Why 5 stars? Because I can't help but continue raving about every Philz that I visit. --- --- --- Every time I visit a new Philz, I say to myself ahead of time, "there's no need to review this location, because I've already done so for many others." I make fun of people who review every Starbucks (see: Blue A) because Starbucks is Starbucks. Sure, one might have a drive-thru and another might have a bigger area to co-work in, but it's still a Starbucks that serves below-average, mass-produced coffee. So does the same thing apply to Philz? Probably. But I always love my experience so damn much, that I can't help but write about it. I'll never forget the first time I visited a Philz, I thought it was okay, but I really didn't love it. I have no idea what happened that day, because every time I've gone to Philz after that, it's been utterly amazing. 1) The coffee is possibly the best I've ever had. 2) The food menu is small but absolutely delicious. 3) The employees could not possibly be friendlier. Though we didn't have food here, #1 and #3 reigned true. I ordered the mint mojito sweet and creamy and it was insanely amazing. My wife is not a huge coffee drinker, so initially, she was not planning on ordering anything here, but the friendly barista walked her through some options and she went with a sweet Philtered Soul. I'm pretty sure she considered it the best coffee she's ever had in her life. Thank you Philz for existing. If you announce a Tampa Bay location, I will consider it the happiest day of my life. Fantastic service, yummy coffee!!! Went here on a warm afternoon (04/14) and was looking for a coffee table to do homework, I ended up this location. This Philz Coffee location is humbly quiet compared with the main busy Burlingame Ave. Surprise to surprise, the team of that included Christy and a girl (unfortunately I didnot know her name) did a fantastic job to generously guide and gave me some recommendations for my drink. As following their recommendation, I ordered a medium creamy cream Philtered Soul. Wowww, it's super gooood. It was way beyond than what I expected. Perfect creamy and aromatic! This used to be my favorite place to go but I went today after not being in in a long time and it was devoid of personality and charisma. The baristas were not engaging and generally looked miserable. My single coffee took 20 min instead of the usual 5-7. And I left wishing I'd gone somewhere else. Embarrassingly, before I discovered my love of Philtered Soul, I pegged this place as nothing special. After a workout class, my friend encouraged me to give Philz one last chance and recommended a cup of Philtered Soul. I ordered it iced, "straight up" (black), and immediately fell in love. Philtered Soul is incredibly smooth, with chocolatey/hazelnut undertones. If you hate overly acidic/sour coffee, this is the perfect brew for you! I loved the brew so much, that I ordered multiple bags of whole beans to brew at home on a daily basis. I go to sleep looking forward to my cup of coffee in the morning- that's how good it is! This place gets super crowded on weekend mornings, so be prepared to wait at peak morning times (at least before shelter in place started). If you're a Philz skeptic, I highly recommend giving Philtered Soul a chance! read more

Be aware: this place will make you sad. I ordered 2 coffees: the first came out in 30 minutes, the second in 38 minutes, after 2 others from the same barista. I'm used to Philz locations being filled with coffee lovers and energetic baristas. In this spot, no one wanted to be there - not the customers dealing with long waits, not the employees. The coffee is still tasty - hence 2 stars instead of one - but wow this left a bad taste in my mouth. No personality to be found, no visible driver of the long wait, no reason to return to this location. read more

Philz coffee never lets you down on the product. The coffee is always fresh and consistent. Service here is also always solid, knowledgeable friendly staff. This location in Burlingame is a little cozier(smaller) then some of their other locations but coffee is still the same delicious goodness. Regardless of all the Philz locations this is my favorite. Employees are full of energy ( too much coffee?, hmmmm) absolutely nice and just overall a good time. I've tried everything on the menu but I will say me ultimate favorite is a Large Iced Philtered Soul extra cream and extra sweet, it's full of Hazelnut Flavor and yummy Chocolate. It very good hot also on a cold morning. I will say I just had for the first time a Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese, it was the perfect combination with this delicious coffee. Things are very different since covid, including customer service at Philz, I used to come here several times a week pre-covid and used to tell my family to get me gift cards ($100- multiple times) but after going back I don't see that being a thing going forward. Of course things change but the new people aren't up to the task. I was berated by not one but two baristas because I said this isn't what I asked for and because of how they talked to me I was then spoken to rudely by a bystander as well because I was holding up their work because I said was not given what I requested and instead of being calm I got attitude. To the people working I may have seemed difficult because I said that isn't what I asked for and / or they don't understand. But I want what I requested. The 2nd barista said that he did what I asked and he would fix it but he said it in a loud, rude voice so of course I don't want anything if this is how I will be spoken to so I asked for a refund and left. read more

First time trying Philz! I've heard a lot about the good coffee here but I did not know anything else about this coffee chain. This place was still pretty busy for a Saturday morning, it took 20 min from walking in to leaving with my order. I walked in expecting to order a caramel macchiato but man, I was so lost when I skimmed through the menu across the wall. But, luckily the barista was super friendly and helpful to suggest similar drinks or adjusting sweetness and amount of cream. I decided on the Tesora (caramel, nut, butter), which the barista told me is a popular drink, with "sweet" (2 teaspoons of sugar) sweetness and medium cream. At Philz, they want you to stand in line to place an order with a barista first, then wait in another line to pay for your order and at that point, order food items as well. I am used to waiting at the end of the counter for my drink at coffee shops but at Philz, I guess you have to go back to your barista to pick up the order. Tesora was good! Strong coffee sweetened with sugar but tastes like caramel and topped with a foamy surface. Can't wait to try other drinks on their menu! read more

By the time I walked out of Philz today, this review was brewing, while my coffee was not. Due to a mass of online orders, I was informed that I would have to wait at least half an hour for a cup of coffee. I get that it's "one cup at a time," but Philz really needs to reprioritize whose cup is getting made when -- I question whether they even want in-store customers at this point. I absolutely hate writing negative reviews, but this one is warranted. I've been a Philz customer for a while, but only been to the Burlingame location one other time. After this last visit, never going back. Had over half an hour til work, so thought I'd get something and casually stroll to work. Gave a drink and food order, and they screwed up my drink. Not a big deal, they only missed adding creamer (maybe the person at the register didn't hear me). Ordered a plant based sandwich (because it was front and center on their menu & other options were harder to find). After I got my coffee without creamer, sat in a chair near the register because the place was crowded (it's a small space). Everytime they brought out hot items they would place it next to the register. Some people who ordered food after me started getting their orders, I had to get back in line because the person working in the front was also the person heating up the food. After another 10 minutes, they told me that they weren't sure if the sandwich I ordered was expired or not and had me pick another one. That's understandable, but shouldn't they have told me that sooner? I ended up waiting over 30 minutes, rushed and was still late for work, all for an breakfast sandwich that was just mid. I love the Iced Mint Mojito Coffee! You can't come to a Philz without trying one! Heck, you can't come to SF without trying Philz period! The Burlingame Philz is a little more cramped compared to other locations that I've visited but they make up for it in the seatings. Downtown Burlingame is a great location and perfect if you also want to get lunch or do shopping nearby. The only downside is parking and feeding the meter. I was only able to use quarters for my meter. Philz has their production system down; there's always a clearly-indicated line to order coffee! The service was friendly and quick as well! No wonder Philz hires baristas to match their culture. You place your order with the barista first. Pay at the cashier and then pick up your drinks from the same barista that you placed the order with. Like I said; I only get the Iced Mint Mojito Coffee. You can choose the dark, medium or light roast. I prefer it lightly sweetened and with cream. read more

Every Philz location never disappoints. The Burlingame store was pretty crowded for a Monday afternoon. It usually takes about 5-10 minutes to get your coffee but it's definitely worth the wait. I think the coffee is stronger than any franchise coffee shops. And who would've thought to put mint in coffee! I do that now when I drink coffee at home but it's never the same. I haven't explored other drinks at Philz because I rarely get to go and I would probably regret not getting the mint mojito anyway. It'll be amazing if they're more convenient (like not in the middle of downtown where finding a parking spot takes 15minutes to just grab coffee.) read more

Good amount of coffee places in DT Burlingame but this is my favorite spot! I work in the area so I'm here a good amount and they never disappoint. I get the same thing - iced philtered soul, sweet and creamy. The customer service is always super friendly, accommodating, and more than happy to adjust your drink, no matter how early it is. If you're a regular, they will likely remember your order (aka me). Really shows how awesome their staff is. Even with a long line the wait is never bad. WiFi is also fast and reliable! There's at least (4) baristas taking regular orders but only (1) barista for mobile orders. That means he will work up to 21 mobile orders per hour. I can finally experience PHILZ! The Burlingame Philz is the first one I've been to and I love it! The customer service here is above and beyond phenomenal!! The employees here are so friendly and chipper (must be all the coffee!) Today was my second time coming to Philz in Burlingame. I went on opening weekend and I wasn't impressed with the way my coffee tasted and a ton of other people and me didn't know where to pick up our drink after we ordered. It was really chaotic.. My husband said the coffee usually tastes different and to give philz another chance in couple weeks.. SO glad I decided to give it another chance. The coffee this morning was EXCELLENT! I just want to commend the staff at this Philz location for taking their and the publics health seriously during the current pandemic crisis. My order was also perfect and on time (as usual). This morning, I witnessed the team lead hand an unmasked patron her order and gently/kindly asked her to wear a mask next time as it is store policy and current state policy. I saw her kindly warned by a policeman nearby before she approached the coffee shop, to who she did not get so combative. Of course this uppity blonde woman decided to get confrontational. She's obviously been sitting and stewing (eating everything from the looks of it) over where to go to yell at non-authoritative figures over this obvious impingement on her fragile white privilege. So from one white privileged B to another...GTFO!!! I'm normally a stand on the sidelines type of bystander but you had me cursing at you in the first sentence. ARE YOU F#%&ING SERIOUS! Go home. You got 2 warnings for being in public without a mask. Read the mandate from Newsom. Call and complain to Newsom. I can understand your ignorance over the virus. I have to remind myself that not everyone has taken basic biology, let alone virology or immunology, nor believes in it necessarily. Today was my first time going to Philz and the staff was so friendly!! They really gave me really good recommendations since I had no idea what to expect. I ended up getting a large iced new manhattan and it was PHENOMENAL. And it wasn't bad for the price either. I must say that it was a little crowded and a little busy. This new branch of Philz is in the heart of downtown Burlingame. Both times that I have visited, the line wasn't too bad (maybe a 5-10 minute wait). Each cup is brewed upon ordering. I've tried the Philtered Soul and the Mocha Tesora; both being good choices. For non coffee enthusiast, the Mocha Tesora may be a better choice as it it is the less "coffee-y" of the two. Your brewer will ask you for customization options (sweetness, amount of cream added, etc...). After your order is placed, you get to stroll passed the baked goods section. Both times, the seasonal scone sang its sirens and I caved in and added it to my order. The scone (that is considered seasonal as of 5/30/16) is VERY good and complements both of the cups of coffee of my order. Pro tip...don't forget to stir! read more
