As a newbie to the Seattle area, this was the first restaurant I visited after a night of unpacking a few months ago. It has been a staple ever since. The tortellini is mouth watering and has to be my favorite option on the menu. The service is phenomenal where you can look forward to being greeted with a smile by the woman at the front who always provides excellent care. The first night I came in, we made a reservation as the reviews led us to understand how delicious the food is. We were welcomed in to a reserved table finished with a candle. This review is for my dining experience on the night of February 26. I was craving pasta, so my partner and I looked up some reviews while we were parked in our driveway. We decided on Modena because the reviews were good, and they were in close proximity. We were able to dine in and let me say the service alone would have been 5 stars! The kind man who waited on our table brought us water and even though the bottle was on our table he came to fill our glasses. I didn't have to touch the bottle once! I wish I would've got his name so I could thank him in this review. He talked to us about how this food was the real deal, quality ingredients, everything made in house. He was not lying and you could tell. He also told us we could order and if we had any dietary restrictions they could accommodate. Neither of us has any, but it was kind that he offered that without us asking. He also checked on us regularly even though the kitchen seemed super busy last night. We ordered chicken wings, the spicy penne with sausage, and tiramisu. The chicken was mostly for my partner and I think he enjoyed those. I was here for the pasta mainly. As we waited for our food he brought out a salad for me. I noticed that delivery drivers were going in and out of the door. I saw this as a good sign, people must love their food! The pasta 100% satisfied my craving. It was so creamy and the hint of spiciness from the chili flakes came through beautifully. The sausage in the dish was very flavorful. The garlic bread was crusty, buttery, and garlicky just like I like. I'm definitely going back for their pesto and Alfredo sauces next time. I was already getting so full. My plan was to only order dessert if I had room. I didn't really have room for more, but the pasta was so good I had a feeling the tiramisu would be too. I was right! I wish I would've taken a picture, but i was so excited and it was so good I didn't get a chance. I'm so glad I didn't skip it! We told him how good it was and he told us his cousin made it. She came out from the kitchen so we could let her know that we loved it. I didn't know that this place was family run, but I think that makes me love this place even more. They have really good pastas and salads- and a meatball parm grinder that is out of this world! The bread is always soft and fresh, salads always green and crunchy). Also, I love the huge assortment of desserts. I remember going in and doing an in person to-go order and asking what desserts they had, the lady was so very nice to me and said they don't have much. This is my go-to location for deliveries. They do not have a delivery fee and have a $15 minimum, which is easily met with a medium pizza. The only pizza I have tried from this location remains to be my favorite pizza in Seattle-- the Red Goat Pizza with red onions, red peppers, and goat cheese on regular crust and marinara. The flavors complement each other very well. This is an easy vegetarian option I order whenever I'm not feeling in the mood for meat. If I want to add a little more "substance" to the pizza, I add mushrooms (easy to do through the app). I have branched out and tried a couple appetizer/side dishes to accompany my Red Goat pizza. The spicy garlic prawns are soooooooooo good. They have a nice kick and I usually put these on top of some freshly made linguine to divide into two meals. There's plenty of sauce to make this happen, and for that I am very appreciative. The cauliflower is ok. It was a bit bland for my taste but I still ate it, so yay veggies. Modena used to have a lobster ravioli as well and that was delicious. I didn't see it on the menu this last time I ordered, but hopeful it will come back. I placed the order over Slice app and the pizza was ready for pickup 40 min later. It was pretty hot by the time I arrived home and tasted fresh. I liked both the flavors but the sausage+veggie was better of the two. The pizza had a decent quantity of cheese and the crust wasnt dry. Wanted to leave an appreciative review of Modena after coming in with 5 friends last night! I'm vegan and their vegan options are fantastic. My omni friends ordered a few pizzas and slices of cheesecake for dessert and kept talking about how great it was for a few hours after we left. I got myself a vegan pizza and brownie for dessert, and they brought the brownie out warm...so so nice! So far I haven't branched out from the Modena Special (pepperoni, sausage, olives) but I don't see how you can go wrong here. The crust is fluffy perfection, and the 10" size as a personal pizza is enough for a meal and some leftovers. The spanakopita is also amazing and perfectly seasoned, but I love that they also give you a dip. Added spinach which I was expecting a call for them to tell me how much extra it would be- they just added it which was a pleasant surprise. ‍ Didn't time how long it took, it estimated 35-45. Based on where I ended up in my Letterman Episode I'd say it came in 25 min. Crust was yummy... not too thick and a little chewy just like I it. Very flavorful, great amount of toppings. This review is for my first experience receiving delivery from them through grub hub and my first time eating their food. Let's start with the delivery. The order was very delayed while my diabetic partner was waiting for it. He's at work during this time. He calls and the place has a mix up with the fax machine. But the food eventually arrives. It's warm. Cool. Resolved. No. Our order was barely decent to consume. I think this was the first bad order from ordering delivery since the pandemic started. Sure other places have had issues. Sometimes I'd get the wrong entree or something was slightly underdone or overcooked. It's understandable. What we received didn't meet expectations for a restaurant of this kind. I ordered languini zucchini. It's very oily. The lid on the foil pan it comes in was sticking to it. I had to scrape it off of the food. Few bits of zucchini. A very meager portion compared to what restaurants of this price and style usually provide. There is maybe two mushroom slices in it. It's bland. The noodles taste a little old or underdone. They tried to do the chopped basil thing. The basil is awful. It's edible and I'm sure I won't get sick **knocks on wood ** but something wasn't right about it. Next, my partner had a grinder. It's mostly bread. Bread is great, but this was like all bread and very little substance inside. Soup? What soup? It was kind of a tomato water with a few pieces of chopped onion and more of that awful basil. It had a bitter aftertaste. I've never had tomato basil soup this watered down.. Or made bitter from basil stems. Yes the stems were in there. The basil was very overcooked. At this point, if the owner is reading this, please tell the kitchen crew who worked Sunday 9/13 between 5-8pm know this. We do not want any coupons. We will not be back. The grand finale: I had been so exited to have a cannoli. They're a rare treat. We spent over $50 at this restaurant. I'll add here that I threw out the soup and the other half of my $15 languini. Back to that dessert. It was not there. Instead we had a stack of pita bread. At least my buttered and garlicky French bread that came with the languini was good. My partner didn't complain about his salad, either. 2 stars for the fact that this is a pandemic and it's not really their fault that the fax machine and grub hub had an issue. Everything else? That's on them and again we do not want anything. Just talk to your kitchen crew. Reevaluate what your team needs. This was really awful. read more
