walk to the front in some distress.
