Impressions I laughed when I saw the sign on the register proudly stating "we're on Yelp". I'm not sure if that was encouraging people to go online and write a review, or bragging that they'd somehow "made it". Either way I knew no one would advertise being on a website like Yelp unless they had a decent track record. A friend didn't tell me about this place and I didn't read about it on here. I literally stumbled upon it today and since it had the ' off the beaten path, non tourist trap, hole-in-the-wall vibe I figured why not try it. It isn't a "booth" on Olvera, if you somehow miss the sign then you'll never find it! In fact a few people stopped to ask us where we got our churros because they were larger, and looked better, than any other vendor there! They fry the churros in batches, 20 or so to a rack, looked like 4 or 5 racks. That sounds like a lot but the ones I saw were going like hotcakes. Each churro is about 1.5ft long, so I broke them in half and gave a half to each kid. I opted for the "non filled" due to the mess factor. My wife went with the chocolate filled. When you ask for a filled one they break it in half. Then they go to this hand pump "machine" and squeeze it full. The kids liked them so much, and they were so cheap, that I went back a second time. Texture/Taste Our first batch was warm, but not overly hot. The kids didn't need the napkin to hold the churro halves, and each bite was covered in sugar. I'd guess if they had sat another 10 minutes it wouldn't have tasted as good. I also walked in to no line when I bought that batch so I suspect it might have cooled on the rack. Round 2 was literally "hot off the press". This is how I know the "process" because they ran out of churros and we all had to wait for this batch. The kids had to blow on them to cool them down. And this was AFTER standing at the head of a line for 5 minutes waiting on the batch and then walking them out to the kids. That batch melted in our mouths and was better then the first ones (which until that point we didn't think was possible). Verdict They are not "made to order" so it is all about timing. If you walk in and there is a rack sitting there then it could be fresh or it could be cold. Likewise if you walk into a large line then you could get fresh, or you could get cold depending on how the chips fall. You WANT hot and fresh if at all possible! I went with 4 stars (really a 3.5) because if they made the churros to order then it would be a consistent experience. This is why there are so many mixed reviews on here. read more

I went here on a Monday morning after 8AM (when they open). First I couldn't find them; you have to go inside (down some stairs, I think) to find their actual location. Someone was inside, but the door was locked. So, one star for not opening on time. Luckily, someone nearby sent me to La Noche Beuna (E-8 on Olvera Street). Churros are great! The caramel churro was my favorite one. BUT.. Being the first time I went there I wasn't sure how each churro was sold and had trouble ordering because the cashier seemed to deliberately be playing dumb...they also work really slowly.. Not because it takes very long for them I prepare a premise churro, but because they try to make the line go out of the door. I was there for twenty minutes with only 4 people ahead of me in like while I watch three employees quietly clean behind the counter. Great novelty but questionable business strategies. read more

Absolutely Delicioso! Came here on a Friday at about 2pm. 2 others in line before my turn, 2 others after my turn. Saw the FSQ (not Yelp) tips. Decided on Caramel & Regular. I asked the moustached guy his recommendation for a 1st timer. He said the Caramel. Went with my plan with the Regular & Caramel. $3 bucks a pop. For the 2 and a $1 tip, came out to $7 + parking, which was $2.50. (Small lot on Alameda, towards Chevron on Corner) i'll def be back when i plan a future shopping trip here but, will prob park in Chinatown & huff it over. My bf and I were just wandering around Olvera St trying to walk off the heavy pounds we had just gained from scarfing down food in Little Tokyo when we saw a sign pointing in the direction of Mr. Churro. Who can turn down a churro?! Even though we were pretty full, we got one regular churro and one filled with crema (custard). It was a super hot day so we also added a tamarindo drink and a mango raspado (shaved ice). First off, the churros were sooooo good. Both were! Way better than the ones we scoured Barcelona last summer to find. The churro we were looking for was in DTLA all along, we honestly should've known better! The custard wasn't overly sweet so it was a great filling for the churro! The mango raspado was also refreshingly good! At first we were kinda disappointed because it wasn't very syrupy and the shaved ice were pretty big chunks. But after a few bites and as some ice melted, the taste really grew on us and we ended up loving it. The reason why it's not that syrupy is because its actual mango chunks and the "syrup" is mango juice. As the ice melted down a bit, it got better and better with each bite! Now that I know about this place, it is definitely going to be a pitstop whenever I'm around chinatown. read more

Visited on 4/2/18 around 6pm. Located in the heart of placito Olvera in down town LA, there is no parking that is free. Bring cash and patience. I recommend, if possible, to take the bus. Now the review. The place is clean. Ordered churros, of course. Had the cajeta (caramel), crema (cream), cheesecake and regular. All are good but highly recommend the cream and caramel. They were filled to the top, this time, so every bite was good. Also ordered mango smoothie, which tasted fresh and surprisingly right amount of tart and sugar. As for customer service, all the guys, I mean all the guys are rude, grumpy, don't say hi, excuse me, how's everything, nope nothing. More like what do you want, move outta my way, pick up your order now etc. Customer service is always gold, always. I guess in the end just pick up your churro and leave. Overall, clean and churros are good, customer service needs ALOT of improvement however, haven't found a good churro place like them, so until then I'll put up with their grumpiness. read more

I got Guayaba and my BF got cream cheese. They were both really good! The wait for 2 churros was pretty long but they were making the churros fresh ! They also were pretty busy with food orders. I got a plain churro for $2.50 and it wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. They came out hot and had a good sugar coat but the dough was alright. I would have much rather gotten a churro from Costco.... I guess they're known for the filled churros so I would try that next time. this place serves a ton of different food, not sure how good the rest of the menu is, but you should definitely come here for one of their famous stuffed churros. caramel and chocolate are both really good, but it is a lot, i'd recommend sharing a couple with a friend so you can try different flavors. there's hardly any room inside, but they give you the churros in a bag so you can walk around Pueblo with it. grab some napkins tho, its messy. read more

we had: tostada with al pastor, 2 carne asada tacos, 1fish taco, 1 quesadilla and one sope. freakin good. meat was fresh, not old. salsa was fresh and with the right heat. tasty, original mexican food with friendly service on a Sunday afternoon. we swallowed it all down with horchata and some caramel stuffed churros. Literally the best churros I've ever had, I came here yesterday for the first time and I'm craving it right now, I wish I didn't try this place cause now I'm going to be addicted !! I wish I lived close by so I could get it everyday ! haha all jokes aside, I would definitely recommend, it was a little hard to find the place because it's not on a Main Street its tucked in, I wouldn't really know how to explain how to get there but if you go on olvera street there you will eventually see a sign for mr churros, in the same direction of the bathrooms. it's $5 minimum for cards. I got the condensed milk churro, and the filling was super sweet, little bit too over sweet to be honest, but if you pour out a little but of it it won't be too bad, but the churro alone was bomb af too. we also got an ice cream cone to meet the minimum card requirement (cookies and cream) and the ice cream wasn't too sweet which was good because I needed to balance out the overly sweet condensed milk filling. a churro with filling and an ice cream cone was about $7-$8, the churro was $3.50 (comes in two sticks) and non filled churros were $2.50 I believe. I would definitely recommend this place if you like churros, haven't tried their Mexican food though. read more

After an afternoon walking around Chinatown...we decided to walk over to Olvera St. and take a look at what there was there. It was later in the afternoon...and a lot of the little shops were closing up. We wandered into the restaurant area where Mr. Churro was located because there were restroom arrows. Once the hubby and I took care of business we both saw Mr. Churro and just had to take a look. There was one older gentleman working in the back...and a stack of churros in a case. The hubby and I both questioned the freshness of his churros...and let me tell you...those were fighting words to the gentleman in the back. He cooks all of his churros fresh...and made sure we were very clear on that. (Didn't mean to offend...we just wanted to be sure) We ordered one churro...not filled...and went to the table in the hallway to taste it. The thing was super hot and super fresh...just as the nice man insisted. It was probably one of the best churros I've ever had and the hubby made the same statement (only out loud...) and we soon were back in the little restaurant for another churro (since the hubby was not taking breaths in between bites haha) This is a place you really shouldn't pass up if you are in the area. If you do not want to go through Olvera St. you can go in the separate entrance from the main street. read more

Was in the Chinatown area for early dinner and decide to take advantage of my free parking spot and roam the area using those strange appendages called legs. Since Olvera Street is so close by I decided to finally (yes, where have I've been) go check the area out. It was a Sunday late afternoon/early evening and there was still a good amount of people. Though one of the biggest reason I wanted to go Olvera Street was for Mr. Churro. I saw a handful of folks eating them as I browsing the stalls so I knew that it was a sign that I must go, even though I was still full from dinner. Of course I saw all the choices and had a first world problem of deciding what to get. I'm good with just plain but they seem to be known for filled and I was curious what crema and guayaba tasted like since I love guava too.
