I LOVE the vibe of this spot. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but as soon as I walked in I was pleasantly surprised. The smell of yummy Thai hit me right in the nose. We were seated quickly on a Sunday evening. The Tom Yum soup with chicken was brought out first, even though I asked for shrimp. I was in a hurry so I just mentioned the mistake and ate the soup. A beautiful dish with great flavors...the chicken breast pieces in the soup didn't add to the flavor though. My drunken noodles with Tofu were delicious; however, when I mean Thai hot, extra spicy, I mean it. I needed some food to make my nose run. Our server was very energetic and fun to work with. They were pretty and delicious, but not a lot of food compared to other restaurants where I've had sushi, especially for the price. Yummy in my Tummy! Never been to Mali so wanted to try someone place new and I am glad I did! Surprisingly crowded on a Sunday evening!! We started off with the Yin & Yang which sounds much more interesting on the menu then on the table. They were good but the ricotta cheese was minimal so it felt like we were eating fried wontons. I ordered the Tom Kha Soup with Shrimp. I am a big fan of this soup and it was delicious! The soup had mushrooms, cilantro and two nicely cooked shrimp. Soup was great to have considering it was cold in there. We sat upstairs closer to the back windows and it was cold!! Another party had all their coats on as well! So be prepared as it gets colder in Atlanta. For an entrée I decided to try something new so I got the Massaman Chicken. The flavor was delicious!!! There were several pieces of chicken and on first site I thought the portion was small, but after eating it all it was just enough. My only thing is this whole white meat chicken. Sure it's cheaper to use but can it be juicy? Sure the dish has sauce and plenty of it but nothing can really help white meat chicken but cooking it correctly. So to make it awesome I would need juicier chicken, otherwise it was a win for me. We also ordered the Famous Seafood Noodle and it was very good. The portions of shrimp and scallops were great! The only thing is my niece tried to get it with glass noodles and they wanted to upcharge $3. For some noodles? That's like up charging for rice. Oh wait they did that to. I got white rice but my nephew wanted brown and that was an up charged. Really? Upcharge for shrimp sure, but rice and noodles? Errr, not really a fan of that. Overall the customer service was excellent, the food was good and I would go back. Looking at what others ordered everything is presented really nice and looks good! We love coming here for a little bit of a more upscale Thai experience, but you can still wear sweatpants here so it's kinda the best of both worlds. We decided on Mali for a pre-Valentine's dinner (her treat). Parking was a little difficult as the lot that is shared with a few other restaurants was packed but we ended up finding a space across the street. We were seated promptly due to reservations. The seating was rather tight where we were as there was little room to walk between tables. Service: OK It was nothing special as our orders were taken and water was refilled when needed. The wait for our entrees was on the long side to the point where we had to ask when would it arrive. Food: Excellent For an appetizer, we had the beef satay which was very delicious. It was served with a peanut sauce but I didn't need it due to the seasoning. The entrees (when they finally arrived) were great. I had the Spicy Basil Chicken that had great flavor and just the right amount of spice. My GF had the Famous Seafood Noodle which was a mixture of pad Thai noodles, bean sprouts, scallops, shrimp, and a crab claw. She loved it as well. A return to Mali is definite. read more

We chose Mali's because we figured they wouldn't be too crowded despite it being Mother's Day(5/14/17) and we did decide to go out last minute. We were seated immediately even though we arrived about 30 minutes before our reservations. Our waiter started out doing a great job, then his attentiveness just faded after every course. Our appetizers game out one at a time, which was annoying because we kept having to move plates, drinks, etc. to make room. When the main courses arrive the stir-fry came out with no rice...and I would have expected the rice to come out first. My mother and cousin had to wait about 10 minutes before the rice was brought to them. At this point the stir fry was no longer sizzling hot. I asked the food runner for some teriyaki and spicy mayo sauce, she informed me they only had eel sauce and I said that would work. She never came back with the eel sauce. I asked our actual server for the eel sauce and I never received it. I didn't bother asking again. Our server seemed busy but during our dinner 2 of his tables left, so I didn't understand why his attentiveness didn't pick back up after. The food is AMAZING here and that it was saved dinner from being a horrible experience. The drinks aren't the strongest, but we were also a table full of drinkers so our opinion is a little bias in that regard. I will definitely go back because like I said, the food is amazing. Ok so I'm new to sushi but I've finally tried it and I'm obsessed so on my visit to Mali I tried theirs and apparently I was spoiled by my favorite spot and I just couldn't get that taste I was looking for that night at Mali. I spent a small fortune and was never really excited. They didn't appear to work well with groups either. Always fun to come back to this neighborhood Thai restaurant. Three levels, the lower is more quite and intimate, the middle has the sushi bar, and the upper level, more trendy, loud, and with a full bar. We started with soup, sweet and sour chicken, and the coconut soup with shrimp. Both excellent, but surprisingly tiny. Oh well, it's not expensive, buy another one. We both had curry dishes. The Masaman chicken was great, lots of chicken, with a little bite to it. The salmon basil curry was also good, but way too spicy. We'll be back! read more

This food is consistently great. I consider ordering from here once a week. The curries are great. The noodle dishes are great, and the sushi is fantastic. Our go-to order is the massaman curry with chicken and pad kee mao with shrimp, but last week we got the Duck curry and I think I might stick with that for a while. It was awesome. The cocktails are good and so is the calamari. We love to go sit on the outdoor patio. Thai food is my favorite and this is my favorite place in town to get it. I have been coming here for "Years" and the service and the food have been spot on. Here now for Mother's Day and found they have expanded quite a bit. The place is spacious and very very nice but the service is "suffering." Having to constantly make eye contact with our server because he can be MIA. We ordered several appetizers along with some sushi and he forgot about the sushi. I reminded him and he said he lost the sheet so I had yo fill it out again. Will seek new Thai places in the area as Mali Thai may have gotten too big for their britches. Sad...Unhappy patron. Oh yeah. An hour and a half later and we're still waiting on our entrees (party of 4). PS. As a family we decided to pay for appetizers and drinks then leave. Expressed this to management and (I believe) the owner insisted on us not paying. Because of this I will increase the stars from 3 to 4 and give this another chance. The food really is delicious. This became one of my favorite Thai restaurants!! The location is pretty cool because I live in Dunwoody so to go to little places in Atlanta for dinner is pretty exciting. I love spice so the spice rating here is from 1-6, and being the Indian that I am I went for level 6 and boy did I regret it. I went there with my fiancé and mind you he said to get spice level 5, poor guy he was dying in his seat while eating!! I never felt so bad... usually in Thai restaurants they warn you because of the spice but I don't know, they must've had a lot of faith in us because that was the spiciest food I'd ever have. We had a really great time at this restaurant has a group of four. The sushi and the Thai noodles were both really good, and several people enjoyed the soup. I tried to signature cocktail that evening, which happened to be a pear tree martini. It was absolutely divine, and I ended up having two! I highly recommend going here, specially if you have a group of people that really appreciates the Asian cuisine. They have an adequate parking lot in the back where you can find space most of the time, but they do keep pretty busy between the restaurants that share that parking lot. However, should you be so lucky there is also street parking in the parking lot across the street which you can pay to park in. This is one of those restaurants that has a great quality and price! Really wanted to like this place but our experience fell way short. We ordered delivery and the chicken satay was the best thing we got. The red curry was barely edible and the basil chicken wasn't the typical Thai basil chicken but instead was more like chicken poached in a basil broth. Horrible service and average food. Ordered take out, they messed up the order. When I called back the next day they first said the order didn't exist (!!!). Thankfully I had the receipt and order number. 15 minutes later after "looking up" the order number their "chef" refused to acknowledge the screw up and even suggested that the issue was made up. I offered to take the uneaten food back but who wants to spend an hour on the road after being treated this way. Super unprofessional. Mali is reasonably priced and delicious, and that's all it takes to win me over. A lot of Thai restaurants in the area are over-priced, but I was pleasantly surprised by Mali's lunch portions and prices. I ordered the chicken with cashew nuts, and it was amazing! Plenty of food and lots of flavor! I used to work at a relatively authentic Thai restaurant in metro-Atlanta, and the food at Mali is even better than what I'm used to (don't tell my old boss). I've never had chicken with cashew nuts before, so it's difficult to accurately compare the food to the other Thai restaurants I've visited, so I'll definitely return to try one of their soups, curries, or noodles. For an Atlanta restaurant, it was really easy to find parking. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant as well as plenty of nearby street parking. This is the BEST Thai food in Atlanta. I'm a big fan of Thai food and I've tried so many places from inexpensive Thai food like Thai of Norcross to fine dining thai food like Nan, and I would always come back to Mali. Pad Thai is many people's go to Thai entree, and Mali has the best pad Thai I've ever had. It is consistently seasoned perfectly. If you go for lunch it's only approx. $8!! Their vegetarian Massaman curry is also deliciously. I like it better than the non-vegetarian version. The non-vegetarian version is sweeter. Their panang is also very good. You can choose your level of heat. Their calamari and sushi are also really good! But the sushi rolls are on the smaller end. I'm usually not a fan of Thai food, but this place really surprised me! My friend and hair stylist, Roxanne; came back from her marathon at Machu Piccu in Peru and thought this would be a great place to catch up and show both David and I pictures of her travels. I thought I was going to have a hard time finding something to eat, but I was shocked to see that I could not make a decision on what I wanted. I started off with the salad with peanut dressing...I can seriously eat and dip everything in that peanut dressing...it is that good! For my entree, I got the Garlic Chicken with Garlic Rice. It was not only good but very healthy with the side of steamed vegetables. Actually, I thought this was the healthiest Thai place I have ever been to with the big heaping helpings of veggies and lack of sauce! The Garlic Rice was delicious and made me think of a rice dish my father use to make. Overall, I loved it and would come back here again. I didn't feel like I overate and the service was very good and attentive. David and Roxanne ordered sushi and a tried something that was mainly all fish and no rice and it was yummy. Great for dine in or carry out. The Moo Shu, veggie Massaman, and green curry shrimp are favorites. The two pepper rating on the green curry shrimp is spicy enough that you can feel it, but nothing that will give you the rumbles. Apparently a lot of people think this is one of the best Thai places in Atlanta. I think it's just okay but then again, I haven't found any Thai food in town I'd say I can say I really enjoyed. I ordered Pad Khee Mao aka Drunken Noodles. They used thin flat rice noodles rather than the standard large ones and so didn't absorb the flavors so well. While they were kind enough to make it without oyster sauce for me, they didn't do anything to compensate on flavor and so the dish was kind of lacking. It took 25 minutes for our order to be taken and food arrived after 15 minutes. read more

I just ate here for the first time and I thought it was very good. It was quite chilly outside and I received a very warm welcome upon entering. The staff was inviting and friendly and the interior was warm and cozy. I was meeting someone and had to wait for them but was promptly offered the wine list so I could select something while I waited. The wine list was a bit limited but I certainly was able to find something I enjoyed. We were seated at a window table with a nice sidewalk view and this was a very nice spot (recommended). We had two appetizers: Mali's Pockets (Fried Dumplings) and Yin and Yang (wontons stuffed with ricotta cheese). Both are fried and I generally try to limit myself on fried foods but they were good - not too heavy and pretty tasty. For my entree, I chose the panang chicken. It was very flavorful and had a nice spicy kick, especially if you eat the hot peppers in the dish. I tasted my dining partner's masaman shrimp and it was very good, too. It had cashews and nice big chunks of avocado. I do tend to be a fan of curries so both of these were great choices for me. For dessert, we had two different Italian truffle ice creams - bacio and zabaglione. These were good but big - each gets cut into quarters and served with whipped cream and a cherry. Next time, I would order one to share. The ice cream inside was good and they were nice desserts even if I was a little surprised to find Italian tartufo-style desserts at a Thai/sushi restaurant. The food was good, the setting was very pleasant, and the staff was efficient and friendly. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I look forward to going here again. read more

While the Thai scene in Atlanta leaves much to be desired, Mali is certainly an exception. My friend and I tried the Pad Thai with chicken, which deserves 4.5/5 stars. The sauce was a little too sweet for me, but he still thoroughly enjoyed it. The portion size is large for the price, and the egg and chicken were generous. We also tried the Pad Kee Mao with chicken, and we rated it 3.5/5 stars. While the portion size was again, generous, the flavor was flat, and the basil wasn't quite prominent enough for us. They also used thin rice noodles instead of fat ones. All in all, a good, but not great, dish. By far, the best dish was the Red Curry with tofu (6/5!). I ordered it extra spicy, and it delivered! The dish struck an exceptional balance between the sweetness from the coconut milk, spice from the peppers, and savoriness from the vegetables/tofu. The basil is very strong, too, which we both really appreciated. If you order one thing from here, definitely get this! We'll certainly order from here again! read more

WHOA. Mali blew me away, y'all. I have been driving by this place for years wondering if it was good. The exterior of the restaurant is nothing special, so I never stopped until recently. It just goes to show: don't judge a restaurant by their curb appeal. The food was awesome. I'm a huge sucker for Thai food, and this may be the best I've had in Atlanta. I had the green curry with grilled salmon and it was rich, spicy, succulent, and flavorful. The veggies were all perfectly cooked. The dish looked elegant. I went with my mom and she had the Pik King pork, which was also really delicious. I appreciate that their food was ACTUALLY spicy when they said it would be. The service was a little poky, but dude, I didn't even care once I started enjoying the food. The interior was nicely decorated, and they have a cool little patio too. My poor boyfriend. I don't give him enough credit. He suggested Mali for dinner this week, and after giving him my usual hard time, I finally agreed...and it was AWESOME. I decided to go all out and order something from their menu, sushi, and dessert. I got the golden vegetables at our waitress' recommendation, which were served beautifully and had a wicked yellow curry sauce. Definitely asked for more rice so I could soak up the rest of that goodness. I got the Hawaiian roll (shrimp tempura and pineapple) while boyfriend got a roll with snow crab and a spicy tuna roll, which I may have taken a piece of while he was in the bathroom. Heavenly. The end-all, be-all? The mango sticky rice. Served with half of a mango and the rice is covered in a sweet coconut sauce. I never would have put them together, but now it's all I can think of. The staff was friendly and informed, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Even as we left at 8:45, there were people still trickling in. OMG! Honestly where have I been this entire time this place is off the chain! We came in on a Monday night and the place was kinna crowded. We sat downstairs and out server Matt was probably my favorite part of dinner. We told him it was our first time here and he walked us thru the entire menu. We started off with some chicken satay and this sear beef with cabbage. For dinner matt recommended the Massaman chicken, basil shrimp. Everything was season to perfection. Last but not least we had Fried banana for dessert the entire plate look so beautiful with the orchid flower I felt so bad for eating it.
