Our server was awesome, very friendly and attentive. The other staff we encounters were also very pleasant. The whole restaurant is beautiful, I love the rolled towels in the bathroom in lieu of paper towels. On to the drinks, I had no idea they offered bottomless mimosas which is huge for me. My boyfriend got the bloody and it was surprisingly herbal and floral, but in a great way! We started with the shrimp and pesto flatbread which was surprisingly spicy, which I loved! I ordered the salmon burger and was not really blown away but it. It was difficult to eat as the bun to burger ratio was weird, so much bun, such a small patty. The salmon itself was pretty over cooked but I did enjoy it. I'm not quite ready to write it off, but I think I may need to be blown away next time. There will be another time. read more

The food was good, waitstaff average, host & hostess terrible. We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation time (on a Wednesday) and were told there would be a short wait. Of course, no prob. We stood in the entry and watched as 6 couples who arrived after us were seated. After being mostly ignored with eye contact avoidance, incorrectly greeted and then ungreeted, and 20 minutes after our reservation time, we were seated. Next to the server's computer station. And an entrance from Excelsior. The door was repeatedly opened to the very cold wind (outside temp upper 30's). I had to sit with my winter coat on throughout dinner not only due to the opening door but also the cold air coming from the above vent. There are a couple of fire places in the restaurant so I'm sure others were warm. I was not. I had a burger it was pretty good; the side salad with it was very good. My husband had the trout which was fine with sides of brussel sprouts and sweet potato gnocchi which were both great when they came out but cooled quickly under the aforementioned air conditioning to be less than tasty. Since I was freezing we didn't stick around for dessert. :( I would say it was a fluke but this is the second time I've had this type of experience at Mill Valley Kitchen. Fool me once, shame on you. I brought some guest from out of town here for an early dinner on Tuesday night. The place was mostly empty and we got seated right away. Let me start out by saying the ambiance is great, very "Modern California Winery". Bright, white with a huge bar. The food was good but confusing. I ordered a burger and a side of the carrots (because it does not say the burger comes with any sides on the menu) When actually my burger arrived with a big field green salad .... They need to update their menu! We ordered the sweet potatoes then for a starter, which actually arrived at the table as a mash or puree. Thanks for the heads up menu? And also the waitress, she didnt think that a bowl of mashed potatoes was a weird starter for a table? We assumed they were roasted "fry" like slices. when asking the waitress where the miscommunication was she said I was looking at the "carrots" and snarkly remarked they dont have a fryer in the restaurant. I dont give a shit if you dont have a fryer (thanks for the judgement) I'm more confused at what is shown and what is said via the menu Food: Good, but small portions for what you pay. The burger was ok, there was a lot of bun and not a lot of burger, it was a bit dry too. Pizza and Pasta dishes were the hit at our table. The girls all loved what they ordered and portions were more in line with prices. I liked the place at first glance and the atmosphere matches the food. I also like that the food is delicious and rather healthy (calorie info is printed on the menu) But I do feel like they need to remove the stick from their A$$es and do a better job on their menu & describing the food. read more

The service is always superb, the salads are ta die fer, the mocktails are refreshing, and I am in love with the fact that everything is local, seasonal, and healthy. Two big (green) thumbs up for that! My favorite drink is the mocktail that has kombucha, a MUST try for any paleo peeps out there. My fave salad is the seared scallop one with hazelnuts and grapefruit segments... drool. Loved every bit of this place. Friends have been recommending it to us for years and finally we went last night. Just walking in the front door we knew it was special. The warm fireplace, simple elegant decor, and friendly staff put us at ease from the start. We ordered drinks at the bar before being seated for dinner. Loved the cocktails and helpful bartender. Once we were seated at our table, our waiter Austen, was knowledgeable and super friendly. All four of us enjoyed our appetizer, meal and dessert. Fresh, delicious and filling. Apparently people who live in St Louis Park frequent this jewel of a restaurant often, as it's been no secret to them. Can't wait to return and to experience the patio in warmer weather. My friend suggested MVK for brunch the day after a super gluttonous day in MSP (Nighthawk poutine, dinner at Corner Table) since we were both thinking of a slightly less gluttonous brunch. MVK was perfect! I loved seeing the nutritional info on the menu and I was super happy that the food was actually delicious. I had the breakfast burrito, which was soooo good. I added bacon to get some more protein, though I'm not sure it was worth it. The bacon flavor, which was delish when I picked a piece out, got lost in the burrito. I'm not sure it was worth almost doubling the calories in the burrito. I also loved that the burrito came with greens in a vinaigrette. Our server was really friendly and attentive. My friend enjoyed her lox and some sort of juice drink (Red Moon - red grapefruit juice). I wish we had something like this in Chicago! read more

We were excited to try this new restaurant and went a couple of weeks ago. Service was really slow and forgetful - we had to remind about our drinks over and over. Then when the food came out much later, it overlapped salads and entrees. The food was just ok - I want to say that I love the idea of nutritional information on the menu, but I felt like there was a sacrifice in flavor. Everything was very simple and not flavorful - I could have done better at home with some herbs, garlic, etc. Not every flavor comes from fat and salt. I feel like the informational concept could be kept, but the recipes could be made a bit more complex or interesting. Highlight was the dessert shots, those were yummy. Pretty expensive and about a 3 hour dinner. I wouldn't make the trip back, I'd rather try other places or go to good creative standbys like Travail or Alma. read more

Food - I was looking forward to the idea of the menu: light, healthy, local/sustainable ingredients, nutrition facts right on the menu, etc. My friend, EBKB, and I split the hummus ap that comes with warm pita. Delicious! We also shared a side of the kale which was good but it's kale. It's healthy... Then, not wanting to ingest a 400-600 calorie entrees (yep, you can't escape it. It's right on the menu), I opted for the grilled plum salad. It was good - slightly better than ok. It's 200 calories, what did I expect? EBKB had the veggie burger which was mostly made from beets. She let me sample - I thought it was again better than ok. Not overly flavorful and definitely falling apart making it a little challenging to eat. Bevs - They do have a full bar but we opted for a bottle of pinot grigio for $24. They have a few options for under $30. Service - This is going to sound weird but everyone was almost too nice. EBKB and I were both mildly annoyed with how over eager everyone was but hey, at least they were trying to take care of us - just a little too in my face! A plus was the free valet. Atmosphere - I was bummed that the patio was full as were there on a beautiful night so we sat in the bar area. On a Wednesday it was packed. The clientele was definitely older and Edina-esque. The decor kinda reminded me of a D'Amico: white walls, white columns, etc. The dining room area had an ugly green floral carpet which lent an even more geriatric spin on the vibe going on at MVK. Overall I'd say take your Mom there for brunch or lunch. She'll probably love it. I might give it another shot for brunch or dinner (but this time just go for the 600 calorie dish ). I went here tonight for dinner and it was pretty good. I love that the nutrition facts are all listed and they have several vegetarian and gluten free options, which is really nice. I had the veggie burger which was good, but not great. It came with a salad which was really good. My dad had the bison burger which he said was also good, but not great. We also had the tropical and berry smoothies. The tropical had an overpowering banana flavor and seemed like it had flaxseeds in it even though they weren't listed, and the berry was ok, but kinda had an odd aftertaste. I wouldn't get the smoothies again but would try the burger again. The ambiance was really nice, very open and modern looking. The word fresh came to mind when I first walked in. I love my food! This is easily the best place in the Minneapolis area and my absolute favorite spot! Atmosphere, decor, ambiance are just perfect! The staff are all adorable!!! Love love love this place! I've been here on four different occasions. Weekend nights and week day nights. Every time I go it's a great experience! Parking is super easy, so do not feel the pressure to valet. Although it is right in front and just as easy, and free.The hostess's are sooo sweet and nice. They greet you as you enter, and are all super happy. It's refreshing. This place has the BEST champagne cocktail I've found! It's the French 77. HIGHLY recommend it. The food is always so fresh and yummy! I have not found a dish that I have not liked on their menu. The hummus appetizer is what we start with every time!! Scallops are amazing as well as the salads. They have a decent beer selection and some great wines too. The bartender on Sunday nights is exceptional. She remembers her customers and their favorite orders. She is always friendly and cheerful. It is a little loud for my taste, but the food was amazing. These crazy elixirs that they whip up are a perfect substitute for booze or wine if you are in need of a break after a rough night. Their flatbread is an excellent appetizer for two and something great to share. I LOVE that they clearly mark gluten free and vegan options. As I said on their Facebook page, I went to Mill Valley Kitchen for my 30th birthday on June 20th and have been back 3 times since then! I have tried several flat breads, the filet, the scallops, the sea bass and a few different salads and every single dish has been better than that last. Ending every single visit with warm chocolate chip cookies and milk, delicious. The atmosphere is inviting and fun, the decor makes you feel almost like you are in someone's home...but in a good way! The crown molding and white walls/ceilings makes for a really pleasant feel. I highly recommend and can't wait to go back!! I think I'll try to snag a patio seat next time. Cheers! read more

Wow! I'm totally impressed. Beautiful restaurant, attentive service, wildly delicious cocktails, and the food... oh my the food. I'm sorry I didn't take the picture before I attacked my plate, but it was just too amazing not to eat immediately. I ordered the "Grilled Skuna Bay Salmon". Beautiful, buttery, flaky chunk of salmon with "red watercress, peas, tomato, mimosa vinaigrette." The fish was resting on a green cakey-like bed of... something. The server said it was chickpeas. I don't know why that wasn't in the menu, but who cares? It was divine. Dessert was key lime pie in a shot glass. Enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, but not enough to leave you with a stomach ache and regrets on the ride home. The ambiance is spectacular, it smells like a new house when you walk in, but that quickly fades, and you can't believe that this place is where Al's used to stand (and let me tell you, I MISS AL'S!!). I had the sea scallops and substituted the coconut sweet potato for the barley salad in order to make it Gluten Free. Both were delicious. The sweet potato was topped with a bit of cilantro, love! The three scallops were huge and sat on a delicious bed of kale. They list all the calories, fat grams, protein and carbs for each item, and what they tell you won't make you regret what you're putting in your mouth. They have a diverse beer selection that my husband enjoyed and our server was passionate about, and a very cute private wine room for larger dinner parties. Desserts are smaller portion in a shot glass, and just enough to wet your pallet of the sweetness you need after a meal. What a wonderful place! My wife and I came to this restaurant with no expectations and were pleasantly surprised the whole way through. From the elegant and chic decor. The lighting was wonderful and ambiance just right for a weekday dinner for two. We spilt a flatbread entree the fig and blue cheese yet my wife preferred goat cheese there was no issue substituting for it. As a extra touch the sever brought me side of the AmaBlu cheese to try myself. It was a great starter. For our main course my wife opted for bolognese with pappardelle it was just right. We visit this area a few times a year. Mill valley kitchen is our go to spot. Lots of organic choices and the environment is very nice. The salmon was one of the beat meals I have had while dining out. In fact we cancelled other reservations gnat week so we could go back (went for lunch twice and dinner 3 times). The people are friendly, and seem to enjoy making the experience good for their customers. Not sure who the executive chef is, but wow, they know how to bring out the best flavors. This is a well run, excellent Restaraunt. If you enjoy quality food, and grown tired of Restaurants that should be better than they are, go to mill valley. I look forward to returning. I went here for dinner and was really excited about the "health consciousness" idea of Mill Valley. I enjoyed my meal but the portions were rather small and left a bit more to be desired. My girlfriends and I split the pita and hummus (which was yummy!) and for dinner I had the mixed green salad with salmon. This was tasty but it also felt like something I could have easily whipped up at home. The decor of the restaurant was a bit confusing and felt like a hotel lobby. I think they could have done something more related to the idea of healthy living. Overall, I enjoyed my experience but felt the meals were something I could have made a home. Walking into this restaurant below an apartment building, there weren't many expectations. When you enter, the atmosphere is lively, with white table cloths and the kitchen is exposed to the dining area. The decor, as another reviewer said, is very Napa-esque. We were greeted immediately by 2 hostesses and seated at our 8:15PM reservation. Although, the restaurant wasn't filled on a Saturday night. The crowd was mixed - older and younger and our party of 4 was seated in an area around other younger individuals. The server came over with water immediately and we were able to order drinks right away (which might I add were delicious!). The wine selection is good, although the bottle prices are uncharged greatly. The menu has a lot of options with great gluten-free options! Out of the 4 of us, I ordered the pork loin, my partner the fish (with the baby kale salad for appetizer), our friends the chicken and grain-fed filet. Everything was delicious! No complaints from the rest of the table - the flavors were great, but not overwhelming. The server was attentive and checked on us multiple times during our meal. Even though there were a lot of older people, we didn't feel the age-ist attitude that is sometimes prevalent in these types of restaurants. There aren't a lot of restaurants willing to cater to health and flavor, and this one is not afraid to make this statement. The food has been tasty, the service somewhat unpredictable. Generally, the service seems a bit "cold" to me and that is why I gave it a 4. I wish I could have done 3.75 to emphasize how important service is. My last visit was last week and the server was great. However, I can't say the same about the other visits. If you like small desserts at a great price, you will enjoy their dessert menu. Oh mill valley you had me fooled! I was ever so skeptical of this joint; I was expecting upscale and overpriced eats with the conveniance of a local applebees. So thankful that one of my best friends lives happily right above this place, and I will gladly drive the 20 minute highway 100 trip to check out this place again! The atmosphere is perfect for a fancy dinner, or grabbing a glass of wine and appetizers with friends. We had the pinor noir, my only qualm is that there isn't a wine cheaper than $7 a glass, however delightful as it may have been. I also had the spinach goat cheese and onion flatbread. Perfect! People that don't like the restaurant probably aren't used to getting healthy food that isn't doused in preservatives, butter and fat before it comes out of the kitchen. As the name suggests, this trendy new restaurant is very reminiscent of the beautiful Mill Valley, CA with a Midwestern twist. My girlfriends and I decided to try it for our group Valentine's Day dinner and we were very happy with the decision. The first thing I noticed was the interior design and décor, which I had high expectations for when I read the press release a while back that Shea, Inc. (a reputable marketing and design firm), was hired. It is clean, modest and comfortable - A unique almost residential feel that I haven't found at many other restaurants. I am not crazy about the location of the restaurant, but that didn't make much of a difference once we were inside. The menu is inspired by the farm-to-table cuisine of Northern California and incorporates fresh, organic, and sustainable ingredients... I'll drink to that! The restaurant even goes an extra mile by including nutritional information about each dish right on the menu - all in all, very compatible with those who like to eat and live healthy lifestyles. The food was as delicious. We ordered a bottle of wine and a variety of vegetable sides for the table and we ate every crumb, although the crowd favorites were certainly the Coconut Sweet Potatoes and Sesame Carrots. And last but not least, the service was just great. Our waitress was funny, genuine, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the entire menu - wine in particular. She even put up with us well over-staying our welcome, being outrageously loud, and discussing topics that would make your parents blush :) While Mill Valley, CA is a wonderful place, I like it even better when it is packaged in a restaurant in my favorite city in the entire world. read more
