Best Mexican food I have ever had. Everything Fresh and expertly prepared. When I go in the morning, I see lots of fresh fruit, veggies, and meat being delivered each day and the friendly family that runs the place are hardworking and efficient. Everything is always clean and fresh and the fruit juice is to die for! We like to go in the morning for Super burritos and then to the beach. I have never had burritos that good, and I am an old woman and have had more than my share of them...lol. I love the fish filet. Always fresh, cooked to order and to perfection, and the portions are generous. In fact, all portions are generous. The menu is amazing and I'm sure that if your favorite isn't there, they will make it for you anyway. Hard to find street parking, so I could imagine it can sometimes be difficult to get though. But you'll be glad you did. Definitely not as much buzz as your El Farolitos, but give this place a chance. Has good Mexican atmosphere and like most burrito places, they make it right in front you. Cashier was quick and friendly. Got the Pozole, super lengua burrito, and carne asada burrito mojado. All to go. Fast and easy pick up. Pozole - Legit. Had my first try of pozole in Mexico, and it was damned good. This was just as I remember it. I think it is only weekend option here, so look out for it then. The broth is flavorful and savory. Doesn't leave a greasy feeling in your mouth. Meat is tender and crumbles in the mouth. They give you tostadas, but I didn't use em. Super Burrito Lengua - The meat to toppings ratio was just right. As with most "super," you get the sour cream and guacamole. It was my first time trying lengua. Succulent, tender... but lacks a little flavor. Much better when added hot sauce. Mojado - Did not dig the sauce. Tastes almost like an italian tomato sauce. A little bit counterintuitive for this dish. Carne asada however was great! I'm going to come back. Decided to come here on a Sunday night to get some takeout. I was a little tired of the usual places I go to and so I decided to venture off to the Excelsior. It was one of the best decisions I made that day. I got two super burritos, (al pastor, carne asada), order of ceviche and two churros (regular and caramel filled). The meat is super juicy and tasty, the rice and beans inside the burrito was flavorful. Overall, it was a very solid burrito. The burrito was a fair size and I wasn't overly stuffed. The ceviche was DELICIOUS. It was acidic, tangy, and a very nice spicy kick to it. I preferred the regular churro as opposed to the caramel filled one because the latter was a little too sweet. The churros remained crispy throughout the car ride which was very impressive. The service wasn't the fastest even though it didn't look too busy (might of been a bunch of phone orders) . I come here usually on a weekday morning when there's not many customers and the lady clerk is soooo nice, courteous, and gets orders right!! I asked for lots of lettuce on my burrito and not only did I get it fast within 10 minutes but they got the custom order of lettuce right!! Their food is sooooo good, so saucy, tasty, not dry like a lot of other burritos in the city - here, the burrito is hot, saucy and eats like a meal and is big!!! I was surprised too with the chips- I would have thought they would just toss some old cold yucky chips to the order but no,the chips looked pretty fresh and heated and tasted fresh, warm, crunchy. I wondered where the sauce for the chips were and was told you have to go to the area with the sauces (to the right of the clerk's counter) to choose from the various salsa and/or guacamole sauce(s) you want to accompany your chips. I couldn't tell what each one tasted like just by looking at them so I got 3 tiny empty sauce bowls and filled them up with a different sauce. Texture and heat spiciness were different for each. And finally, their aqua frescas are fresh, cool, not too sweet, refreshing with a selection of cantaloupe, tamarind, horchata, strawberry) . What's also great is they ACCEPT CC or debit cards!!! How refreshing!! (Hello la corneta taqueria, taqueria cancun, el gran taco loco, etc!!! --- no one's going to DRAIN their wallets of $15 or more of cash all the time just to get a drink and a burrito!!!) The restaurant is clean and pretty spacious with 4 or so medium tables(each table fitting 4 people) on one side and 3 small tables(if you're by yourself) on the other side. I am perplexed at all the high reviews of this place. The prices are typical of San Francisco and the burrito I had was simply average. Again there was nothing wrong with the food or service it just didn't strike me as anything out of the ordinary. Came here tonight and ordered two carne asada tacos and one flour quesadilla. Tacos were okay, they were filled with meat which was nice for the price but they were not flavorful. Maybe because it was Sunday night. The quesadilla was bomb. Filled with a lot of cheese and melted to just right temperature. Holy Carnitas! This place is so good it's on par with Taqueria Cancun and El Farolito. And don't say La Taqueria because that place is second tier. Taste the carnitas and then we can talk - you can't make best burrito claims based on chicken, that's like saying cucumbers are better than pickles. Great Mexican diner. Seems to be a lot of people eating there or getting to go at 4:30 on a Sunday. Tried the shrimp ceviche in a giant cup, birria de res, and a burrito. Situation: Sunday morning. I woke up before my bf and had an insane craving for pozole. I quickly jumped on Yelp to investigate the pozole situation in our area. Mexico Tipico stood out amongst the options. As soon as the bf woke up, I was there to sweet talk him into joining me. As promised there were two kinds of pozole that were only available on the weekend (red and green). I saw a family of 4 with two bowls of each kind of pozole and I awkwardly hovered over them, trying to hide the fact that I was sneaking peaks at their meals so that I could determine which kind to get. Ultimately, I went for the red pozole and the bf went with the chicken mole poblano. Holy cow, they were both insane. The pozole came out piping hot and full of meaty pork chunks (not just lots of pork bones like at other places) and hominy, and the broth had a rich deep flavor. It came with accoutrements of onions, lemon, radishes, cabbage, which I promptly dumped into the bowl. My bf took a picture of me happily slurping away and sent it to his mother. How embarrassing. Anyway, there was so much that I ended up having to take it to go and eat it for dinner! Boyfriend's chicken mole was also delish - chicken was tender, mole was sweet but not too sweet. This is definitely one of the many hole-in-the-wall hidden gems in San Francisco. My friend from out of town wanted to get some Mexican food last night and I was trying to think of a Taqueria that A. I am not sick of, B. doesn't have what I referred to as "fake chips" (El Farolito) but is also good and authentic. It was a toss up between Menudo and Tipico. I know I have been to both, but not recently enough to remember. We walked past Tipico and I felt a little embarrassed to take her in there because it looked super dead and not extremely welcoming and then we walked past Menudo and the woman working inside kind of gave us a stink eye (which might not have been intended- I have resting bitch face too so I don't judge). I hopped on Yelp and saw my girl Cherylynn's rave review of Tipico and the choice was made. My girlfriend ordered a wet burrito with shredded chicken and I ordered the enchiladas. The cashier who takes your order was so friendly and when my girlfriend asked if there were onions in the wet burrito she said yes in the pico and guac. She could see the stressed-out look on my friend's face that completely read "but guac though..."so she said, "would you like us to just put avocado instead of guacamole?" SO NICE. They seriously put at least half an avocado on her burrito. The lady asked me what kind of meat I wanted in my enchiladas so I said "can I have one steak and one grilled chicken" and she said "yes, and what about the other one?" THREE?!?! Wow, talk about generous portions, only $9.95! Everything was a homerun from the enchilada sauce to the guacamole to the rice and beans. I also really liked how they put shredded lettuce, a nice RIPE slice of tomato and a dollop of both crema and guac on the plate. I feel like nowadays you hardly ever find places that do that anymore, everything is extra (i'm looking at you Santa Rosa Taqueria -_-) Great service, real chips, great food, salsa bar, great prices. I love Mexican food. Since I moved away from LA I've always been looking for a taqueria that doesn't serve lettuce in their burritos. This place wouldn't even think about it (thank you, lord!). Ok, so I used to be team farolito...then I realized that their niche was just to slather on gobs and gobs of sour cream into their burritos until you get a soggy mess in your hands. Then i switched over to team cancun just for their wet burrito and melon agua frescas...still have mad respect, but my latest venture put me face to face with an unbalanced, lukewarm burrito, still the size of a newborn, but being mostly composed of rice. I have graduated to Mexico Tipico because the quality of the food is top notch without sacrificing price. I always rate a taqueria by the quality of their burrito and tipico chops their meat options into fine pieces, leaving out the gristle and fat and taking on this amazing charred flavor, which I find lacking in other major contending taquerias. The meat is also typically abundant, and well balanced with the other basic elements like cheese, guac, salsa, rice, etc. It's nice to get a little bit of everything in each bite! But what I love about tipico is the fact that they have an extensive menu of traditional foods. I've tried the dinner plates and they are fantastic! Standouts would be the chicken mole and caldo de res (beef stew type soup), and they supply you with a little container of warmed tortillas to eat with your food. Rice is cooked and stored in plastic bags. When asked why they do that in a joking manner, they said there is nothing wrong with that and "El arroz se cocina de esa manera en todas las taquerias." Chicken in my mole poblano plate was cold since they brought it out from the refrigerator to heat up in one of their pots. I started eating and noticed that the breast was hard in the middle. Well, it was stone cold. I had one of their workers touch the middle of the chicken breast since they didn't believe me. The fellow apologized but instead of offering a reheat or something different he turned around. To be clear, I was not rude, didn't raise my voice, and joked with them to bring levity to the situation. I've eaten here many times before but since the amazing ladies that worked here left a few months ago, their service and cooking has gone down drastically. So, after having a craving for flan, I decided to come here...because the main picture is of chocolate flan! ha. I decided to get a burrito also. I got the pollo asado con queso y crema. No cebolla, no pico, no green stuff. lol. I just wanted chicken, cheese, beans, rice, and sour cream! I generally don't like pollo asado from taquerias because its always fatty but this was perfect!! I loved it! I only ate 1/3 of it so I had enough room for the flan. I got the regular flan. It was great. Nothing more to say about it, really. Just great! If I ever have that craving for flan again, I'll be back. Even if I do have to suffer the 30 minute bus ride on the 14. bleh. lol read more

awesome place. I love this burrito place much more then the places around it - El Manudo, who give me guilt stricken faces as I bypass them to go here. Definitely preferable to being stabbed or spit on in El Farolito. Also - best damn burritos for their pricing, 4.50 for a regular burrito, 6.50 for a super. And they -taste- good, not the beans and rice crap you'd find around 24th or 16th and mission, or the "b*tch you must be kidding" looks you get when you order a regular burrito. Regular burritos are quality, filled with some of the best damn salsa I can find in this ever expanding city and its overpriced crap. Salsa you want to bathe in, salsa you want to put into five little plastic cups and take home with you. Hmn what else. Home-made chips that are decadent. Staff that are pleasant and have shown me they are willing to go that extra mile for me. Keep in mind, this is a sports-oriented taqueria, there are two flat screens and a juke box system. So if you want to sit down to a private table and heat lamps with little candles, probably want to find another venue. if you have common sense and want quality food, come here. Recommendations: - Huevos con Chorizo (an entire plate of amazing) - Mexican glass coke (no corn syrup) - Shrimp Tacos - Regular burrito with Carne Asada - 1.00 side of Guacamole about the size of your fist - home-made chips available if you eat in-house* - Awesome quesadilla. its melted cheese and tortilla and a load of flavor. Disclaimer: I DON'T like Mexican food... usually. I have to admit, I'm a taco bell fan. I'd prefer to eat a bean burrito from Taco Bell then "Authentic Mexican Food." My husband, LOVES Mexican food, and I was feeling nice. So found Mexico Tipico on Yelp and its definately yummy. I ordered a pork burrito, and a quesadilla. My husband ordered his "special" burrito just the way he likes it. And boy did he like it!! I will for sure come back and order more food. Being Mexican and growing up on the Border, I pride myself on knowing good Mexican food and this is good Mexican food. I used to live up the street and ate here all the time (not the best idea for my waist, but a great one for my tummy ) I now live across the city and will take any excuse and sometimes drive here in the middle of the night without one to have a super steak quesadilla and a jamaica (one of the few places in the city that serves it, believe me I've looked) I can say this is some of the best and most authentic Mexican food in the city. Don't go here for the look of the place, go for the food. Your taste buds will thank you. Fun little Mexican restaurant with amazing charm. This spot is just a few blocks down from El Farolito, but it's not short for awesome food and great service. I've ordered the Lengua Avocado burrito and Breakfast burrito. Bring your appetite because these are big and juicy. Some pun intended. With that much meat in your mouth, you'll never leave hungry. Or disappointed. My taste buds were given the salty, greasy treatment necessitated through Mexican food on the Mission. Food comes out quick, and they have fricken breakfast options! I was really disappointed in this place. I chose it as a good spot to meet a friend because the reviews were all so good. My heart sank when I arrived... The lighting and decor were harsh and there was almost no one there. The door was open and it was cold too. But to fill the unwelcoming void, there was a very loud TV blaring some sports channel in a room with a lot of hard surfaces and reverb. Consequently it was hard to communicate; just fine if you want to watch sports while you eat though. As for the food, the burrito we shared was poor to mediocre and the quesadilla was just nasty, too much cheese and not enough flavor. A couple of things in the place's favor; the guy serving was nice and you can get parking right outside. but still not nearly worth the 4.5 stars it was rated at when I discovered this place. read more

The super burrito is cheap in price but packed with meat. They do not skimp on the good stuff. My only complaint is their tortilla chips. They are not made fresh and come out of a bag. I only recently started liking Mexico Tipico when nearby Taqueria Menudo went downhill. I've only tried their burritos and nachos but they aim to please! (For the most part) The pollo guisado is delish! I order it every time. Salsa is good could be spicier but I'm a nut about spice. My only complaint is the cheese sauce on the nachos. It doesn't taste like real cheese. It reminds me of velveeta cheese or some fake cheese product like that The quality of the nachos would be improved if they used real Mexican cheese.
