After all of these years, this place is still one of my favorites for banh mi sandwiches. They give a relatively good amount of meat in their sandwiches compared to the minimal slices from Lee's down the street. There is a small parking lot which makes it easily accessible to the public. I like their sandwiches much better than Lee's sandwiches. Unfortunately they do nothing about the homeless guy who is always sitting in their restaurant. He doesn't seem like a customer to me cuz he wasn't eating sandwiches or anything from there. I actually went there 4 weekends in a rows and I see him every single time. The guy doesn't wear a mask, looks dirty and today is even the worst cuz he talked so loud and non sense to himself or whoever. Very annoying and who knows if he has covid or not. Been coming here for a while now and usually get their ham and egg sandwich or their #1 sandwich and an ice coffee. Sandwich is still great... And their ice coffee is the best around, good strong Vietnamese ice coffee. But lately, I noticed that the ice coffee has been getting weaker and weaker... even looks lighter in color... Although, at their location on Garvey, in which I go every Saturday, the ice coffee still tastes like it always did, robust and strong. Baguettes here are really long and a bit more narrow compared to other places. It is really hard, like cut the top of your mouth hard! Cold meat combination - 2.5 stars. Plenty of meat, very little mayo and a good serving of the daikon. Main complaint is how hard the bread is. read more

Covid-19 Togo friendly place My first review in a long time bc of the Stay In Place Order. I wanted to recognize places that provide clean quality food and an easy Togo order process. Nowadays during lockdown, if I make a run to the market or restaurant ... I include my siblings families so we don't all have to go out into the world... less outing and avoid virus. When I first called here, the lady transferred me to another lady who spoke more English as my Vietnamese is not so fluent. That lady was very patient. She was willing to pack 8 different orders into 8 different bags. I paid on one same bill and made it easier to drop off to siblings. The food has always been the same. Many people like Subway, but not me. I prefer a nice Vietnamese Sandwich otherwise known as Banh Mi. It costs less and you get a much better quality sandwich. Mr. Baguette is one of the better Banh Mi peddlers around this area. They have their own private parking lot as well as security plus the addition of an outdoor seating area for smokers. Their baguette is the best and the price is about right. I like that they have a Sesame Seed Baguette. They do not give you a lot of meat here. This one does not sell premade food like many other places as they mainly focus on baguettes and Vietnamese Iced Coffee similar to any Lee's Sandwich location. This is a great substitute to fast food, which costs more or possibly the same. read more

Mr. Baguette is decent, reliable, inexpensive and relatively clean, with fast service and friendly staff. But no wow factor. Just nice ingredients on good bread, but for me, they don't blend together like they do at Baguette City. Mr. Baguette is cleaner than Baguette City, and both are equally inexpensive, but Baguette City wins on taste. The bread at both places is equally good, with Mr. Baguette a bit more chewy and crusty. Today I tried two sandwiches: Saigon-style Bacon, and Pork Meat Loaf. Both were delightful and nice, and cheap. Seems like they left off things like mayo or any seasoning, though, because both were on the bland side. Even the fresh jalapeno peppers (which I added liberally) were not enough to kick it up a notch. Oh and of course I had to include Vietnamese coffee! Classic and great as always. Here is a big thank you to everyone from SOUTH Vietnam who seem to just love opening up cool little sandwich shops and offering a wonderful taste of their homeland so cheap! Ironically, I always put $2 or $3 in the tip jar, so maybe it comes out to the same, but I would rather give my working man cash to the working people than to anyone else. Wow Paris is burning....literally....this use to be the standard of croissants - Viet French style but this place is now so ran down. I guess I should had figured this once I pulled into the parking lot and there were flocks of older vietmanese men just hanging out at all the tables watching tv and drinking viet coffee.... This place use to crank out the baguettes and croissants but now looks to only do a bakery rack at a time......everything looks dilapidated and not so clean....very disappointing as I haven't been here for years...... Their croissants are dry and chewy.....quality is gone. I am guessing must be a new owner. I LOVE BANH MI! If you know my food tastes, then you would know I despise all sandwiches, especially cold ones. I love bread, but hate the sandwich. This place makes a crispy, crunchy special banh mi sandwich (#2) that is out of this world. The bread is awesome, the meat is fulfilling, and the pickled daikon and carrots come in a little separate baggie for the on-the-go worker. With an iced coffee, PERFECT! In and out for $6, though it's more than other places, I still think this is the best place to buy banh mi in the area and I don't mind paying $2 more. Alternatively, I also order the bacon sandwich (#12). Greasy, chewy, fatty pork goodness, plus it's a bigger sandwich. The bad...PARKING. Meet the French-Vietnamese version of Subway. Mr. Baguette has won my heart with their "no B.S. attitude," fast and furious sandwich making style, and fancy chef hats. I have now 'dined' at several locations of Mr. Baguette and still find all 3 of the above facts to be just that - facts. The pricing is incredibly FAIR, it is CHEAPER than Subway, and who doesn't love piping hot French style baguette bread, with whatever you just ordered ontop of it? There are several styles to choose from. Choices range from their original #1 style sandwich consisting of jambon ham, pork meat loaf, pork head cheese, and a signature pate and mayonnaise spread. I came here awhile ago and have been wanting to return but got confused about its location. I found it again today :p Their sandwiches are really long, 12-15 inches. I have only tried the special #1: ham, head cheese, pâté, mayonnaise and house salad on their housemade baguette. They make the PERFECT baguette here... The sandwich has all the things I don't normally like (cold cuts, mayonnaise) but this sandwich is quite good. It would be perfect for a picnic and a welcome surprise lunch for anyone ! This is my go to place for Bánh mì. Love love their bread and I always get at least one loaf. My mother loves the tuna Bánh mì, and curry. I love the chicken and the special Bánh mì. I normally also order some of the meat pies, if there is any left. When I travel, I buy two chicken Bánh mì with the veg on the side, slice them in half in one gallon ziplock bag. It's Banh mi to Banh you. I felt like getting bonk'd with the provocation of how to order before getting a chance to decide. Valley Blvd in the San Gabriel Valley is like the mecca for all sorts of different Asian cuisines.You can pretty much scored all types of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Filipino, Taiwanese, and even some Japanese food. There's even Asian fusion or Cajun southern comfort food if you want to even out that score. Which brings me to Mr. Baguette was that a while back, I have heard this is the place for iced coffee. It was suppose to be some funky cold Medina I have never experienced, but alas when I got the iced coffee, it was just plain ol' coffee poured over ice. Maybe I was expecting too much, but it wasn't anything that I couldn't get at Starbucks. The sandwich shop has that Paris cafe look with outdoor seatings to boot.The indoor seatings have a big window viewing facing Valley Blvd. I'm not quite sure the panoramic view of the street was a good idea considering you are looking at traffic jam. Banh Mi sandwiches to me are the essence of what sandwich should be like. There are sliced beef and pork with the advents of spicy condiments of pickles and relishes that slopped on the inside of a crunchy, but yet delectable baked French bread. It's not only yummy, but usually the most affordable sandwiches you'll find. it's cheaper than Subway sandwiches! The thing that I liked about Mr. Baguette over some of the banh mi sandwich joints was that they are a little bit more organized with the orders. You would just walk up to the counter and proceed to order your items. Then a Ford assembly line of workers would take the order, make the sandwiches, then take out to the pick up counter ready to be pick up by the customers. It's confusing sometimes because the items are scattered all across the front register to the pick up counter that is facing the parking lot. Heck, right when I walk out, I realized that they have other small ethnic snacks that was displayed on the counter. I saw that after I finished paying for my orders. That is a problem I had with this place and Lee's sandwich was that I never could find all the things I want until I walked out. The price is DOUBLE what you can get from other competitors like Lee's Sandwiches or Saigon Sandwich & Bakery (which charges $2 flat for their banh mi sandwiches). So the price was an issue and I did enjoyed it as much, but at twice the cost of their competitors. That was a huge stinger considering Mr. Baguette's sandwiches cost about $4 or more. It does put a pause for me on that front. Overall, the sandwiches are pretty good, but for price on the value... I would take across the street to Lee's sandwich and buy two sandwich that would only fetch me one at Mr. Baguette. read more

We stopped by to pick up a baguette today and it was still hot and crispy and fresh... perfect just as is, you don't need a sandwich it was that satisfying... I like their sandwiches which I have had a couple of times over the years... I also like their curry filled turnover, but I don't remember what it's called... Sooooo I'm not sure if this is the particular location that my family buys their Banh Mi sandwiches/baguettes or the other locations but I must say that Mr. Baguette is pretty darn good! Lots of flavor in one bite after another. This is based on my experiences eating my Banh Mi since I myself have not been to Mr. Baguette inside. But I will say that their baguette's bread is wayyyyyyyy better than Lee's Sandwiches and Banh Mi Che Cali (Bakery). What makes it better than the others is that Mr. Baguette's bread texture itself is hard on the outside/not super flaky (like the super cheap dough that Cali Bakery uses) but super soft in the inside. It's almost similar to bread that you would get at an Italian Deli/Bakery. It's really good quality. Plus, their bread remains the same texture the next day whereas the other bakeries' bread gets dried up and hard (and crumbles into pieces). The break flavor profile from Mr. Baguette is great! Too bad it's kinda far away from where I am...if I lived closer, I would make multiple trips here for cheap, inexpensive good quality Banh Mi sandwiches, especially for lunch or a quick bite to eat and go. The worse service. Called in to pick up 20 mins in advance just to stand in the pickup line for another 15 mins. When I asked the lady she didn't even speak English so I had no clue what she was saying. Boooo I was so disappointed when I came in! How much do you expect to pay for a sandwich, like $3 right? So I managed to rack up over $3 of change in my car while parked in their little lot. And when I walked in, the only thing I could afford was their SMALL sandwiches. Regular size was over $4. I was so annoyed that I had to settle for a tiny sandwich... haha I assumed they were cash only, but now I realize they take cards... oops ahhah Anyways, this was during a time when I would buy banh mi from different places a few times a week for lunch, and the sandwich would sit in the fridge at work the entire morning. This is where Mr. Baguette surprised me. Many other banh mi bread get soft or dry or overly chewy after being in the fridge for half a day. Not this one! It was still crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. I'm picky with baguettes, I grew up eating them, and I must say this is exactly how I love my bread. Bonus points: sandwiches with eggggg! They put the veggies inside the sandwich again, which is good. I remember coming here a long time ago and they put the veggies in a little baggie, which is annoying when you just wanna unwrap your sandwich and eat. Finally tried this banh mi place after passing by it a billion times on the way to San Gabriel! When I went, I was pretty much the only customer inside the store and there were these Asian gangster-looking people outside the store so I was kinda scared but I'm sure they were nice people lolll (: I ordered 2 of the #21 Grilled Chicken for my brother and I and I and got it togo. The baguette was honestly a little hard and the roof of my mouth hurts now but the filling was really good. The Grilled Chicken had lettuce, tomato, Asian mayo (a little sweet), American cheese and plentiful grilled chicken cooked with black pepper. It was $4.99 for a 12 inch (they cut it in half for you) and it was really filling! If you come with someone, I suggest you order something different than the other person so you can try 2 flavors. I have had Lee's Sandwiches' banh mi and they are really small and the baguette is more tough than Mr. Baguette so I would say that Mr. Baguette is better than Lee's Sandwiches because eating a Lee's Sandwich is like being a masochist and they also have smaller portions. The sandwiches come with 1/4 slice of pickle and one of those pickled peppers that you can get from In-n-out! I love pickles nomnomnom. Better then Lee's, that's for sure. The bread is better, the meat is better, and the Pate they use doesn't smell like a dead cat. How do you know someone is eating Lee's? Because you can smell it within a 1 mile radius. That stuff stank. Mr. Baguette will not attract flies and the local wildlife. It will attract your friend's hoping for a bite of your banh mi though. I only give this 4 stars because I want it to be higher rated then Lee's. They used to be really expensive but I guess since they lost so much business they have since lowered their prices. In early 2007, I organized my quarterly "Quartet" dining series for my group and this time around, we focused on checking out 4 Banh Mi restaurants in February and March. The four places we visited were Mr. Baguette, Banh Mi & Che Cali, Banh Mi Cho Cu Bakery & Lee's Sandwiches. Before starting this series, I have never had banh mi before so this was definitely going to be a new culinary experience for me. I started the "Banh Mi Quartet" with Mr. Baguette in Rosemead primarily because I remembered seeing it featured on Huell Howser. Walking into Mr. Baguette at 10:30 am, I was surprised at how busy it was. After finally getting a table with my dining buddies, we finally walked up to the counter to place our orders. When placing your banh mi orders, you have a choice of either having the pickled veggies on the side or in the sandwich. I opted for the side so that I could customize my sandwiches to my taste. I went for the Avocado Shake and ordered two sandwiches, the Special Banh Mi with the ham and pate as well as the Smoked Bacon on the Sesame Roll. Being an avocado lover, the shake was an instant hit. It was rich, creamy and filled me with avocado love. As for the sandwiches, let's start with the Special Banh Mi. While I liked the bread, I didn't think it was anything to write home about. It had a nice crust to it, but the inside of the bread wasn't soft enough, which disappointed me. As for the cold cuts, I wasn't that impressed. On their own, the meats were kind of bland and it was only the pickled veggies that gave the sandwich any flavor at all. I actually preferred the Smoked Bacon on the Sesame Roll. Yes, it's more like a Subway sandwich in that it's a bigger roll and it comes with lettuce and tomato, but the bread was really good. In fact, in this scenario, I just liked this bread better than the more traditional Vietnamese banh mi bread of the other sandwich. Of course, it didn't hurt that the main ingredient was bacon in all its fatty, smoky goodness. I think it just may be true that everything tastes good with bacon. Based on my meal there, I'd probably go back to Mr. Baguette again. I would definitely like to try a different banh mi from the cold cuts as a point of comparison. This place was recommended to me for lunch. I came down here to check this place out. The sandwich itself was ok. Not the greatest sandwich, but not he worst either. I got the grilled chicken sandwich, although I should've tried the signature sandwich instead. The bread was very stale. The chicken on the other hand was good. The lettuce and tomatoes used were fresh. Very big on flavor. The ice coffee is ridiculously strong. I will stay away from that next time. 3 stars for this business. Cheap prices. Easy parking. Fast service. BUT the smokers that hang out outside! Why? Why must you gather in front of this business and smoke? Makes for an unpleasant visit. This store looks so sparse inside. There are always people sitting at the tables outside by the door drinking coffee and smoking. Once you get past that, you get a large selection of Vietnamese sandwiches. They range from different hams, chicken, and meatballs. Their baguette is pretty good--better than Lee's. At least you won't cut up the inside of your mouth with it, as a friend once told me. One thing I don't get is that they ask you if you want the pickled vegetables in the sandwich or on the side. It used to be that it was in a baggy by default. Now, if you want that option, they charge 25 cents for the "service." Sounds a bit ridiculous to me. read more
