My dad went to shop today around 340 pm . He had all his groceries had waited 20 minutes for fried fish and fried tacos . Went to pay for his things and stood in line for 10 min . The cashier told him that she was going on break and could not ring him up . He asked if someone else could ring him up because he was next and they said no , you need to get in a new line . My father left all his groceries and cooked food . Because he was not going to start all over in a new line. He also asked for a manger and they told him that there wasn't one working , Securtiy told him that. This a reason I rather shop at places that cost more and offer better customer service . He is old school and wants to shop at Hispanic places and he gets shitty service . Go to Trader Joe's ! read more

Great place to shop for ethnic produce, meats, bakery and ready made meals. A go to market on a budget and on the fly. I've used their ready made meals for office parties, student events and family gatherings. The servers behind the counter are polite and friendly when asked for assistance. This store is the one in at 4700 Cherry Ave .in Long Beach, Calif 90807. Until today, I had good things to say about the Baker department at this location had been ordering my cakes and always a great experience but today when I went to pick up my sons cake which I had ordered yesterday for today at 4PM guess what they hadn't made it. The man was looking and he was like can you wait 12 minutes and like okay and then I'm like wondering wondering what going on until he told another man can u make the cake I'm like what ur kidding put I'm still thinking it dont take 12 minutes to make no cake anyways. Went to store manager got paracial refund and cake. She was so apologetic. This is a big disappointment to us. Even if they explained they don't bake the whole cake just something so that's why it takes a short time. I was sad to had to explain to my son. Changing stores. The price of nostalgia is around a 3% increase on all goods, if you're looking for a place to actually shop I recommend Aldi. However if this visitation is filed by fixations on a bygone era then come here. One time an old lady fell and they were super quick to help her up, I helped too, just enough to say that I helped but not an inch more. However, employees need to improve their people skills... or learn some basic English to communicate with non-speaking Spanish customers. I noticed that non-speaking Spanish customers are ignored. So wrong especially when this market is located in a multi-ethnic area. I speak Spanish and I've never been ignored but I witnessed people of other races been ignored or "told to wait" till a Spanish speaking person is available. LOVE Northgate Market! I buy the marinated taco meats almost weekly. I also love their selection of fresh ceviches, salsas and tortillas. Great selection of items including fresh veggies. I was such a fan of your choco flan but not any more. My son decided he wanted a choco flan for his 18th birthday. I went in to order the choco flan a day before his birthday. I ordered it for a reason I wanted it to be freshly made. Other times I've ordered it and there's no problem at all. This time when I went to pick up the choco flan it had a weird look. It looked differently from other times I've ordered. It looked old, I asked the gentleman who attended me if it was freshly made he said yes. So I believed him thinking it was really freshly made. After cutting and tasting the choco flan we were so disappointed. The flan has a weird taste the chocolate part was very hard. I was so embarrassed with my guests. I knew when I saw this choco flan there was something wrong with it.That choco flan was old and not freshly made.I paid almost $30 for this choco flan. Very disappointed and over priced. I will never come here again. I should have went to Porto's bakery. I paid almost $30 for something that had been sitting in your coolers for weeks. You guys should eat it. If I paid that much for something fresh and you guys just think of selling something that's old then you guys should eat and not sell it to customers. OK everyday is the same thing I come to buy a monster energy drink and the cashier are very slow. Literally some days I have to wait 10 min in line to purchase my drink. All to save 1.25 ... I see many workers just walking up and down. With a face that they Dont want to be at work. Wow as I'm writing this the lady in front of me fainted literally. I'm in shock this happen Mon 12:33 pm 4/10/2017 you have to wait to long in line people shouldn't have to wait this long when people are fainted in line. I agree with Louie B's comments. This market uses their "number tickets" when it suits them. The employees are not at all helpful to non-spanish speaking customers. I was at the salsa bar waiting to be served. About five people pushed their way in front of me (not one with a number) finally after everyone else had been waited on I gave my order to the guy behind the counter. A women with a number pushed her way in front of me, she and salsa-bar guy had an exchange of words in spanish. All of a sudden, we're going to use the numbers and I "again" I did not get waited on. I simply went to the cashier to check-out with the pastries my out of town guest had asked me to go to that particular market for. But I'm done with this low class market. I've never had such horrible customer service at a hot food deli. Waited for 10 minutes for the person in front of me to get her two burritos made by a slow girl employee. When it was my turn, a man employee who jumped in to help the slow girl, totally skipped me. The customer behind me said I was next. The guy served one of my four plates and just left. The slow girl helped three other customers and then finally finished my order 20 minutes later! Bad customer service. read more

I love coming here for groceries! Its close to home, its brand new and super clean, and they have so much to offer! My favorites here are the bakery (great tres leches cake for a great price), their well priced veggies, their awesome salsas, their fast food, and AGUAS FRESCAS. So good! Because it is a new Northgate, the cleanliness of this store is definitely a plus. I really hope they maintain this! The parking lot is nice but very tight, not much room along the aisles! For me, I always park in the back there so I am free to roam around when I arrive and leave. One last note, they used to serve awesome individual tres leches cake that I used to get a lot (but also contributed to my weight gain). However, they recently changed the milk used for the tres leches... its really thick and too sweet! I don't like it anymore. It's been 30 minutes and still no one is at the cashier station near the aguas frescas. so yeah everyone is just eating their food without paying for it. read more

I was blown away by this location. The organization and the layout are well thought out. The bakery, produce, butcher display, aisles, restaurant, and beverage departments look like well-oiled machines. Certain traditional Latin delicacies are easily accessible here at Northgate. I even found Guanabana's which I could not locate anywhere else. It's like $14.99 a pound but it's worth it. The freshness of the herbs like mint and basil was superb. Eat protein source was displayed in it's own case away from the rest. So seafood, poultry, meat, and pork had their own employee at their own display case. Each selection looked very tasty. Northgate SNAFU - Buyer Beware! I am so disappointed in my experience with Northgate Market on Cherry! I ordered and paid for 3 1/2 dozen tamales last week to be picked up 12/23 at 2:00 p.m. When I came to pick them up, they had not been packaged yet so the girl took my receipt and went back behind the counter to assemble my order. She returned with two sealed aluminum trays and, when I asked, told me that was my entire order. When I got home and started to repackage the tamales (I wanted to give some to neighbors as gifts), I found I was 1 1/2 dozen tamales short! I ordered 1 1/2 dozen beef tamales, 1 1/2 dozen chicken tamales and 1/2 dozen cheese. What I received was 1 dozen cheese, 1/2 dozen chicken and 1/2 dozen beef. Totally off on all counts. When I drove back to see if I could rectify the mistake there must have been over 100 people in line out side the store waiting to get in. I decided I'd be better off trying to reach Northgate via their "Contact Us" link. I'm too old to stand outside with that many strangers in the cold!! Almost 24 hours later, no one has reached out to me. Christmas Eve dinner for 3 households has now become Christmas breakfast for 1. Lesson learned.. read more

With the increase, it seems like masa was also increased and less filling inside tamales. I'd gladly spend the money if it were worth it; but not at this store. read more

My new favorite grocery store! I've only been here twice with my mom and this store has replaced our trips to Northgate on Pacific/ 21st even though that one is a lot closer to our house! This place is very spacious and the displays and lay out is very well designed. Selection is huge so if you're looking for something, you'll find a lot of options for the same thing! For example, I was looking for flax seeds and I found pre packaged flax seeds from 4 different brands as well as ground and whole flax seed sold by the pound in a total of 4 different places throughout the store. This is a huge difference from the other Northgate! Produce is fresh and usually reasonably priced. First time we shopped here we had a $10 off $50+ purchase coupon which was a pretty good deal! They also sell a lot of extra things which make it feel like more of a Mexican market. I'll upload pictures to show what I mean! read more

I usually have no complaints with this store but tonight one of the managers was REALLY rude. I went to cash out lotto scratchers and I got a sarcastic response and hella attitude for it. It's SO unprofessional. You're a manager, you should be treating your customers with respect. I believe her name was Ivon. I usually go here for the pound cake which is good and is on sale for $2 on Thursdays. There flame grilled chicken is $5 on wednesdays, which is pretty tasty. They also have pretty good sale prices and these white chocolate caramel cashew treats that are pretty good. 5 stars read more

As far as Northgate grocery stores go...this is the best one I've stepped into. Just moved to Bixby Knolls, and I can walk to this market. I went tonight on a hunt for guanabana juice (since a few reviews mentioned it), unfortunately they didn't have any :( I went with the spinach pineapple juice...delicious! BEST DEAL: 89 cent sweet young coconuts...LOVE!! Meats look good, Latino foods galore, and great prices! Place is clean and organized. The restaurant food inside looks tasty...will try soon. The only con is the parking is a bit limited and narrow. read more

Yes it was a bit hectic the first week of opening, because there were so many customers. They've worked out the issues, and all is well. I love this place. It is so badly needed in this hood. Good food, friendly staff, great prices. It may not be for everyone, especially if you're a mainstream Ralph's sort of person, which is fine. But for us people who like real food, this is the place. This Northgate Gonzalez Market on Cherry & Del Amo is the the best one out of all of them, the store is always clean, workers are always on their A Game. This Sunday Morning I arrived at 10:30am and the store was pretty busy I went to the meat department and asked if I could speak to the manager because I needed some Carne Asada cut super thin Serrato the meat manager smiled and said no problem it will be my pleasure he literally stopped what he was doing in the back started cutting my meat I was impressed because they had a full line of people and they had Carne Asada already cut he easily could of said no or stated that he needed ample notice but he didn't. Also there was a young gentleman Multi tasking like I've never seen before & the whole time he had the best attitude and professionalism I just loved his work ethic I was impressed and I just had to get his name it is Luis Sepulveda. I then spoke to the store manager Dante and gave him my positive feedback and he was very pleased that I had great service at his store he also offered his personal help if I needed anything else. This location is nice and new, well-organized and well-stocked so far. They have decent prices and produce seems quite fresh. What I have tried and LOVE is the ceviche. They have several types and I am slightly obsessed with the red spicy variety. Big fresh shrimp, with a perfect balance of lemon and chili, with chunks of cool cucumber...yum! Another good item...their fresh tortillas! One of these days I want to try the food items in the hot case, since it seems popular, and I want to get some of the conchas in the bakery section. I also noticed they seem to have a nice little floral area. I hope this market is maintained well...I'm liking it so far! read more
