Mr. Churro piqued my interest for fast & cheap, so I hauled ass to their lil shop tucked away inside the building w/ the public restrooms. It's located next to Alameda & the sign on Olvera St. helps direct people on that side to find the place. Just remember - Public restrooms, Mr. Churro. Classic churros are $2 & churros rellenos are $3 with your choice of strawberry, chocolate, caramel & custard. I had a churro stuffed with chocolate. The sugary pastry was around 1 foot 1/2 to 2 feet long! It was great - warm, sugary, chocolately - like yours truly J/K. There's enough to split one with your significant other. After having churros squeezed out of a jack hammer contraption and fried in cauldrons in Mexico (see below), I am still to this day trying to find something equivalent to the Churros made from the churro-motherland, except here in So.Cal. Real churros are light, crisp, and not full of bread, so it gives a chance for the cinnamon to shine with every chew. Mr Churro didn't hit the mark for me. The churros are quite expensive at 2.50 for a regular and 3.50 for a filled one. I actually really enjoyed the filled ones except for the fact that they are only filled about 1/3 of the way down! There is actually not much that sets these apart from the $1-2 churros you'll find all around the area e.g. right next to Grand Central Market. These churros are just too dough heavy for my tastes (I do not enjoy the costco ones for the same exact reason) so if you like that type of churro(you would +1 to my overall rating), you'll probably will enjoy these also. The amount of flavors they have (more than 6) is pretty cool. I went with custard, strawberry and guava(tasted like tangy custard). It is right by a festive air market. They've moved across the way due to the Getty restoring the Siqueiros mural on the side of the Italian Hall. When it's done, the old Mr. Churro's location will be the entrance to a deck where you can go up and actually look at the mural. I'm really excited about this. Just randomly noticed it, went inside and got a churro (shared with Antho L.) and OMG, they had a cream filler (ala Beard Papa). HAD TO GET IT FILLED. The churro was nice and fresh, (it was sitting right above the fryer) wasn't overfried (aka too hard) and nice and soft on the inside. We waited a few minutes for our order but when it came out all of the churros were hot! The cajeta churros are outstanding! They cut the churro in half and fill it with your choice of filling. My daughter had the strawberry which was also very good but I tend to not choose sweet fillings. The plain churro was good also, according to my son who finished it quickly! They actually have a big menu full of food from hamburgers to burritos and many types of desserts. I will actually order other items next time we come down as well as the churros. It's all about the churros.... $3 for filled churros, $2 churros without filling.... I have no idea if these are "authentic" or not but who cares they're soooo delicious. They were crispy and warm on the outside, gooey in the inside from the filling. Sucks for that one yelper who got them cold, but I agree never serve these cold! I would say they are just a bit smaller than the churro from Costo, so it's pretty big. They split it in half and fill each side with the filling of your choice. You of course can have it without the filling. Mmmmmm churros!!! I've never tried churros with fillings ever before! It's $3 a piece for the ones with filling (chocolate, strawberry, custard, and caramel) and $2 for a plain churro. I opted for the chocolate-filled churro and my bf got the strawberry-filled churro. Both were really tasty, but I preferred the strawberry one better. Something about it went well with the sweet, sugary, cinnamon-y taste of the churro. If I'm ever in the area again, I want to come back and try the other flavors! While on an outing to Olvera Street for my son's Spanish class, and trying to bring the visit full circle with what my two kids (14 year old son and 10 year old daughter) had learned in their 4th grade Mission Projects, we took a quick detour into a building marking the Los Angeles Pueblo. I ordered the churros rellenos (filled) with lechera (sweetened condensed milk), my son went with simply ice cream (chocolate) and my daughter chose the best of both worlds with a sundae that had churros in it. My churros were crunchy and cinnamon sugary on the outside and milky smooth on the inside! Every bite was deliciously messy with the sugar and filling lingering on my lips. They were served in a simple plastic bag or it'd have been all over me. My son never turns down good ice cream and enjoyed his scoop. My daughter whose eyes were bigger than her stomach did make a good dent in the mountain but agreed that the churros were the best. After finishing our Cielito Lindo taquitos (so good!) we walked over to Mr. Churro. So, Mr. Churro doesn't beat the real deal from our neighbors down south, but they are pretty damn tasty. Quality can be hit and miss, as some days the churros aren't hot and fresh - but when they are.... it's delightful. I agree they're better than Costco, and about on par with Disneyland in terms of lightness and crunch and freshness. The best thing about this place is the filling options, with custard being my favorite and guava coming in at a close second. The other ones are a bit too sweet for me (which is saying a lot). The price is a bit high for a single churro, but since it's in walking distance from me, it negates any cost of driving/parking near the madness of Chinatown. I've tried a few of their entrees like the super fries and the California burrito which were decent, but I'd stick to the churros since there's way better food on Olvera St. Service is pretty friendly, but seating can be tricky on the weekends since the crowds can get big.
