Chicken Torta
Eric W.

Food Review: Northgate Market (Cherry Ave) What I Ordered: Chicken Torta (with everything) Food Quality: The torta was delicious and made to order right in front of me, which made a big difference. It was packed with flavor and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Portions were solid, and the price was very reasonable for the quality. Service: Customer service was good across the board. Employees were professional, helpful, and friendly throughout my visit. Atmosphere: The store was clean and well-kept, with nice Latin decor. It's a grocery store, but the cocina adds a great touch, serving a variety of freshly prepared foods. Overall Experience: A great experience from start to finish. Would I Return? Absolutely -- I will return.

Do not get custom cakes here. They messed up my three year-old daughter's cake they wrote. "Birthdav" instead of "birthday" and spelled, her name wrong when I spelled it out three times when placing the order. And the color was extremely off and they told me that the color depends on the size of the cake, WTF? And then, made it seem like it was my fault about the name, but I told them I said it three times to the employee and she wrote it down so that's not my fault. Also, when my husband went to go pick it up They told him it wasn't ready and did the entire cake in 30 minutes and rush the entire thing so it looks very sloppy. On top of that they didn't have the Ariel toy to go on top of the cake. Crappy customer service and customer recovery skills.

Chicken and pork tamale
Susan R.

I love going there for the Mexican products I can't get at Vons or Ralphs' stores. But, whoever is in charge of making the tamales doesn't know what they are doing. Ive bought tamales from there before and it hurt to have paid nearly $4 for a dry unsavory tamale. So I decided to give it try once again, months later, same results. The chicken tamales had no green sauce at all and the pork and beef tamales were so dry, I had to take a sip of water to swallow. Save your money or

They have a nice variety of Bauducco items. We all love these tasty treats. I recently tried the Chocolate Hazelnut Wafer Rolls and they are my favorite.

Delicious Tamales, Champurado and Mulitas! Went here early today an picked up some tamales. They have 4 kinds: Pork in red sauce, Chicken in green sauce, Jalapeno and Cheese, and Corn dough similar to corn bread. Also 1 dessert tamale flavor: Pineapple. Each tamal is a pretty good size and cost 2.29 each. By 10 am the champurado was almost gone. Very think and chocolatey but not overly sweet. The also had Atole de nuez and avena. These are 7.99 for a large 32oz or 3.00 for 16 oz... a bit pricey but worth it. The mulita was made if barbacoa and it was tasty. Self serve salsa bar available. Get here early fot the drinks and tamales. They also have Menudo. The entire store is very organized and clean. Great shopping and great food.

Spectacular Mexican food! I'm so glad TikTok recommended this place because I may have never…read morestumbled upon it otherwise! I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes for a table. The wait was well worth it because each dish offered an explosion of flavors. My favorite dish was the birria, with the salmon ceviche as a close second. The mole was great too, but I'd say the other two dishes were more memorable and something I'd return for. I can't recommend the birria enough, as the flavors were reminiscent of what I've had in Mexico, very authentic. The space is small and can feel a bit tight, but sometimes the best food comes from these types of "hole in the wall" places. Ultimately, I'd say give Lola's a try! You can't go wrong with Mexican food!

Not impressed by anything we ordered, given the competition locally…read more I will drive to Acton, CA (124 miles round trip) for their chicken tortilla soup ... bringing back 3 quarts of it after our meal is done. The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

I'm honestly shocked I haven't reviewed this place yet because I've basically eaten my way through…read morethe entire menu at Enrique's. If you want big portions, legit authentic food, and prices that won't personally offend you--this is your spot. The pork shank? Fall-off-the-bone, no-effort-required kind of delicious. The tacos are (I do wish they had à la carte instead of plates, but honestly their rice and refried beans slap so I'll allow it). The ceviche is basically an entrée disguised as an appetizer, and the chicken arroz soup hits every time. They bring out chips and salsa immediately (as they should), service is quick, and there's plenty of parking--which already puts them ahead of half the restaurants in SoCal.

I opted for the carne asada plate - simple and not spicy. Hubby ordered the Carne en su Jugo- very spicy with tomatillo broth and serranos, cilantro, bacon and onions. Both of our entrees came with bean soup and tortillas. The chips/ salsa starter was addictive. Huge basket of fresh warm chips, and a salsa like no other! Chunks of veggies and just the right spice. It was hard to get those chunks on the chips but it was delicious. My carne asada was tasty, a large portion with grilled scallion and rice. I wish some of the "bean soup" had been pureed to be a bit thicker but the broth was good, with a variety of beans. Hubby's dish had an interesting flavor, very spicy. He wished the broth had some rice, though, to accompany it. We could come back weekly to try many more entrees. Their salads sound tasty, too. Service was great.

It was open seating when we arrived which majority of the tables was taken where all the television were. The main dining area had a television set up but main bar area was where the action was taking place. We got lucky as there was a table available along the wall with perfect view of the game. Of course it was rain delayed so more time to enjoy food and drinks. Also it was happy hour and taco Tuesday all at the same time. As the game was happening, one of the tequila sponsors was there offering deals. Shot and a jersey. Tony took care of us that night and he was amazing. Made sure that we got everything we needed. Very sweet as well. Happy hour menu offered a good amount of items for a great deal. As well as draft beer and cocktails. Regular menu is great as well which we've had before. Food, an order of the tostada both with shrimp and aguachili. Served with two small tostada and handful of crevice on top. Both were quite tasty and very well flavored in the juice. Also two of the street tacos with birria. They were quite small but did have a major punch of flavor to it. And well priced at 2.50 a piece. Of course the crinkle cut loaded fries with added carne asada. Seemed like it was a popular item as every table had it. It was good but a little skimpy with the topping. Lastly the chicken wings, lemon pepper flavor. Six piece tossed in the sauce. It was good but way too salty for my liking. We still enjoyed everything we had. As we got the shot with the jersey earlier, the person who was affiliated with the sponsor brand was walking around with more shot. I must say, it does hit the spot big time...lol... The crowd was lively with everyone all there for the same reason. The game and good company. First time for happy hour and it was nice. We had a great time and everyone working was the sweetest. And Tony was amazing. Took very good care of us.

Palapa next door offers the same food menu but has more drink options. Many opted for outdoor seating on the terrace due to the gorgeous views, but not wanting to wait we agreed to indoor seating. The interior of the restaurant is also very beautiful. The bathrooms were too dark for my tastes though. Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH. Ola still exceeded expectations and provided a more than pleasant meal.
