Giving this place 1 star is generous. My husband and I walked in and were immediately seated. The hostess and manager barely acknowledged us. It seemed as though they weren't even opened. The food was amazing. I had the fried shrimp platter. There was plenty of shrimp and fries so I was able to share with my parents. My mom got the fried catfish platter. Came with 3 pieces of fish and fries. My dad got the small red beans and rice with a side link of sausage and he said it was fantastic (and he's picky). The waitress was so sweet. Service was fast. Food was average and catfish was very "fishy" tasting. Nowhere as good as the catfish we have had all week in town. Service was incredibly slow. Workers at the hostess stand were more worried about talking to each other rather than acknowledging guests. Took 15 minutes to place our drink & food order. Then took another 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Almost the same time as our food. Server never gave us silverware or napkins. When I asked for napkins she brought bars napkins. The food was just OK. The stuffed mushrooms were not. They shoved a mushroom into a ball of something and fried it. I added crawfish tails to my fried shrimp and the tails were cold. Warning to diners--this place is a tourist trap! I have to be fair, it's not that the food or service was bad, I just had no idea what I was walking into when I went, and it was not what I was hoping for. It was a typical first time to a new city mistake--wanted to eat some authentic New Orleans cuisine, got stuck with a a cheesy-overpriced place that caters to tourists. Regularly come here whenever I'm in New Orleans -- it's crowded, often loud, maybe a little too much $$ for some things -- but I love it. Favorite place to eat Cajun. Love the Crab platter. Went here looking for local food on a trip to the city and visit family. there were 4 of us and a baby. I got aligator pasta and a side of crawfish. the crawfish were tiny, I expected them to be larger. the aligator was tasteless which it shouldn't be for pasta. my wife got a crab cake and some sausage and liked both. I didn't expect the side veggies to be what they were, more of a culture difference I'm sure than anything. they had a stage but no music yet from it which would have been nice. it was ok, nothing special beyond the local ingredients read more

Good place for lunch. Caters to the tourist crowd and does a nice job of serving up the region's specialties. They were able to accommodate my GLUTEN FREE requirements but did not have a separate menu. The server was not familiar with GF needs but quickly found a more experienced server who did and they advised me of the things I should/ could order (grilled items only). They did a good job. I had the grilled alligator appetizer and the grilled catfish with rice and sautéed veggies. Never had alligator before and liked it; it's a white meat, a little oily but not much. They did not use any Cajun seasonings as they contained gluten. This was a bonus for me as a gluten free diner. There are better places you can go. I made a yelp account and got the app simply to write this review. Service was slow, despite only ten other people at the most inside the place. Food was okay, but ten dollars for a little plate of onion rings is outrageous. Dropped in for a quick snack, left SIXTY DOLLARS poorer after three appetizers and four sodas. If you want good food, and don't want to end up asking strangers for their change on the sidewalk, go elsewhere. It's New Orleans; there is no shortage of good food in this city. read more

The restaurant has great food and a live band. They even have dancing partners if you need one. I got the stuffed shrimp with crab meat and it was delicious. My husband got the stuffed catfish with crab meat and he was pleased. I would recommend giving this place a try. We went twice while we vacationed in NOLA. read more

I give it a 3 because the service was good. The food was very mediocre and not worth the price we paid. I had a bowl of gumbo and my friend had the fried catfish platter. The gumbo came in a huge bowl with a very small bowl of rice. I almost thought they were joking when they gave me the bowl of rice. It was kind of salty, if we wasn't so hungry and Mother's line wasn't around the corner we would of left. My friends catfish was also salty and not that good. Our total bill was about $49 which is a lot for 2 people. We went on a Friday night they had live music and it was busy but our food was ready fast. Would not eat here again. read more

We ate here for our first meal after running a half marathon we were in town for. It was on the way back to our hotel and we were all hungry! It was I guess 11am on a Sunday morning. Not alot of people in there when we arrived. But despite the reviews we had a wonderful experience. The food was good to us. I had the Roasted Corn & Shrimp Bisque, which I thought was wonderful. I had never had this before and really had not had many bisques period but I enjoyed it very much. I did get the small "appetizer" cup, as the waitress described instead of the bowl, but I did see French Bread on the menu and asked for that. When my soup came it was fine not too much not too little with the small whole loaf of bread. I was happy. The others in my party got the Red Beans and Rice and also the Hamburger steak I believe and no complaints from either. We enjoyed it very much! read more

Went to Mulate's on a recent Sunday night during a trip to town during Mardi Gras. Our waitress was friendly and professional and the food was great! We ordered the fried gator, crawfish etouffee and shrimp and corn bisque. All were delicious and portion sizes very generous. They had a live band playing zydeco and some customers were dancing. It was a fun and lively atmosphere. A little loud, but great for groups and families. They had a large menu with something for everyone. I only wish my Hurricane had been a little stronger at $11 a pop. We will be back! read more
