I generally take any kind of "modern", "fusion" Japanese with a huge grain of shio--but Manhatto won me over with most of its dishes. - Sweet Corn Ribs: Love that this is becoming more common in the NYC food scene because who doesn't love bite-sized pieces of sweet corn on the cob tossed in spicy garlic seasoning? - Trio Pearl Crudo: A refreshing concoction of Hokkaido scallop, Hokkaido uni and salmon roe with yuzu mignonette sauce. Perfect for these blistering summer days. - Yuzu Creamy Salad: Unless you reeeeally need the fiber, I'd skip this very basic caesar salad. It's not bad, just not worth the stomach space when there are so many other things to try. - Toridori Roll: If you skew more traditional like me, opt for this maki made with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, cucumber, and jalapeño. As basic as a millennial who loves food and travel. - Hell's Kitchen Roll: If you skew more creative--or just plain don't eat seafood--you might prefer this maki of sweet potato tempura, pickled radish, shiitake, white seaweed, chive, and Japanese curry mayo. It wasn't for me, but there's a lid for every pot, I hear. - Uni Mentai Pasta: As creamy and carby as any mentaiko pasta--just too small in portion to be a real entree. But that's the Manhattan tax, for you. - Wagyu Shoyu Ramen: Came with a large, thinly sliced cut of A5 wagyu beef and ramen noodles in a clear truffle shoyu broth. Not bad, but not one I'd order again unless you really want some rare Wagyu. - Salmon Ikura Don: Generously loaded and perfectly made. For libations, I tried the Homemade Yuzu Soda. Skip it, unless you like your yuzu to taste like candy. No idea why it was so sweet, but there was no trace of yuzu flavor in it at all. Their homemade soda machine must've been broken. Honestly, the biggest fault I had with Manhatto was that apps were priced like entrees, and entrees were portioned like apps (but not priced like them). But that's a problem endemic to most of Manhattan's restaurants these days.

very boring tbh! the menu items all looked like they would be super unique and have really delicious flavor combinations, but i found that all the dishes were pretty standard, and at a price point that was not justifiable. everything felt like we could have made it at home easily. the service was good though, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and very new! corn ribs: really good tbh, sweet and easy to eat, but nothing super unique yakisoba: very soy sauce heavy, no unique or delicate flavors outside of saltiness yuzu fish salad: fish was relatively fresh, and generous thick cuts. otherwise, the dressing was not too special, a bit too sour even, could use a bit more sweetness. the cranberries were so random and i think could be replaced with a different element. overall, nothing was bad per say, but nothing was that good either.

We stumbled upon this by chance and ended up having a really fun meal. We tried the more western fusion style comfort food plates and quite enjoyed it.

Sweet Potato Mortadella- Roasted sweet potato, mortadella, sesame, micro greens, and a honey-glaze sauce. $14. Unique/pretty tasty

Recommendations- Uni Mentai Pasta, Kara-age This is a very unique Japanese spot within Hell's Kitchen that I went to with a small group a good while ago. I would characterize this place specifically as an izakaya with some interesting yōshoku/Western-style Japanese options. The staff was friendly, and the inside was relatively quiet. We went there before they had a liquor license, but they have since added a nice selection of wines, sakes, shochu, and the like. First to arrive of the appetizers was one of the more interesting dishes of the night, a Japanese-Italian fusion called Sweet Potato Mortadella for $14, with roasted sweet potato, mortadella, sesame, micro greens, and a honey-glaze sauce. The mix of sweetness and saltiness from the various elements was unique, though it was a bit hard to combine everything. This was a bit odd, but fun. A more standard appetizer was the $13 Kara-age, or Japanese-style fried chicken with spicy mayo. I have had this dish from plenty of places, and this was a good rendition. The breading wasn't too thick, and the chicken was very moist. The sauce wasn't too spicy, but it worked. I also liked this. The favorite of the main dishes was the Uni Mentai Pasta for $29, with uni, snow crab, salmon roe, and spaghetti in a creamy cod roe sauce. This was their more seafood-focused version of a common wafu pasta dish, and it was different but tasty. The snow crab was plentiful, and the salmon roe added a pop of saltiness. The mentaiko flavor was a bit less spicy than usual, which I usually don't like, but in this case, it worked as you could taste the various seafood elements more easily. This was very tasty and a good spin. There was also the tasty $49 Ribeye Fried Rice, with USDA prime ribeye, miso compound butter, marinated egg yolk, and fried rice. The fried rice was very tasty with plenty of umami, and this was especially the case with the egg yolk added to it. The ribeye was plentiful and flavorful, but it wasn't the most tender, reminding me more of skirt steak due to the slight chew. Overall, the dish worked, but would have been better if the ribeye had been sliced/cooked better. Another dish was the Kamo Miso Pasta for $30, with seared duck breast, Parmigiano Reggiano, and spaghetti with white miso butter sauce. The duck was cooked a bit better than the steak, and I liked the mix of fat and skin. There was a vague miso flavor, with the fried rice having more of it. The dish felt a bit too buttery and rich overall, so I slightly preferred the other pasta dish as it felt a bit more balanced, but it was still good enough. Last was a standard $25 Salmon Ikura Don. There were seven large pieces of salmon, a pretty good amount of salmon roe below, and some other vegetables, including broccoli and some purple seaweed. It was worth the price due to the fish quality, but I would go to other places instead for sushi or sashimi. This was a pretty good and unique izakaya. There were a couple of interesting ideas, but I wish some dishes (ribeye, duck) had been executed better.

Visiting family in New York. Stopped in for dinner last night. Had a wonderful and delicious meal. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. We were seated quickly and given a carafe of water. The place was slowly filling up with patrons. The restaurant is inviting and welcoming. It was decorated with cool light fixtures and lovely Japanese tapestries. We started with truffle oil edamame, Unagi Croissant, and corn ribs. The truffle edamame was very warm and flavorful. The corn ribs were seasoned to perfection and the parmesan cheese heightened the flavors. The croissant was very good with all the balanced flavors of eel, cream cheese, cucumber, and teriyaki sauce. For dinner we ordered the Hamburg Omu Supreme. Good curry gravy with a hamburger steak like patty with an egg on top of a bed of rice. The Brisket Yakisoba was the best entree we ordered. All the ingredients married together made the dish wonderful. We shared all of our food. All of our food was delish! If ever in New York, come try out this newish gem of a restaurant.

Snagged a last min resy for 9 people on a Friday night! It's a cute ambiance and the food was just okay in my opinion. The big highlight for me was the uni mentai pasta. I would def come back solely for the pasta. It's just the right amount of creamy and the pasta was cooked perfectly.

Underrated spot!! I looved the mentaiko pasta & the steam was well done as well. We also had a good side salad! It's a semi casual spot half the room is good for groups and the other half to smaller groups or dates

My girls took me to a Japanese-Italian spot near Times Square for Father's Day. The operator is actually from Thailand--what a fun twist! The scallops with lemon, scallion, and ginger were incredibly refreshing. The beef tongue was tender and well-balanced with wasabi. The corn rib & steak fried rice was just okay, but the sea urchin pasta was excellent. Overall, the flavors were great, though portions were a bit small.

Had a nice dinner at Manhatto on a busy Friday evening. Started with the Takoyaki and the Yuzu Caesar Salad - both solid. For entrees we had the Uni Mentai Pasta (very creamy), Salmon Ikura Don (good), Ribeye Fried Rice (meat was a little overcooked but good flavor) Friendly staff, lively atmosphere.

uni mentai pasta ($29) - THE BEST DISH ever and so so worth it - they really dont skimp out on the seafood because do you see how it's literally loaded with salmon roe, crab, and slabs of fresh uni - every bite was buttery smooth with pops of freshness from the roe... love the umami swirl in my mouth - noodle texture was perfect too; bouncy chewy and not too soggy ribeye fried rice ($49) - the fried rice itself was such a banger it reminded me of the din tai fung ones... - the rice was nicely separated from one another, not too oily, had a perfect chew, and well seasoned - the steak itself was a bit underwhelming however; it was kind of touGH and not that juicy... roommate said i make better steak at home and it'd be only $15 brehh i agree - overall... i like it but it is not worth $49 at all especially given how the steak execution wasnt satisfactory - i liked the fried rice more than the steak miso butter roll ($28) - lots and lots of stuff in here! Even though you can't really tell - this is quite a steep price for small sushi rolls but it's probably because of the crab which they also did put a good amount - flavor and texture weren't memorable; didn't really taste the miso and butter as advertised - overall good but tastes pretty ordinary for this price rating: 3.8/5 - mixed feeling about this place because some dishes are SO DIVINE while some really need improvements - while the ingredients were fresh, i feel like the restaurant didnt use them to their max potential in terms of flavor, hence resulting in expensive dishes that taste ordinary - great spot for date nights though! Feels like an elevated and classy experience BUT it's very much a casual friendly vibes - quick and standard service IG: @nom.noms.only

Very spacious place. My FAVORITES here were: - uni mentai pasta - this was very flavorful and creamy) - kamo miso pasta (duck with miso pasta) the duck was on point and I could really taste black pepper in the pasta. reminded me a bit of cacio e pepe - geso karage (fried squid appetizer) paired well with the spicy mayo - barley milk tea was a great drink. It was a little on the sweet side (this was free with a google review). OTHER ITEMS I TRIED: - Rib eye fried rice was soso. The rib eye was slightly burnt on the edges for medium rare and not very flavorful so you can prob skip on that one. - Corn Ribs were like the elote mexican corn on the cob. decent appetizer - Tomato Burrata - I love burrata but dish wasn't that special for me although presentation wise it was pretty. There was balsamic vinaigrette drizzled on the burrata and you can spread it on the toast with the different fruits or tomato. - Salmon Ikura Don - typical salmon sashimi with some ikura on top of vinegary rice. Nothing special as well since I just had some salmon sashimi from hashimart the day before and it was like the same. - Honey Toast with Matcha Ice cream - we got 1 to share between 4 people and it was a good dessert. I really liked the matcha ice cream here. - Miso Butter Roll (crab meat , puffed rice, red onion, asparagus, fried shallot, miso butter sauce) roll had a good amount of crab meat in each roll. Overall great place to eat with friends. Well decorated. Waiters occasionally came to change plates and add water to our cups which was nice.

Japanese Flavors With A Modern Twist! From the unique presentations to the creative flavor combinations, every dish felt thoughtfully crafted and beautifully executed. From the Wagyu Toast and Trio Pearl Crudo to the Sweet Potato Mortadella, Ribeye Fried Rice, Uni Mentai Pasta, fresh Sushi, and the Genmaicha Barley Milk Tea topped with crispy rice, there wasn't a single miss--plus the Honey Toast was the perfect sweet finish. What makes this spot stand out is its unique approach to Japanese dining--blending traditional flavors with modern influences while turning each plate into a work of art. Easily one of my favorite dining experiences this year. Trust me, this is one NYC spot you'll be glad you checked out. Follow me @foodie.elite on IG, Tiktok and Redbook for more great finds!

Some classic Japanese dishes and some with a unique twist. The uni mentai pasta was so good and creamy. The chicken katsu curry and hamburger omurice had a delicious curry sauce and great meat. The corn ribs had a delightful seasoning that complemented the corn taste well. The sweet potato mortadella was an interesting dish--not sure if it went well together, but the sweet potato and mortadella each on their own were very good. The chicken karaage was crispy and tender. The honey toast (with matcha ice cream) was also amazing! No disappointments basically. The inside is beautifully decorated. I should have made a reservation, but they were able to squeeze in my walk in group of 4 at 6:30 PM for an hour, which I appreciated. Super excited to have this place open up in Hell's Kitchen and would love to come back

To drink, I had a Hot Organic Super Matcha Tea for 4.95. It was alright tea, and I wish teas were included in the price point, as otherwise, this place feels pretty traditional. In terms of food, I only ordered from the seasonal menu, so I'm not sure how the rest of the dishes are, but from what I had, I would go back for a light traditional meal. My appetizer was the Dashimaki Tamago/だし巻まき卵たま, or sweet savory omelet with daikon for $6.98. This came with three pieces along with a little dollop of grated radish. The pieces had a light sweetness to them along with a bit of savoriness. They were juicy and a bit bouncy while maintaining some softness. This was standard and good. My main dish was the $19.98 Beef Tan Tan Udon, or ground sirloin beef, spicy broth, baby bok choy, kikurage mushroom, scallions, and sesame seeds. While I have preferred udon from spots like Raku, the udon had a mild chew to it, and they were still good. The broth had a mix of sweetness and spiciness with a nice depth of flavor. The vegetables inside tasted fresh, and the meat added some richness. This was good as well. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go here, but the food was good. If you're in the area and looking for no frills Japanese dining in a more comfortable atmosphere at pretty decent Midtown East prices, I would recommend this place.

We walked into a casual, no-frills space that felt similar to a classic tonkatsu restaurant in Japan, with a straightforward layout and a menu that stays focused on different cuts of pork, chicken katsu, fried seafood, and Japanese curry. The dining room had a practical, unpretentious energy with a steady flow of customers coming in for a comforting meal, and the open kitchen gave us a view of the frying process that added to the anticipation. The tonkatsu is the clear standout. We ordered a few options and found the breading light, crisp, and fried without feeling heavy or greasy, while the meat stayed tender and juicy inside. The Berkshire pork was a popular choice, with a richer flavor and extra tenderness compared to a standard pork cutlet, and the texture of the breading held up well against the sauce. Every meal came as a teishoku set with rice, miso soup, shredded cabbage, and pickles, making it feel like a complete and satisfying meal. The cabbage provided a refreshing contrast to the fried food, and the house tonkatsu sauce paired well with the crispy coating without overpowering the pork. The katsu curry was another excellent option, with the rich Japanese curry adding another layer of flavor while still letting the crisp texture of the cutlet stand out. Fried shrimp, oysters when in season, and other appetizers like takoyaki and agedashi tofu rounded out the menu, though the pork katsu remained the main reason to visit. The restaurant is consistently busy during lunch and dinner, so it was common to wait for a table during peak hours. Service was efficient once we were seated, and the food came out fairly quickly despite the crowds. Portion sizes were generous, making the prices feel reasonable considering the quality and amount of food. The staff moved through the room with a practiced rhythm, and the pacing of the meal kept the experience smooth without feeling rushed. Overall, Katsu-Hama is one of the strongest tonkatsu restaurants in New York City. The consistently crispy cutlets, quality ingredients, and traditional Japanese set meals make it an easy recommendation for anyone looking for authentic tonkatsu without unnecessary extras.

For appetizer, We went adventurous and got the monkfish liver salad - first thought the portion is very small. But to my shock, the sauce is so delicious-- strong, vinegar-y, and spicy - my favorite flavors. Monkfish liver is fishy but very good. The Short Rib Massaman is the star dish; a coconut curry with a big chunky piece of meat served with flaky roti bread. It was really flavorful and tender. The Salmon Clay Pot had nice fragrant garlic rice and a fresh salmon filet. However, the salmon rice tasted more Japanese than Thai. To end the meal, we got their delicious seasonal Mango Sticky Rice. The mangos were ripe and the rice was nice and chewy.
