Omg!!! First off my boyfriend and I love this restaurant so much! We ALWAYS order the beef rib plate (Sam's plate) which comes with a side of yummy macaroni salad and their fluffy white rice. The beef ribs are melt in your mouth tender and super flavorful. My favorite part is when you get the charred pieces of fat which in my opinion is where all the flavor is at; honestly I wish we lived closer to cypress because I'd probably go here all the time lol! We usually stop by when we are staying at the Hamptons hotel about 5-8 mins away from here. I love how they also have an option to order through DoorDash, when we're not feeling like going there physically we get it delivered to our hotel and the quality is still top notch, another option is to just order through DoorDash and choose pick up if you don't want to pay the extra fee's that way you can order ahead of time and your food will be ready when you arrive. Staff is always friendly and very accommodating. If you're in the area give this place a try, I promise you won't regret it! 10/10 recommend. read more

The Hawaiian bbq here is bomb AF. I've had a lot of Hawaiian food before in San Diego but the bbq here is wayyyyy better than anything we have there. The kalbi is so tender and cooked perfectly. The marination on the Kalbi ribs is perfect. The beef tips are really soft and good cuts of meat. And the beef ribs are really good as well. The portions are huge and enough for 2 ppl to share, we had enough leftovers for dinner. The prices are really good $12 for a plate with 2 scoops of rice and Mac salad. The Mac salad is okay it tasted like potato salad with some macaroni noodles added in it. Besides that everything was spot on! There is a good amount of seating and they are open til 9pm daily. Ordered a #5 plate and a dole whip. The good: Portions are massive. Lots and lots of food for the money kinda. Recent price hikes are atrocious. The bad: Meat was super over cooked. I have been a frequent customer at this location an they constantly do not honor their hours of operation. They say on Yelp they close at 9 pm , they say on their front door they close at 9pm , on their website 9 pm . Then why is this my 5th time I arrive at 8:45 an try to order they say we are closed . Simply post that do not lead customer on with false times an be accurate On the hour of operation that you set . If you close the kitchen at 8:30 then say you close at 8:30 not 9 . Having a good product is not enough in today's market. Since I can't give half stars I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say 4 stars even though I'd like to rate it only 3.5 stars. +2 stars for food --just for the beef ribs and chicken +1 for the Dole Whip pint, omg so good! + 1/2 star for the Instagram ads that got me in the door-- even though what I saw was for their Vegas location. Ambiance was ok too- They had good product photos hanging up. Several 4 person tables if you wanted to eat there. So why the missing 1.5 stars?? To start when I walked in, the older lady looked annoyed that she had to come and take my order. So, I tried to be cheerful and tell her it was my first time because I saw their instagram posts/ads for their Vegas lol and was excited they had a location here near me. I don't exactly know how she felt about that, but I swear she rolled her eyes at me. She did say the beef rib plate was most popular, and I said I also wanted to try the kalbi and chicken. So she suggested the #6 and to add on a beef rib. So I got the #6 (chicken and kalbi) and 2 beef ribs. I got the Mac salad and rice (no green salad). And then a pint of Dole whip. When I realized the total ($35) I let her know I would pay the dole whip separate with cash. I could hear her let a small sigh escape from her nose. I apologized and explained that all my cards finally got charged because it was after the holiday and people charged their payments. She nodded and agreed understandably (thankfully). She said she would call me when it was ready.. I was the only one there, lol. She called me up and I said thank you and left. She gave me a very small smile and said thank you. So yeah, her initial reaction to me wasn't that great, but in reading other reviews here, I will be trying the Fullerton location next to see how their good compares. & Compared to other reviews, the beef ribs I got had a very good amount of meat. (For the people who complained about the fat-- that makes the flavor delicious!) Chicken was good and juicy (probably thigh meat); only a couple pieces seemed a tad on the dry side- normal for bbq chicken. Nothing the teriyaki sauce couldn't fix. Mac salad was just ok; I had one piece of potato in the entire scoop. Wouldn't have minded more pieces.. Rice seemed like it was a little mushy inside with a hard exterior??. But the teriyaki sauce on it was great. Kalbi was flavorful but a little bit overdone- just wish it was a little less chewy in places. Dole whip pint survived very well on my 30min drive home inside my cooler bag. Popped it in the freezer and had a couple spoonfuls after I ate. Refreshing and true to taste! $9 was a bit steep though. But maybe that's what they have to charge for the licensing/being able to serve it in their own Matiki branded cute pint containers. read more

I was in the area and this place popped up on Yelp. They give very generous portions here and it's a very filling meal. I love Hawaiian bbq and this place hit the spot for me. I'm not a huge fan of their Mac salad but their #1 plate with the beef ribs was delicious and tender. The meat came off the bone very easily and it was delicious. I heard good things about this place several times and I finally tried it for the first time yesterday I am not a beef rib gal (baby back ribs over beef ribs, always), BUT the beef ribs here are delish! So tender and flavorful. I would definitely come here for the beef ribs and mac salad. The rice however, was really mushy- I literally could not eat it. This place is bomb dot com. The staff here aren't necessarily the warmest, but they're authentic as heck and run a tight ship. Sam's plate, the one with the beef ribs is absolutely delicious and is a very large portion for the price. One of my favorite things I ate all year and I'm quite the meat foodie. If you love meats you gotta try this place out. I dream every day about coming back to order it again and try some of the other meats. We were excited to visit here because of the beef ribs! So of course we had to get an order of that and we got a chicken and beef plate to go along with that. It's definitely a low key place, no frills, and it seemed like a lot of people come in for food to go. The beef ribs definitely lived up to the hype. They are not super meaty and some might say they have a lot of fat, but boy, those ribs are tasty! The chicken was so-so, several of the pieces were very overcooked, dry and not even chewy, but hard. Beef was okay but I've definitely had better and more tender kalbi. I wasn't crazy about the mac salad either with the potatoes mixed in. If I was grading this place on just the ribs, I'd give it a 5, if it was just for the chicken, I'd give it a two. Beef would be a three. My advice: just stick to the ribs! read more

I 1st had Matiki many years ago at a friend's suggestion when someone ordered food for us and brought it. My friends highly suggested I get the beef ribs but since I've NEVER before had a beef rib I enjoyed I opted for the regular beef plate. Out of the kindness of their heart they let me taste one of their beef ribs and I instantly regretted my order. The Sam's Plate has been my go-to order every time I've visited since. Wow! I cannot begin to explain my level of disappointment. I have heard so many good things about this spot and was excited to finally give it a try. Went there tonight to pick up my online order. They were apparently getting ready to close (even though it was way earlier than their closing time posted) and I was the last customer to pick up. Here we go; the food was OLD, dried up and stale. They basically gave me whatever scraps they had left of the chicken, it was CRUNCHY because of how old it was. I was given cold, old food! My dog wouldn't even want to eat the "chicken" they gave me. I'm so disappointed, they are down the street from me and was hoping it could be my New "go-to" place. WRONG!
