Thanks to this crowd, the atmosphere was incredibly lively and welcoming. I feel like this space used to be an old-fashioned diner that just changed its servings. My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken and beef shawarma to try things out. Each order came with the meat, 2 pieces of pita bread, cucumber salad, hummus, hot sauce, and garlic sauce. Weirdly, the highlight of my meal was the garlic sauce and hummus. Both were evidently homemade, and tasted incredibly fresh. The garlic sauce especially was such a unique addition to the meal that was unparalled. The meats were both great, with the chicken winning out over the beef for both of us. Juicy and tender, the only weird thing was they were cut a little bit thicker than either of us were used to shawarma meat being served. Other than that they were incredibly delicious. The salad was also good, while the pita was a little thin. Overall this definitely satisfied my craving for this type of food, but wasn't the best thing ever. Not sure how that happens on a weekday, so we walked down the street to Palmyra for some shawarma instead. I went with their lamb shawarma wrap, which was impressively priced at only $4.95. It's been a while since I enjoyed such a satisfying meal for so little money, and quality can definitely be tasted. It wasn't a huge wrap, but exactly what I needed to power me through the day. I'd definitely return for another one. Service was super friendly and I was impressed by the quality and price of the menu items. It's a family shop and a community fixture, and a new favorite of mine as well. Love the staff here--they're always so sweet and kind... and fast! It's my go-to spot for when I want something quick, healthy, and tasty. It helps that I live right nearby, but even if not, it takes about 3-5 minutes to grab pickup so it's very convenient. The atmosphere inside is lowkey, but they have large tables if a group of you want to go in and hang. My top orders are the veggie mezze or the chicken schawarma mezze. I normally grab an extra cucumber salad, just because you get a ton of cucumber and tomato (yum) but honestly the mezzes themselves are loads of food. Lovely family-owned restaurant. I researched different places for my birthday dinner gathering of about 20 friends, including vegetarians, that would be budget-and family-friendly. As soon as I walked in, I liked the space. There were other places that were larger but the layout would have been weird for a larger party - super elongated and distant. Palmyra has an area towards the kitchen that is good for more of a huddled group, which I wanted. But really, I was won over by Mohommed (apologies if misspelled), the owner. He was very warm and gracious and made arrangements very easy. Everything was "no problem" - 20-ish guests? seating for a toddler? bringing my own cake? No problem. Move tables around, booster/toddler high chairs available, and no cake cutting fee. Mohammed gave me a very fair price per head, which included unlimited appetizers - falafel, hummus, tabbouleh, pita, dolmas, and babaganoush (sp?). He made it very hard for me to say no! And he offered me some fresh falafels and hummus to seal the deal, making sure I liked the food. His falafels are excellent. Super light and fluffy. He said he only uses chickpeas - no filler such as wheat flour, that others do to reduce costs and create more quantity but also make the falafels heavier and more dense. As I start off with my Lamb Schwarma platter, a concerning thought crosses my mind: Am I too white? I've had lots of Greek and Mediterranean food in my life, but never quite like this. These flavors...from the spiced lamb to the hummus to the little tiny bits of chopped lemon casually stirred in with the meat...they're intense. Maybe this is what authentic Mediterranean food should taste like...and I'm just not ready for it. But the wrap I got alongside it to save for later is delicious....hmm. And then the answer presents itself. I'd noticed on the menu that garlic sauce is an extra $3.50. That seemed pricey...but a lot of times that indicates that this is a popular add-on. Yeah; I know, the signature sauce shouldn't cost a bunch extra, and I agree. But it was a signal nontheless. So I tentatively sample some solo and...wow. It's super good...an explosion of garlic without burning. Then I turn to the next container...unlabeled red sauce. There's the burning...it is an intense sauce; it's not playing around. Yet again an unexpected attribute though - the heat doesn't stay around. Excited now, I slather my pita with both, and eagerly dig in. Yes...now this is good. In fact, so good I'd say it's the best Mediterranean I've ever had. Worries gone from my head, I focus on the amazing favors before me and enjoy. When I finally come up for air, it's time to try the Kanafeh. Recommended by someone else here, it's a really delightful dessert. It's not very sweet - usually a negative for someone with a big sweet tooth like mine - and the cream cheese filling is perfection. An excellent capstone to the meal. I love this place. We have been coming here for over 10 years, found this place when we used to live in the neighborhood, but moved south to a different neighborhood. Whenever we're nearby we try to come get some food from here. Our go to is the mesa veggie plate, and half a rotisserie chicken platter. The chicken is always tender, and the mesa platter is a healthy variety of different flavors and freshness. We love the garlicky white sauce that comes with the chicken. I like the circular banquettes they have in their spacious and casual restaurant. It appears that it's a family business and kind of on the old-school side, and we love that, and appreciate that it is not a new fast, casual chain, and yet it is relatively affordable and yummy! For just $10-12 bucks you can get a platter, or a half a chicken, with all the Mediterranean fixings to spice it up. I absolutely love their Kibbi platter so that's all I ever get. They are deep-fried (sounds super unhealthy but feels healthy actually) yumminess made with bulgur, onions, meat and warming spices (like cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice).
