Friends and family. Let me spread the good word. I have finally found a shawarma sandwich worth writing about in this city. I grew up eating mainly lebanese and syrian shawarma, so that's definitely influenced my preferences. The Syrian Shawarma here brings back a lot of great memories for me. The fries add a delicious texture that soaks up the juices, and pairs well with the pickles. The garlic sauce and hot sauce are both bomb (I wonder if I can get them directly added when made??). I was so happy, I ordered it twice in the same week for delivery. The order prep and delivery happened exceptionally quick, which is great because shawarma is best hot. The kibbi was real tasty too. This place is legit. I was craving kibbeh and fūl and they have it. Most importantly, their food transports me back to my moms kitchen. The kibbeh has a great crust that is fried to the right texture, with a succulent and rich filling. The kebabs and kofta were all cooked and seasoned perfectly without being greasy. It came with two small garlic sauces and two red sauces in addition to utensils. The beef kebob plate came with 4 pieces of beef, yellow rice, a small salad, & hummus. It also came with two pieces of bread to wrap the food in. The beef was so dry and not tender at all. It tasted like it was left over from the day before and it was SUPER dry. The wrap on the rotisserie chicken was quite bland and texture was not really that appetizing at all. On the beef kebab plate, the rice was really really hard, not appetizing neither. The meatballs were pretty good though I would have to say, it was the best part of the dish hands down. The beef plate also came with some kind of bread wrap thing, like a taco shell. The service was good and didn't take that long for the food to come out. There was also an HD TV playing Sunday Night Football so that was a plus. Maybe I caught these guys on a bad day? Walking in the place looks dusty, furniture seems worn out and tables were empty which we thought was not a good sign on a Saturday night. Was craving some Middle Eastern food and this place popped up on Yelp while I was in the area. Palmyra is a city in Northern Syria famous for its ancient ruins so I became intrigued. Went inside and asked if it was okay to eat in as I was getting tired of picking up food to go and eating in my vehicle. The woman working the register said of course I could eat in and was very welcoming. I ended up getting the roast chicken with a spinach pie on the side and a piece of the kanafeh for dessert. Chicken was excellent and the seasoning was very flavorful. Loved the spinach pie and the kanafeh (which I had never tasted before) was a most pleasnt suprise. I took what was left with me to finish at my hotel, but before I could leave the folks working made sure I hade more hummus and pita to take with me. This place, for it's location on Haight, is VERY reasonably priced and another one of those great SF food bargains that is getting harder to find. The people working were very pleasant and welcoming.
