The Detroit (Coney Dog) w/ Jalapeños

One of my favorite sandwich spots in Pasadena. I've had the chance to meet the owner twice, and both times he was incredibly kind and welcoming. You can tell he genuinely cares about his customers and the community. I also appreciate the variety on the menu. There's something for everyone. I've tried several of their drinks, including the milkshake, the green drink, the beet drink, and the Ginger Gobana. Every one of them was fresh and delicious. The Perry's Classic Detroit hot dog was bomb and I added jalapeños which was the cherry on top for me. The chili, the sausage, and the jalapeños all came together perfectly. It was messy in the best way and packed with flavor. The staff has always been friendly, the gentlemen with who is tall, long hair, (forgot his name) making our sandwiches was awesome. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. The Hey Joe is exactly my kind of sandwich. It's loaded with pastrami, roast beef, hot links, and more. Big, hearty, and absolutely delicious. The biggest surprise for me was the tuna sandwich. I honestly don't like tuna, but one guy making the sandwiches told me to trust him and give it a try. I'm so glad I did because it was hands down the best tuna sandwich I've ever had. It completely changed my expectations. We've also had the Hip Bird & Chicken Mingus our first time here which also really good. I forgot to take pictures of all the items I listed because It looked so good I dove right in!

2nd time coming here & sandwiches do not miss! Cute little sandwich joint in Sierra madre! I got the pastrami no chaser with sourdough added jalepenos & peppers to my sandwich & looooove it! The quality pastrami is so good & juicy! They are absolutely delicious! I need to come back on a Thursday - Sunday to try their tri tip sandwich! Always a pleasure, Got to meet Perry himself & what a joyous guy! Will be back soon (:

IT TOOK ONE HOUR JUST TO GET MY SANDWICH. Ten minutes wait just to place an order after the customer before me ordered and 50+ minutes just to get my food. I understand they were really busy but the irritating part was the lack of notice or heads up it would be a long wait. Had my coworkers and I known it would take this long we would have gone somewhere else. Even when placing an order, not even an acknowledgment of "hey, thanks for waiting, I'll be right with you," nothing. The best (worst) part is after all this, they gave me the WRONG FOOD. I ordered the hip bird and they gave me whatever this is. I love to support small businesses and I hate to be the one to leave a bad review but there were a lot of frustrated customers today, not just me. This is not it you guys, sorry (not sorry). It's not worth the long wait and bad service.

    Ooops....

Food was so good! We got a tri tip sandwich, the hip max and hot link American hot dog! The Tri tip and hot dog were our favorites! So much flavor but not over power! Service was great. Took a little long but overall nothing terrible. Plus I think them taking long definitely shows they put a lot of time and effort in their sandwiches! The place is fairly clean as well. Definitely would comeback!

WOW TALK ABOUT HIDDEN GEMS!!! This one is IT. Mind you we leave near by and have never visited this place up until recently. They have sandwiches, hot dogs, smoothies and ice cream. Also healthy green juices! We came in on a whim, I got the roast beef sandwhich, my husband got a turkey sandwich. Both were MEATY HEARTY and a mouth FULL. YUMMY FLAVOR and fresh ingredients! The ambiance is easy and welcoming, the people working have a smile on their face from the moment you open the door to upon completing your order. The jazz vibes are a super sweet touch. JOHN COLTRANE. Enough said. Pick up to go or come in and sit down to eat they have space. This place is a GEM. Upon reviewing I found they have other locations... we will definitely be visiting soon!

Cute little sandwich shop! Has so much soul with all the decor and music that sets the tone. Sandwiches are no joke! Big as my hand! Inside was nice and quiet Workers were chill and sandwich pros Definitely coming back! Big band is where it's at Big Joe looks good but feel like the hot link over takes the flavor!

Roast beef on squaw bread with avocado extra tomatoes onions lettuce and cucumbers. Yum!

Another stellar sandwich from Perry's. Roast beef on toasted Squaw bread, with lettuce avocado extra tomatoes and cucumber. All the veggies were crisp and delicious. I have a small complaint that it seemed salty so next time I'll make sure to ask that they don't salt anything. Nonetheless it was a delicious refreshing sandwich. Great service and it was lovely to sit in an air conditioned room while I waited, away from the heat

We were looking for a place to stop by along the way and wanted to try this out. We went ahead to order in advance by placing our order through the phone, which is pretty convenient tbh. When we got there, we found it's located in a medical plaza, so it's not at an obvious place to find! Street parking would be your best bet. The joint itself was very spacious, ample of tables, but also many others waiting for their order. We saw that even though we placed our phone order ahead, it seemed like the employees were working pretty slowly... which makes sense for the hold up of people waiting for their sandwiches. Getting our sandwiches, we got the Hip Bird and the Hey Joe sandwich. Honestly the Hip Bird is a very classic sandwich, although I wish there was more avocado on it. Everything tasted fresh but the more I ate, the more I thought about how I could've just made this sandwich at home lol. Nothing too impressive, but it's not really worth the price you're paying for it unless you're lazy. Also the mustard sauce in it didn't seem like it enhanced it that much. Wish there was something more special about it. As for the Hey Joe, it's definitely all the meats in one sandwich that my bf enjoys, but that destroyed him LOL it was so heavy, very greasy, just heart clogging. The sandwich is good, but makes you feel pretty terrible about yourself (unless you enjoy it all the way). Otherwise, service was mid, sandwiches are okay. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit here again.

My regular sandwich joint just gets it right. Friendly greetings and quick service. Place is clean as usual with regulars milling around. To know that it's popular, I noticed the maybe 30+ takeout boxes prepped for packing in the shop. My sandwich awesome. The hotdog was annihilated. Nice day to walk there and back home.

We came in for a sandwich after my husband found them on Yelp. We entered and were greeted as we browsed their menu posted above their counter. We ordered a Hey Joe sandwich to share and a cherry lemonade. I was reluctant to order that large of a sandwich but my husband wanted it so I went along with his choice. It took a while for our sandwich to be ready, but it was worth the wait. It was filled with pastrami, roast beef, melted cheese, and a hot link. I ate a quarter of it and my husband had no problem finishing the rest of it. The restaurant seemed to be popular with locals as we saw a number of take out orders, as well as diners inside and on their patio. If in the area, I'd stop in again. Street parking, but be careful of traffic if you need to cross the street.

Hour from ordering to getting a TO-GO order

I typically only write reviews when I'm happy. But, today I'm a Karen. We arrived at 1:00 on a Saturday- post lunch rush. There were 5 people in line. Not super busy. We ordered food at 1:16. TWO sandwiches - a turkey and a roast beef. Once the 5 customers ordered, hardly anyone came in to order - maybe 3-5 people. We got our food at 2:13 (see photo receipt). (Maybe wouldn't have been as irritated if they gave us a heads up when we ordered that they were backed up/behind) Sandwich was a large portion but for 30 bucks and an hour wait, not worth it. Turkey was thin and slimy. Roast beef came with onions - which wasn't listen on the menu, and totally soggy. We had an hour drive home and decided to stop here because the reviews were good and thought we would get a quick bite. Would have been better off driving all the way home and making our own sandwiches. It's not like they're baking the bread fresh and slaughtering the turkey in the back. We watched them make the sandwhiches on sliced bread out of a bag. If you have nothing to do all day - take a chance. If you've got places to be or haven't eaten in hours, maybe try somewhere else.

    The Guru Sandwich

There is street parking in front of the restaurant. They have both indoor and outdoor patio seating. I tried the guru sandwhich which is a hot sandwhich on wheat bread. It was so delicious. Lots of fillings. Juicy meat with crunch vegetables. I really liked the sandwhich. Staff is very nice there. It was a very hot day and he offered me a cup to get iced water. Very spacious inside.

Ask the Community - Perry's Joint

    Is there parking?

There's street parking in front and the side. Its very limited

    Has the indoor seating reopened?

If you are referring to the outdoor patio area, yes. Plenty. We sat int he courtyard outside of the place.

    Is there indoor seating?

There was outdoor seating available when I visited in February 2022. There was also really cool, classic jazz playing outside-- an added bonus.

What is on the "secret menu"?

There isn't really a large secret menu here- However, you can order a float with sodas and ice creams besides rootbeer and vanilla, and you can do the same for the ingredients in the sherbet freeze.

Do they have Gluten Free Bread?

Bread options: Wheat, rye, sourdough, squaw. Croissant 50¢ extra

Is Perry's closed for the holiday? I went yesterday and it was closed. No one is answering the telephone today, wondering if they are closed? No signs..

    They are open today 1/2/2018.

Has anybody made the suggestion that perhaps they could offer wine or beer?

It actually didn't take too long for our order to arrive, which we were surprised they are very quick and efficient with service! Although, the food was very underwhelming. California Benedict was pretty basic, or just the bare minimum actually. It was okay, ingredients don't really stand out. My bf's country fried steak, he was disappointed that the steak didn't even look fried. He wasn't really a fan of his order lol. I thought the potatoes were pretty decent, although I wish they were cut smaller into like breakfast potatoes. They were so chunky, but also wish they could be fried more. Overall, I feel like we chose the wrong items from this place lol, but these were the items highlighted on the Yelp page? I only wanted to spend around $5-$6, so I asked if I could get a small instead. I was surprised to see that the price was still the same. When I asked why, she then explained that oat milk was a $1 up charge and she didn't charge me on the large order for oatmilk. I don't mind paying the extra dollar, but I feel customers should be informed about an additional charge before being charged for it. Also, if getting a large was actually the better deal, I would have appreciated being told that. What made the interaction more frustrating was that the employee seemed distracted and dismissive while her coworker was talking to her. I ended up getting the small, even though I was confused about the pricing. The matcha itself was good, but unfortunately, because of the customer service experience, I don't think I'll be returning. I don't expect anything special--just clear communication about pricing and to be asked what size I'd like before being charged.

Despite its popularity, I find the food to be fairly average. Much of it tastes like it's made from standard commercial food-service ingredients rather than prepared fresh. On the positive side, the prices are reasonable, the dining room has a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is generally attentive. Overall, it's a decent neighborhood breakfast restaurant - nothing particularly memorable, but nothing especially disappointing either. The Reyn Special - 3/5. A classic breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and banana bread. The eggs and bacon are fairly average, although the bacon tends to be overcooked and dry. The standout is the hash browns. They're cooked with a nicely browned, crispy crust while still remaining fairly moist inside. The real highlight, however, is the banana bread. It tastes homemade and is easily the best item on the plate. Crepes - 1/5. This dish comes as two separate plates: one with the ricotta-filled crepes and another with eggs, sausage, bacon, and your choice of fries or tater tots. Unfortunately, the crepes are the weakest part of the meal. The ricotta-filled crepes don't taste freshly made and instead resemble a pre-made food-service product that's simply reheated before serving. Both the crepe and ricotta filling have a generic flavor with noticeable artificial notes. You can choose either banana or strawberry topping, but both sauces taste overly processed and artificial. The accompanying breakfast plate is noticeably better. I chose the tater tots, which were well prepared - crispy on the outside while remaining soft inside. The bacon, however, was again overcooked and dry, making it tough to chew. The sausage was acceptable but unremarkable. Scrambled Supreme - 2.5/5. Despite the name, this is essentially an omelet. The eggs have a mild, neutral flavor, and the fillings are okay but don't stand out. Coffee - 2/5. The coffee is classic diner coffee in every sense. It's somewhat watery, heavily roasted, and finishes with a flat, slightly bitter aftertaste. It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad - just standard coffee that does the job. Overall, The Reyn succeeds as a comfortable, affordable breakfast spot with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. While the food is average, and several dishes rely on ingredients that taste commercially prepared rather than freshly made.

Loved the variety and selection of flavors and spices for any palate. Had the Soto Betwai, it was delicious with steamed rice. Wings were crispy and well seasoned. Loved the fried rice, and the generous amount of wagyu steak was surprisingly tender and flavor for only $22. The service was top notch, attentive, and helpful. The dining area was dimly lit, classy, and had a romantic date-night atmosphere.

However, the last time i was here, my bread was cold and chewy... i was gnawing on the bread for a while and gave up eating it altogether. I also consistently ordered the steak tartare but something about it fell flat. It didnt taste fresh and lacked the umami that it had the prev times ive ordered. Service was fine. Nothing amazing but nothing bad. Id still come back. I want to try the dishes that theyre known for bc ive only ever ordered a bunch of small plates. Hopefully my experience next time will be better
